This video is 5+ years old as I write this and it's still just as good today as the day Steve made it. Steve, if you're still watching getting these replies... YOU ROCK!
Steve, the washing machine stopped draining. My roommate and I watched your video and were able quickly and easily follow along. Instead of paying someone else to do it, we did it and saved lots of money!! It's now working and running like new. Thank you!!
Thank you for the easy to follow video. I replaced mine with your video and an overnight ship from Amazon for $30. Saved several $$$. Thank you. One other note, this is the 2nd one I've replaced in about 7 years on my LG. So it may not be the last. 2nd time went better than the first. This time I wrote down my instructions ... for next time. 1) Disconnect washer - power and water 2) Remove Top - Top screws in back, slide back 3) Remove Control Panel - 1 screw in corner then 3 tabs and it pops off. Set it on top of washer but can leave it connected. 4) Remove drain clearance and plate (2 screws) 5) Remove gasket from front of washer - spring removal tool 6) Remove front of washer - 5 or 6 screws on top and 1 elec connection. Lift and remove 7) For ease of access, get a 4 x 4 to put under washer and raise it to 30 deg angle or so 8) Remove drain pump hoses by releasing clamps 9) Disconnect wires (note position - Brown Top Black bottom / take pic) 10) Remove pump assembly a. 2 screws from bottom hold it to bracket b. 3 bolts hold assembly to washer 11) Remove drain pump from assembly a. 3 screws - note orientation / Take pic 12) Remove white plastic pump cover 13) Replace pump
14) Reassemble pump assembly 15) Slide assembly in place 16) Be sure elec connections are good before securing pump assembly 17) …remaining assembly steps. 18) Test run before pushing it back in place
You, sir, are a life saver! The night before we left on a 2 week holiday, our pump gave up the ghost. Knew when we came back that we would have a ton of laundry and a broken machine. Uggh! Picked up a new pump on the way home. Had a repairman lined up but he was backlogged at least a week. Not to mention we live in the country and there would be an additional service call charge. Found your video, (after looking at some not so helpful ones!) and figured I had nothing to lose after previewing it. Followed it step by step and before you know it, I have the machine working again like new! Not only did it save me a ton of money, my wife figures I am her hero. Thanks for this!
I am an old lady, 71 years old and on a fixed income. I was getting the EO code. I watched your video and decided that I was going to fix it myself. I ordered the pump and a spring stretcher and a wrench that helps take the clamps off the hose. It took me about an hour an a half, from start to finish. I did the job by myself. Well, I did my first load of laundry, and to my delight, no leaks. I am jumping for joy. Thank you for your video. It was very much appreciated.
I guess I can now call myself a washing machine technician. Thank you for the awesome instructions. A $20 part to repair an $800 washer was well worth the time spent watching and learning. One helpful hint for other novices like me...take lots of pictures and videos as you dismantle the washer. They'll come in handy when you need to put things back together.
My LG washer is 14 years old. It stopped draining about a month or so ago. I watched your video and ordered a drain pump from LG. It came today and I put it in while watching your video. Just washed my first load with no problem!! If a 58 year old woman who has never tried anything like this in her life can do it with your instructions anyone can!! Thanks for the step by step instructions! I couldn’t have done it without your video!!
WHAT a life, time, and money saver This guy is! After getting quotes from several people, I could almost buy a new washer! Fond the part for about $50, set aside a saturday and took my sweet time saving all that money! Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!!!
I fixed my washer, LG WD-14376FD with this tutorial, pump is on the other side but 90% of the guide is pretty much the same! The only difficult part was the spring clamps, make sure you have some wide pliers to catch 2 out of 3 or you'll struggle a lot. I wouldn't have guessed about the plastic lock under the pump, you're a life saver! Thank you for saving me at least 100 euros. Replacement kit in Greece costed me 44euros including shipping and vat.
If they ever start awarding them, I think you should get the Nobel prize for TH-cam. Very good video. Easy to follow and lots of great explanations. No filler at all, just straight to the work. When my part arrived I was able to complete this repair without any trouble at all. Thank you, Steve.
Lol what? He skipped 90% of the close up shots and left everyone guessing about which screws, tabs or harnesses he was talking about. Who wants to guess when taking unfamiliar machinery apart? I appreciate the video of course, but the Nobel prize??? If you really want to help people, don't half-ass it.
Very good tutorial. Having seen several of these, yours is way on top of the best. Thank you for your time doing this. I also bought a spring removal tool. I knew I would most likely have to do this again. However I know I'll have to do this again. I attempt to repair all of my appliances and cars that I can. The only problem I have had is finding a an original OEM replacement part that is of good quality. As for my model of LG front loading washer, everyone lists OEM, the part may fit, the quality of the replacement item is most likely not reliable. Also price is not a sign of quality of what I have found out.
