Those girls fucked around and found out. They should have never abandoned their young siblings. They went to that beach to meet some guy. He bought the one girl lunch and told her to bring her friend to the sand dune. Idk why he wanted both. That's why he couldn't get a hard on. If he lured one girl it would of been much easier to assault and grape her. The killer was a moron and the girls as well. The older sister could of stayed with her siblings and would have lived. I bet her friend convinced her to come meet this nice guy he'll buy you lunch. She only ended up getting herself and her friend brutally killed. Australia is so terrible at solving murders. The FBI had to come in the late 70s or early 80s and teach those backwater cops how to properly solve murders. Australians entire goverment and their alphabet agencies aren't any better.

I was at the Wanda Beach sand dunes a few months back. All these years later it's still creepy as, in my opinion. It infuriates me that the perp remains unpunished. These days I hope this would no longer be possible. I look forward to a time when DNA and CCTV will stop every wannabe rapist/killer in their tracks, or after only one incident.

It is odd that the girls would leave the younger children alone like that. I assume Christine met someone when she wandered off earlier and talked the other girl into meeting him. Maybe she drank the little bit of alcohol then. The crime must have happened quickly because the kids waited for their return for about 2 hours and then went home. I don't believe that Marianne would have left them there alone that long unless she was restrained or already dead. It is a shocking amount of violence, they were just children. I feel sorry for the Mother for all she went through after the move to Australia and of course both girls and their families. I hope they solve it as it really bothers Hans to not have this creep caught or if he is dead, identified. There have been a lot of unsolved beach murders in Australia.

Bassett lived a fairly short travel distance from Wanda beach. Could be one of any number of sickos. They're everywhere, just waiting for opportunity. Within half a kilometre of where I live, there was the Kim Barry murder and the Bulli rapist lived even closer, just behind my neighbour. If you worked out how many crimes happened in your local area , I think you would be surprised.

It is believed that the girls had both been kissing some boys a day earlier . I feel that on this day too they were heading to some part of the beach to meet the same boys . The girls might have had only some innocent kissing in mind but perhaps the boys wanted more . They might have overpowered the girls and when met with resistant , killed them brutally . This seems like the only plausible explanation to me .

My heart weeps for Christine and Marianne and I offer my sincerest sympathies to Hans and his siblings and to Christine's family. Hans displayed nothing short of superhuman courage, determination, and love for his sister when, at the age of thirteen, he not only accompanied his mother to the dunes where the girls were found but also viewed the photos of his sister's body. He deserves a Medal of Mettle.
Now, about the crime, I'm not convinced that there was just one perpetrator. Why would a lone perpetrator let the first girl go and bring back another girl, which would reduce his chances of getting away with the crime? Three's a crowd. I think the girls most likely went to meet a pair of older boys/young men.
Lastly, I'm no psychic but, over the decades, my intuition sometimes and somehow convinces me, out of the blue, that I know things that I have no way of knowing. It happened more frequently when I was younger but it still happens. Anyway, it happened when the photo of that piece of human offal named Wilder popped on my screen. I actually said 'it was him' to nobody the instant I saw his face. He's the one who savagely took the lives of those two girls and I think he had an accomplice. I sure would like to know whether or not the semen samples taken from the bodies contain the same DNA.
