Brian Wilson is right up there with history’s true musical geniuses. The Beach Boys and Beatles were friendly rivals and admirers - and we all benefited from it.

True. The Beach Boys PET SOUNDS led directly to SGT. PEPPER. The Beatles envied the tight harmonies, the Beach Boys envied the creativity of the Beatles. And this is a great one.

Bryan Wilson stated he suffered from auditory hallucinations for over 40 years.. He would hear these bouncing harmonies in his head, and would try and try to replicate these sounds he heard... He never could get it right.. It really almost broke up the band several times, as he was so demanding about it.. but his illness made the sound we hear... crazy... he was almost like a auditory rain man... Great reaction. Thank you. 😊

I think it was back in '64 when the 'English Invasion' we called it here, that the radio stations held competitions or contests between The Beatles and the The Beach Boys. It was pretty much a tie. The Beatles had that new sound going for them and without a doubt they too started a whole revolution. They both left their timeless legacies in a big way. Lets face it, it's been 60 years now and their sound still puts a smile on your face and you want to play that song again.

I first discovered The Beach Boys in 1962 while watching American Bandstand. I was 4 years old and would watch Bandstand everyday with my Mother, and then The Beach Boys are on and they’re singing Surfer Girl. I loved the harmonies, the melodies, etc., just the music, because I was only 4 at the time.

When I was in High School, I really identified with this one. I had an old 8 track in my car.
Life didn't turn out this way for me, but watching & listening to you brings back some old memory's/feelings.
Yes, I still think "it would be nice".
Yes, I played it over & over.

Yes the Mid-60s was a great time for Pop music Creativity - evolutionary & revolutionary. Lead most notably by The Beatles & The Beach Boys in an open and active (friendly) competition. Rubber Soul... Pet Sounds... and On and On and On...

You’re definitely right to say that Wouldn’t it Be Nice was released in the 60’s.
Wouldn’t it Be Nice was released in 1966 on the album Pet Sounds.
Lead vocals were done by Brian Wilson.
The instrumentations were done by a group of studio musicians called The Wrecking Crew.
The song hit #2 on the Australian charts, #4 on the Canadian Charts, #12 on the New Zealand charts and as high as #8 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

This song was on their seminal album “Pet Sounds” released in 1966. They and the Beatles had a “friendly” rivalry. The Beatles released Sgt. Pepper” soon after this.

i love the beach boys... when we were young boys always had to take a cassette to the lake in the summer. That was pure summer feeling for us and nobody can do that better than the Beach Boys. Listen to Kokomo ...

Parts of Pet Sounds were recorded in an empty swimming pool. This song is dream-like in vibe so they start out with ice cream truck sound. That's why I think.

The way I found the beach boys was completely coincidental.
My Grandparents did not know what to buy for my Birthday, I was a kid of lets say 12, I think, and it was on holiday in Austria. Cold winter outside, high snow, and I unpack gifts.
Among some sweaters and socks and the obligatory money gift, was a CD wrapped in gift paper. "The Beach Boys, Greatest Hits/Best of". I can barely remember the cover of the CD, it was brownish in color, and I haven't seen it anywhere since, none of the CD's on YT match the description of it. It had all of it on there, California Girls, Fun Fun Fun, Kokomo, Wouldn't it be nice, all the good songs.
Now, stuck with me was this Song, and the reason is the sudden swaps. It switches tempo multiple times, and the theme of the song thus changes too - and always returns to the base of it, which is why this song is so good. Combined with the message in the lyrics, a very good song.
That you reacted to the song and had the same reactions that I had, was bliss to see because it is so genuine. The song is kind of mind blowing, but first and foremost, it's both rock-and-roll like, has soft ballad elements, and tells a nice story.