Thanks a lot for this great video.. Excellent teacher.. Yup I did the repair on May 19,2020. I also let my son of 17 yrs... Watch this video and do the repair... He did a great repair using your video... Thanks. Lot!! Save $800.00 the plan was to buy a new one... This washing machine is 12 yrs old..
Wow thank you for doing such a thorough and detailed video for this repair! We just had our drain pump fail but we were able to buy the OEM replacement pump for $50, and replaced it in ~2 hours using this tutorial. Thank you! Saved us a lot of money from having to call a repair man.
Another satisfied viewer. Watched this when I saw the dreaded "OE", cancelled the the service appointment and got the pump from Amazon, IN 12 HOURS, for $35. Installed in a little less than 2 hours and we are back in action. The spring thing was the hardest part...just have to be patient, methodical and gentle. It will work eventually. Thanks, Sir!
Great video. I fedexed a drain pump overnight from Amazon and fixed my washer for a total cost of $43. It was actually much easier than I expected even after watching this video.
Hello Steve, I am a woman and this is the second time I have to disassemble my 17 year old machine. The first time it was the spider that broke and damaged the front tub. I had to disassemble from A to Z. Now it's for the drain pump. Always easy to follow step by step with your video. But this time I ordered the tool for the spring. Thank you a thousand times.
Thank you for this video! You walked me through fixing this problem on my washer step by step and didn’t make it seem like a daunting task. I am not a repair person by far. I am proud of myself for fixing my washer completely on my own, with no help except by watching this video! Back to doing my laundry now. 😃
The pump went out on Christmas night with guests when I went to wash sheets! Watched your video, which is the clearest and best-presented appliance repair video on TH-cam. I have the pump out, and my local appliance parts store has 9 LG pumps in stock! Thank you for preventing me from having a nervous breakdown. Your reassuring and calm manner is appreciated, as well as the step-by-step down to each little screw's location makes the repair a delight instead of a nightmare!!!
I’m a single mom and was able to follow this step by step with a $26 part. You made this so easy! Thank you! I’ve also replaced the motor using one of your videos. Saved me so much money!
ATTENTION: You don't have to remove the face! If possible, just tip the washer on its side and expose the bottom. Literally all you have to do is pull wiring, pull hoses, remove three screws at front, then pull out pump assembly. I had the whole thing replace in less than 30 minutes that way. Im pretty sure itd take at least 30 minutes to even get through half of the faceplate removal. 😅
I’m not sure why dangerously tipping a machine is preferable to doing a proper job. Why is everyone in such a hurry to accomplish what they are supposed to do in order to get back to staring at their phones as fast as possible? *ATTENTION* As someone who actually fixes things for a living, I suggest NOT taking shortcuts when repairing household items. Especially ones that have the potential to flood or start fires. Thanks.
Thank you so much for posting this video. Our Kenmore washer was not draining or spinning. Ordered a new drain pump from PartSelect and followed this video to install. Success!! Washer is working again and for a part that cost less than $50. Only thing was that it took me an hour and 45 minutes to do the repair, not the 15 minutes of the video. Very happy and so is my wife.
6+ years later and here I am, performing the same part replacement and relying on your video to walk me through it again! I dreaded it a little bit, but your video again showed me that its not that difficult a process and that its just a little time consuming. Thank you!
Steve, that was awesome. Thank you so much $42 for a pump and two hours later I’m back in business and save $2000 for a new washer and dryer. Great video.😊
My eleven-year-old LG stopped pumping. Your video gave clear and systematic instructions on how to get to the pump and replace it. Otherwise, it would have been a drawn out, frustrating, and perhaps futile attempt. I don't have exactly your model, but it was close enough. Given the video, the process was straightforward. For all of you other do-it-yourselfers, pay careful attention (as you remove it) to how the rubber gasket around the door seats. Also, for me, it took development of some technique to replace the spring-loaded retaining wire around the gasket. I'm pretty sure that Steve, the gentleman in the video, had done it a few times before. :-) Thank you PartSelect.
Thanks, Steve! I followed your directions and was able to replace the failed drain pump. Saved hundreds of dollars on the repair! I did need some more tools that you didn't mention like a stubby Phillips screwdriver, right angle screwdriver, and I even used my socket wrench set to remove the front panel. This project is really for two people and took us several hours, but we got it done. One thing that I wanted to mention was that our ten year old washer has a rusted spring on the band clamp. Replacing this turned out to be the most difficult (and most frightening) step. I recommend those who attempt this repair examine their door boot and band clamp before beginning this project to determine whether it's time to replace those as well. Great video!!!
This is one of the best do it yourself videos I have watched. Made the job easy and took just about an hour. $58 part.... saved $100's on service call. Thanks.
