    While I like watching teens to early 30's sharing their skin care routine, I most certainly love watching women like Melissa share about hers as the results are clearly on her face. The wisdom is there. I watch and try to emulate as much as I can as I am already going 40. Thank you Melissa.

    When you called yourself " elderly" I about died!!! LOL!!! I loved this video...never a dull moment and so full of detailed information! I don't use makeup remover or toner, so I felt sort of cool when you said you skip that too! Without makeup Melissa you have this beautiful running in the wheat fields vintage Jane Eyre look...I love it....I think you are stunning...but I do disagree that you are " nobody". I work in dermatology and Melissa's skin looks great. Her regimen is wonderful. She has the most important parts of skincare. Antioxidant, EXFOLIANT, retina and skin lightener. You should use sunscreen on your face everyday of the year. My favorite is Elat MD UV Clear. It is the lightest one I have every used.

    • @Chelsea-jx1bi
      @Chelsea-jx1bi 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I've heard that sunscreen is recommended by dermatologists. I've been using La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra Light which works well but i want to see if the Elta MD one is better at keeping oiliness and shine at bay.

      Desiree R. foundation with SPF is not enough coverage for skin cancer prevention, and you need to apply sunscreen to all exposed parts of the body -- including neck, ears, chest, hands, etc.

      where I live in the summer even, I don't really wear the sunscreen in moisterizers unless I'm out in the sun near water for hours, because I always end up with a vit D deficiency, I don't wear shorts or cutoffs cuz of my age, so I don't get enough vit D because of this thing, my doc is the one that told me not to use moisterizer with vita or paba

    Melissa, OMG, you are amazing....seriously....you have no idea how your sweet videos impact others. And your videos have been very important and positive in my life. I thank you so much. From my vantage point, I don't have a woman to turn to "beauty-wise" (mother has passed on) and I consider you my beauty/lifestyle role model. Seriously. I am 51, and was curious if you could address - in this aging woman series - your position or your experience with Menopause. I have no idea about Menopause and I am educating myself and working with my doctor but I would LOVE and GREATLY APPRECIATE your experience and understanding about Menopause within this Aging Woman Series. Much love, Nancy

      Agreed on menopause discussion. I just turned 50 and I'm starting all these changes and have no living female relatives or age similar friends to talk to about it... It's hard not to feel discouraged when I feel like everything is so affected...how you sleep ( or more accurately DON'T) - only wanting to wear loose cotton t shirts since I'm hot ALL THE TIME, dental problems, coarser hair...the list goes on ☹️😓 would help to know what else to expect, how long it lasts, things that can help etc - for the first time I feel OLD and it's not the age number, it's the SYMPTOMS of aging!

      Thank you more than I can say, Nancy. Unfortunately, I really don't know anything about menopause. I had a hysterectomy when I was young and went on a low dose estrogen patch, which I still take. I did go through some mood changes at the time and still get an occasional hot flash, but the symptoms are under control. I think everyone down below has wonderful suggestions on looking at Dr. Barbie's videos! She's wonderful. Many thanks, Melissa

    Oh my goodness. Thank you so much. I am 61 and have never really cared for my skin. I just began to be concerned about aging and that old lady looking at me in the mirror, so I ordered some really expensive products, which did help some but not enough. I watched your video about two weeks ago, ordered the retina a and Obagi blender and began to try to imitate your skin care routine. Rough going at first because of the peeling. Today, I exfoliated and my skin is absolutely glowing. And that is after only one week!
    I know that I cannot reverse 60 years of being a California sun worshipper, but I am so pleased with the results so far. Thank you so much for sharing your secrets

    Hello. I have a suggestion. I use Obagi and retain A also and have for years.. Open your mind to this. When you mix retain a and blender. Blend it on top of your hand vs your palm of your hands. I don't have one age spot on top of my hands. I alternate hands... I just switched to Obagi new line Zo... I like it for a change but not as strong I feel. I enjoy your channel first time I posted

      That is a really great idea, Donna. I do use Glytone Glycolic acid on the backs of my hands after exfoliating them and I wonder if doing the Retin A and Blender would do too much. I have really good luck with the glycolic acid so far. But you are so smart! I like this and it you could even rub the backs of your hands together to get a bit on the opposite hand! Thank you so much, Donna! Much love, Melissa

    Melissa, you should try Asian sunscreens. They are alcohol based and so are non greasy. You can find them on Amazon. Biore watery sunscreen is a popular one. My skin in dry but these sunscreen have been amazing. No interference with makeup. A lot of them actually act like a primer.

