Whatever happened I feel so sorry for the innocent children. They had no choice in whatever crazy lifestyle their parents were into or who their parents considered friends and business associates. Tragic.
You just know the 14 year old probably had to do butt stuff before they put her out of her misery.
It’s truly scary how real these things are and happening right now !! It’s most heartbreaking because any child caught in the middle of these things have NO hope or sort of safety… absolutely none.
@@user-sj8fu8cw9g Exactly. My parents were incredible. They always put my siblings and I first. We knew we were safe and loved. I feel very sorry for kids that are in bad situations whether it be parents on drugs who expose them to criminal elements, kids who are abused, etc.
The Valley is actually called The San Fernando Valley. Lassen was the street they lived on. Northridge was the town they lived in, a suburb of Los Angeles. This disappearance has haunted Valley residents for 41 years. When a family disappears from a community under such circumstances, it leaves a hole in the community's heart forever after. Thank you so much for covering their story. If you didn't catch the Los Angeles magazine article on the story, it's worth digging up for background.
An L.A. County homocide detective detective (not involved in this case) once told me that if all of the undiscovered dead discarded in the Lancaster/Palmdale area of the Antelope Valley were to stand up and be counted today, the high desert there would be standing room only.
Oh, and the Sheik's mansion! Tacky and mind-boggling beyond belief. What nude statues with painted-on black public hair front and center on the walls along Sunset Blvd. The roof was made of copper, and when the fire heated up the roof, the firemen's boots melted as they tried to knock down the blaze. People had been complaining to have those statues taken down for years.

It was mentioned on the Charley Project site that passports, wallets and personal photos of the missing family were found along the Antelope Valley Highway up near Acton, California less than a week after they vanished. I used to live up in the Antelope Valley for awhile about 20 years ago (it's a high desert north of L.A. for those who don't know the area), and there's many, many remote and lonely places where their remains would almost certainly never be found.
Indeed. That desert region is vast and even with the huge population growth over the last 4 decades, it's still quite remote.
I've lived in California my whole life, was born in LA. I have a friend whose late husband told a story of being a young boy, maybe 5? And driving to the desert with his father and uncle. They stopped somewhere out there, took a trunk from the back of the car, and buried it. This would have probably been in the Mojave, maybe 1950? I sometimes search online to see if anyone's discovered that trunk & whatever/whoever is inside of it.
Oddly enough Harvey Rader bought property in Acton right around 2002. I dont believe it was in his name tho.
And i think thats where they are, thats why he bought the property

How awful. The broken bed and the missing sheets points to an assault of the mother or daughter and then her murder, while the accomplice got the son and daughter/mother into the vehicle. Horrific! Investigators should have looked into any properties being built that were connected to Rader. Cement foundations is usually the chosen place to hide people for these organized criminals. I hope this case gets solved and the family laid to rest properly.

It is also a very well known fact that organised criminals such as mafia gangsters not only have put folks into building foundations, but also make them wear cement shoes before dropping them overboard. Plus they have been known to bury them in the deserts too. So there is a very good chance that the family could be in a mine shaft, as that would be easier than digging graves in hard desert landscapes.

Maybe they are just going to buy new clothes? Also they might have dropped their wallets from the plane they were on. That's how the wallets and all their ID which they'd need to board the plane was in the middle of nowhere.
What kind of an idiot would tell their friend to stay in an abusive relationship because her husband had a fancy house and lots of money. A huge idiot and not much of a friend. And it shows how people's obsession with money is a sickness.....one that has now poisoned society

Why on earth go back to the family home? Sol could have been disposed of and unfound, as the whole family is at this point. I think the idea that children were off limits to this killer is ludicrous. I also can't help but think of Michelle's broken bed, and what violence was committed on her before she was killed.
It makes me so mad to hear of the witness's testimony being thrown out as having been 'coerced'. That's just so bogus, as here in the states it's perfectly legal for police to lie to anyone they are questioning in attempts to elicit a confession or statement that leads to a perpetrator. How is this ultimately any different? Smh.

My parents certainly traumatized me and my grandparents traumatized them and so on. I come from a long line of addicts and abusers so you can't tell me generational trauma isnt real
I'm beginning to wonder if the general public can be relied on to think critically on a jury. And if not, where do we go from here? The last 3 years demonstrated that the vast majority of the general public can't think for themselves. When a provable fact is uncomfortable, people will pretend it doesn't exist.
Juries are given very specific information d very specific instructions. It’s not like TV.