Thank you Steve. This was an excellent video which I followed step by step to replace my drain pump motor. My machine is 8 years old (model WM2801HWA) and this is the first issue we have had with it. We kept getting an "OE" error code and had to drain the tub out a few times. I did some research on the internet and found that the drain pump motor is typically the culprit. Once I figured that out I was fortunate to find your video. The entire process took about 75 minutes. Key was to have a second set of hands around putting the band clamp back on. Also, tried accessing the pump through the bottom of the unit, but given that the motor assembly was bolted down to the base, it made more sense to follow your instructions and go from the top down. Seems like LG could have engineered a removable door on the bottom of the unit to make everything far easier to access and save a bit of time.Lastly, when buying a replacement pump, I saw many folks had issues with non-OEM replacements, which lasted only a short while before needing to be replaced again. The majority of feedback on OEM replacements was positive, so that is what I went with.Thank you once again Steve. Keep these great videos coming!
You just saved me $300! That's what I paid last time to get my washer / dryer combo fixed. I was able to order the part for next day delivery, and in less than an hour, I had my machine repaired, tested and washing a new load of laundry. Bless you!
My pump fails once a year. I do a LOT of gritty, dirty laundry. I used this video last year and am getting ready to use it again. It's the best of all of them.
My washer was 7 years old when i had to replace this drain pump for the first time. Now 2 years later, I need to replace it again. The first pump I bought on Amazon and was some aftermarket brand. This time I am going with an LG pump from Amazon. I suppose it can be a fake since the price is $28 compared to the LG website where the pump is listed for $52 i believe. We'll see if it makes any difference.
Thank you for the video. We have been without a washing machine for weeks. Ordered our drain pump part through Amazon, received within a few days. I followed your directions step by step. Wow, machine now works perfectly. No more washing clothes in the tub. Thank you
This video was amazingly helpful. My LG washer was not draining and I had booked a repairman to come fix it. Thankfully, I decided to look on the web first for possible solutions and found this video. It was indeed my drain pump which had failed. I would have had no idea how to repair it myself but following this step by step video was easy. Thanks Steve for saving me a couple hundred bucks at least.
You did it again! Because of you I have replaced the circulation pump, the drain pump, the bellows, the hot water switch and some other kind of hose. My machine is 11 years old and I've had to call a tech out twice before I figured out this is something I could do on my own. The tech visits were $700. One replaced the gasket seal on the door and another was something else. And parts I've spent $150 to $200 on those four or five different fixes. I am grateful and monetarily indebted to you. Thanks
I have to say, his instructions were spot on! I bought the part, watched the video twice, and then followed the video the third time, stopping it when I needed to. I was able to fix my washer. It's in there right now washing a load! Thank you so much for this video. It saved me a lot of money.
I have now done this process 3 times within a 10 year period. Thanks for the detailed explanation and the patience shown throughout the process. I saved hundreds with your tutorial. Thank You 🙏
Big Thank you to the efforts of this video, this should be a wake up call to the manufactures to start engineering their products for end user replaceable parts. With the help of this video (during Covid) I changed this myself for $40CAD. A front door access panel would be a simple design to avoid the 30 min. it takes to get to this common replaceable part.
I agree. And it would be good to make this pump (and especially the spinning part interfacing with water) higher quality so that this wouldn't be always the first part to fail.
@@indiscretion3877 Yeah, I just replaced the pump on our LG washing machine yesterday and it would have been nice if replacing the pump at the *bottom* of the machine wouldn't have started by removing the *top* and *front control panel* of the whole machine. Replacing the pump itself was fast and easy (except for those spring clamps always slipping away from my cheap pliers) but the extra work to access the pump was not fun - not hard but just time consuming. The machine has direct drive motor and all the parts and bearings still seemed to be in very good condition. So obviously the water pump is the worst part of the whole machine.
@@MikkoRantalainen: That spinning part is called an "impeller." Oddly enough, the way I figured that out was by searching "What is the name of the part that breaks on a washing machine pump motor?" I have a sneaking suspicion that the manufacturers purposely make it hard to get to, in order to sell more machines.
Using a drill and a hacksaw, I cut an access hole at the bottom front of my washer, right in front of the coin trap filter and the pump. I covered the bare metal edges of the opening with some duct tape and I always place a thick towel over the bottom of the opening before I stick my hands through the hole. I've used it a couple of times to clean the coin trap and once to replace the pump. When I'm not using it I keep it covered with a piece of magnetic vinyl. It's especially convenient for me because I have the dryer stacked on top of the washer, so before I could remove the top of the washer so I can take off the back, I would first have to remove the dryer from on top of the washer. Ridiculous that the manufacturer didn't include an access panel on the front to be able to clean out the coin trap filter.
Thanks Steve! We downsized from a 2600+ sq ft house to an 1100 sq. ft mobile home, that I gutted and rebuilt. I designed the cubby around my washer and dryer, without a ton of free space. My wife walked in this morning and told me the washer was broken. Uh oh! I was relieved to see that I can disassemble this thing without moving it. I was dreading having to move it out. I'm in the middle of putting in a new heat pump, so this didn't happen at the most opportune time. My pump motor still seems to be running, but sounds like the impeller has come loose. I scrapped another older LG washer, and may actually have a spare pump. Now, if I can get my Bobcat Skidsteer running, life will be good!