    Melissa, you are so gorgeous and your skin is just AMAZING! Thank you so much for showing us what you do to keep your skin looking so good, it is very helpful! Quick question...did you use a moisturizer in the past? If you did, then when you stopped did you go through a period where your skin had to adjust? Another quick question...do you use an additional physical exfoliant like a scrub? I'm guessing you use the face cloth as your physical exfoliant but wanted to ask. You truly have gorgeous skin! Love you!

    • @Melissa55
      @Melissa55  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't use too much of a physical exfoliant because the Retin A plus hydroquinone is so strong, as well as the combo of the Vit C and the acid during the day. It really keeps things sloughed off and if I rub too hard, it gets irritated. aw thank you so much! Love you! M

    • @Melissa55
      @Melissa55  8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      aw thanks so much, Anne! I appreciate it. I have tried moisturizers off and on over the years but it really made my skin look older. In fact this week I bought some moisturizer and eye cream to test again and took pictures to show, but my skin sagged and looked so old that I didn't have the heart to post it. I mean my jowls hung! It was horrible. My skin would feel tight and dry adjusting, but I don't mind that. When it's tight, it looks so firm and I find my skin starts producing its own oil rather than depending on moisturizers for oil, if that makes sense. You have gorgeous skin. You always inspire me. Love you! Melissa

    • @BeautyByAnneMarie
      @BeautyByAnneMarie 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you for the info and I might try it and see how it works for me. If my skin could look as good as yours I would be happy. I think there is a natural skin care brand that also says to not moisturize, that your skin will start producing its own oils if you don't. Very interesting and I may give it a try! Thank you again! Love you!

    This was just great, Melissa. Thank you for sharing your secrets. You are always delightful to look at and to listen to.
    I am 55 and have reduced the number of products i use too, and my skin looks and feels better, plus it's a time saver.
    I, too, feel like it's okay to spend more on quality products that are proven to work, especially since, like you, there's so much I'm not doing (like the botox, fillers, etc).
    I have no gluten sensitivity, so I use the Timeless Vitamin CE Ferulic in the am and Retinol in the pm. I also use a (Paula's Choice) glycolic acid at night and sometimes in the am.
    I use a pycnogenol/hyaluronic acid serum from Elysée called Firmance. Its a great antioxidant, too. This one I use on alternating mornings instead of the CEF serum. It absorbs fast like water, no sticky feel.
    I feel the same as you about sunscreen. I avoid the sun; I really love cool and even cold weather, too. I count on my CC cream with SPF 30 for everyday. BUT if I know I'm going to be outside in the sun for an event, I do reluctantly use a sunscreen. A couple I can stand are Loreal Silky Sheer 50+ and Cotz Flawless Complexion SPF 50 (blemish free, lightly tinted). But I just hate the feel of most.
    I don't wear moisturizers or face or eye creams either. It's just too much and feels heavy and greasy. It's all about serums for me. i like whatever I put on my skin to absorb quickly, and I don't want to feel like there's anything on it at all.
    A couple of months ago, I started derma-rolling, just one night a week. It really feels like I'm doing something great for my skin, as serums are supposed to penetrate more easily after. I actually feel a difference immediately after and the next day.
    Thank you for sharing your life with us, Melissa. I'm wishing you and dear Doug happiness and health.

