I have been debating getting a new edge for years and doing some sort of engine swap. I was thinking LS due to cost, thinking a 5.0 would be way too expensive. This is my first time watching your channel and I appreciate this video! Definitely gonna be watching the build videos.
Back in the day it cost me 4 grand just to rebuild my 97 cobra engine stock when it failed...that was total payin someone to build it, for parts and the install. This was circa 2005. I would have gave anything if these coyotes existed then for this price i would have dove in and gained 100+ hp lol.
Yep. I can sympathize. I’m working on a 71 mustang I picked up. It has a 351 Cleveland. I’ve put enough money to get it started and driveable after 11 years sitting but find myself weighing the cost of rebuilding it with better parts and bore and stroke it out vs swapping in a coyote or saving up for a crate Godzilla engine to swap in. Let alone the cost of the rest of the restoration. At least I don’t have to worry about emissions.
Keep in mind almost nobody has a full hydraulic lift to drop the engine out below which drastically simplifies the swap. Any shop wanting to do this would probably ask for a small fortune to do so. About how many hours would someone bill for this?
There's a guy that built a non Pi block with ported Pi heads and intake with a procharger ham retainers valves and Springs and was upwards of 600 horse it's on TH-cam so for about the same price you could get a lot more power have the chop from a cam supercharger you get the blow off noise and a whole heck of a lot of less work and stress so it's really your preference because these two valve Motors can make a lot of power
I understand that you couldn’t give exact numbers but you did a great job of breaking it down for me. This exactly what I want to do. It doesn’t have to be a beast but I like surprising people that don’t expect my car to be quick.
11:40 Thats 100% true and important to be aware of because, i would love to swap my car, but i need to be realistic, I can't do it, so I would have to pay labor for all the work including the tune. Hell i dont even have a car elevator in my house.
96-04 v6's manuals running can be found all day long for $500-$800, I'd rather just get one of those, gut it and beat it til it dies, $500 down the toilet oh well. Find some hills and winding roads, you wont even get to 4th gear, but you will be having a blast. Also keep a bicycle in the trunk in case it breaks down and just ride the bike home lmao. In all seriousness if you are doing it yourself you can get away with a swap for $5k-$8k, if you are not doing it yourself you will spend $12k-$20k with all the help from different shops that you will need. Great breakdown video though!
So, question: I have a 97 GT, so no problems there, but it's a convertible. Would those additional cross supports in the engine bay make this swap a no go?
Fantastic series of videos swapping a Coyote into a New Edge SN95. This video does a nice job summing it all up. Only question I had was whether the stock 5-speed trans is up to the task of handling the Coyote 5.0 even with an upgraded clutch - Long term can the 5 speed really work and hold the torque over time or do you recommend moving up to a 6 speed? Thanks
Love this series! Can you do a more in depth video on what it took to get the engine to start? Seems theres not a lot of footage of the wiring and prepping for a first fire on youtube. Cheers!
I have seen plenty of Supercharged 4.6 Mod Motors make around 425 RWHP....mine (NON-Intercooled) is tuned to 390 RWHP for reliability. I think I will swap in a built Short Block and Intercooler and tune it to 430 and save some money and hassle!

@Harbinger also I mean yea it would be a little more expensive than what he quoted because I would go atleast gen 2 but overall I think 3500 I could find a lower mileage gen 2
So why is a 1994 or 1995 GT not included in possible year to convert to the newer Coyote 5.0L? The stock 5.0L is gutless in those years and a swap seems the cheaper solution for substantial increase in HP.

I appreciate this video. Thank you for getting right down to it because I could never find a straight answer on cost or all the parts it takes to do the swap.

Lincoln Ls Ahead of it's time. The Lincoln LS and last generation t-bird uses the DEW98 platform, which is shared with the Jaguar s type. Don’t get me wrong, it was an incredible platform for its time period, being developed in the mid 90’s with a perfect weight balance. But it’s NOT the same platform as the 15^ mustangs use, which is the s550 platform. Ford hasn’t used the DEW98 platform since 2006. And jaguar hasn’t used it in 6 year. Point being, that your car(which I really like and have owned), has nothing to do with a 15^ mustang(which I currently own a 2019 GT). Absolutely nothing about them interchanges and they were developed by two different generations of engineers.
