    Maybe the victims werent chosen because they were menstruating but they were killed because of it. Imagine that the killer charmed these women and thinking he was on a promise of sex, walked these ladies home, probably after a kiss and cuddle, then being turned down to go any further because these women were menstruating or discovering they were, he flew into a murderous rage feeling duped or led on. I think there will be more victims that were either raped or maybe even consented and never saw his evil side as he got what he wanted from them and the victims felt they couldnt come forward due to attitudes toward victims in that era.

      This is my personal theory as well; it's called survivorship bias. Because we only focus on victims that meet a particular criteria - women on their period - we don't look at anything else. What if Bible John's intention was to rape, but when he came upon a menstruating women (who are "unclean"), he murdered them instead? We aren't paying attention to other victims because we're only focused on murdered ones, and because of that, other potential witnesses were never identified.

    The police made quite a few significant mistakes by dismissing potentially key avenues of inquiry and by getting tunnel vision in their focus on just one theory with regards to suspects. That said, they are human like the rest of us and they make mistakes. The sad part is that whoever killed those three women got away with murder.

    • @VioletJoy
      @VioletJoy 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      That's actually not accurate. I looked into the case online and found that there was a massive investigation, much of which was not shared in this video for some reason. They didn't get tunnel vision at all. They were allowing the evidence to lead them, but there just wasn't much to go on. Evidently, at first, they didn't think 2 of the cases were necessarily connected for a few reasons, one being that they were 18 months apart. Anyway, here is some info I discovered:
      Over 100 investigators were assigned to the case full-time
      16 undercover male and female detectives went to the ballroom twice a week
      Over 450 hairdressers in the area were shown the sketch
      Over 50,000 witness statements were taken
      Over 5,000 potential suspects were questioned in the first year alone

    • @mirandagoldstine8548
      @mirandagoldstine8548 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah. I have a theory on why he was so hyper focused on menstruating women. I think Bible John was brought up in a strict, fundamentalist household that stated that women who were on their periods were unclean. You see Judaism actually has a reference to menstrual blood by stating that they (women) are tainted during their periods and in the past the Church specified that women should not have intercourse while menstruating. In fact after a women’s menstrual cycle ends the woman was expected to take a ritual bath to purify herself in order to wash away the impurity. At least that’s what I recall from what I learned via reading certain Jewish texts and books on Medieval history. I’m trying not to let a bias form because of my knowledge but that’s been my theory on what drove Bible John to commit his crimes. If anyone has any theories of their own I would be interested to read them. Whatever the case may be this person was clearly not stable mentally and he took mothers away from their children. Hopefully he is rotting away in Helheim where he belongs.

    Tobin just seems too convenient. It's like pinning the Green River murders on Ted Bundy b/c he was originally from the Seattle area. My guess, due to the mention of rather white-collar/intelligencia attributes, is that he might have been a visiting scholar at Glasgow University. He was someone who'd been in the city long enough to learn the lay of the land but was only there for a finite amount of time.
    It's heartbreaking to hear the the physical evidence was improperly stored. That happens more often than it should.

    I'm curious where some of the information you shared came from. From what I could find online, within hours of finding her sister's body, police released a sketch according to Jean's description, even later improving it using new technology. 🤔
    Jean was brought in 300 times to view potential suspects in a lineup. Although bouncers gave a different description and said hers was not accurate, her description was the one used.
    I saw direct quotes from police reports, none of which shamed the women or indicated that they deserved it. Saying things like they "were known to be promiscuous" is a fair note to keep in mind. It could possibly show one reason why they were chosen, especially considering the perpetrator acted holier than thou.

We only heard of the stories where a woman who wasn't on her best behaviour, in any way at all, was partially at fault. Knowing better now, it just goes to show how the men in charge are so committed to the idea that women are property to be done with as they wish, that if the woman wasn't a saint, that was a reasonable defence to a rape. Dudes, is it too much to ask that you don't rape us? Too much?

The reality is, there are predators out there and we all need to take care not to elevate our risk. Before I leave the house I evaluate risk, and rather than having a go at the media it would be better to encourage all young people to do the same. For example, don't take taxis home with strangers. It's basic safety advice, and blaming the media will not help a single person be safer in the future. Be more responsible in your analysis.

      There was A LOT more to this investigation than wasn't mentioned here. There were both male and female decoys set up at the ballroom. In fact, over 100 investigators were assigned to the case, over 50,000 witness statements were taken, and over 5,000 suspects were questioned within the first year. I'm not sure why that info was left out. Also, I saw no mention of the sister's description not being believed. Her description was released to the public and was even later improved upon by the use of new technology.

      No profiling in those days - thought to be 'weirdie' stuff. Also, women in the Police were largely used as secretaries, and thought to be 'unsuited' to undercover work. On the very rare occasions this happened it would prompt all sorts of discussions before and after, which are another story.

    I've heard Prof. David Wilson talk about his theory that Peter Tobin may be Bible John & David Wilson makes a convincing argument in the documentary I watched (I wish I could remember the name of it, it may be one of the "Born to Kill" programmes, but I'm not 100% sure). The difficulty with bite marks is that unless they're cross-matched at the time, it's almost impossible to say whether they belong to a particular person or not decades later, as teeth shift over time & with wear. I wouldn't feel comfortable ruling out Prof. David Wilson's theory based on teeth marks.

    Is Helen Puttock's sister Jean still alive I wonder. She described "John" to police and said he looked similar to a previous sketch of the possible killer. This video showed a photo of Peter Tobin when younger. If Jean is still alive has she been shown Tobin's photo? Does she still remember the young man with overlapping front teeth? It's rather unfortunate that the DNA has been lost or misplaced in the case.

    • @mirandagoldstine8548
      @mirandagoldstine8548 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I totally agree with you. I personally think he was from a fundamentalist Christian household which clung onto the archaic belief once espoused by the Catholic Church that a menstruating woman was impure and she needed to sequester herself away from men not her husband. Thus he probably saw the women who went to those dance halls as “living in sin” and probably felt like he had direct “judgement” upon them for their actions. Of course that may be biased based on my knowledge of old Jewish traditions and Medieval history. Who honestly knows with this case. It would be interesting to know how religious Peter Tobin’s household was when he was growing up because if he was Bible John it would be a catalyst for why he committed those crimes. Not that he is forgiven of his crimes of course. I personally think Bible John is suffering in the afterlife, either rotting away in Helheim or else reincarnated as a measly bug. I honestly don’t know which fate is more fitting for a miserable piece of a human like him.

    People are asking about how he could know they were on their periods, I have a simpler explanation. After making an advance on these women, they could have lied and said “I’m on my period.” To politely say “no.” To his advances and this made him snap. That, or they were not on their period but were mothers and he left the tampons there to represent periods, which a woman of birthing age would have.
