I had a similar dealership experience with my Tacoma 4x4. It had vibration at certain speed. Dealer said, they all do that. On the flip side. Warehouse managers jeep grand cherokee kept throwing all kinds of codes after stalling in traffic. He took it to Elk Grove Dodge and Jeep twice. It died the first time ten minutes after he got it back. I looked on internet and found several videos on a common ecm connectivity issue. He took it back to Elk Grove Jeep and told them what to fix. The service guy said they had to send it out to get the crap connections re-soldered. He had already shot the parts cannon at the POS. Never went back to Elk Grove Jeep again. Just did the first oil change on my LM2 2023 Suburban. 1500 miles on it. Usually change the oil on a new engine at 1000 to 1500 miles just for piece of mind. Oil on the dip stick did not appear to move from when I purchased it with 20 miles on it. DEF is still 3/4 full. Was a little nervous purchasing my first GM product from owning Toyotas all my life but so far, the family loved the Suburban. 30mpg highway is pretty amazing as well.
Thats good. Fyi they do add an extra quart in the duramax for the break in. If you look it up you can get a better explanation on why they do it. The LZ0 is a better motor for sure.

Thanks for your video, kyle. Your video got me looking at my 3.0. Sure enough, I fell into this TSB, and my local dealer is getting it fixed. Great video, thank you for your info. They changed the #2 glow plug a few months ago but never looked further into it and I brought it to their attention after watching your video.
Thanks for the 8675309, glad you were able to fix that issue. Now only 44,000 more miles and you should delete and tune it. More performance and longevity
I have a 2024 3.0 and burn oil like crazy. Crickets at the dealer. I wonder if they haven't fixed the issue. I didn't see 2024 on the service bulletin. You just have a new subscriber!
Thanks guys, this will No doubt help a bunch of folks with similar issues. And reminds me of the old adage to always avoid the first year of a new engine/vehicle so they can work out the bugs.
Thanks a ton for the video a ton!!!! To give you some background on my issue. I have a 2020 3.0 duramax just like you. I bought 40 acres last fall 1.5 hrs away from home and go there every weekend to work on the property. I also put 100 miles a day on my truck go to work and back. I have 74k on it now and have loved it. It tows my 6000 lb trailer fine and also my 6 seater SXS. A month ago I was 2 miles from home it went into reduced engine power and the code was the one you mentioned. After pulling the code I realized it was oil related. I pulled the dipstick and no oil was visible. I went to Autozone and got 2 quarts of oil and put it in. No oil was still visible. I was now very concerned of a major issue. Went and got 2 more quarts and finally it was in the hash marks. I was close to an oil change and was making a 3hr trip north with the camper so I went an got an oil change. I verified that the oil was full the next morning and it was slightly over the hash marks 👍. Made the trip and no issues and the following weekend I was going to my property with the SXS and decided to check the pil before the trip. It was in the lower ¼ hash marks on the dipstick 😢. I went up north and check oil the next morning and it was under the hash marks 😡. I searched oil google and come across this video!! Called the dealer and explained this issues and the series of events above. Give the dealer the APB number along with pictures from the scanner and dipstick etc. Today I took it in at 8am and they just called me and said this was exactly my issue and a 14hr repair in now in process's once they get the parts! Glad because my warranty expires in late January. Looking forward to no oil loss... Thanks a ton again!!!
@@SpicerDesignsLLC just glad it's being fixed because I love the truck and the 3.0 Duramax. Mainly the fuel mileage. My best was 34.4mpg and average around 27-28mpg most of the time.
Hey Tim, why would my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT 3.0 consuming oil like this ... glad you got it worked out. Luckily, the dealership here seems to be pretty awesome in taking care of me. If dealerships knew how important that Is to future buisness...man.
I have a 22 LM2. I have done a couple of trips towing around 7000lbs, between 1200-1500 miles then empty on the return. Both times the truck has used oil, more than a quart, but the dealer says within spec. Also no glow plug issues but only 18,000 miles(27,000kms because I’m Canadian). I’ll be checking the numbers. Thanks so much for sharing this information!!
Awesome video, i have a 21 Serria Elevation with X-31, towing my race car trailer, i was using about 1/2 quart of oil or more, it also used a lot of DEF while towing, had a slight rear main seal leak that was just fixed under warranty, but my VC is date coded 29283! Just called the dealer to have mine replaced! Thank You!
