- I drained my VSE catch can for the first time. I honestly expected a lot more but in all reality, this just means my engine is performing very well without any crazy blow-by, right ?!

The catch can is a great idea but the way you have to drain it needs to be redesigned.
Mine has finally shipped!!! I just got the email that it’s due for delivery on Wednesday! Only two months behind schedule, but I’m excited for it to finally arrive! Only about 3800 miles on my engine so everything shouldn’t be too messy yet.
I pre ordered also and waited so I texted them and they shipped it that day, so you have to remind them
What number you use to get ahold of them? I'm in the same boat. Pre ordered and nothing still
Glad to see it’s working. Still waiting on mine… not really sure why I pre ordered at this point.
Hopefully it ships soon!
Do you have a recommendation or source of where to get the GM maintenance instructions for working on these trucks? More specifically like how to remove install a front bumper & grill as an example, so that when working on the vehicle there wont be inadvertent breaking of clips/brackets.
Yeah I hope the L5P is easier the 3.0 is very close not easy at all
I put mine in my 21 AT4 about 1500 miles ago along with a fresh oil change ( mobile dexosD & PPE Filter) then Immediately drove 1500 miles. Knock on wood but the service emissions system 165 miles until derate which has been nagging me for months and I have thus far gotten around by clearing a few times with my banks I-dash has not come back. Think we are on to something?
That should prove interesting to see if there are more vapours ( oil or water ) that accumulate while towing in similar weather/humidity conditions. Now come winter, that I suspect will fill a lot quicker with water due to the engine taking longer to get up to operating temperature. Through all this testing it should prove how well ( or not ) the GM system is at retaining the oil in the engine from ever reaching the intake tract.
When I had a can, it would fill up in under a week of bitterly cold WI weather. It was actually a problem because it would ice up and pressurize the crankcase if I didn't thaw it out and drain it every five or six days.
@@hochhaul I've heard that is the common theme with catch cans and cold weather, they just don't play nice together unfortunately and if not right on top of it draining it out ( when its not frozen ), its going to cause damage due to the engine not being able to get rid of its crankcase pressure.
Are you using the stock air filter with the stock air box?
The marketing and experiences of some people make it sound like these are a must have. But my LM2 with somewhere between 25-30k miles has never and any obvious oil loss between oil changes. Not sure this product is worth my money if it may only collect a drop over the course of an OCI (5000+ miles for me, whenever it's at 10-15% on DIC).
Valid! I try to bring real life info to the channel so people can make the decision for themselves if a product will serve their needs.
Sweet video! My truck needs a new radiator and the dealership has no idea when they will get one. Does PPE make a radiator for the LM2. At least they gave me a LZO to drive. There are a few differences I notice.
ugh ! that sucks, those radiators have been on backorder for a while. They seem to ship out every few months.... What are your impressions on the LM2 vs LZ0?
@@DemonWorks A few months? That's not good. I've put 2k miles on this 24 sierra elevation loaner in 3 weeks. The power and fuel economy seem the same. The transmission runs at about 194° where my truck runs at 180°. The trip meters are different. Round trip to work is 9.3 mi on my 22 refresh sierra elevation with 57k miles and this truck says 8.9 mi. My truck would win in a race because I have a pedal monster. Best $300 I ever spent.
Man let's say 1 drop every 100 that shit burns before it even gets in lmao 🤣
Agreed. Not sure it’s needed.
@@BC_Hunterdefinitely not needed
@@donmckenzie5027 you’ve obviously never seen the inside of the charge air cooler after 5k miles. A catch can is def needed on these engines.
I have the same catch can on my 2022 lm2 and I have to drain it every 500miles. Completely full. Must be something wrong with my truck.
@@Gameplayer70 With all due respect if it was needed GMC would put it on the truck lol
waiting for the l5p catch can to release. was told may something? hopefully not in such a tight spot on the 2500hd!
Theres more room on the 2500, so I hope so too !
Nothing to do with catch can but did you install a PPE transmission bypass valve on this truck
not yet.
What's the crankshaft for on the toolbox?
I was going to install that camshaft in a ZL1 1LE I had a few years ago. I ended up selling the car and now I want to get rid of the parts I accumulated.
I wonder if you have more in there. Did VSE state no air lock would happen when installed? It may not be an issue with the design; I was just thinking it might get air locked since there's not a vent on top. Just a thought. 🤷♂️
That’s a good thought ! I don’t think there’s an air lock issue but anything is possible. I also did not see anything in the sight glass so I don’t think there was much in there.
@@DemonWorks cool... well hopefully there's not. Love to see what's next for you and your truck!
next time you drain it check the return line to see if the oil is bypassing the catch can
I like your thinking! I have a big road trip coming up in a few weeks, we should be able to see more after that and I will pull the hose like you suggested, great idea.
I ordered one back in April, still waiting on delivery. Kind of annoying.
Have any of the mods you've placed on the engine voided the warranty yet? I've been following you for a while now, so I figured I'd ask since we're getting ready to order an LZ0 Tahoe
Does the '24 Tahoe have the LZ0?
@@ralphjessee2688 2025 model is swapping from LM2
My parts have not created issues to cause a warranty issue. From the factory, my engine leaks more oil than it consumes, based on how much came out of this catch can.
correct on the 2025 SUV's getting the LZ0 engine, up to 24, they all still had the LM2
Maybe that's why you didn't get much in your CC, because you're blowing it out (relieving crank case pressure) before it gets to the catch can. 😂
Showing how little bit the can catches. You could use a much smaller product to drain the catch can into. Which would make this easier.
I agree, however, this was my first time draining mine and others have shown quite a bit coming out.
@@DemonWorks yep. Also. All your videos pushed me to get a diesel. Just have to use some of your knowledge to maintain it. Bought a 2024 gmc sierra at4 with the 3.0 Duramax. So far I love it. Just went past the 1k point. 499k to go!
Did you ever figure out why your truck regens frequently? My truck does a regen every 7 to 800 miles.
no, but I posted an update video: th-cam.com/video/wX0xr7Ud_Lc/w-d-xo.html
Does putting a catch can on void the warranty?
I saw something somewhere were it said it did not void the warranty. It might have been on the VSE website.
it could. it would need to cause whatever issue you are wanting warrantied.
I went to web site tried to call but that didn’t work so they have email address so I used tha
Thats like 5 ounces, right? 😂 Do you think your last truck would have caught more? Isnt the high country the one that had a bunch in the intercooler?
yeah, the high country had a lot in there !
The install definitely takes some cussing and tiny hands to get under the cowling. Lots of cussing on my install.
Stop wasting money on catch can, the turbo suck all the oil and the engine burn it. Just vent the crankcase fume into the atmosphere
What do you do about the check engine light?
Exactly my thoughts ! If these catch cans were so needed gmc would put them on the truck or offer as an option in my opinion. I’m no mechanic though so not saying I’m right.
My lm2 got a lot of blow by. I wonder lz0 is the same
