  • Just providing an update to everyone that has been following along. I will just accept the fact that the regens have increased and are currently not having a negative affect on my fuel mileage. I went from 400+ miles in between regens to averaging about 200. My mileage / mpg is sitting at 22-24 so I cannot really complain.

    My 23 AT4 LZO was at the dealer last Monday and Tuesday for the frequent Regen issue. They had no idea as everything checked out. They opened up an incident report with GM, was told GM engineers have never heard of this issue but are looking into the open ticket. I told them to search TH-cam and message boards that the issue is common. I picked up the truck instead of letting it sit at the dealer while they figure it out. They are getting back with me this week to find out what the GM engineers say.

    So, I normally don't post on the TH-cam chats but I wanted to comment on this once since I've been following your videos regarding the frequent regens and wanted to contribute. Your channel is one of the reasons I got my Banks iDash and it has great content for the LM2/LZ0. Having the iDash has allowed me to plan my trips and complete full regens without shutting the truck down mid-cycle. I got my 23' LZ0 AT4 in December of 2022. At that time, I didn't have the iDash yet, so aside from being able to smell it (when it was new) I don't know exactly how far between regens I got my first winter. With all that being said, I added the iDash in June 2022. With the iDash monitoring, I saw I was only getting ~125 miles between regens and some were only 100 miles. What’s really interesting is that once the winter time rolled around I was getting 350+ miles between regens. Now that the warmer, more humid weather is back, my distance between regens has been steadily dropping back down to ~125 miles. I just completed a regen this morning and only got about 130 miles. I use Trip 1 on the truck for distance on a tank of fuel and Trip 2 I reset every regen even though I also have the iDash to show average distance and time between the regen. It doesn’t seem to matter if I run an additive or not. I also only ever run either Shell diesel or Irving and that also doesn’t seem to impact the regen distance. My truck is stock and fuel mileage is about the same as others with an AT4 or ZR2. (21-22mpg city, and 27-28mpg on the highway) I also have not really had any codes, fingers crossed, except for (2) P2C7A codes this winter which I attributed to more idling due to the cold weather and de-icing. I've also had a Snap-On scanner connected to my truck recently and nothing was out of the ordinary. I can’t really explain it but the truck seems to like the cold weather better. Sorry for the long post, but maybe this helps.

    For what it's worth, my LM2 started having more frequent regens (every 200 vs every 400-450 before) after changing the air filter with a GM replacement and following the factory air filter life reset procedure. A few regens later, I cleaned the MAF sensor with CRC cleaner and it seems like things are back to normal.

    Give this a shot, my friend: opt for stock AEM dry flow air filter. Add Hot Shot with every diesel refill and adjust Pedal Monster to city level 5. Equip a transmission bypass block from PPE, and you're good to go. Rege will decrease to 250-350 every diesel refills. I've also integrated VSE's oil catch. With these tweaks, the vehicle runs smoothly, achieving 38 mpg at 25-mile speed setting, 34.7 at 50, and 27.9 at 450 miles. These minor enhancements ensure optimal performance.

      stock I had 400-450 miles in between regens and with the few parts I added, I had 400-450 mile regens. Recently the regens started coming along at 100- 200 mile intervals. I'm currently at 200-300 mile intervals. I believe my dash numbers may actually be above yours, I know at least the 450 one is. But those dash numbers realistically mean nothing. Fuel mileage is what one actually gets hand calculating at the end of the tank, thats 22-23 for me in the ZR2. You have a great setup, it's working well !

    I only ever saw 1 regen around the 300+ mile mark, that was when i first installed the I dash. i think timing was coincidental that after install regen distance went down to the mid 1's to mid 2's. Not a big difference from winter to summer diesel that i saw. What seems weird is that driving around in-town seems to load the DPF slower than highway.

    I just passed 12k miles with my '23 LZ0 I picked up last fall, I have noticed increased oil consumption and regens as well. I do have iDash with logging, I should log my next trip, but it is pretty disappointing and the oil temps really do concern me as well. Getting 238º - 241º F on the interstate and not towing.

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oil temps are fine, these are designed for fuel economy and low emissions, they need higher temps. We have seen no signs of oil breaking down due to the heat, keep it clean and fresh and the temps are a non-issue. Even towing, they stay in check .

