    you skipped right over the carb cleaning and rebuild which was the title of your video. I guess that part was just magic

      Absolutely Magic! 🤣 I apologize for not showing the steps to cleaning, and not sure why I didn't show what to replace on rebuilding! I do have other videos showing that, but not on this particular bike.

    Appreciate you more than you know. Went out to start the bike up and everything went off without a hitch. Till bubbly oil gas started pouring out below the breather box. Thanks for the heads up 👍

    Nice video, can you help me?
    I just got a 2006 VTX 1300R with 50k miles on it, vance and hines longshot pipes
    The owner had passed and his friend took it over for a short time, the manual has really good service notes that he did and it seems that he changed oil, filter and plugs every 4k miles for the bikes entire life
    The guy who had it said he cleaned the carb and changed the petcock to the tank and no issues with it
    I went to the house to see it, it fired up, I rode it around and bought it,,,,I have been riding the bike around town for 3 days, not much maybe 15mi a day
    The other day, I was close to home and it started sputtering and hesitating and stalled out, I chocked it, it came back on, then slowly died out again
    So heres what I have done so far,,,,,oil looked good, changed 1k mi ago,,,,coolant levels look good,,,,Took bottom float bowl off, there was some sediment in bowl, cleaned and inspected jets and passages, clean with carb cleaner,,,,,,,,removed and inspected fuel petcock, drained tank,,,,,Replaced all 4 plugs, one boot was "rusty" looking and the boots were dirty,,,,notes said valve adjustment was at 16k miles, it now has 50k
    Bike will start and idle, throttle rips loud, but sounds kind of lean with some tinny sounds and popping (just my guess)
    I let it idle but something sounds off with the idle, gallopy, lean, somthing just sounds off to me,,,,but throttle response rips, touchy and strong
    Pop in it gear, get about 500ft, it starts to sputter and hesitate then stalls out and wont start again till later
    It has the V&H Longshots,,,main jet is 185 and pilot is 55
    why would it ride fine for 3 days then just sputter and stall all of a sudden?
    My guess so far is that maybe its not tuned or jetted properly, maybe too small main jet? Maybe air fuel mix off?
    Any ideas you guys can give me or some direction as to what to do next would be great, Id love to get back on this thing!
    TY for any help!

      If it idles well, then we know the pilot jet/idle circuit that runs idle to 3,000 rpm is good. Seeing that it also takes throttle good, the main jet and emulsion tube are also most likely clean and clear.
      Before looking into anything else fuel related, I would check the battery and make sure it is healthy. Then I would check the charging system. Sounds to me like the stator may be going or the regulator/rectifier. Not much that can be tested on the regulator but process of elimination. You can check resistance of the stator wires as well as check for a short to ground on the stator harness pins.
      If that checks out good, then revisit fuel. Possible that the throttle need can be shimmed, double check the jets to be sure it is properly jetted.

    Very good job man
    Very good information in the video
    I have 06 vtx 1300R
    I install after market bullet air filter kit with the new jets
    But won respond in high rpm
    Only and idle
    What I need to do to make runs good
    Thank you

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Be sure the proper jet is in the main first. Then I would try to adjust the air/fuel mixture screw a 1/4 turn in or out at a time. I have seen instances where the big air filter sucks too much air and doesn't run good up high. I had 1 bike that wouldn't go over 60 and it had pod filters on and I took them off and went with stock filter and it went 115 after.

    Question for you sir. the Slow Jet and the Main Jet. Do they both have a hole all the way through the middle. I can not get a wire to go through my slow Jet and I can not get my bike to Ideal. Any idea what I need to address with Ideal Problems? Can you help me out? Thank you.

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they do both have holes through them. Depending on the size of wire, it may not push through the slow/pilot jet. I like to use a high E (the thinnest) guitar string. If you can get some at a local dealer, yamaha makes some incredible carburetor dip solution. It is pretty toxic but works great and supposed to be cut with water, in which I never do. A small piece of bristle brush wire works good also to poke through. If pus come to shove, you should be able to order a jet through your local dealer through tucker rocky or parts unlimited aftermarket. Or a jet kit that comes with new jets and a gasket, runs about 35 to 50 bucks. Good luck and let me know how you make out!

    Do you know the part numbers for the two hoses that connect to the airbox? I.e the Crank case breather tube and Pair valve hose?

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Should be 17552-MEA-670 and 17553-MEA-670 for the crankcase breather, it's 2 hoses that have a small water filter in line. The other one I'm not 100% sure. If you go to Hondapartshouse.com they have a factory microfiche to look up parts

    My 04 vtx 1300r is leaking oil and there fuel leaking from somewhere the carb. I put ot away in my garage and garage smells like fuel. I noticed oil spots on ground and fuel running down from carb.

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is from the needle valve getting stuck in the carburetor. More than likely, you will need to change your engine oil due to fuel that may have gone in the crankcase. As well as cleaning the carb and replacing the needle valve.

    • @intelin123
      @intelin123 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wickedrepairs8527 ok. Thanks.

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stephen Peluso the needle valve always goes in with the rubber tip end down into the seat. There is also a little tab on the top of the needle valve that should depress in and come back out. Also inspect the rubber tip be sure it's not torn.

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stephen Peluso it can stick due to stale fuel buildup or a particle in the fuel that gets in the seat not allowing the needle to be in the full closed position on the seat. Always a good idea to put your float in a cup of water and make sure it floats, sometimes a Crack can occur on a float and fill with water creating the same type of issue

    I see on this bike they have handle bar risers on it can you tell how high they are and did they need to change all the cable's

    • @wickedrepairs8527

    Chris..I've noticed when ordering parts for my 09 VTX 1300C a lot of the time they specify 03 to 07 ..is there a appreciable difference in the carbs on a 08 and 09 VTX 1300 ?

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the biggest difference, and it's minor, is the main jet size is 190 and 195 for 07 to 09. Idle/pilot jet is the same, 55.

      Definitely a good start. I wouldn't go any higher than 60 for pilot jet. The main and needle may be a little rich but a good start

    sir! thank you for this and i assumed I should rebuild mine while i was there since new owner, where did you buy all your parts, the diaphragm alone is 100 bucks! omg i cant afford that , any knock off versions for like 20 bucks that you trust? Thank you

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the diaphragms are always so pricey! As long as it's not torn, you can reuse that no problem. I got the rebuild kit through a local dealership. Was an aftermarket kit, around $70 for everything.