I hope the Saloman family is found soon and justice is served. Their family and friends deserve answers.
The final jury even said they thought it was probably him, but couldn't find him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That's precisely what the jury is _supposed_ to do. Prosecution should have waited to go to trial again until they had a stronger case and could defend against the points of the holdout juror from the first case (the prosecutor should have known full well that the defense would have restructured their defense accordingly). If the police/prosecutor's office had continued to investigate, who knows? Perhaps they might have found bodies (as morbid as that sounds) or additional evidence to lock in a conviction.
It's heartbreaking for friends and family and yes, ultimately, justice was denied to this family.
How could that juror not know the family is dead? It’s supposed to be “guilty beyond a reasonable doubt” not beyond any doubt. You don’t get blood splatters from a bloody nose.
I'm surprised that the other jurors didn't press that juror harder to explain what their reasoning was to that they're still alive. Other than... there's no bodies, so how do we know they aren't dead? There's no activity on their bank accounts, no activity connected to their social security numbers, they didn't pack anything to leave, their cars were still at their home, the blood stains, the perpetrators lack of a credible timeline which fell apart under scrutiny, the tossed wallets and documents. The other murders connected to the guy. How that juror could be allowed to not vote guilty and not be talked into changing their mind is crazy. It's beyond a reasonable doubt, not beyond any doubt. You can't just say "they're still alive" without providing proof or evidence or reasonable suspicion as to why they are alive.
Unfortunately "a jury of your peers" can be stupid, stubborn, or have an agenda. It's really horrible. I hope i never need to count on them personally. So many are already failing society every day, by letting scumbag criminals off.
You're mistaken about where the burden of proof exists. It's not on the defense to prove someone is alive, it's on the state to prove that they are dead - and that typically involves either a body or significant medical evidence of their death (i.e. a ton of blood).
I'm as annoyed as you are that justice wasn't served here, but the fault lay squarely on the Prosecution and Police for botching this case and failing to prove their case.@@NickyBlue99

The family vanishes are often among the most baffling you would think that they would be easier to notice but that often seems to not be the case at all you would wonder how that many people could just disappear into thin air without anyone noticing i mean if they were kidnapped you would have thought that someone might have heard a struggle of some sort but its like they were there one minute and gone never to be seen again the next one

Stories like this make me hurt on the inside , it must be so painful for the family to deal with the disappearance of people they’ve known all their lives and get no closure ,I’ve thought of taking my life so many times by walking into traffic but I think about the trauma I would put so many people through , I hope the family gets the healing they need
This is one of my biggest fears for my loved ones. I've struggled with thoughts of suicide since I was a teenager. The thought of my family/friends not being able to see me, and confirm that I'm gone would be a wound that I don't think would ever heal.
I actually have a friend that this happened to and it destroyed his life

For the most part, so-called justice system in the United States, is laughable at best and deplorable at its worst. I am always appalled at the considerations given to the defense side of heinous crimes, versus the little consideration generally given to the victims. In this case, it’s disgusting.
It is an imperfect system, but I promise you , Mexico and South America is insanely worse and way more corrupt.
It really isn't, tho. And compared to other countries' "justice systems," America's is one of the best, if not the best. Unless you think the justice system in countries like China, any Pacific asian country, any Middle Eastern country, or any African country is better. Or the justice system of European countries or Canada or Australia... which seem to be far too lenient on violent criminals.
Also, what is so bad about America's justice system? You say it gives little consideration for victims, I'd like to know what you mean by this.

One of the best if not the best in the World. Not perfect but pretty amazing. I don't live in the US anymore, but its truly a Marvel in ever way!

Fear will make you do things you don't want to do. Perhaps Rader didn't like the idea of killing children, but a lifetime in prison was more daunting to him. He'd already spent time in an English prison so he knew what he faced. But he also had money; lots of it. The bumbling actions of the police almost sound like they intentionally botched the crime scene so the killer could get away! Then they had him, then they didn't, then they did, etc. etc. The whole thing reads like a Hollywood script! Bottom line, all the perps, including the police involved, got away scot free! So, no justice for two innocent children and a woman who may not have been a perfect wife but certainly didn't deserve to be killed and abandoned in a mine shaft or buried somewhere desolate. Only tears, fears and anger. The citizens of the San Fernando Valley have a right to still be hortified all these years later! So am I!

Remember that Japanese foreign exchange student who got lost on Halloween. He rang a homeowner doorbell to ask for directions. He was shot to death for his troubles.

Sad case. It's awful when children are involved. They should have instead tried him for the murder of the daughter only. It was only her blood found. It would have been their strongest case.
There is reasonable doubt. No other blood of the other family members, no weapons, no bodies - so I can see why that one jury did hold out. We don't know what evidence was mentioned in court. It is purely circumstantial.
I agree he did it - but you need evidence. We are hearing the whole picture but the jury did not hear everything. There are too many what-ifs. Who is to say Sol did not kill his family and leave the country? I wonder if they saved ANYTHING that could be submitted for DNA testing...