    • @Melissa55

      What a great routine you have!!! And it is obviously working because you are gorgeous! I really like the sound of all the products you are using. And it's terrific that you know your skin so well and what works for you. You will always look young!
      I do have a derma roller, but I can't bring myself to use the darn thing! I look at it and start to put it on my lips (I'm going to try to see if it will plump up my lips more), but I can't put those needles on me. I think I'm going to have to get someone else to do it. I have a bit of a phobia about needles so I just don't know that I can.
      Thank you so much for your kind comment. I really appreciate it. Love, Melissa

      Well, my routine is very like yours. I think I'm going to try your retinol source, though, just for a change. I like the idea of mixing it with the blender, too. I have it in my shopping cart already. Still shopping.
      I had my dermaroller for weeks before I got up the nerve to use it. I watched several of BeautybyAnneMarie's videos on how to do it and finally got up the courage. It was painless and easy, as you do not press hard; it is just a slight prickly feeling, sorta tingly. There's no bleeding or anything remotely close. I got a short needle, whatever she recommended. (I'm going over my lips, too, hoping!) I hope you will give it a try. I promise you there's no pain.
      Thank you for the compliment. I'm not photogenic at all, so I took about 20 selfies, deleted all the rest, and pretend I never saw them! 😊
      I'm really looking forward to cooler weather. This has been the hottest, most humid summer I can remember in Virginia. I'm a frizzy mess! And my hair has thinned due to menopause and is more unruly than ever.
      Thank you again for all you do for us, Sherry

      ***** Yes, it's been the hottest, most humid summer I can remember in ages.
      You can do it. Just be gentle and take it easy. I really feel happy after I've done it and put my retinol on. I feel like it really helps. You can do as little or as much as you like.

I’m just amazed how beautiful your skin is and how young you look even your eyes shine i could have fallen of my seat when you said over 60 i imagine you shock everyone who doesn’t know you. Good morning, Melissa. I enjoyed every minute of this video. Doug is a trooper to film for you, with back problems. Loved seeing, and hearing exactly what you are using. When I was using Philosophy skin care, I tried using face cream at night, and my face would not have as much oil the next day. Your skin is simply perfect, and beautiful. If I see my routine is no longer giving me good results, I may try some of the things you are using. The only sunscreen I ever wear is in my CC+ cream, or powder. Love you, my friend....MaryEllen

      +Melissa55 In Greece Retin A is 3 euro. The only inexpensive thing you can buy in Greece. LOL! Your skin is amazing. I have been using retinA since I was young for cystic acne but did not realise that it was keeping my skin young. I always thought it was the acne and having oily skin. Still though at 57 I have quite a lot at the sides of my mouth now and have decided to get back to applying Retina A more regularly. I hope it's not to late as I only have been using it once a month the past 5 years.And do you think it might help firm up my jaw line? It's only sagging slightly.I have never used it under my eyes and it shows. Thank you so much. Generally I am so bored with this type of video but you are extremely sweet and down to earth that I have watched a least ten in one sitting. Wow, you look fantastic ...I'm a makeup artist/ cosmetologist and also work with clients on skin care...I'm thinking your skin is naturally oily and that's why you have no need for moisturizers ...and the exfoliation products are enough with the cream base in the retine... most likely the blender is providing a lite weight moisturizer...so a person such as myself with Dry skin needs to use a heavier oil base moisturizer......... it plumps dry skin up and doesn't make the skin droop at all..Just wanted to mention that for people with dry skin.......

      BTW, I'm about to turn 53. Women my age don't even approach me (that's not a complaint!).
      I gotta blame genetics, mostly raw veggies and playing drums at 5 hour gigs. I have more options cuz I can fit into younger bands.
      But, I need a good recovery day after the weekend. and long gone are the days of drinks and other things commonly provided at gigs.
      Oh, and filling my belly with water after every pee! Teehee!
      I read the article in the Huffington Post... that's how I found you. Wondering if some of your secrets might help me.
      I know that fully heterosexual guys are now wearing foundation and mascara, but i haven't felt the need for any of that (yet).