    Is anyone else having an issue where some of the Regen PID's on their iDash randomly drop off line (no data, just dashed lines). Every so often, maybe 4 or 5 times in the last 5k miles, DPF RG%, DPF SL%, and DPFDIS will stop being reported. Driving a bit more or restarting the engine brings them back online. One time that it happened, I also got a CEL (P2297).
    To add to the regen conversation, I've been averaging 160 miles between regens. This was almost entirely short distance city driving (23 - 24 mpg). Recently, I did back to back 700 mile highway runs at 65 - 75, with 29 - 30 mpg and 290 miles between regens.

    What i found out with my lzo is that everytime i added anything aftermarket like intake or resonator delete ex, it would regen quite frequently, and fuel mileage would drop significantly. These trucks don’t like aftermarket crap. Put everything back to stock and everything fixed itself. But regens were still too frequent for my liking, i switched to amsoil and now my regens are like you said about every 350-400 miles, my lasts regen happened yesterday according to banks idash it was 345 miles. Im telling you try amsoil you'll be very surprised with outcome

    • @DemonWorks

      This being my 5th 3.0 duramax, 2nd LZ0, I am not on board with the "mods" since my numbers on both trucks with the same mods showing 400+ mile regens. I know amsoil is a good oil, but the list of things that people say it does is incredible. Longer oil change intervals, quieter engine, better mpg, fixes oil consumption and longer regen intervals. I have run amsoil, it's a good oil, it's just not all that. I appreciate the comment, I do not think the change in regens is due to engine oil, however.

Each year, gm programs in for greater DEF consumption to meet NOX requirements.

I would not be surprised if the quality of current production is low. The regions have slightly different blends and additive packages for temperature, elevation, etc. I'm in the Chicago area and haven't noticed a difference, but I also have an LM2, not LZ0. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know, just a guess.

      Solid guess, I too believe it was a fuel change of some sort. I do know we went from winterized to #2, maybe this initial batch is "dirty" who knows.

    MPG doesn't matter when it's guzzling DEF @ $4 per gallon. There is SOMETHING wrong regardless of whether or not you're seeing a CEL. THAT IS excessive consumption. My 2020 goes through about a tank every 5k miles. THAT is "normal".

      What’s my def consumption at? I’ve shown in this channel the differences in def consumption over the years of the 3.0, the 2020 ln2 will use the least amount of def. That doesn’t mean each year after is a problem, just means that the emissions requirements go up each year and gm programs them to use more def.

    Wonder if it’s pump diesel that has changed and not the truck. This seems to be a widespread issue now
    Has anyone check Air to fuel ratios and learning? Poor quality fuel from distributors along with stricter government regulations on emissions could be causing some weird combustion knock and ignition/injector timing being retarded which would result in less fuel combustion and a richer Air to fuel ratio. This could be fouling the DPF faster resulting in increased regens

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree that it’s likely the pump diesel. I mentioned that in video #2. I’ve also been watching the air fuel with the banks iDash. It’s not as easy to compare like a gas engine would.

They should go back to the drawing board or the government needs to get out of manufacturing and let these car manufacturers do what they need to to make a reliable vehicle

    Just to show how uninformed I am, I had no idea regens occurred so often. I don't own any of these diesels, so I have no experience with them, but I had thought for some reason that when all of this started that one should be able to expect to go thousands of miles (like 5,000 or even 10,000) between regen cycles. Are even the best of tunes this dirty, are these diesel engines absolutely filthy nasty?? For one, I would think that if DPF's become more frequent it might indicate less efficient regen cycles as the DPF ages. I'm not sure how the 3.0 Duramax fuels a regen, but hopefully it's with a 7th injector. Add a DPF and restrict exhaust flow, perform frequent regen cycles regularly requiring additional fuel and you're taking away from the fuel mileage; diesel has already gotten to be expensive compared to the years gone by (ULSD) and you also have the added expense of DEF for operating costs, along with the extra costs of the diesel option up-front. I'm just wondering how long it takes to break even when going with the Duramax over a gas --- and I know that it all depends on what you use the truck for and how often you haul, how heavy you haul, how fast you drive, hwy vs city, etc. etc. etc. This also doesn't count in the 200,000 mile oil pump belt replacement. Please tell me again why I did want a truck with the LZ0?
