Happy to hear all went well. These VTX 1300 are great motorcycles. Thank you for watching and all your support Jonny. Ride safe and have a great memorial day weekend.
Thank you!!! I am an auto mechanic and was hesitant to touch my bike until I watched this video. Very basic and simple! You saved me hundreds of dollars which I get to spend on the next set of tires that do not last long on this bike. I did find on my 05' that the vacuum lines were cracked so I was not getting fuel. Less than 10 dollars later all of those were replaced too! God Bless brother!!!
Happy to read all went well. Always glade to help.. Any questions just ask. Thank you for watching and your sub TheGreesmunke. . Ride safe and have a great day.
Thanks Rocco! Really helped me out! The bonus was you showing the accelerator pump. I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff but I'm really enjoying learning how to do things like this on YT. Anyway, because you talked about it and showed how that was supposed to work I realized that mine wasn't working at all like yours was. So I took it apart. I think it was either just stuck from non use or it has a vacuum lock on it. It was all clean and no tears in the diaphragm so I put it back together and it appears to be working now. So I'm gonna put it all back together and see if this did the trick or not. My guess is it did. Really appreciate you doing this to help others out!
Only do it if your bike is giving you problems idling or it won't idle, first always change plugs and air filter. If that don't do it. Then clean carburetor.. If you could thumbs up and subscribe, ride safe ,thank you
Two Wheel Rocco I have this bike soon nice 2 year I run with it 10,000 miles. I just change the oil & oil filter and spark plug. I’m driving in UAE it’s hot wither. When I drive at 120-130KM then I need to go more I don’t feel that the engine is in smooth. I
Great video, thank you for posting. I just did this to my 06 VTX yesterday and has it running like a new bike again. Saved me a bunch of money instead of taking it to the dealership for service.
Thanks for doing this video Rocco, best one on TH-cam. My 2007 C wouldn’t run over 40mph until I followed this video; jets were all clogged and corroded, cleaned up nice! This way is so much quicker than taking the carb off the bike. One extra thing I found was a little screen where the fuel line goes into the carb; it was also clogged so I just cleaned it out and reinstalled it. Now this bike runs like new. Pulls like a freight train! Thanks again for this video 👍🏻
keep this in mind if there is dirt in the screen by your carburetor chance you have a bad screen at your Petcock. check and clean or replace gas tank petcock screen.
Thank you! Just watched the video and nailed the job on my 2005 VTX! Really appreciate the instructions and leaving the carb mostly connected made it much less of a hassle.
Rocco you are the MAN! Can't thank you enough and I appreciate all your patience.. I know I could be a pain some times hahaha. You're legit a Wizard when it comes to these bikes.. ABC's never forget it!! HIGHLY recommend anyone that comes to this page with issues, take your time and trust that you'll get your bike back up and running (and in my case wayyyy better than it ever has) Thanks again for everything! I O U!
Oh wanted to thank you for this video, greatly simplified what seemed to be a formidable task. Really turned out pretty easy. I was forced to drill out the A/F screw, but I replaced it with a Glenns A/F extension knob and was able to tweak both idle and AF until it held idle.
Thanks Rocco, good detailed instruction. Just what I'm looking for. My 07 1300c was sitting for about 2 years with old gas. cleaned tank and bowl and got it to start, but won't idle. i've ordered an AF adjustment extention and as soon as that gets in, I'll do this clean.
My 06 Honda VTX1300R is blowing out gas from the carb into down my air filter and into my oil as well. I don't know what part is not working and needs to be replaced. Thanks for the great video. I feel more confident to take the carb apart I just don't know what I would be looking to replace in my situation

