  • The venerable Walther P99 is being retired at 26 years of service, and Walther is paying tribute with a "Final Edition'" of the pistol. The Final Edition P99 is a generation 3 P99 with the Anti-stress trigger, and an OD green grip frame reminiscent of the original 1st generation P99. These will be available for a limited time with a commemorative case and medallion, and then... never again...

      Unfortunately, the P99 was up against a bunch of nostalgic fans who demand Bond only carry a long outdated .380 pistol. The best compromise would be an updated Walther P5.

    Cool little send-off. The P99 definitely slid under the radar for a lot of people (excluding the occasional movie appearance). Shame too as it was a pretty damn solid handgun. The PPQ and the subsequent PDP are just the offspring of that classic design. I don't collect guns for fun, or I'd snag one of these just to have a little piece of history.

      The PPQ is the dumbed-down version of the P99. My fellow Americans won't buy a pistol unless it has a stupid lever in the trigger, and a button-style mag release.

      Yeah, having just moved on from a PPS M2, I was assuming this "year" would be the Walther competitor finally - one of the few markets they're woefully behind/outclassed in. They tend to do one "big" gun launch per year, so I was expecting a new micro-mini-skinny to compete with the rest of the market. Weird too...since the original PPS was a slim-stack 9mm concealed gun long before the craze kicked off.

      @@DWN22 The point of a single-stack pistol is supposed to be concealability. The PPS isn't any thinner than the P365, has a longer slide, and holds considerably fewer rounds in the same grip/magazine length as the P365 (6 vs. 10, 7 vs. 12)(+1). I quit carrying my PPS before the P365 was released, because it's too big to pocket carry, yet too low capacity to be competitive for IWB carry.

    I may get one. I'll save up for it and get one once it's out. Assuming I can find one. I've been meaning to get a Walther so no better time than with this one.

    The last great gun that Walther made. I'd love to buy a PDP too but I never will until they release a version with a paddle mag release.

      Wow. So you don't think that the PPQ, which was the direct descendant, was a good gun?

    • @anomaly864
      @anomaly864 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jayjuggrnaut It was a good gun, but not a great gun. I thought about buying one and I rented it at my local range but the weird lumps on the side of the grip made it feel awkward in my hand. That's probably my biggest issue with it.
      Also compared to the HK VP9, the grip is significantly better, trigger is better, is softer shooting and I was more accurate with it. It also had a paddle mag release so it was a no brainer to go with the VP9 instead.

    If I see one, I’m buying it because I’ve wanted one for a long time. I thought the Walther P99 full-size was dead a long time ago, like at least 8 or 9 years dead. I couldn’t find one anywhere, and Walther didn’t list the gun on their website.

      It kinda was dead. They only produced them in Germany and only imported them on rare occasion. I managed to pick up a new production from like 2020 for 600. Love it.