This video walked me through step by step. I was able to switch out the part in less than 2 hours. Saved me 100's of dollars in repair costs and or getting a new washer that wasn't needed!
This video is stupid beyond belief! Just pull the washer out a few feet and tilt it back towards the wall. You can access the pump through the bottom of the machine without taking the whole dang thing apart! This video is like changing a light bulb by accessing the fixture through the room of your house! LOL!
Steve is awesome. You explained everything so clearly. I replaced the drain pump for about $50.00. I was quoted minimum of $300.00 from appliance repair companies. Thanks again Steve.
Thank you for producing this video! It was super helpful. Very concise and easy to follow. There is no way I could have replaced the washer drain pump without this step-by-step advice. Very much appreciated.
By far one of the most useful tutorials in my household. I've had to replace the pump in my unit three times during its lifetime. For any of the comment readers I don't have the push tab pump release but have the bolt on unit. Looks like my bolts were 10mm if that's useful to anyone else. Also recommend buying the washer spring clamp removing tool for about $12 just to have it. It's janky trying to do this with pliers and a flathead.
This is one of the best videos I've seen on TH-cam. A perfect how to video. Thank you so much. I wish everyone was so precious with their instructions. A $36 pump and a half hour of my time. This saved me about $250 to call a technician in. Thank you so much.
I've done this 9 months ago and my pump is bad again (loose impleller- sound of impeller banging on the pump housing). When the pump was working, loud motor and water movement sound is evident but now the sound is just a motor rotating along with tapping sound like plastic to plastic caused by the impeller banging on the interior of the pump housing. Great to revisit youtube and found again how simple it can be. TH-cam presentations can always be easy. Usually what delays any job in real life/time is the preparation or availability of proper tools, worksite organization, lighting, some muscle power and grip/pinching power with the spring and electrical connectors and first and foremost the access to the machine. In my case, I do this onsite on the laundry room without moving the machine as it is fronting a narrow hallway. Moving it out then in after the repair is the hardest part and most time consuming. The access issue in removing the screws in the back of which you can loose and drop if not careful is resolved by a magnet, proper lighting, catch pan, mirror, stubby magnetic screwdriver, and patience. Before all this though ,the knowledge presented here makes this repair 90 % flawless. Thanks for posting!
thanks a lot for the video Steve; you've saved the machine from getting scrapped; the service guy recommended to scrap the m/c and get a new one; your video was great inspiration; I gave it one last try, and I could clean the clogged drain hose, and it worked like charm; working with the ring clamps were the most difficult part due to lack of proper tools. thanks a lot for sharing the video
Steve has saved me hundreds of dollars between this and the LG dryer roller replacement video. I think it's super helpful how he shows the reassembly as well, because reversing the process isn't always as it should be. Thanks so much! 👍
Great video. I was going to call a repair guy but after watching your video I was able to fix it myself and the drain motor was only $64.99. Thank you!
This video is stupid beyond belief! Just pull the washer out a few feet and tilt it back towards the wall. You can access the pump through the bottom of the machine without taking the whole dang thing apart! This video is like changing a light bulb by accessing the fixture through the room of your house! Steve you’re a life saver! Took me 2:45 hours start to finish and saved days and money going to the laundromat waiting for a repairman that would have charged $300 plus parts or more! My cost was $27.00 for the part! Thank you soooo much!
saved me a ton of coin. I didn't wan to spend 300-400 to have someone fix it but I also didn't want to spend $700-$1,000 to get a new one. This video worked perfect and I have more money for food.
Did this on my second try. The replacement pump was not fixed firmly so water leaked on my first try to fix it. You are awesome! Saved me at least five hundred bucks. Thanks a lot.
I am an old retired industrial service technician and this is an excellent training video. I particularly liked, at 6:20, seeing blood on your finger; I think I've bled on every job!! Also, I am please that you showed a well used machine; a new machine would often not present the "gotchas" that an older machine may have.
Hi there. I just replaced the pump, re-assembled everything correctly and set it to wash a load. I monitored everything throughout the entire cycle and even lifted the drain hose out from the drain to verify that the washer was indeed removing water out through the hose. The load ended, I opened the drain pump compartment and checked the hose (the small one with the screw cap) and I immediately noticed a small drizzle (bad sign). I then began unscrewing the drain pump's cap and sure enough it was full of water, which was my original problem. Any ideas on what to do next? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@@daniel_ukiah My LG always has some residual water in the drain hose (behind that panel) and pump filter assembly. The maintenance instructions for the washer indicate that you're supposed to drain it before cleaning the pump filter. So long as it's couple quarts or so, that's to be expected. The pump isn't going to be able to force enough air up the main drain hose to clear the water out of that into the drain! When my pump failed, it was obvious - nothing was making it up to the normal drain hose, it was making a bunch of noise, and the only thing the pump was able to do was to somewhat speed up draining the entire washing machine through the drain hose. I ended up finishing a load by initiating rinse and spin cycles from the front panel and draining the whole washing machine through the small drain hose - an hour of draining into tubs and having my kids run them to the sink. Now I'm replacing the pump motor assembly!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Saved a thousand dollars buying a new washer. Took my husband and I an hour or so and spent 37 bucks on the pump. Excellent video!!!