Its really important to note that just because you see fuel spitting out when you cycle the accelerator pump, that does NOT mean its OK. There are 4 extremely small passages around the brass plug in the bottom of the accelerator pump bowl that must ALL be clear for it to run like it should. Nothing short of a physical cleaning will get to this location. If your bike spits and chokes trying to get up to speed, but runs fine when it gets there, I suggest you look there first. A very thin sliver of a soda can may assist in cleaning that area out.
@@TwoWheelRocco I literally just did this over the weekend to a 2007 1300C model and all the gremlins went running for the hills. Those passages are easily overlooked. The 1300 runs like a scalded rabbit now. Thanks for the reply and you ride safe as well. "Painted side up" I like to say.
I agree this VTX1300C are excellent bikes. Honda did an outstanding job. value wise, probably one of the best rides out there. Ride safe and have a great day.
Great video. The airbox bolt at the bottom goes into a rubber grommit that gets stuck to the bolt and freely rotates with the bolt. It is a pain to pry the airbox out when this happens as the grommit will have to be pulled out with the bolt.
Awesome video, saved me a bunch of money. The only real problem I had was getting those damn hoses back on the back of the box. Broke down and went and bought that tool you use. Definitely helped but still had some trouble with the bigger one. I ended up going to the other side of the bike and finding where that hose was routed. In the middle of the engine it has a heat shield on it and I popped that part of the hose out and pushed it through just enough to make it easier. Once I had the box back on I just snapped the hose with the heat shield back into place and was good to go! Thanks again, she runs like a champ!! Of course I did this yesterday and today it's heavy downpours all day. Bummer!!
Great video. Very descriptive. Easy to follow with no questions. Clean jets and adjusted air screw as noted. Idles great. Wondering if you know why my bike sputters at half throttle?
Happy to help. That would be your slide needle jet that's what controls mid throttle. Thank you for watching and all your support. BB. Any questions just ask I would clean it and make sure that slide is moving very freely. Ride safe and have a great day. You can play some washers under the slide needle and that will change your fuel curve. I'll send a video but it's will be with a Harley Davison, Sportster, Same principal. Take a look. th-cam.com/video/G1XD0hHtwCw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lt--bCT2nVKc2JaW.
I will give that a try. After I turned the choke intake one and a half times, the bike would stall out when I put the choke fully in. Should I turn it a little bit more out or tighten it in a little bit more? Thanks for all your help.
If you need to choke to be engaged for your motorcycle to Idle, that's indicating you have a clogged idle jet and your choke is compensating for that and that's how it's idling off your choke. Your choke should be fully pushed in and the bike should Idle once she warms up. I would start by cleaning the Carburator idle jet and circuit. Very easy. And you will see the results. Let us know how it works out and what is this that you're working on turning the choke out or in I don't understand.
Great videos I want to fit Glens garage A/F adjusting kit which comes with the D shape tool to remove old A/F screw, will check and clean carb if needed but I am only able to this thanks to your videos.
Great video!! I will finally attempt it on my 05. Will let you know how it goes. At 4:09.. I am unable to follow what you do there. But overall, awesome video. Thanks for taking the time to help people like me do it at home.
HEY ROCCO ... YOUR AWESUM.... watched your carb cleaning video..... i saw you do the air screw adjustment.....but could see where ya stuck the screw driver...my bike still back fires during deceleration.....i know as you said....thats the problem....SO..... CAN I ADJUST AS YOU SAID ...THE 1 3/4 TURN .....WITHOUT TAKING IT APART AGAIN....Can I get at it without taking all apart again.... I got same bike.... 2006 VTX 1300C ...same colour..... it has the spike air filter.
Great video! Very helpful! I followed your step by step and cleaned the carb and my '06 Vtx 1300c runs much better thank you! However, it idles high and is slow to return to idle. What should I look for?
Start by lower idle knob, bottom of air box counter clockwise. Make sure there is no vacuum leaks. That would be the Vac. hose from the gas petcock to top of the carburetor take a look at that, that would make you idle slow to return.Let me know if that helped. Ride Safe.
Thanks for your video. The best one I've seen so far. Im about to dive into mine I think. Just replaced the plugs and air Filter, I changed the grips and something musta happened cause she runs like a crap salad sandwich now. lol
@@OldCityVlogs I would get the rebuild kit, I have had a lot of good experience with replacing diaphragm in petcocks on Honda's. Kawasaki should be the same. Let us know how this works out.
Great detailed video. Would you have any idea why my VTX has a slight studder in RPMs around 1800 - 2000 RPMs in 1st and 2nd gear? Like taking off from a stop or in low 2nd gear. It seems to go away after 10-15 minutes on the freeway. But if I start it and ride to the freeway it does it. Annoying and potentially dangerous... I almost hear a click or a pop when it recovers, which makes me think it may be an airflow issue. We just replaced the vacuum hose on the petcock. Thanks.
@@TwoWheelRocco stock pipes, stock intake, i believe KN filter maybe, I took it out a few days ago, it had a little blackness but wasn't ridiculously caked or anything. I just got it 2 weeks ago, upgraded from an 04 aero 750vtc to this 05 vtx1300R.

