    I got one recently and took it out to the range for the first time with a few friends. Ran 500rds of Norma tac22 with 0 malfunctions. Out of the 10ish guns we took it was everyone’s favorite.

    Thank you. I'm waiting for mine to get to my local gun shop. I bought it without trying it (because of Covid), after watching reviews. I needed an easy to handle small 22 for range because of the cost of ammo for my S & W 380EZ. For the most part, reviews have been pretty positive. I appreciate your review. You caught a couple things others didn't mention, like that screw that may need tightened. It will help me to know what to watch for.

      I picked up my P 22 CA on Monday. I put 100 rounds through it on Tuesday. On Wednesday I am now struggling with reassembly due to the recoil spring. Apparently I have the old style spring that doesn’t have the capture cap. Reassembly is a pain I wish I had seen your video prior to my purchase.

      That is awesome!! I was 6 when when my dad and uncle first took me; however, it was revolver and .22lr rifles only. I am a true believer the earlier the better. I was 10 when they finally let me start shooting his .357 and M1 Rifle. Although my training through child-hood were revolvers only; your son is a lucky dude to be learning on a pistol. Are you considering throwing at .22lr revolver in the mix? I did not even shoot my first pistol until I turned 18 when I went to a pawn shop and bought a 10mm Glock, lol.

    I have a P22 that I bought back in 2018/2019. Initially I had problems...the main problem being feeding and extraction issues. I bought the Volquartsen Extractor...and it sucked, and I didn't see any improvements regarding extraction. Still had the feeding issues at times. So let me tell you how I fixed it. Oh and when I bought the P22 initially it came with a Non Captured guide rod. I bought a Tamdenkross captured guide rod. Helluva lot better and much easier to put back together. I mentioned the Volquartsen extractor...that was junk...so I did some research online and found a company called Lugus Mfg. There's like the Volquarstsen is made of Stainless Steel but the Lugus Mfg is thicker, and the claw is more aggressive and has a better angle. Lastly I polished the feed ramp myself. once those things were done.. the P22 runs like a champ now. What I also would recommend...is run .22lr ammunition that has a minimum 1200 fps

    Bought mine for 279.99 brand new from Runnings in upstate NY. If you buy the right ammo and keep the chamber and feed ramp clean its ultra reliable. Feed it mini mags, aguila high velocity, rem golden bullet or even Armscor and it'll run great. Also I put a Hogue grip on mine and it feels much better to hold now. In the beginning this gun was a pita but I love mine now.

    Just bought this pistol. I don't like the magazine disconnect or the Safety. Not because of the style of safety but because it's a safety. I don't understand why any pistol would have a magazine disconnect or a safety. (Drop safety yeah but manual safety... Why? You don't want it to shoot then keep it in the kydex.) Other than those two things, I think it's awesome. Feels, looks and functions great.

      Yea when I first got one I thought that the safety was stupid just makes you feel really uncomfortable like only a little tiny bit stops it from hitting the pin but that’s not enough room for my comfort very scary but it it what it is just gotta be really careful as usual like any other gun ig

    • @CoelhoSports
      @CoelhoSports 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My problem with that safety is it is in the down position when safe and up when live, which is the opposite of almost all other firearms. As far as whether to have a manual safety or not, that's personal preference. As a pocket pistol you may want to reconsider your aversion to manual safeties because of the possibility of the trigger catching something and then the future generations could be in peril. Too many stories of people shooting themselves downstairs when the trigger gets caught on something

    • @apophisprime7135
      @apophisprime7135 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CoelhoSports I agree. I very rarely pocket carry. When I do, it's in dress pants. That way, unlike jeans, I'm in the mindset that nothing can touch my pants. I naturally don't want them getting dirty anyways. Plus I use a pocket carry holster that stays in when I pull the pistol out. Also nothing else ever goes in that pocket. I prefer a minimalist kydex trigger guard only holster on my belt. I traded this pistol back in on the Walther PPQ.22lr. It fits my .22lr needs more and it's been a great pistol. As far as concealed carry goes... I'll just stick to my G42 as my smallest carry opinion from now on. In retrospect, I really love how the P22 looks and feels. I'm very attracted to it aesthetically. However, it didn't fit my lifestyle/carry mentality the way I wanted it to.

    So, I am curious, the first time you fired the pistol, you appear to be sighting using your right eye and your trigger finger is on your right hand. Afterwards, you cover your right eye with a perforated, appears to be a sunglass lens and yet your are still shooting with your right hand. Trying to figure this out???

