Mustangs needs a starter, modifying a used x pipe and using mil eliminators. Thank you so much, i got it up on ramps and was like o wow... this made me feel at ease. Man its tight under there 97 gt, with factory mid pipe by the way.... Edit: both exhaust and starter is out. Took me a while for the top bolt, but to anyone struggling with it. Tools needed, 3 coors lights, 1/4 inch drive fixed head (not sure exactly name, "like a breaker bar"), 3 inch extension, to 1/4 to 3/8 adapter and deep well 13 mm...snaked my left arm up the bell housing to feel the bolt, and right arm had wrench in hand going up through 02,exhaust, etc. Took about 30 mins of micro turns but it came. Other two I went from front with looooong extensions through provided holes and used an elbow on middle and the bottom
Good thing I have more than one vehicle. Anyway, I would imagine this would be easier to do if you had a hydraulic lift - especially for an old geezer like me.
If anyone can help me my starter isn’t lining up. The dude cut one ear off that I bought the car from and it was fitting in there with the teeth and it was fine but now it won’t. I had changed the starter head over before and did it again with a brand new starter and now it’s not wanting to fit and I have a 96 5 speed transmission with an early 5.0 in it that’s non efi and it’s not getting up in there to line the teeth up anymore

IT USUALLY STARTS THE FIRST TIME, OR A CLICK THEN 2ND ATTEMPT. STARTER ENGAGES AND SPINS FINE. SOMETIMES JUST ONE CLICK AND NO ACTION. MAYBE LOOSE CONNECTION ON SOLENOID?.
@@and_lutzi had long tubes on mine and yes it's impossible to get it off, long tubes have to come off and put back on. but it takes like 8-10 hours to do those long tubes
@@ii_xcookiemilker460x5 That's probably how long it would take me - maybe I should add an extra hour since I'm an old geezer. I've replaced starters on 15 kW backup generators but this Mustang job looks a lot more difficult. One video I watched had recommended taking off the exhaust pipes.

taking off the stability brace and mid-pipe is a huge help when getting the starter off. But if you have magic hands I guess it doesn't matter.

no wiggle space whatsoever, I decided to drop it off at a shop. Got to frustrated with that last bolt.
I got a remanufactor starter the car drive two week now my car wont turn on just one click what do u think it can be

I have a 04 mustang….. 3.9 v6 …. Are the starters different on the manual or automatic transmission or are they the same
Starter is the same for Auto or Manual, the V6 has a little more room to work on than the v8

Bad negative cable terminal. Mine does this 🤦🏾♂️

I have longtube headers it's impossible to get the last bolt off the starter thinking about removing headers

This one took me about 1.5 to 2 hours, my saleen with a manual transmission took about 1 hour

I did not. it's just tight in there.
Don't know what bolt go in it they are missing
i know it's a year late but i i just had this problem i can send you the part number if ya want
Im about take mine to the scrap yard. Cant see or feel the last bolt, its impossible I think the motor supposed to come out to get to the bolt.