Hey, thank you for your previous help, i got my carb cleaned and it runs really good now after putting it back together and adjusting idle speed. Upon reassembling it started leaking from the petcock and i wanted to know if there was anything special i needed to have done while putting the petcock back on after draining the gas? Hello Rocco, I have been loking the video and I'll perfom claning to my carburator because I think is the same like my honda shadow VLX DELUXE 2001. Good video.
I’m buying a bike and got it narrowed down to a 2007 VTX 1300 or a 2007 Suzuki Boulevard C9, the latter being fuel injected. The Honda’s main takeaway I’s its carbureted, but that should be a silly point I’ve owned bikes all my life with carbs but nevertheless can’t make up my mind. The Honda is 1000 more buts fully dressed, the Suzuki is naked and that’s gonna cost me to add everything
If you would run some Seafoam thru your engine a couple times a year, you wouldn't need to clean your carburetor. I've used Seafoam on all my small engines for the past 15 years and I never had to take a carb off to clean them. I also use it for fuel stabilizer in the winter while it is being stored. My engines all start right up in the spring like they've just been running. It keeps those small ports clear of debris, which is mostly why carbs need to be cleaned.
I put a gas stabilizer in the tank before winter. Took the bike for a ride and the engine stopped (had 3/4 tank of gas). Put on reserve and it ran. ? Is it possible the stabilizer gunned the gas filter (not sure if it has a filter). I don’t like the idea of running my bike on reserve all the time
I would fill the tank up and see how it runs with the petcock on. If it will not run remove petcock and clean. Take a look at this video on petcock test.th-cam.com/video/7Fo9Q93OJXI/w-d-xo.html. Let us know how this works out.
Thanks Rocco for your wonderful videos. Easy to follow and in great detail. Now I plan to block the PAIR Valves of my 2003 Honda VTX 1300. The plates have been ordered. The question is does the vacuum tube from the air cut of valve end up in the manifold, as the petcock does not have a vacuum valve. Wish you had a video on the Pair valves.
Happy to help. Petcock. on VTX are vacuum operated. What is your VTX doing? And I will try to help. Thank you for watching and your sub David. It's for the pair system. You could've just blocked off the hoses. and been done. Ride safe and have a great day.
Thx for your reply. There is deceleration backfire and popping which I detest. Gives the impression of a poorly tuned motorbike and at age 72 it startles me. The 2003 VTX has a fuel pump and a filter and the fuel line just feeds in to it. The later models that is 2004 plus have vacuum operated petcocks. The blocking plates came in today so I'll install them. Once again thank you for your advise. Stay safe and all the best.
@@davidutarid712 yes you are right on the 2003 VTX 1300's. What pipe and air filter are you running? The poping is air from that pair system block it off and see if it makes a difference. Let us know how it works out but I agree that is a terrible sound that popping. Thank you for watching and your sub David. Ride safe and have a great day. But the problem definitely lies in that pair set up.
It has the original/stock pipes and air filter. I did plug the PAIR inlet in the air box and drove around for a week or so. It eliminated all backfiring and popping . Waiting for a rainy miserable day and the block off plates will go in. Going to run a vacuum tube from the air cut off valve to the manifold but instructions provided with the Barron block off plates suggests to cap the nozzle of the air cut off valve which was controlling the pair valve. Thanks for time.

The reaso i ask is because ...i believe your correct why my vtx 1300 backspits during deceleration...i feel its that air screw adjustment that i forgot to adjust during the carb cleaning because i ...so far...changed the wire & plugs too.....and changed the oil with 10/W30 .....hoping to know if i can get at that air screw without taking all apart again.
How many miles? What pipe, slip on or full pipe. You will need to pull tank and air filter box to get to that A/F screw. Any questions just ask. Thank you for your Sub Ron. Let us know how this works out. Ride Safe and have a great day.
Question for you sir. You did not have the Camera in focus when you where cleaning the Slow Jet and the Main Jet. Do they both have a whole all the way through the middle. I can not get a wire to go through my slow Jet and I can not get my bike to Ideal. Can you help me out? Thank you.
Sorry about that my friend. The slow jet hole must go all the way through. Pull a strand of wire from stand it wire brush. Take the wire and a your pliers and hold the wire where there's only like maybe a half inch showing take the jet and start working it into the wire that you're holding with the pliers and you have a shot. Hi Rocco, my float chamber is definitely getting gas, but when I turn the throttle I no longer get that little spurt of fuel into the carb from the accelerator pump. Would appreciate your thoughts when you have a moment.
It sounds like it worked prior your carb cleaning. Twist throttle a few time and see if it will prime. If not, remove float bowl and take apart and clean accelerator pump diaphragm and passages with compressed air and carb cleaner. Let us know how this works out.
@@TwoWheelRocco Thanks for such a fast reply Rocco! Yes, it was working fine (well, a little backfiring) and then one day.... no fuel. Hey Rocco - great video - I just picked up a 2009 VTX and I've had the issue where the bike starts, runs for about 60 seconds then stalls... after that it won't start for a bit - could this be a carb that needs cleaning?