This is an amazing video. I followed it step by step and was able to replace my drain pump motor. Easy, Fast, Simple. These guys know their stuff!! Professional and knowledgeable!!! I will be back to watch more!
Far and away the best 'how to' video I have seen. After watching this it took me 1 hour to have my washer up and running. Clear step by step dismantle, repair, re-assemble.
Steve- thanks so much! Between a video sharing what a broken pump sounds like, and YOUR video on how to fix it, problem identified and fixed within 2 days, by me. Really, REALLY appreciate your video!
I am a 60 year old female and I did it just like you taught. Thank you so much. Saved my hundreds. My husband was ready to go buy a new one and I asked him to let me give it a try.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Just finished mine, I was checking in with the video at every step, and it's draining like a champ now! $22.50 and some elbow grease vs. the $300 the repair tech quoted me over the phone!
This video is stupid beyond belief! Just pull the washer out a few feet and tilt it back towards the wall. You can access the pump through the bottom of the machine without taking the whole dang thing apart! This video is like changing a light bulb by accessing the fixture through the room of your house! Thank you Bob for your video. Our 5 yr old LG Model WM3670HVA would not drain - bought a new pump and with your help was able to install the pump and we are now doing our first load of laundry for a while. Do to where we live I could not find an appliance repair person to travel out to our home to install the pump so your video was invaluable. Again thank you!!
Thank you for this video! It was very helpful! I'd like to point out that its easier if you address the control panel retaining tab *before* you release the clips. If you do the clips first, it causes additional pressure against the tab - making it more difficult to pry. Also, its generally advised to use a phillips screwdriver to remove the bellows band clamp, as its less likely to cut into the rubber. However, my advice on that is to use a plastic pry tool as to not accidentally cut the expensive bellows.
5 years later, here I am again! Only this time was to replace the drainage hose which had a hole in it due to the unnecessary rubbing of it against one of the lower shocks! Either way… I cannot find words to express my gratitude for this gentleman’s knowledge and great efforts in transmitting such detail during the guidance footage of this video! Thank you 🙏🏼 thank you 🙏🏼 thank you 🙏🏼
yes, me too. thats what an excellent instructor can do. i would have been lost if he would not have mentioned the pump motors different kinds of anchors cause mine had a metal bracket on the bottom and i wouldn't have known.
Steve; I carefully watched your instructional video documenting the procedure for replacing a door seal on an LG Front load washer; your ability to communicate is nothing than outstanding ! Especially the segment pertaining to the fitment of the door seal to the washer's drum and the use of locking pliers and a flat-blade screwdriver to install the metal retaining ring to the drum-seal interface. The language was clear concise and unambiguous. The visual aspect of the video clearly depicted the finer points of the job with clarity and preciseness. I picked up on the Canadian🇨🇦accent as I live in Buffalo, NY on the border; hence the impeccable use of the English language. Keep up the good work and I look forward to viewing your productions in the future.
Thanks, perfect and clear instructions! I ordered the part and did it myself, saved a few hundred bucks I imagine! Putting the spring on was a 2 person job though!
I have had to replace my pump 3 times. After the first experience I never wanted to mess with that spring again. I purchased the spring expander on amazon for $12. Well worth it.
This is a great video and helped me replace my LG drain pump. Thank you so much for the detailed video. The one thing I will point out that was not mentioned in the video is that when you are installing the new drain pump, in addition to the two hoses with the clamps that we shown in the video, you have to remember to put the smaller black hose tube on the back of the pump. This is the black hose that is in the the door opening on the bottom left hand side with the drain filter. If you don't do this, water will leak out. I experienced this and had to do back and connect this hose. the hose connection is on the back of the drain pump, NOT the one in the front pointing up. Was able to order the replacement pump on Amazon for $25 and received the next day. This video allowed me to fix the washer over the weekend and save hundreds of dollars if a repairman had to come out. Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Due to your excellent and detailed instructions i was able to take everything apart without pulling the machine out of a tight space. There were only a few minor differences between your LG machine and mine, i was able to get the pump out in about an hour, counting finding tools. I phoned Reliable Parts in Edmonton Alberta and they are sending the new pump by courier for only $11 shipping. The part was about $70, and it is a genuine LG. I wasn’t sure if it was the pump , it would hum for about 10 seconds then quit, and not drain. Turns out the impeller had snapped off. So it did need replacing. I am a handy mom, but definitely this is not my specialty. Your video is excellent! How kind of you to make it. Thank you.