Go TIM and his TEAM. Enjoy your channel and glad you took the time to make this video and hopefully help out those folks that have the same issue. KUDOS
That's great info. GMC/Chev has had their share of problems with the oil consumption issue on various engines. You're very lucky Tim came along and helped you get to the bottom of it. Guys like that are a dying breed which is very unfortunate. I'm sure this will help someone else and you might be surprised that this video ends up with very high views over the years from people searching for answers to the oil consumption problem. I'm glad you got it resolved. Dave
Good video information! I’m a diesel mechanic myself and work on big rigs. Burning oil is bad but it’s even worse when you have emissions on diesels. Oil does not burn out of dpfs through a regen. Hoping it does not shorten the life of the dpf for you. And if it does hope it’ll be under warranty! If not delete time lol
I'm looking into buying a 2023 chev 3.0 duramax with 24tho miles and looking up reviews and run across your video. Glad I found your concerns that is interesting, beings newer truck hopefully taken care of. I have 2014 duramax with 227tho miles with absolutely no problems over the years, when I modified at 100tho miles it brought a whole new life to it. I love my truck and hopefully the 2023 will do well for me.
Honestly, I was expecting something worse. Kudos to Tim. Every dealership should have a service manager like him. Sadly that's not the case. I would be interested in a post-fix video with oil and DEF consumption report after some towing if you get the chance. I would also accept "It's fixed.. moving on" 🤣 My truck is a bit newer comparing to your VIN. Mine was built in July 2020. I haven't looked, but I don't doubt my valve cover is in the "bad" range too. But I also don't have the oil consumption nor have I had any glow plug issues. In fact I've never had a code come up. So there would be zero chance of having mine replaced. Because it's not "bad" until all conditions are met. I actually read that TSB a number of months ago. Consider yourself lucky that you had the bad #2 glow plug with a code set. Without it, you'd get the typical runaround of the oil consumption being "within normal spec". I mean I can understand why. A typical dealer doesn't want to spend the time to diag and pull out the parts cannon. GM simply doesn't allow/pay for it, especially for warranty work. Ironically I went through exactly this same scenario with my old 5.3 Silverado that was consuming oil because of a bad valve cover. Some things never change.
Thanks for sharing. I will definitely have an update with a final answer on the oil and def consumption. Ill be doing some towing in the next month or two.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC FYI, I got a letter in the mail the other day from GM. It says my 2020 3.0 "may have a condition that could cause the engine's cylinder 2 glow plug to fail... MIL will illuminate" and to not take it into the dealer for this issue unless this DTC is set. The letter says they're covering this issue 15 years from purchase date or 150k miles. They also included a reimbursement form stating that if you've paid out of pocket for this issue before receiving the notice, they'll cover all costs even if it was out of warranty. I almost have to wonder if Tim and others got this high enough up the GM chain. Something tells me the timing isn't a coincidence. Kudos again to Tim. And also GM for doing the right thing. And thank you so much for going through the details in this video. If mine eventually has this problem, I'm going to request they replace all of the glow plugs even if I have to pay for them, since as they found on yours it was more than just the #2.
@@3.0dmax i got that same letter. I know Tim did take it to his field engineer so it is very possible thats what this stemmed from. Ill have to ask him about that.

Sweet - glad that ended up being the issue after all! I posted that TSB # on your towing test video and glad to hear that you had Tim to help coordinate all the warranty work! From your previous video, it sounds like you could use the cab version of your Kymron excavator so maybe another towing test video is in store to go pick one up?! Gotta make sure the oil consumption is fixed, right??? 😂
I think i remember you posting that now that you say that. I appreciate the help. And yes, im been contemplating upgrading my larger machine to the cab version or the next larger model. Maybe this summer.
I am considering buying one of these, currently have a 15’ 2500. Appreciate the info, trying to do all the research I can, I’ve always have 2500s but don’t really “need” one. Tow a 6,700lb boat locally, and that’s about it anymore.

Tim, just wanted to say thank you. I'm getting scheduled now for my issue. Note my issue came up due to REGEN every 299 miles and one bad glow plug number 3.
Did your dealer replace your #3 glow plug? Also, what are they doing about your DPF? Replace it? Or manual regen? I have a similar issue to you, bad cam-shaft cover, #4 glow plug fault, not #2
@davidcrews6170 they ended up changing #2 again with the bulletin and 3 and 5 were bad as well. Im guessing the issue was getting worse and effecting other glow plugs
Good to see it fixed, I think 6.7 fords have a similar breather issue. Hopefully that burning oil doesn’t have a long term effect on your exhaust filter. Sounds pricey. Good video and the humor is always great !😂

They changed the #2 glow plug a few months ago but never looked further into it and I brought it to their attention after watching your video.