    Hey Doc . Been awhile since I was here. A good pistol for the small amount of cash. Course I'm also fond of the Bersa thunders too. Both of these guns are very dependable for the small amount paid. Seems like whether you're asking or talking about either, both have loyal followers. With very few negative Nellie's. I like all mine. But I like everything I can get my hands on , without the wife to regulate me now and again. I could be in real financial difficulty. Lol. My brothers always ask me just how many guns do I actually have ? But I never tell. The wife knows exactly how many, I don't want to know. Ya know. Anyways you look great. The function is needed so that you don't have an accidental discharge because you forgot to clear the gun and not so you don't dry fire it. Pistols are notorious for accidentally going off because a round was left in the chamber. Magazine disconnects are a great feature. I'm not sure why lots of folks don't like them.

      I really like that about the gun it’s more safe and nobody belongs shooting a pistol without a magazine anyways lmao absolutely no situation should you drop out your magazine and then fire off the last bullet in the chamber it makes no sense so at that point Why Not have this extra safety precaution it’s kinda nice cuz you can leave it laying around and keep the mag in your pocket it’s kinda child safe Nobody can fire it without the mag I basically a key I like that

    • @tattooninja
      @tattooninja ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spaghettipizza47 It doesn't make sense to me because I don't need it. If I'm never firing without the mag & there's no reason to fire one round or anything, then we're never doing that, so we don't need it. Doesn't it just add more parts & things that could go wrong? Making the mag into a key only makes sense in places that require you to keep ammo & gun separate (which obviously makes it almost useless).

    I bought a used one, I think the original owner didn't shoot it much and never cleaned it because he had no idea how to field strip it and it was dirty inside. I reasearched it a lot before buying it and I was aware of potential problems and reputation with some people (picky eater, uncaptured spring...etc)
    The gun is great and the ergonomics are great! Have I had issues...? Yeah...do they bother me...? Not really. This pistol has a break-in period of about 1,000 rounds (hammer and ramp issues will usually dissapear). After the brake-in period the gun should be one of the smoothest and reliable...one can speed up this process by polishing ramp, chamber and hammer. One can upgrade spring, but once you figure out how to easily re-insert the uncaptured spring, it's not a big deal...and one can change extractor...not an issue for me.
    I know some people are of the opinion of "a gun should be suoer smooth out of the box "...well either one hasn't been around long enough or one doesn't acknowledge that you are dealing with a mechanical device through which you put explosive devices! All things mechanical can have malfunctions some more than others...even cars have a break-in period. My P365 .380 is super smooth but I had ammo malfunction (due to ammo; fiocchi)...so...wear and tear usually smooth things out.
    The magazine disconnect is mandatory in CA to prevent accidental discharges of rounds forgotten in the chamber...I suspect that Walther decided to make this standard on all P22s. The barrel is threaded and you can put a suppressor on it, except in CA where any threaded barrel is consider an assult weapon. In CA all P22 barrels are permanently attached and you cannot diassemble the barrel without potential damage to barrel and possibly braking the law...so that's that!
    Good non-partial review 👍

    Generally not a good idea to dry fire a rimfire pistol on live setting. Eventually you'll damage the pin or chamber wall. Some .22's are made to dry fire safely and say so in their manual but most tell you not to do it. On safe this is ok to dry fire.

    On the California version, when there is NO magazine in the gun, the trigger is disengaged.
    California calls it a Magazine Disconnect is is supposed to prevent accidental discharges with a round that was LEFT in the chamber.

    I just bought one and right out of the box i sight it and saw that the front sight was tilting to the right. Unpon further inspection it was loose and wiggly. It's simply a very poor design. I bought a $42 aftermarket sight to replace it. I love the the p22 for lots of reasons and dislike it for a few others. Walther isn't as good as they say they are.

    Nope to many cons for the money. There are better out there for the same or a few dollars more that would be worth buying.
    My 1911-22 and S and W both have the magazine safety in it. I took it out of the 1911-22. I find them to be a pain in the tush. For the P22 to be dry fire safe you have to have the safety on with the safety on and no mag will it “fire”? Good review but it seemed to me that with all the cons you didn’t really like it but were little apprehensive to say that.

      @@apophisprime7135 it is a full metal pistol. X3 and x5 I’m not sure if it’s that much but it is more. Which in turn gives you a disadvantage because you have to shoot high velocity ammunition unless if you get the upgrade for it. Then the 1911 takes over the weight helps keep the recoil down. Shooting a full metal pistol feels better in the hand in my opinion.

    Not being able to fire it without the magazine being in is so that you cannot have a negligent discharge because you left a round in the chamber and removed the mag to put it away "safely". It is an idiot safety device.

      This P22 is available in CA at Turner's regularly. The pistol is not classified as a "Saturday Night Special" in any State. Your reference to a "government meltdown list" is curious. Neither the ATF nor the Department of Justice sites confirm what you are saying. Numerous reputable You Tube reviewers in several states have done extensive testing on this pistol and supported it as a good pistol for a new shooter. Most suggest CCI Mini Mags but not the hollow point versions. Overall, it appears you have some issues with availability.