Excellent video, with a clear step by step process, thank you! My washer pump died, called a repair shop, they couldn't fix it before 2 week time. Forget it! I watched the video and my objectives were: 1) Not hurt myself 2) Not destroy the washer 3) Fix the washer 4) Save money Ordered the pump on Amazon, It got it in one day, and followed this video. I achieved all the objectives above! And if I can do it anybody can do it!
This was fantastic. My model is a little newer so the pump assembly was on a tray which had to be removed by a 10mm socket. Luckily mine just had some fabric caught which was causing the pump to not turn. This video was a great help. Did the whole tear apart and put back within 30 minutes.
This is the only instructional video that mentioned that there may be a bolted metal frame holding the pump on the washer machine. Every other one talked about pressing down on a plastic clip to slip the pump motor back. Thank God for this video. Ours was bolted in.
dude you was awesome I've never worked on a washing machine and I watched the video took the pump and there was a penny inside the motor. Ty without this video I could not have done it!!!!!!
Used your video to change my pump a little over 2 weeks ago. It was stopping me almost every load with the OE code. After the replacement, not a single fail in 2-3 weeks of laundry. Thanks!!! $40 part and about an hour of time instead of having to hire a repair man or buy a new washer.
Great video, very helpful for those inclined to pursue the art of repair for themselves. However, one step was omitted during reassembly. At 3:04 , during disassembly, you removed a short machine screw behind the drain pump panel. This screw retains the front panel of the washer in conjunction with several screws on the top of the front panel. You forgot to mention to install this short screw during reassembly. Otherwise, thank you ,sir.
Well done video, thank you. You forgot to include one step in the reassemble process. The short screw near the drain hose needs to be replaced before you put the cover on. My washer is back to normal, thanks again.
Steve - YOU ROCK!!! Ordered the pump for $44.00 and watched your video. Granted, putting the wire back around the gasket would have been easier for a man, but none the less...got it done. Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars. Happy Holidays, Darla Kaye!
Thanks for such a detailed description of performing this repair! Did it just like you showed and fixed my problem. (Found a finish nail lodged in the pump, removed it and reassembled so I didn't even need a pump or motor!)
Good to see! Think this is what I'll need to do, only the culprit is dried beans. Ugh. I still kind of hear a draining sound so the pump is trying to work. It sounds slow.
Nine years later this is still helping people! I am a senior lady and was able to follow along and get it taken apart! I do not know if it is the drain pump that is bad OR the little tiny drain tube that is plugged up (sandy gunk in it), but I think I will replace both since I don't want to do this twice. It took me about an hour and I needed to use my drill on reverse to get the screws out that hold on the front panel. Thanks!!
Great video, Just did this repair on our LG that quit after 7 years, the shaft rusted out on the motor. Only took about 30 minutes to take apart, but 6 DAYS to wait for the part ordered online. (the closest part store is 3 hrs away & it wasnt in stock). Had it put in and running in about 20 minutes, and like other comments, that spring was the worst part. Wife is happy again !! Thanks!!
Lol, that's nearly what happened to us, and we live in a city of 500,000. No one (that I found) had the part in stock, so I ordered online for $35. That was Monday, it didn't arrive until Friday. At least the video made it easy enough that I was able to get it back together in less than half an hour.
This video is stupid beyond belief! Just pull the washer out a few feet and tilt it back towards the wall. You can access the pump through the bottom of the machine without taking the whole dang thing apart! This video is like changing a light bulb by accessing the fixture through the room of your house! LOL!
@@joerob3449 You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Tilt the machine back and access the pump from underneath. Is that too hard for you to understand? WTF?!?
Fantastic! Thank you so much for this incredibly helpful video. Just finished swapping in a new drain pump and it works like a charm. FYI - reinstalling the spring clamp w/out spring pliers was the toughest step, but it can be done. Recommend long handled pliers for extra leverage, and some patience. Thanks again!
Great video. Was able to change out my drain pump successfully. Only cost 20 dollars for pump and less than 2 hours. Hardest part was the front panel clamp. Had to get my wife to help while I was pulling on spring.
This video was incredible. I didn't have to go as far as replacing the motor, but I felt confident that I could if I needed to, with your help. Thank you so much!
Did you just need to clean something out? We had beans in our washer and I think they're clogging somethi g. We have the OE code. But I can hear it sort of draining in the drain tube.
I have changed the motor but my washer is still not draining I tested pump in the sink and it pumps water but not enough to push water up the drain hose any suggestions? Thank you for your help
Thanks a lot. It was very clear instructions to follow. I ordered the new pump from Amazon and replaced it today. $28 parts and 2 hours of my time and it is now working again.