Thats great! Sounds like you have a good dealer.
Thanks for the 8675309, glad you were able to fix that issue. Now only 44,000 more miles and you should delete and tune it. More performance and longevity
I would be interested in that. Especially if the dpf is due. Id rather spend the money on the delete
I have a 2024 3.0 and burn oil like crazy. Crickets at the dealer. I wonder if they haven't fixed the issue. I didn't see 2024 on the service bulletin. You just have a new subscriber!
@@davidbruce5377 well that sucks to hear. I can say that i will not go back to the 3.0. I do have an update coming soon.
Great job on this video, well articulated sir.
Thanks Rod!
@@huntinsutton thats great they are going to take care of it for you.
No problem. Hopefully theres bo major issues. I know there is a normal oil consumption with these motors. Still doesnt seem right though.
Thank You!
20283!
Dave
Very true. Couldnt have done it without Tim. Hopefully it does help someone or many. That would be great.
N- As in Nipple, A- As in areola lol. That's worth a like in itself!!
This TSB on the valve cover housing issue for the LM2 has been a huge help to me. Thank You Man!
Great video and a special salute to that absolutely charming lady we saw too little of !
Thank you. She should be in the next couple videos. Shes always busy with the kids.
Way to go Tim! When you get service like that you tend to continue to do business with that dealer.
This is a super helpful video. Lots of videos on the oil issue but no one explained why until now.
Thats great. Hopefully it helps some people out.
I can say i will be going back to the 6.6 duramax. I dont have a lot of faith in the 3.0. Thats just my opinion.
Honestly, I was expecting something worse. Kudos to Tim. Every dealership should have a service manager like him. Sadly that's not the case. I would be interested in a post-fix video with oil and DEF consumption report after some towing if you get the chance. I would also accept "It's fixed.. moving on" 🤣
My truck is a bit newer comparing to your VIN.
That’s interesting man that’s a good video for folks and Tim Way to go man. Great job.
Well done video and many thanks to Tim! I wish GM would take note.
Thank you the information in this broadcast was great community benefit unfortunately manufacturers don't always go the extra mile and that's service writer that helped you he is a Prince
Service manager...I'm too old to turn wrenches anymore ...and I leave Service writing to the kids 😅
Good information, I’m considering trading my 2017 Silverado for one of these. Glad you did a follow-up to your first video showing the problems and your particular concerns.
Thanks for sharing this. I have a 2020. I’m not experiencing these problems but it’s great information to have incase I do later.
Thank you for the great information, I don't even own the LM2, but what amazing info for those who do and use excessive oil/DEF. Tim, if you are looking at this video, god bless you.
Thanks for the nice comment. Much appreciated
Thank you for your videos. I'm looking to replace my Ford F150 with a 2024 GMC Sierra 3.0 Duramax and I was concerned about the Oil Consumption issue. Now I feel at ease with that purchase.
Good luck with your purchase
Thank you so much for this video! I have had all kinds of problems with my 2021 Silverado with the LM2 engine. I shared this video with the techs at my dealership and they are going to replace the cam shaft cover on my truck.
No problem. Glad to hear they are going to take care of it for you.
Are they going to do it under warranty?
@@J810MFG i would personally stay away. They seem to be one issue after another but a lot of people have really good luck with them. Its all a crap shoot anymore with vehicles.
@@SpicerDesignsLLC I hear ya there! The other part of me wants to be done with all the new stuff, and get a square body! No computers! No DEF etc… probably just keep the one I’ve got. Paid for is tough to get rid of too.
I have a 2013 6.6 200K that doesn’t eat a teaspoon of oil. ZERO leaks (except my fuel, my fault) . I absolutely LOVE MY TRUCK! I also have mad respect for the Ford & Dodge trucks. I believe they all make a TOTAL BEAST.
Had same exact issue on the 2020 i had, would eat oil about the sane rate as yours. Had glow plug replaced and after it had electronic issues...I traded it in because it too 2 months for the last repair. You are 100% correct.
Tim, just wanted to say thank you. I'm getting scheduled now for my issue. Note my issue came up due to REGEN every 299 miles and one bad glow plug number 3.
Regen every 300 miles is an issue?
