Yup, if you look different in ANY way in a Hispanic family expect to be picked on lol. Although prieta fea is pretty harsh. And dark skin was always desirable in my family. So I’d be called gringa bc I was lighter, and chicken legs bc I was skinny.

Approximately a month or so ago, I opted to rewatch Desperate Housewives. It's amazing how many of the episodes I remember. Hearing that she was deemed the 'ugly duckling' of the family is absurd. Watching her as Gabrielle Solis must've been somewhat freeing.

Wow Eva is gorgeous without the makeup too! I am also latina and the only mom at my kids school who wears full make up every day. But I have acne scars and disappearing eyebrows, lol. Back to Eva- I’m loving that she’s a director. And so happy to hear that she doesn’t let the typical racism in a Latine family get to her! Often our elders (especially) are obsessed with the the light skin blue eyes preference. I hope the BLM movement is helping this process for us.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, I used to see Eva while she was attending Cal State Northridge. I was working on my undergrad and she used to walk over to the cafeteria. She was the kindest to the guys working behind the counter and in the kitchen. She was talkative and friendly. It sounds so simple but its not common, especially in a place like the LA area.