Great job with the video, it was perfect! The only difference I saw was that I could install the new pump in multiple orientations on the connection with the drain housing so I had to look for the original screw marks to get the correct alignment.
Thank you. Your step by step worked like a charm. Your video, a $26 dollar OEM part from Amazon, lots of patience and 30 minutes later the job was success!!!
I just had to replace this part and there is an easier way to do it. When my pump first stopped working, I followed instructions similar to this to take the drain pump out and found that the turbine on the motor had come off. Everything I read said you have to replace the pump because the turbine will keep coming off. I couldn't get a new pump for 5 days, so I super glued the turbine back on and put everything back together. Getting the spring clamp back on was super hard since it hadn't been touched before. It took 2 people. When the new pump came in, I had read that you can access it from the bottom. Just lean the washer back about 45 degrees and you can get to everything you need. You will only need a phillips head screwdriver for the entire process. Do the instructions that start at 1:40 to unscrew the drain pump housing. Then just tilt the washer back and access the back of the pump housing to release the latch (shown at 6:09) then you can pull the pump and housing out enough to access it. Unhook the electrical wires and unscrew the pump and put on the new one. Attached the wires and run them through the clips on the housing that hold them. Run the drain hose back in as you put the housing back into the latch. Screw the pump housing back in from the front and put the plastic parts back (make sure the drain hose comes out as it was when you started). Having done it the long way (as shown here) is helpful for the knowledge of where things are, but you just have to take apart way too many things that are not involved in the pump replacement. I was able to replace my pump in less than 15 minutes.
Excellent.. Thank you. I'm waiting on my pump but that install sounds much better. I've done those drum rings before and there a bitch! But thanks to the partselect guy.
First, I am not the most Handy person and usually call professionals to fix my appliances but I found this video and decided to try replacing the drain pump myself and I am happy to report it was a SUCCESS!!!! Second, this video a gives very clear and easy step by step guide how to replace the drain pump and makes it simple even for the someone who is not particularly Handy. GREAT VIDEO!!!
Thank you!!
Thanks for the comment. We are happy that we could help.
Because of this 7 year old video, I gave my wife the best mother's day gift. Now she can spend mother's day doing laundry. Thank you very much
Thank you for the easy to follow video.
1) Disconnect washer - power and water
2) Remove Top - Top screws in back, slide back
3) Remove Control Panel - 1 screw in corner then 3 tabs and it pops off. Set it on top of washer but can leave it connected.
4) Remove drain clearance and plate (2 screws)
5) Remove gasket from front of washer - spring removal tool
6) Remove front of washer - 5 or 6 screws on top and 1 elec connection. Lift and remove
7) For ease of access, get a 4 x 4 to put under washer and raise it to 30 deg angle or so
8) Remove drain pump hoses by releasing clamps
9) Disconnect wires (note position - Brown Top Black bottom / take pic)
10) Remove pump assembly
a. 2 screws from bottom hold it to bracket
b. 3 bolts hold assembly to washer
11) Remove drain pump from assembly
a. 3 screws - note orientation / Take pic
12) Remove white plastic pump cover
13) Replace pump
14) Reassemble pump assembly
15) Slide assembly in place
16) Be sure elec connections are good before securing pump assembly
17) …remaining assembly steps.
I wish I had read your comment first...ended with less screws than I had when I started lol.
Yep, take the video as you take it apart and when ready to re-assemble just play the video backwards! LMAO!
@@madderall_dot_com hi....I agree pathetic instruction.....
Total waste of time..
R Mason
Is there any code for the pump when u it bought at amazon?
62 years young woman did it!!! Thanks Steve
That’s a brilliant idea!! I’m gonna try that. But would tipping the front loader on its side cause any issue later on?
How do you remove the screws holding it in place without removing the face??
Mine had 2 bolts up front that you can’t get to from underneath. Had to take the front off.
Where is your video then... I may try this, a little help
Glad it helped, and thanks for watching!
6+ years later and here I am, performing the same part replacement and relying on your video to walk me through it again! I dreaded it a little bit, but your video again showed me that its not that difficult a process and that its just a little time consuming. Thank you!
I'm doing mine for the third time in 4 years😢
Steve, that was awesome.

It's the best of all of them.
maybe upgrade to an industrial washer that can handle abuse
Thanks
Well thanks to you I replace the drain pump again. I'm a 67-year grandma and because of you I'm able to fix my own machine for $40
Thanks Steve, with your video I was able to fix my washing machine. Now it's draining perfectly and I saved $200 bucks!!!
I have to say, his instructions were spot on! I bought the part, watched the video twice, and then followed the video the third time, stopping it when I needed to. I was able to fix my washer. It's in there right now washing a load! Thank you so much for this video. It saved me a lot of money.
Bought the pump on Amazon for $27, followed the directions on this video, washer works perfect! Thank you!
