- New to firearms? Looking for a good first semi-automatic pistol?
This is my overview of Walther P22 semi-auto pistol chambered in .22LR. This is a great pistol for shooters of all skill levels and firearms experience. I especially believe this is a great first handgun for any new firearms owners since it covers all of the checkpoints of semi automatic handguns, is a blast to shoot, and is also configured for ambidextrous use.

You described the hammer safety wrong. Down is safe, horizontal is fire
Good catch. Pinned this. Thanks for watching!
Mine was made in 2010.
It will only shoot CCI mini mags.
Plus I needed to replace the recoil spring, with a captured one.
After 1000 rounds it’s become extremely reliable.
The P22 has a decocker.
Safety On.
Trigger Pull.
Voila! Those damn Germans.
It shoots more than CCI mini mags IF it's freshly cleaned and lubricated.
Gets better after a few hundred rounds.
Threaded barrel adapter is Thirty bucks.
Great 22
Very Nice!

Yes of course. You did very nice gun review.
I just went to the range to try the Walther P22CA I got a few weeks ago. I cleaned and oiled it before going. I was kind of wary of the issues with it not loading or not liking certain cartridges that are high velocity or below 1300fps. I was wrong... initially...It fired like a dream using Remington Thunderbolt 40g (green box - $42.99/500rnds) with 1255fps. Then I tried the Federal 40g (blue box - $74.99/800rnds) with 1200fps, and it also took that and no misfires or jamming. Next was the CCI Minimag 40g ($54/500rnds) with 1235fps and every round also went through with no problem.
But after firing 180 rounds switching through those 3 cartridges, the problem started but it was just with the Federal. The gun started not going into battery and I had several FTLs and misfires with that particular cartridge. I actually thought I had a squib a few times. The CCI and the Thunderbolt still shot great, still had no issues. I dont know if it was because the gun started getting dirty, but why just the Federal and why after firing great initially, I wondered.
I just bought an Aguila 38g ($41.99/500rnds) with 1280fps cartridges that I will try next. In the meantime, I guess I will feed the Federal to my Savage 64 and Citadel Trakr.
Yea prob started getting leaded up and needed some cleaning. Best of luck let me know how it goes. Thanks for watching!
@@ScottyLovesChips I was leaning towards that at first but the P22 still kept shooting the other 2 brands with no issues even after the issues with Federal started.
Dragon energy!
Thanks for watching!
Great video bro.
Are the recoil springs for the old and new Walther P22 interchangeable?
Not really sure, never had to do that. I would say if the length and number of coils are equivalent then why not? I know that another user suggested on my quick takedown video that there is a 3rd party captured recoil spring upgrade that is totally worth it. Thanks for watching, my dude!
Can you do one more mag release please?
Have it in a 5” barrel love it, I’d like to know what ammo is best I have rem. Thunderbolts, cci stingers and blazers, being 5” I’m guessing stingers will be cranking serious velocity out of it
Yea, my best guess would be anything with a plated projectile and mid/high velocity. Thanks for watching!
Nice. I'm debating which should be a hideout pistol with my primary pistol (which is a 9mm)? This Walther P22 or a Bersa Firestorm? I'm in California and I am a new shooter. My favorite gun is also the Springfield XD 9.
Personally, I like wheel guns for hideouts, 22s for training only. But that's just me. Thanks for watching!
@@ScottyLovesChips Oh ok noted. I may consider the “Lady” Charter Arms.
Have you used any cci ar tactical in it ? Just curious because I have trouble finding mini mags
I haven't personally but I think they would perform similar to the golden bullet as they are copper coated heads and approx. the same velocity. Thanks for watching!
What ammo works best in the walther?
Anything higher velocity is "better" or without a lead head will keep it cleaner. I did have good luck with federal bulk though.
Any jamming problems?
Yea, I did have some issues with higher velocity ammo and my batch of Thunderbolt (same issue I had with the Ruger Wrangler). I recorded a video on this range trip and will be releasing it this weekend. Thanks for watching!
@@ScottyLovesChips I never ever had any problems using Thunderbolts .22lr ammo with my Walther PPQ M2. Not once. Perhaps you got a bad batch of ammo. Happens sometimes.
@@peterlenhardt881 That's what I'm thinking, I have issues in my Wrangler too with Thunderbolt, different box but same case. At least it will work in my bolt action! lol
@@peterlenhardt881 This video is for the p22. Not the ppq m2.
The Walther P22 has recalls relating to failures to extract, as well as magazine issues. Buy a Ruger.
Interesting... I'll have to research that. Thanks for watching!
@@ScottyLovesChips Just look up Walther P22 failure to fire, failure to extract on "Screw Tube"
@@ScottyLovesChips I used to shoot small bore pistol, as well as rifle on the York Riflemen team. I've owned all manner of brands, Remington's, High Standard's, Winchesters, Ruger's, Colts, Smith & Wesson's,Taurus, and some European brands as well. Ruger, and my High Standards, being my principal pistols. I do own a S&W model 41. My brother bought the Walther P22, and it's a boat anchor in my humble opinion. It's at the S&W factory for those 2 issues I've mentioned. Regards from York, Pennsylvania.
Funny, I was originally trying to get an Mk.2. and ended up with the Walther P22. Maybe another day. Thanks for checking out the channel!
I believe there were issues with the original release. The Q update seems to have resolved the issues.
This gun sucks