*2002-2005, and even high mileage ones don’t come cheap as they’re double or triple the price of an SN-95. I just bought an 11th gen T-bird this past February and there’s a near nonexistent aftermarket community for parts. Your best bet is to stick to the Jaguar engines used in the DEW98 platform but supposedly it’s a nightmare getting the electronics to line up with the car.
I have a completely stock 03 2v motor with a kenny bell supercharger that is turned all the down making 455 WHP and is capable of 650-700 WHP with a built mmr motor lol point is the 2v is capable of making plenty of power for street application !!!
It can be done but it's just as difficult as it would be in a fox body. It works easier and cheaper with 96 up because you can use the same trans (5speed) same brake booster same motor mounts etc. It literally drops right in where if you have an older 5 liter from 1995 and back it requires all that stuff to be replaced on top of all the stuff he went over in the video
On the black new edge I’m curious to know what transmission y’all put in that car. You mentioned what could work just curious what one you put in that car.
For anyone who wants to know for a v6 all you need to do is swap over the transmission from a gt or build your t5 to handle more power.... also need to swap the rear end... really your looking at like 8k and that’s light imo
Nice part is while new edge cars aren't featherweights, they're a good bit lighter than even the lightest mustang the coyote came in. Should turn it into a very fun daily!
Could you update us with a weight on the car with v,say a half tank of fuel. 96'-04' cars were definitely lighter which is good, but how much additional weight does the swap add. Be curious as this is something I've been looking at doing as a project car and adding a pro charger
Cheapest engine option I found is to get a wrecked mustang, preferably rear end collision, and pull it yourself. Also it saves time to build the engine as much as you’d like before putting it in.
The only thing that keeps me away from this swap is that the 2v sounds sooooo much better than a coyote. I may just get another new edge and swap that one and continue to daily my current one.
Question...wouldn't an ls swap be just as much if not more involved as far as different swap parts needed to make it work and stuff like that. I ain't talking about slapping a carb on it I mean keeping the fuel injection like this build. Wouldn't alot of the stuff cost similar prices other than the engine itself? Ppl talk about how cheap ls swaps are but in a mustang is it really that much cheaper than a coyote? The engine itself might be cheaper if you get a truck 4.8 or some shit but outside of that I dont see anyone saving that much going ls over coyote now that the coyote prices are starting to come down. Seems to me a coyote swap would be easier and not much more expensive if any (in a new edge car) if keeping fuel injection with the ls.
Thanks for starting off saying the price and not being like other people and making us wait thru a 32 min video

This was the perfect video at the perfect time. Going to look at picking up a 2001 SC GT this weekend. I know it’s going to be on borrowed time with me driving it, but now I have a good path to reference when it happens.
Oh yeah baby, let’s start this build off right!
I have been debating getting a new edge for years and doing some sort of engine swap. I was thinking LS due to cost, thinking a 5.0 would be way too expensive. This is my first time watching your channel and I appreciate this video! Definitely gonna be watching the build videos.
Best info on a coyote swap I’ve heard yet. Thank you sir! Love your channel.
been looking for a build breaking this down now i feel confident to go buy a gen 2 5.0 and you listed all the parts i need u sir are a saint
Thanks for taking the time! You covered a lot of great items quickly and well organized.
I wish all swap guys were this way . Tons of factual helpful info .
Price is a real value.
It cost me more than that to bore and stroke my 302 .
Any videos coming on the dash co tool panel I stall??
Glad you mentioned the electronics at the end , I almost asked a dumb question. Thinking about getting a 98 GT maual that need a motor ,motor work.
Keep in mind almost nobody has a full hydraulic lift to drop the engine out below which drastically simplifies the swap.
Any shop wanting to do this would probably ask for a small fortune to do so.
About how many hours would someone bill for this?
That's what alot of people forget. The majority of ppl don't have lifts which makes an engine swap 100x easier. Shops charge out the ass
Can you swap the 94/95 5.0 pushrod mustangs though? I thought of it since mines a 5.0 already would be sweet homage to it
no, build 347 if you have 5.0
I understand that you couldn’t give exact numbers but you did a great job of breaking it down for me. This exactly what I want to do. It doesn’t have to be a beast but I like surprising people that don’t expect my car to be quick.
What about coyote swap 2001 Ford excursion that has a v10 in it
Give her hell!