Any code what kind of pump to buy or check my LG washing machine for the right one... 😊
I have now done this process 3 times within a 10 year period. Thanks for the detailed explanation and the patience shown throughout the process. I saved hundreds with your tutorial. Thank You 🙏
This is my second time. You think there's any way to prevent the hose from clogging causing this?
Big Thank you to the efforts of this video, this should be a wake up call to the manufactures to start engineering their products for end user replaceable parts. With the help of this video (during Covid) I changed this myself for $40CAD. A front door access panel would be a simple design to avoid the 30 min. it takes to get to this common replaceable part.
I agree. And it would be good to make this pump (and especially the spinning part interfacing with water) higher quality so that this wouldn't be always the first part to fail.
@@MikkoRantalainen Makes me feel like I want to cut my own side access panel... However I don't think my wife would be very happy about it...
How did you know the pump was bad? Where did you get a new one?

You could it that part on Amazon for $21.50-$40.00 depending on seller. But retail is around $65.00 in local stores.

$300-$400 wow you would of got screwed. Normal repair would charge about $120 labor plus $50 part= $170 estimated.

@@daniel_ukiah what ever came of this? did you resolve it, in another video they talked about some switch?

This video and a $20 pump helped me look like a hero to my wife! Thank you so much!
Just finished mine, I was checking in with the video at every step, and it's draining like a champ now! $22.50 and some elbow grease vs. the $300 the repair tech quoted me over the phone!
This is one of the best repair videos I've ever watched. Step-by-step perfect. Steve nails it!
This video is stupid beyond belief! Just pull the washer out a few feet and tilt it back towards the wall. You can access the pump through the bottom of the machine without taking the whole dang thing apart! This video is like changing a light bulb by accessing the fixture through the room of your house! LOL!
Thank you 🙏🏼 thank you 🙏🏼 thank you 🙏🏼
This is so fantastic to hear! Thanks so much for watching!
Step by step clear instructions were wonderful. I've never fixed an appliance in my life and I was able to do it! Thanks!!!!!
yes, me too. thats what an excellent instructor can do. i would have been lost if he would not have mentioned the pump motors different kinds of anchors cause mine had a metal bracket on the bottom and i wouldn't have known.
Steve;
I carefully watched your instructional video documenting the procedure for replacing a door seal on an LG Front load washer; your ability to communicate is nothing than outstanding !
Thank you!!
this guy makes it looks so easy, expert level repair man
no, i did it from his instructions and i have never done it before
Thank you so much! Thank you.
Out of all the videos I’ve seen for this repair, this is the best one. Thank you 👍
Excellent video, with a clear step by step process, thank you!
My washer pump died, called a repair shop, they couldn't fix it before 2 week time. Forget it! I watched the video and my objectives were:
1) Not hurt myself
2) Not destroy the washer
3) Fix the washer
4) Save money
Ordered the pump on Amazon, It got it in one day, and followed this video.
Great to hear!
Thanks Steve, You're The Man!!! We followed every step & our washer is draining like a Paul Peirce Buzzer Beater! That's why You're here!
I didn’t know a single thing about washing machine’s and I just successfully replaced the pump by my self thanks to this very detailed video.
Well done video, thank you. You forgot to include one step in the reassemble process. The short screw near the drain hose needs to be replaced before you put the cover on. My washer is back to normal, thanks again.
Thank you. I was concerned about the extra screw I had
Mine is sitting on my mantle
Thanks Steve !! My husband and I did it ! $40 and fixed thanks to you my 5 year warrenty literally expired 2-6 and on 2-27 drain pump shot craps
This video saved me about $200 in professional installation. Did it in about 1 1/2 hours. Thanks!!
Thanks!!
NOTE: Make sure you have the slip joint pliers or those metal clamps are nearly impossible!!
OUTSTANDING!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Best $62.00 and hour and a half I have spent.
Great demonstration. Very clear - no surprises. The spring is the only part that was a bit of a pain in the butt.
This video is stupid beyond belief! Just pull the washer out a few feet and tilt it back towards the wall. You can access the pump through the bottom of the machine without taking the whole dang thing apart! This video is like changing a light bulb by accessing the fixture through the room of your house! LOL!
@@kevinjones1111 if you don’t lock down your drum you can throw it out of balance you responded to a 4 year old comment get a life you knob eater
@@joerob3449 you must have been one of the geniuses that spent 3 hours doing a 20 minute job....."knob eater"? Lol....how old are you?
@@joerob3449 You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. Tilt the machine back and access the pump from underneath. Is that too hard for you to understand? WTF?!?
THANK YOU!!!!! My 12 year old son and I changed this part ourselves because of this video. Total $40 CAD.
Good call Chris! I experienced the same thing.
Yes i wished i had marked the screw holes.
Nah, too late but pumps do break so i will follow your instruction tje next time. And i would not have to fight with the rubber.
Easier from the bottom. That spring is a night mare. Take the bottom panel of and turn the machine upside down. Pump easy accessible .
