Flat head screw driver leveraged against oil pan and drain plug pulling down while simultaneously spinning plug with socket worked for me! Took 2 mins. Did not need vice grips :)

Were your threads on the oil pan still good after? Happened to me I'm buying a new screw hoping my threads on the pan are fine.

@@bodipyles in most cases they should be designed where the plugs use a less strong metal than the pan metal. So it should always be the plug

Thank you, thank you. Work perfectly. The top part of the drain plug didn't have any thread on it. I stopped by O'Reilly's and purchased a 12mm 1.50 plug and gasket, and it is back in operation.

Damn you just save me a 2000$ job, but it took me a good 30 min to figure it out. Put a new sump plug but i think that the treads are f***ed up because it still spinning with the new bolt but still doesnt leak

Hey thanks for the video, I just had the same situation.
So when you pull out the plug, did you do any replacement to the plug or the oil pan ?

Yes, get a new plug from local AutoZone.

@@macdaddypimpping Thanks a lot for the reply! I saw that you mentioned in description. You used a longer (1.75) plug to get the grip and locked the plug. I saw other video mentioned this too!

You will need to turn it and feel it where it catches the thread then pull down really hard and turn it a the same time.

@@matthewcramer7391 it does work but you need to be patience. It took me 30mins to get mine to come out.
I used vise grip to do half turn and pull down. Repeat this and when your tired switch to a flat head screw driver and socket. What I did was wedged the screw driver between the pan and bolt (don't force it), once wedged, get the socket on and try to turn and wedge the screw driver at the same time. Repeat a couple of time and then switch back to the vise. Once you feel a bit of bite from the bolt, that is progress.
Once you take the bolt out, do not put it back in as your threads are gone. You'll need to tap a new thread, new bolt and crush washer.
Remember to do a couple oil flushes to ensure any metal fillings aren't inside. Put new bolt on, pour oil and open nut to drain it out.
Note - Amazon has a new thread tap kit with 6 bolt and crush washers

I hate working on this foreign bs cheaply made but cost a fortune to repair. I'm working on the 2019 flavor and this harlequin is at a 37 degree angle. Do not buy these. They suck!!!