Hey Rocco! I cleaned this carb a few months ago then my bike sat. I'm running it now every day and it idles very low and eventually will die if I dont give a little throttle. Also cant do a normal roll with just releasing the clutch. Is that a carb problem? Also replaced spark plugs around the same time I cleaned the carb. I've seen idle adjustments being brought up, but havent found a video on how to do that either? Any recommendations are VERY much appreciated!
Idle was a bit better. I found a video specific to the 1300 explaining the idle adjustment and the A/F adjustment as well. Going to give it shot when I get home tonight and I'll update shortly. Thanks!
Alrighty sir, so I'm attaching a link to the idle of my VTX. Raised the idle this morning since it went down since I did it yesterday. Is that supposed to change? Also, while its idling, its sputtering. Do I need to adjust the A/F in a different way? Messed with it about 20 minutes this morning trying to find different settings and still couldn't find the sweet spot. Also, the thing only starts well with choke on. Could this guy just need another Carb cleaning? I appreciate all your help! Heres my Idle video: th-cam.com/video/jvi-cq46NKw/w-d-xo.html

typo on my question...I COULD NOT see where you where sticking the green screw driver you marked to turn it the 1 3/4 turn..... can i get at it without taking everything apart again ?
hey their Boss ! in regards to the air screw.....you said 1 1/2 to 2 turns.....BUT I dont have a stock air filter,,,,i got the custom spike on it . HOW MANY TURNS YOU RECOMMEND in my case .....i turned it in a half turn with my D - bit driver....i got same bike as you .Still spits ,,,not as much.....also i noticed acceleration has a dead spot some times now .
Your idle jet dictates your air fuel screw mixture. That's why there's jets for certain applications, As pipe and intake. Sorry you're gonna have to fool around with that yourself. if you go 2 turns or more, you need a bigger idol jet. I would buy the jet kit for your set up. What jets are you running BOSS?
@@TwoWheelRocco I dont know what jets that the guy i bought the bike from did....ive been talking to him and he informs me as you said to put bigger jets because he put on the Spike air filter....he gave me some 2 spare jets 1 small and 1 big.....dont know why..... he thinks i should remove the baffles and clean with brake cleaner .....he thinks would help.....i think wrapping the baffles with fibreglass cloth would increase back pressure .... im waiting to get my rpm meter from amazon and start their.....also thinking of putting back on the stock filter and get rid of the spike filter ....asfor the baffles ...i dont know yet....im buying some fuel injection cleaner tomorrow and putting the highest grade fuel too....i ve been playing with the air screw but closing it a half turn since i have a spike filter giving more air..... I would put back the OEM stock air breather and see if that makes a difference. On my 2006 VTX the baffles could not be removed. Sound like they are not stock Honda slip ons. on your pipe. The custom spike are problematic if not matched with jet kit and pipe. Think about a Dyna jet kit for your bike. This will clear up your problems. First see if OEM air intake makes a noticeable difference. That will tell me you will need to move your slide needle up. This can be done by using carb washer under slide needle. This controls off idle response to mid range. Let us know how this works out.

Hi, sorry to bother you out of topic, I have Honda VTX 1300c and recently I started to experience issues with downshifting, when I am riding for a while, and need to stop= downshift from 5th to neutral, it only goes to 4th, sometimes 3rd but not down to 1st. Then suddenly after I trying to shift for many times, suddenly it is in neutral. Any thoughts?
Hello, I have this motorcycle 04 VTX1300S and had the carb rebuilt at the Honda dealer, I bought it not running well and it had sit for sometime, when I got it back it was running fine, then I took it back to have some pipes put on and they first put in the jets the manufacture of the pipes, I think their Cobra suggested, but they said it had a flat spot when you gave it the gas, so they changed the jets again now its so lean I cant ride it because when you let off the gas its bangs so loud it sounds like its going to blow the heads off. I have a feeling because because of the age of the mechanic at the dealer hes not worked on a lot of carburetors, he kept saying he was looking on TH-cam... so now I have a motorcycle I cant ride and I have had it over a year and half, Im in Kansas City MO. not sure where your at. any suggestions? Thanks Greg

Thank you for your tip and all your support Joe. Ride safe and have a great day.

Bummer!!

