- It was the Ugliest Mustang I could find, but with these three simple upgrades we made it look way more presentable. I bought one of the ugliest mustangs in Utah, but thankfully I could see the vision of what this car could be. By simply removing a few changes the previous owner had installed, selecting a new set of wheels and adjusting the suspension, this 2003 New Edge Mustang GT now looks presentable enough to begin the serious modifications.

Mustang II (both versions) were beautiful. It was the Foxbody piece of GARBAGE that was ugly. So ugly in fact that it was the ugliest car Ford every made. WAY worse than the Edsel.

I can't for the life of me understand why people want to live in an HOA! I do a lot of work in HOA neighborhoods and between what I see and what I hear from residents I don't see the benefits! You buy a house then still pay $300+ a month to the HOA for them to tell what you can and can do to your own home! That definitely isn't for me!

An HOA is like guardrails for a neighborhood.. Protects your investment from having your neighbor leave a bunch of crap around that would devalue your house. In essence, it’s insurance, especially relevant if you want to benefit from your home as an investment asset.

I couldn’t pass on a set of 19” staggered thorq thruster 5 spoke wheels for my 2000 gt, they look alright… but I want the same rims in 17x10 as well haha had 18’s on my 2003 Mach one and I never liked them either. 17x10’s the executive decision has been made haha

I got stock wheels in the front and 17x10.5 stock style wheels in the rear and it just makes it so much more appealing. The second day I had them on I was walking into a store and a kid walked up to my car and pointed at my wheels and yelled to his parents "look how big they are!" and I knew I made the right choice lmao.
Looks alot better! Needs another 2”+ lower, but massive improvement
2" and some 1" spacers up front, and 1.5" out back. It'll give it a Cobra stance, and that's always good

LT, those are OEM 98 Cobra wheels, they are NOT the same as the Cobra R wheels. I’d hate for you to buy the 17x10.5 rears to figure it out after they’re mounted. They look kinda similar but the spokes on the 98 Cobra wheels have a more aggressive bow to them and the spokes are slightly thinner than the 95 Cobra R wheels.

it definitely looks way better. I can't wait to see what's next ... Mini-tub? And all the other suspension and engine upgrades! Hopefully the HOA stays semi quiet about your line of work.
Those were all the right things to do to start out. Nice job. I would have done the same. The cobra wheels are actually 1998 cobra wheels. They were a 1 year only wheel and I had them on my 98 cobra. So they are not the 95 cobra R wheel even though they look similar.
The old aftermarket rims kind of look like stock newer Honda Accord rims.

OK, so LT how about an old school Cleveland for this build? Lots of parts available, huge flow potential with the heads. Anyway huge mustang fan and looking forward to see what you do to this thing...keep up the great work!
I would just order the 17x10, the rears currently look a little tucked in, like they need a spacer to bring them out to the fender a little better!
I didn't like the stripes but those wheels look like they belong on a KIA. I don't like them I like the SVT wheels so much better.
First thing that needs to go is those GHETTO pimpmobile reehuums. Put some proper 15" wheels and tires on it.
Got to stick with a big block theme. Maybe a Cadillac 500. Bored and stroked with a compound procharger and remonted rear turbo setup.
Good choice on wheels!! Its amazing how much of a difference it made with removing the stripes and those wheels

Love the transformation. Go with 10.5s in the rear. A window tint, smoked headlights, and a Cobra R hood would go a long way.
You need to wetsand to get rid of the horrible orange peal

So my first vote for an engine was the 7.3 Godzilla. I still that that would be awesome, but I have an even cooler swap. Ford Barra engine. Less weight, big power, and unique.

That does look better. I definitely would have cut 2 coils though, still plenty of wheel gap.
If it's a daily car, just be careful with how low you make it, especially with big ass rear wheels (like me with my 17x10.5) because you will be smashing and bending your fender with your tires, and cut the tires up. I'm stock height and have no issues, but my buddy who has the same setup but is lowered slashed his first set of rear tires, he got his fenders rolled so it's no longer a clearance issue anymore, but something to keep in mind.
You want some wheel gap man, This is a muscle car, Not a tiguana special. 1 inch lower in the front is perfect, you don't even need to lower the back because a mustang or Camaro is supposed to be slightly higher in the back then the front.When you slam any 90s to 2000s Ford, Taurus, Mustang they look like a UFO from those old movies from the 50s.Just stupid

I swapped my 98 cobra wheels with terminators but they look great on that new edge. Also the 95 cobra R wheels are different than those wheels. The spokes have different curvature.

@@LawrenceTolman they might still have a 10.5 rep 98 cobra wheel I'm not entirely sure but I definitely think the wheels you scored are an oem 98 cobra wheel which is way better than a rep wheel imo.
Heck yeah, it looks great now. not a bad sized wheel, and nicely styled.
Unpopular opinion but I actually like the stock height on these. I would not consider lowering them to be an example of "De-ricing" as you said, but actually an example of ricing. No hate though, it looks good lowered too, and the SVT wheels look much better than what it started with. Also looks much better with the stripe delete.