Make sure to blog that build.
Now I'm imagining a 6.8 with coyote heads
@@billysandals you can do this ?
How much to put it in a 05/09. That's one of my favorite yeah's. And then the 11/14.
Make this video for 05 09 mustangs PLEASE
11:40 Thats 100% true and important to be aware of because, i would love to swap my car, but i need to be realistic, I can't do it, so I would have to pay labor for all the work including the tune. Hell i dont even have a car elevator in my house.
Labor is never free time is money and thank you for the homebuilding shout out
Thanks for the breakdown. I needed this for a future build budget. My answer to anyone asking how much for anything..." Ya know. It's relative"
I saw a salvage title 2020 f150 5.0 with the 10spd running and driving sell for 2,200$ plus shipping
You mean 22,000??? If not that’s just ridiculous
I wonder if it would be possible to put a coyate in a 1999 Ford explorer limited???
Probably not without a lot of cutting
@@FoxcastMedia that's what I thought! Whole engine bay would probably need some love! Maybe when this 80,000 5.0L goes🤔
Wont fit without losing your a/c.
Awesome info. I just did a body swap with a 73 Maverick to an 04 Mustang GT and now looking for that engine upgrade.
Well I just got inspired to do a swap.
I have a o2 gt and have plans for this high key
So, question: I have a 97 GT, so no problems there, but it's a convertible. Would those additional cross supports in the engine bay make this swap a no go?
Same here, but 03 gt. Would like to know as well
97 GT Vert, automatic planning on switching to manual. Can this be done with the extra 💰
How about a auto trans behind the coyote?
Fantastic series of videos swapping a Coyote into a New Edge SN95. This video does a nice job summing it all up. Only question I had was whether the stock 5-speed trans is up to the task of handling the Coyote 5.0 even with an upgraded clutch - Long term can the 5 speed really work and hold the torque over time or do you recommend moving up to a 6 speed? Thanks
How would the swap be different if it was the 3.9l V6? Not price, but parts.
Can I send my car to you guys to get it done, I’m from Mississippi
I'm wondering where they are located..
What about the auto lovers is it that same or more / differences
SHORT ANSWER... $8000 in all the parts / around $7500-$10,000 in 100hrs of labor
That's the price I was given 7 years ago
But that’s if you don’t do it yourself
@@likaboss302 even if you did it yourself good luck finding parts for cheap. No offense to the Foxcast but he has access to lift, has connections which is why its 5400 USD FOR HIM to do. Not for us.
Harbinger I mean my grandfather has a garage he used to tune up cars and do his own restorations in with a two post lift so with him me my dad and my grandfathers best friend which is like my second grandfather we could do it in a couple weekends
@Harbinger also I mean yea it would be a little more expensive than what he quoted because I would go atleast gen 2 but overall I think 3500 I could find a lower mileage gen 2
Do you happen to remember what the fix was for the FPCM wiring issue? (Where the FP wasn't getting power when the key was turned)
Another great video Caleb! Someday I might do a swap on my 93 Cobra. Have you and Dover do it for me.
So why is a 1994 or 1995 GT not included in possible year to convert to the newer Coyote 5.0L? The stock 5.0L is gutless in those years and a swap seems the cheaper solution for substantial increase in HP.
Have you done any coyote swaps into an automatic 2000-2004 GT
Easily 10K in parts doing it the right way, plus price of car if needs to be purchased and probably labor hours. At least a 20K project , and this is not adding any performance parts. I would love to own a fox with a coyote swap tho. One day!!! I will. Btw you guys do amazing work keep up the good work 👍🏼👍🏼
But the 2V sound sooo good!!!
I thought I was the only one 🤙🏽
it really does!
@@EDeeire Lol not even close to the only one. The 2v is iconic, one of the best sounding ford engines ever made.
JustDrive4Life Meh, 4V 03-04 cobras sound much better imo
gustavo761 Well they got that supercharger whine so of course 😁.
So would it be a lot more or less for an auto
Can you swap a coyote in a new edge with an auto transmission?
With an auto you would also need a trans to...like a 6r80 for example. You cant simply bolt it up to the original trans like you can with the manual that is what he meant. I believe they make the control pack and stuff for autos now I'm not sure.
I appreciate this video. Thank you for getting right down to it because I could never find a straight answer on cost or all the parts it takes to do the swap.
