That musical instrument is called the "Theremin". It is one of the first electronic instruments, I believe (invented in the 1920s), and it used to be used to make eerie sounds for a lot of old science fiction movies.

That instrument is a Theremin. The song was first released in 1966

Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin used it sometimes as well. EDIT - I have always believed the sound was produced by a theremin but it does not look like one in the video: having looked it up, I discover it is a related instrument developed by Paul Tanner www.npr.org/sections/allsongs/2013/02/07/171385175/no-it-wasn-t-a-theremin-on-good-vibrations-remembering-paul-tanner

That is Paul Tanner playing his invention, the electrotheremin with The Beach Boys on "Good Vibrations." What a trip, eh?

Thanks for pointing that out. I was a little confused. I love the theremin and the way it's incorporated in GOOD VIBRATIONS.

Loveth, Beach Boys is a spiritual experience even for an atheist such as myself. I suggest you next listen to God Only Knows - possibly the most beautiful piece of music ever written.

Great reaction to this masterpiece, loveth! The Beach Boys made many great songs and were always known for beautiful harmonies! This is one of their very best, but they also did some amazing work on "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "God Only Knows", "Don't Worry Baby" and "Sloop John B." You could also add to your list "One Less Bell To Answer" from The Fifth Dimension and 'Lucretia MacEvil" by Blood Sweat and Tears as songs you would enjoy reacting to!! Keep up the great work on your fabulous channel!!

Thank you Loveth! Please react to their song "In My Room". One of their biggest hits with those 5 part harmonies.

The Beach Boys are probably the most appropriately named group ever. If you're ever feeling down, put on some Beach Boys for a good pick me up.

It is lovely to see how much you were immersed in this classic even on first hearing it. You are right, there is no description with enough gravity to justify how good it is. I heard you mention the 80’s but you would have subsequently found out we are talking 1966!

It is an imitation, portable theremin.

You need to talk less and get into the flow of the music. Let it speak to you.

Loved putting this on the jukebox at my lunch stop in the early 80s. My fun was seeing every other customer tap their toes! Try Mr Blue Sky by ELO if you haven’t for similar great vibe.