Hello Rocco, I have been loking the video and I'll perfom claning to my carburator because I think is the same like my honda shadow VLX DELUXE 2001. Good video.
Let us know how it works out. But you really should look at one as the same as your motorcycle.
I like the VTX 1300. Are you planning on long distance highway driving. Then I would go for the Suzuki C9 how many miles on each bike?
brilliant detailed how to guide ....great job....really fiddly tho u made it look easy man

I agree.. Thank you for your Sub.
Great video.. thanks for the help

What would you suggest.

Yes, it was working fine (well, a little backfiring) and then one day.... no fuel.
I FEEL LIKE IM GOING AROUND IN CIRCLES....What do you make of all this ?
What pipe are you using? Cleaning the baffle??? So I want to be clear you have a spike air intake? So it idles well but you have a flat spot coming off Idle?
@@TwoWheelRocco Yes..I got a spike filter chrome intake...the pipes have baffles in them.....idles great....starts right up.....when i drive a slow speed .....feels like it lost breath..when i accelrate....i have to give it full throttle to respond..... but the main problem is the backfiring......not as loud anymore since ive been playing with the air screw and rpm knob.....im thinkin of putting a big hole washer in the back pipes to create more back pressure...... ive done everything to this bike so far....cleaned and changed everything....almost runs perfect.....but im starting to think buying cool stuff for a bike like fancy pipes with baffles and spike intakes....makes me think its impossible to make it run normal....even with new jet kit....how do you know what jet kit to put ....larger or smaller......i dont know anymore......gonna go put some fuel injection cleaner in it today....just for fun....
Let us know how this works out.
question any one know why that hose that hangs in front there the whole vid why it would be spitting tons of fuel but bike still runs well
Gas can only come from two places a bad petcock or a bad float needle jet. Test for petcock th-cam.com/video/7Fo9Q93OJXI/w-d-xo.html. This is a video on a Harley float needle seat. This is the same principal as a Honda carburetor. th-cam.com/video/tS_-M4RuWc4/w-d-xo.html. Any questions just ask. Thank you for your Sub Mario. Let us know how this works out. @@TwoWheelRocco been there done .that. I'm actually an ace with carbs but this I've never seen .is dumping fuel faster than it seems like the fuel pump.would even pump yet bike still runs great needle and seats are replaced . I'm about to machine the pieces myself
@@mariogarcia1803 petcock bad Diaphragm free-flowing Fuel. I hope that helps have a great day let us know how it works out. Thank you for watching have a great day. And let us know how it works out.
@@TwoWheelRocco ya I have him.ordering a daphram now cause it's slightly warped .I've just never seen this much fuel come from it and the bike still seems to run perfect seems .odd but gonna do.his daphram . I'm questioning that the seat is not letting the needle set right so.im gonna tear it down this weekend when I get to actually go to the bike . Im.trying to see if any unusual. Um .typical issues I guess.because they say 8 techs have rebuilt the carbs and Noone has solved it .
@@mariogarcia1803 Let us know how this turns out. How to test petcock. th-cam.com/video/7Fo9Q93OJXI/w-d-xo.html. Your bike runs good so I would think the needle is working fine. your bike would run real rich if needle was your problem.
I'm in South Florida. Just bought this bike, used, 10,000 miles. would like to change oil, transmission, get carb cleaned, and tune up. How much should I spend on this?
Hello Ryan, Where in South Florida?
do i have to remove the gas from my tank before removing? or is there a way in which to keep it in there
Happy to help. Turn the gas off. if it's a OEM Petcock. it's vacuum operated. So it automatically is shut off, So you do not have to remove the gas from the tank. Thank you for watching and your sub Manuel.. Ride safe and have a great day. Let us know how it works out any questions just
I emailed you.
Happy to help. Thank you for watching all your support. I'll talk to you tomorrow at four.
Any thoughts?
what year an miles..
That sounds like a bad pin in the shifter linkage joint. Pardon my verbiage not sure if those are the names
Could you let us know where the vacuum line in back of the gas tank where does that vacuum line go to from the gas tank to where?
Happy to help, That is a vent line on the back right side of tank. Thank you for watching and your sub.Neal. Ride Safe and have a great day.
Thanks Greg
Happy to Help. What pipe, Main jet and Idle jet? Thank You for watching and your sub Greg.. Ride Safe and have a great day.
My 06 VTX 1300 is not squirting anything from the accelerator pump. What should I do?
Happy to help. You will need to rebuild the accelerator pump clean the carburetor. I will send you a video but it's from a Sportster Carburator the same principles on how your accelerator pump works. Any questions just ask. That's where I would start. Thank you for all your support. Drive safe and have a great day. Take a look at this video. I realize this is a Sportster, but I'll give you an idea how to rebuild your accelerator pump.