Did your dealer replace your #3 glow plug? Also, what are they doing about your DPF? Replace it? Or manual regen? I have a similar issue to you, bad cam-shaft cover, #4 glow plug fault, not #2
@davidcrews6170 they ended up changing #2 again with the bulletin and 3 and 5 were bad as well. Im guessing the issue was getting worse and effecting other glow plugs
Watched the video because I’m a Chevy truck guy. New subscriber because of the boob references. Well done.
Hah! Thanks for the sub Jim
That is awesome that your truck is fixed
Ya im pretty pumped about it
Thanks for sharing and big thanks to Tim for helping all of us out!!!!
"Tim for the Win" that's a t-shirt right there!
Good to see it fixed, I think 6.7 fords have a similar breather issue. Hopefully that burning oil doesn’t have a long term effect on your exhaust filter. Sounds pricey. Good video and the humor is always great !😂
Ya good point. I hope thats not the case
Awesome video, thanks, will be purchasing 2023+. since I will sending this truck oversea.
moral of story .......know a guy named Tim...........................great video
Keystone ..............you are one tough SOB, that stuff is radiator water
Hah! Tim is the man. Drinking a Keystone right now. Frosted mug. Freakin refreshing
Thanks for sharing, now i gotta go look at my number.
My number is lower as well.
Thanks Tim ,taking truck in tomorrow for this, how long did they have your truck for the repairs
Should be a whole day for a qualified technician 7-13 hours, depending on whether or not it needs extra glow plugs or stubborn bolts
Thanks for this, I have heard of this issue, I have a 2022 with a 3.0L diesel with no issues , but i'm sure there are some who do and can't get any satisfaction from their dealer.
I'm not a truck guy, but I love a good mystery🙂
Very interesting, kudo's to Tim and his team for helping get to the bottom of your problem.
Thanks for sharing.
Yea TIM! let’s all put him in for regional service manager! But what a great video! Now my questions, what normal commuting mileage do you see, highway mileage you see and towing mileage? Plus what does the lifetime mileage average on the driver information center say?
Great video. Glad the word is getting out to help others owners of these amazing engines. 💪😎
Great video and sounds like Tim actually cares. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent info, thanks for sharing! 🍻 Kudos to Tim! I think GM should hear about his above and beyond effort!
Thanks Chris! Tim saved me on this one.
I thought you were coming here for Easter. Not for dinner, but I’ve got another pole building to put up
Oh yaaa. I think i have a thing at that place that day.
Adam, you can't have Kyle all to yourself ! My wife said that your family is welcome to Easter dinner too
@@Tim4111 That Kyle, as slippery as a oil soaked injector..... WTG Tim, you're my hero
Dude!! Thank you for this video! The world is better thanks for videos that share good stuff like this. Much appreciated! Plus, it was funny when you mentioned “double DD” lol
Hello Kyle. Glad you were able to get it fixed. For as much as those trucks cost, it is bad to go through all that trouble.
I think I will still keep my 72 Chevy truck. Take Care. Clint
They dont make em like they used to right.
My 2020 Tundra makes a popping noise when you first turn then goes away. The dealership said it’s Normal. I’ve owed 3 of em it ain’t Normal🤦🏻♂️ Awesome vid btw
Thats a shame thats the kind of service you get when you pay that much for a vehicle
In absolutely in love with the tires on your truck 😍
Im really happy with them
Good outcome! My third 5.3 is great. But there are incentives on the ‘24 Babymax right now. Hmmm. Thanks. Confidence in the Bowtie restored.
Seriously! It doesn't matter what the subject is, you videos are always enjoyable!
Thanks John! Much appreciated
Glad you got it resolved because it’s a nice truck. Also good job sharing the info should help out others.☮️
Thank you. Hopefully it does help someone out.
Glad you got your truck repaired.
Thanks Bob!
@@SpicerDesignsLLC Keep up with the great videos.
Glad u got it figured out and was under warranty. Thank goodness for TH-cam not only can u learn something by watching a video but the viewers can also help out thanks Tim. (Ps should have bought a PowerStroke) 😂
The feedback from viewers is great. I learn a lot from the comments.
Tks for the vid. Good to know this stuff. Luckily I have the LZ0 but always good to know all issues just in case something similar happens on the redesign.
Mine only uses some oil when towing my 7500 lbs brick of an RV. Tks again.
And a very big Tks to your buddy Tim.
Thanks Hammer! It’s definitely good to know if an issue ever comes up.
Good video. Looks like it did well. 😂
