  • In this video I show you how to fix your stripped M3 drain plug properly.
This will work on any M3 but the kit that Rogue Engineering developed is specifically for the E46 M3 and E9X M3.
Remember the E9X M3 has 2 oil drain plugs. You will need to do both!
This is a very easy repair if you have the right tools!
Keep in mind if you mess this up you will have to replace your oil pan entirely which from BMW can be more than $1,000

Just happened to my m3, kit is ordered! Is there a better way to flush the metal shavings out for better peace of mind?

Yes! Use a shit ton of carb cleaner / WD 40 and You have to do an oil change after 100 miles and you will be fine

@@zkramez will do, I’m also going to just flush oil through just to be clear. What do you think the best option for keeping the drill and tap straight as possible?

@@zkramez I got her done 👍 seems like it did the job with OEM finish! Idk why people would go with a helicoil or time sheet if they are going to drill anyways. I flushed about 5 quarts of clean oil to clean up anything and then filled it up, drove for about 35 miles and did a full oil change. I still found some metal pieces in the filter. Did you find any as well? Does it cause any damage to the engine?

@@hcynumber so far since I did it, I’ve done about 3 oil changes and driven 10k miles. So far so good haha

This the is the 'Proper way' but Sorry I have to make several observations.1. when drilling you need to keep the drill bit vertical all the time (you had it at an angle half the time, obviously no engineering background) 2. when tapping the new thread you shouldn't just keep continually turning clockwise but every 4/5 turn make a turn anti-clockwise. 3. Use some of the old oil to flush the swarf completely out, just spraying as you did can leave some inside.
