Actually, both guns you showed on the table were P22Q. P22 came out in 2001/2002, and the Q model was released in 2011. Externally, the difference between original P22 and the Q model are grip texture, slide serrations went from half height to full height, 3-slot rail instead of one-slot, and the deletion of the internal lock on the right side of the frame. In other words, P22Q was made to look like the then hot selling PPQ, hence the "Q" in the name, even though the slide is still marked "P22".
The captured recoil spring was not part of the changes in the P22Q original release. It came with the P22QD, released in 2017. After the QD model got discontinued, it stayed with the current crop of P22Q :)

Thanks for your post. I have a Walther P22Q and for the most part it has served me well.
The slide on my P22 cracked like yours did. I sent it to Walther. Walther service replaced it in one day. Shipping both ways was about 2 days.

      At 5 cents that’s almost 10k worth of 22lr

My P22 has maybe 5k rounds through it and it looks like it. The finish is wearing off of the slide from holstering and the parts fit is a little sloppier than it used to be. There’s little areas in the slide that have been worn down by internal moving parts. And those zinc slide guides on the frame should have some wear with that high of a round count. The slide and frame are zinc. I don’t want to question his round count, but I have a really hard time believing that a P22 is physically capable of 19,000 rounds, let alone 190,000. I’m not questioning his integrity - I’m sure he has no reason to make up numbers; I’m just really surprised. That’s like having 5,000,000 miles on a Saturn.

@@CutlassOutdoorsTwo possible things. He mistakenly typed 190,000 instead of 19,000 which is still a lot. Or it's pure BS.

I owned my last P22 for a little over 10 years (2010 - 2020), and shot 5k to 6k rounds through it, enough to wear out the single action sear/hammer notch (hammer will follow the slide after I chamber a round, as if there's an automatic decocker). Walther/Umarex fixed it for free. I can't imagine what after 190k will look like :)

These are both great guns, but I can tell you that spring is a big deal, you can upgrade the one that flies across the room with a contained spring for about 20 bucks, I got mine on Amazon but it's easy to find almost anywhere I you need to do it, get it if you have that crappy spring because it's not just about the extreme convenience of the contained spring, it's about the reliability, I've never had a failure to feed with the upgraded spring. The gun never should have shipped without the contained spring. I love here how he's talking about a fixing the spring issue and that "nothing else jumps out at him" once he got that fixed with a replacement. Truer words were never spoken. If you lost faith or got tied of the cleaning hassle, you need to replace that spring and you'll feel like you just got a brand new gun, it's not a small improvement. I went on so long about this because it's such a great gun with the new spring and such a drag without it, also it's cheap as hell for a German gun part. Good luck and have fun with your new improved pistol. BTW, I have lot's of choice but I wouldn't hesitate for an instant to use this in a selfdefense situation. For one thing, if you do hesitate, it could be a bad day for you, but the .22 round is a really great round because the recoil is so small, you can get several shots off, on target faster than the bigger bore weapons, not just faster but on target. Many people struggle to get rounds on target and that's important. It makes no difference what gun or ammo you shoot in selfdefense events if you are not on target and first, that's the winner. You need to practice to find out what you shoot best with, you must choose the gun that works for you, first and accurate. Remember the S.F. in Israel choose and use the .22 Most gun battles are up close,
within 3 feet, use only 3 shot and it's over in 3 seconds, most of the time. So prepare for every scenario but that one the most. Have fun..

I always heard that the p22 was America's sweetheart 22lr plinking gun because of its reliability. So I bought one and am waiting for it to come in but have to say that after digging a bit deeper into the model the general word on the street is that if you get a 'good one' and not a 'lemon' it will shoot like a champ. That really isn't what I wanted to hear.
I plan on running it through the gauntlet to see what it will take. After 500 rounds or so, if it has problems then I'll look for wear patches on the slide etc. and do some buffing and polishing to see what happens. I don't expect to much because after all, it is a fairly inexpensive pistol. Either way, it's all about the fun and the journey.

yr likely going to want to polish your feed ramp and barrel bottom divet with a dremel polishing pad. (i did) then also you will want to get a captured recoil spring and probably the tandem cross extractor and firing pin internals for like 20 bucks each. Having done these things - whether i had a "champ" or a "lemon" its now a "champ" it went to the range yesterday and shot an entire box of SUBSONIC AMMO (600fps aka slow as fuck) without a single jam. I then shot a box of cci stingers and also had no problems i shot with control first both times and then did mag dumps to finish - twice for each ammo type and the gun fired as fast as i could pull the trigger with problems.
Polish the feed ramp, its a no brainer. bullet go in feed ramp then into breech so polish feed ramp n have good gun unga bunga.....

      How is it shooting?

    • @randmayfield5695

@@irongoose3865 It's definitely finicky on what type of ammunition that cycles best. I love the way it shoots and for me, it has a great feel. The most frustrating thing is the poorly designed front sight. Out of the box it wiggles back and forth and of course this affects accuracy considerably. Why Walther hasn't fixed that I don't know but it is an almost universal complaint.

@@randmayfield5695 I was just thinking. Maybe some JB Weld on the backside of the slide might secure it? 🤔 Or th-cam.com/video/hBawACYvdhY/w-d-xo.html

@@irongoose3865 Hey, thanks for the suggestion and 'link's. It is greatly appreciated. I watched the Hi Viz instructional and decided to go with that because the sight is metal and attaches with a set screw. Your JB Weld suggestion was a good one but I am looking for a longer term solution. The front sight is plastic so it's just a matter of time before it gets knocked off. I also upgraded to the TK ejector and firing pin. I had three weak strikes and a few failure to eject issues with CCI Stinger ammo so what the heck, it will be fun to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks again for your help. Stay safe.

The gray is a p22q, the black is earlier, had to file down and smooth out the places to help it function properly.

ok i have one beef with this gun, its the trigger, mine is brand new, and the trigger sucks, now granted, I might have run 2 maybe 3 clips through this gun, i haven't taken it apart to clean it as yet and im hoping once I clean it and oil it up it would be better, the trigger is really stiff, the gun works as it should, it fires ok, reasonably accurate but man, I really hate that trigger, I also own a keltec 22 and its like night and day I bought the walther for my wife and im thinking of just giving her the keltec instead. I don't know if anything can be done with the walther trigger, i'm open to advice! I would like to keep the gun if the trigger can be fixed!

@ i figured it out, this gun has a rather hefty hammer spring, i took the gun apart and lubed and greased the trigger/hammer mechanism and the trigger pull was still heavy, maybe walther sells a lighter hammer spring