    Melissa, I love watching you and will be purchasing these products because you are an example of beauty in our golden years. You do not look your age in face, hair, and body! I recently viewed your video on how your have your hair colored, cut, and curl it. I loved that video and have ordered the shampoo because my hair has thinned very badly. I can not find that video now and wonder if you took it down or what happened to it? I am purchasing all the products you use to see if I can get a good result like you do. My hair is about the same length as yours and cut like yours for the most part. I wear my hair in pretty much the same manner, but have not tried the Velcro rollers after the curling iron. Please check to see what happened to that video. I would like to watch it again as I use my products and fix my hair. Thank you and keep bringing the great videos! You are so beautiful and youthful looking!!

    Melissa - I so thoroughly enjoyed you sharing your skin care routine! Us "more mature" gals need to stick together and offer some much-needed support for each other and these videos do just that. I've used Retin-a and Obagi Blender for about 15 years - no moisturizer, just daily sunscreen. And I mix up my own vitamin C serum. That's it! I bought some moisturizer and used it along with everything else for a bit and I had jowls like you wouldn't believe. I took a picture, but it was too bad to post. lol. But my mother had lots of wrinkling and sagging and used a lot of moisturizer, so I thought I would do the opposite. lol. Thank you so much for asking. Much love, Melissa. The problem is that Retin-A (or Tretinoin), basically melts away the top layer of your skin, which is the protective layer and is very important. The skin needs this protective layer. By stripping it off and thus leaving you with 'baby' skin, the damage will not only be irreversible, but it can lead to all kinds of health problems as this acid is absorbed into the body. Some long-term users have ended up having serious liver damage, for example. The skin becomes very much thinner over prolonged use because only the under layers are exposed and the top layer has been stripped off with acid. Although one may look younger, the damage to health and increased risk of skin cancer should also be considered. This is why, although I've considered it, I probably won't start down the Retin-A road. I'm 53 and quite happy with my skin. I use moisturisers and sun screen daily. I think once one starts with such chemicals, it needs to be continued.

    • @karinvanrooijen1113
      @karinvanrooijen1113 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Tretinoin cream (Retin-A) stimulates the production of collagen and thickens skin. It does not thin skin. It does give skin a rosy glow because it stimulates tiny new blood vessels to grow but they are not visible on the skin. If, however, someone has rosacea and spider veins, tretinoin cream may be too harsh and can cause irritation with more reddening of the skin.

      not true i used retin a for a few years then stopped and i just started again.I love it and I look younger than people several years younger than myself. You can use it every night or once a week or twice a week or 3 times a week .... youll still get some benefit. Do whats best for you. But retin a is truly a miracle product. and only one of a handful with proven results.

I am still searching for the perfect combination of products. You are just so knowledgable about, well, everything 👏🏻👏🏻😌😌 God bless you and have a marvelous week my friend

      Thank you so much, Dianne. And it's really hard to find what works right for you. It's one of the most important skin care tips there is, I think. Much love, Melissa

    Thank you Melissa for such an informative video. You are gorgeous. I look forward to your aging woman series. I could relate to everything that you said during your intro, especially about needing a new roof. Lol. No one drives by your house and says isn't that roof just beautiful. Love ya MA.

      aw, love you so much MA!!! I swear so many of us are in the same boat. And no they don't say look at the lovely roof. I hate having to buy things you can't see. I really would like a big wraparound porch put on the house but the darn roof comes first! Love you! Missy

    This is helpful. You are genetically blessed, plus take great care of your skin , positive outlook, and you are thin, all things that make a difference. You look MUCH younger. An inspiration.

    You are absolutely beautiful. I'm 56 years old and try to take care of my skin although it doesn't glow like yours does. Thank you so much for having this channel. It's great having someone who isn't a teenager or early 20's, 30's showing how they take care of wrinkles! :)

    I cannot believe how old you are! Seriously! You look amazing. You are a natural beauty for sure. I'm so glad you said you don't use moisturizer, neither do I. I always felt it made my skin so that it doesn't breath. That my make up is slipping off. The products you use are expensive however if you you used quality day and night moisturizers you would probably spend more. This all works for you and it certainly shows. Thanks so much for your informative video. Looking forward to more.

      Oh thank you so very much, Jane! It just really weighs down my skin and makes is sag. I do try to not use too much of it so it lasts. I can't thank you enough for your kind comment. I really appreciate it. Much love Melissa