And for us that can't do the labor ourselves just double that price I guess 😂
Triple it my friend. Sadly.
Even more than double actually
😢😢😢😢😢😢
Shit, it'd be a hook up price. And you'd still have to blow him.
The difference between you thinking you can't do it vs you being able to is the selection of tools you have at your disposal, space/garage, and time.
Thanks for the great info Caleb!
Wonderful and informative video. Thank you for this. Mine is a 2002 GT too, but mine is automatic.
Ive got a 2000 gt and its automatic but im still wondering how much it could be to swap 🤔
I’m trying figure that out can we swap auto
Thank you for the video, You guys are always killin it!
What about coilovers are they needed or just extra
Wait so did this bolt up to the stock manual trans that's in the gt or did he get one i cant seem to find where he mentions this
I’m pretty sure he uses the stock trans he just says you might need a new clutch
Stock trans. He explains it all in the video. 96-04, GT manual with a 4.6 in it. Yoy do need a 10 bolt fly wheel, as the GT comes with an 8 bolt. This is bare bones cost, so if you can't even follow this video, odds are you're looking at 12k for parts and labor.
@@HeIsDreaMe The gentleman above me misspoke, you are able to bolt up the flywheel/clutch/trans from the 5 speed GTs (8 bolt flywheel) to the 5.0 (8 bolt crank). You do not need a new flywheel if you are on a budget.
I know you said you don't try to tell us how much it would cost to swap a coyote in a fox body but if could try on mine it is a 1985 gt with a rebuilt stick transmission and a 302 hatch back and 1993 rear end and
93 breaks
So what it cost to do a v6 car that’s the real question
At this point sell your v6 and invest in a GT
$10-20k ish, ballpark lol.
Donor car and its cheap
can't be done, sell V6 buy V8
$1000000
Awesome video thank you I’m wanting to do this to my 97 mustang gt it’s exactly what I needed I appreciate it
Coyote swap an 02-06 t bird
Do it
Lincoln Ls Ahead of it's time.
I actually want to do this
*2002-2005, and even high mileage ones don’t come cheap as they’re double or triple the price of an SN-95. I just bought an 11th gen T-bird this past February and there’s a near nonexistent aftermarket community for parts. Your best bet is to stick to the Jaguar engines used in the DEW98 platform but supposedly it’s a nightmare getting the electronics to line up with the car.
That car was so ugly.
I have a completely stock 03 2v motor with a kenny bell supercharger that is turned all the down making 455 WHP and is capable of 650-700 WHP with a built mmr motor lol point is the 2v is capable of making plenty of power for street application !!!
I’m curios about a 1995 manual V8 🤔
It can be done but it's just as difficult as it would be in a fox body. It works easier and cheaper with 96 up because you can use the same trans (5speed) same brake booster same motor mounts etc. It literally drops right in where if you have an older 5 liter from 1995 and back it requires all that stuff to be replaced on top of all the stuff he went over in the video
You’re a beast for this one.
YOU KNOW, people watching this video that want to do this are straight up buying exactly what you posted.
8k? Have you never heard of a donor car ?
Holy shit that is SO cheap, might be my next project,
I was wondering if that price includes 04 mach 1s aswell?
You Sir, know your shit! Bottom line you get what you pay for. How fast you wanna go? How much ya got?
Can you put a 5.0 with auto trans in the 03 mustang
Nice part is while new edge cars aren't featherweights, they're a good bit lighter than even the lightest mustang the coyote came in.
Should turn it into a very fun daily!
Could you update us with a weight on the car with v,say a half tank of fuel. 96'-04' cars were definitely lighter which is good, but how much additional weight does the swap add. Be curious as this is something I've been looking at doing as a project car and adding a pro charger
How about a 2005 Ford GT mustang Fox body I like to put a coyote engine down in the car
That is coming next, we are doing a 2008 GT
Cheapest engine option I found is to get a wrecked mustang, preferably rear end collision, and pull it yourself. Also it saves time to build the engine as much as you’d like before putting it in.
An even better option is a rear end wrecked f150 with the 5.0. The truck engines have a few more goodies as well
The only thing that keeps me away from this swap is that the 2v sounds sooooo much better than a coyote.
I wanna invest in a car lift to do this myself tbh
