Man, Brian Wilson’s work is mind-blowing to this day, the way he could write, arrange, produce and SING. This was long before synthesizers and auto tune. Incredible.

It wasn't long before synthesizers. It was right around the beginning of them.
Contrary to popular myth, there is in fact no actual theremin on this track. It's an electrotheremin, which is an instrument that sounds like a theremin but is played differently.
The success of this song did however affect the sales of both synthesizers and theremins. Also, the Moog ribbon controller was developed by request specifically to replace the electrotheremin for live performances of this song.

@@Swenglish Thank you so much for sharing this information! I'm genuinely fascinated by unusual instruments, the effects they produce, popularity, etc. I always wanted to know what instrument was used to produce a certain sound in the theme to HBO's Deadwood. Now, I'm wondering if it was a theremin. I must look it up! Thank you again!

Ok, I'm just gonna say it. I knew the Beach Boys. Mike Love's dad lived a block over.. Of course this was in the 60's. I was only 12. But I grew up with them. Dennis is the only BB that actually surfed. I surfed as well.. We didn't have those big box radios yet. Just small transistor radio's and AM Radio.. KHJ, KRLA... My big sis boyfriend was an huge DJ in LA. This particular song (Good Vibrations) took beyond hours to create. Brian had a full orchestrated musical rhapsody of musicians participating to his creations on paper music. Forget about the perfect ability to sing, harmonize. The 3 brothers, Brian, Carl, Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, their best friend in high school Al Jardine...where the original members. Soon Bruce Johnston joined in. If interest watch the true Documentary on the making of Good Vibrations. It's on TH-cam. Also check out their own documentary. They were so admired. Huge groups like Queen, Beatles, looked up to Beach Boys calling them one of the best musical bands of all time. Their ability to harmonize is still to this day untouched. And Brian Wilson has been inducted into every Hall Of Fame that exsists. And yes, musical scholars all day say he is our generations Mozart, a pure prodigal genius in abilities to create sonets, raphsodies, any form of musical genre. To this day, he is revered. "Pet Sounds" Album is recognized as in the top 10 best album created of all time. Songs people today never heard, are amazing... "Snoop John B," "In My Room," "I Can Hear Music," (One of my favs, along with "God Only Knows") just to many to put down. I was blessed, fortunate enough to be given the rare limited released Golden 50 yr Catalog. Release, I believe in the 90's. This collection catalog has every piece they'd done, pieces never released (till then) and a beautiful picture album catalog included. I cherish it, and already has promised my child they'll inherit, but what's so shocking, but so cool, my grandson (18 yrs) is claiming it. He believes it's a treasure. He's right, it is.
It's sad the youth of today are really missing out on some of the most amazingly created music ever. Like I've mentioned. Queen, The Righteous Brother's, The Who, Deep Purple, The Stones, I could go on.
I was so blessed to be born in a time when computers didn't play in the mix for perfection. They weren't involved at all. Using their given gifts of perfection, a natural BORN gift!
I Love Twin decided to explore it. Height not of really "got it" at first. But I believe he's going to be coming around quick. Subscribe. Let's watch this young man's musical experience grow into something only a few these days will experience. I mean
..look at his reaction to Blake Sheltons "God's Country." I LOVED IT. The expressions on his face of surprise, and loving it. Priceless! Worth the time to stop and check his reaction out! Sorry for length. I just love seeing our youth bring back out times. And find surprisingly, us oldies truly did have it going. 🙏💞🏝️🏄🏾🌊🏍️🥰

So, she sells perfume and states it's necessary to wear that product or you are doomed? Lol... Just use soap and water and they are perfect as is. Maybe a little antiperspirant. As an asthmatic, I have very little I can tolerate and it's only worn on special occasions, I don't bathe in it or my eyes will burn and water, I will break out in hives if it has floral extracts, and makes my nose stuffed up. I usually prefer more clean scent or slightly (not sickly) sweet or resinous and I wear perfume maybe once a year and only if I'm not going to harm anyone else. But perfume like Coco's that have loads of floral derivatives and makes me have asthmatic and allergy reactions. And a side note just to anyone general that may apply, please, begging you, for the love of God, do not wear perfume if you expect to work with others in an enclosed area. Just a PBA, thanks 😂

I saw Brian Wilson perform this a few years ago. The beach boys are definitely NOT what they were marketed as. Great choice. Please do some more songs from Pet Sounds.

Beach Boys are fantastic! Brian Wilson is a musical genius. He suffered so much abuse from his father. He hit him with a 2x4 which caused hearing loss in that ear. But love them yessss

I got to see The Beach Boys in 1991 and 1992 in Wildwood NJ. It was an all day and half the night kinda concert. And what’s cool is I live 10 minutes away from Wildwood.

This was one of the first records I bought as a kid in the 60s. Still have that 45 - no way to play it though. Back then there was nothing I’d ever heard that sounded like this. When it came on the radio, it was like stop everything. I can’t remember if this came before Sgt Peppers or immediately after, but the Beatles and the Beach Boys played back and forth in the birth of a new sound with recording techniques that had never been tried before. So much came as a result of these guys genius.

The amazing bass line was composed by Brian Wilson and played by a session player, Carol Kaye.
She is an amazing musician, and often doesn't get the credit she deserves for her work in the 60s

I highly recommend you check out "Love and Mercy". It's a movie with John Cusack and Elizabeth Banks from a few years ago that tell the story of Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson as he records in the past and more recently while he's dealing with mental issues and such. Very powerful film!

I would *highly* recommend “Sloop John B” by the Beach Boys as well. Absolutely amazing song & Brian Wilson’s vocals and the harmonizing are on point. It might be their best song.

I think perfume started falling off with young people because they know the chemicals are not good for you. You can find safe ones but you have to look a little harder. My daughter filled me in on this 😊

This is a really musically complex song, even though it seems so simple. That is the beauty of it. This is a hard Beach Boy song to start with. Try I Get Around, Help Me Rhonda, Barbara Ann, their first numbers. Then get into some of the deeper numbers. Love that you are even listening to this. You are a nice young man. Cheers

As unbelievable white this will sound, the greatest concert I had the privilege to attend was a Beach Boys concert at "Summerfest" in Milwaukee. 40% of the crowd was black, and the jocularity and dancing was great! I taught a few brothers how to dance white!!!! JK.... (all in the thumbs)