Which blue is that considered? I had a majestic blue.. but it’s long gone now to that racetrack in the sky.
I have a 2000 lx V6 laser red, & a V8 1999 GT black now. But I like that blue a lot
this was a repaint in Azure blue, the 03 Mach 1 color

You can get wheel spacers for cheap with longer wheel studs and that moves back wheels out and looks a 100 percent better

Those wheels may have a Ford part number cast into them, but they were only available to the general public through Ford Racing. The only cars they were ever put on from Ford was the Cobra R models. Never factory installed on any other year/model of Mustang. They’re basically Ford’s own Cobra R replica wheels.

has anyone with 99-04 mustang had a problem with the seat belt warning chime and light constantly going off not only when the seat belts are latched but also when the car is running in park and all the seats are completely empty, and the normal factory seat belt minder disable procedure will not activate so you can't disable system, there are no SRS codes???

got the same wheels on my black newedge, they were a highschool graduation preset from my old man. still have em rockin on the old black car today! i had deep dish in the back. really look great. i have 255 in the front 295 in back sits great

Those wheels are 1998 SVT Cobra wheels. Not what you're referring in the video as 1995 Cobra R. They're the most lightweight Factory wheels, lighter than 95 or 00 R wheels too. By the way you can put Brembo Cobra R big brake kit in those 17 wheels without any clearence issue. Non of the OEM wheel have this opportunity. Also those are the most hard to find SVT Cobra wheel (not including Cobra R wheels). So know the value of them.
I like blue but I think the Sonic Blue looks better. I thought about replacing the K member and installing a lowering kit but it seems like keeping track of where all the nuts and bolts go might be a challenge - not mention the cost. I plan on doing a coyote swap when the 2 V finally dies or when I win the lottery. I won't do a turbo or supercharger though.
I Just bought a 02 mustang gt, same stripes and 4x4 Stance haha, i am going to delete the grille and black housing headlights and for sure cutting my springs and save for somo good coilovers , awesome video!!!
Ugliest? I think the new edge is one of the best looking mustangs ever made. They look way better than what came out from 05 to 10. Idk what they are called but those mustangs are so ugly.

Ah hah! Now I know what happens to all the 10mm. It's ford's doing. Once all the 10mm are gone in the world we will be stuck. With ford's and a 9mm socket. Probably uses a 12 & 14mm just for fun too!

I’m a new subscriber, I watched u on Truck Tech didn’t know where u went until Matt had u on his channel when he was working on the Morrvar. I have a 09 short box, 4.8 stock, reg cab, 2 wheel drive. 142k on miles. I would like to put 4 wd & pep up 4.8, not a race truck but something to have fun with. I retired 2 yrs ago so I have the time short on skills need a little advice on where to start. I know about raise & lowering 4wds I had a truck exactly like ur black truck it was a 99 Chevy short step side bed I lowered it front and rear much like yours.

Purchased a 2004 for my son. Feel like I’m riding in a wagon. Purchased new tires but still an issue? Can you make some suggests? Changed front struts as while and rack and pinion.
That diamond wheel looked like a masonry tuckpointing wheel.

I'm with you, most stock New Edge GT's aren't very good looking. Fortunately the previous owner of my 01 GT did a '00 Cobra R tribute. She sure is purty.
I had a 96'..it was much uglier,your Mustang is good looking in comparison.Then again..all Mustangs are beautiful so an ugly Mustang is still prettier than a good looking Camaro :P

Definitely looks better, I'm just not a fan of that body style. I prefer the 10-13 body style when it comes to modern mustangs. But it looks good.
Are they cobra wheels or cobra r wheels? The white car you showed was a cobra r and those wheels are 17x9
If those aren't cobra r wheels then the 17x10.5 are gonna be slightly different than what you have since i think the 98 cobra used a similar wheel in a 17x8 but again they are different.

I like the project but, I have never liked that body style mustang. I’m fond of the Fox body but, I’ve had 3 of them.

I like to know what you use to remove the white stripes I thought you would have used and then you lowered your car I wish I could get my original springs put them back in
I put 2005 mustang gt rims on my 94 mustang. I put a 2 inch wheel spacer on the rear and 1/4 inch spacer for the front to get the flush look.

Looks a lot better. New edges need 18in rims and slammed. Get a Mach 1 grill delete, 01-04 headlights, and a spoiler delete.

Dude, you've got a lot of vertical space in your garage, why not go vertical? Install a couple of electric cable hoists from the ceiling and lift that frame up and out of the way.

Looks better for sure, I would have cut another coil down personally. Also, I don't think it looked "ricey" before, it was just not good combos IMHO.
sometimes all that's needed is to brush it's teeth and comb it's hair, not everything needs to be a big project...

Ugliest?! That car looked better in the before then my car does after putting a couple thousand of dollars so far into cosmetics. New Edges are the best looking Mustangs right next to the Foxbody. The biggest problem stock though is the monster truck suspension.
You should buy a 4.6 or 5.4 4v and with a turbo it will make a lot of power that’s what the terminators had and they make a lot of power when tuned right
Every new edge mustang needs wheel spacers in the back if it’s not running a wide wheel. That should be upgrade number 4 lol

OEM - for cutting the springs and literally removing parts of the car when springs are dirt cheap.
