I pass the lay-by where this beautiful girl’s body was found when I drive home from work. I think of her every time. May she rest in peace and never be forgotten.

@@fishandchipsuppernot necessarily. I take a different route home everyday from the one I take in the morning. I drop my son off at school on my way to work, but I don’t need to pick him up on my way home (my husband picks him up). It’s also a better route in the evening due to traffic.

Honestly in at least 95%+ of these cases the perpetrator don't end up with a punishment that fits their crime and in many cases they are back out roaming the streets again after less than 10 years in prison

What kind of sentence is 14 years for murder?? Manslaughter can get a longer sentence. Horrible!

@@eadweard. There was mention of another murder of yet another young girl. That guy got 14 years. Even the first guy who killed Celine only got 20-life. That means he could possibly get out in 20. These murders both deserve life without the possibility of parole.

We do not value the lives of women and children enough. It's clear from the sentences. 'Consensual sex' with a woman who was horribly murdered is not a defense. "Oh, yeah, forgot to tell you that."

I remember this case because it was held in my home town and one of the nuns from my school acted as a translator for Celine’s parents. So unbelievably sad and awful.
I mean the trial was held*
When I was in college in NY right around the time of Celine’s murder, my group of girl friends used to attend a lot of concerts, go out to college bars and other local establishments and generally just go to where the fun was. We travelled. It was very common to see other college friends or other young girls/women accepting rides, going off with men, etc. I grew up with one of my parents in search and rescue who was a first responder, so I’d really worry about people. Anyway, we got a group together that would tell any man picking up a girl we had to see his license and his plate number. We’d ask as a group in a flirtatious manner. Often some of us were too drunk to even remember the license plate numbers or license info but these guys didn’t know that. Of all of the people we ever asked only two refused to provide any info. But of all those that provided the info nothing ever happened. I often wonder if we helped save any girls while still not infringing on their choices? Most of the guys took it as a funny way to prove they weren’t serial killers! It was almost a joke but also serious. I wonder about the two that wouldn’t let us see their vehicles or picture ID’s! When they refused the girls they were with didn’t go off with them. I swear you can never be too careful, and while this didn’t guarantee anything, It did put people on notice!
Clearly a potential serial killer. Fortunately he was way too dumb to get beyond one victim.
How can you tell?
He stole her parents' lives as well. Life sentences for these animals and a life of hard labor. Everybody else has to work to eat. They get a free ride on taxpayer dime instead.

I'm French and I was living in the US at the time, but I was home for the holidays... I was just a few years older than Céline. It broke my heart because I was home with my family and Céline's family would never see her again. I remember lighting a candle for her at my local church, may she rest in peace.

I travel a lot and it’s cheaper to find short cuts or cheap accommodation. But it’s worth it to spend more not only for comfort but also safety.

That was a particularly brutal murder of a sweet young woman. He should never be allowed back into society after doing that to her. He is a deranged, sadistic killer who couldn't control his hideous urges to torture and destroy a strangers daughter.

Why bother using the words "life sentence" when it's literally only 2 decades? Why not just say what it is--a 20 yr sentence?

Certificate of Secondary Education, it has been replaced in the UK at this time. It is the basic exam that you take before leaving school in the UK, if I remember correctly it had five grades, Grade 1 allegedly being equivalent to the at the time higher 'O' level certificate but it is a bit dubious, a grade4 or 5 I think was classed as a fail with three being the average.

It's a certificate to confirm you attended and completed secondary school education (high school)
@ruralliving3024 actually it a basic level examination ( in various subjects , ie , English , mathematics , physics, geography , chemistry , etc ) that most students undertake . The exams for more advanced students are ' O ' Level generally at 16 years of age and the ' A ' Level at 17 years of age .
It's nothing to do with completing Senior school as you can still finish school in the UK with absolutely no examination credits whatsoever .

I don't actually know what to say, I just wanted the family to feel they have another person who cares. I can't imagine the pain, and I don't want to! I am not qualified to help them in any way, I just want to. At least, I can let them know people care. I care. I can only imagine their loss by wondering how I would feel if I lost my son for any reason. That is a nightmare that hasn't come true. So, this family is having that nightmare over and over... I really hope the nightmares can end somehow. They don't deserve it, the lady didn't deserve it!
I don't know what they went through. I can only hope their lives get better. (Hugs to them if they want hugs)

Why did this happen to her? Because she came across a sick and twisted individual who saw an opportunity. That's why. There's nothing more to it than that. Maybe that's easier for me to see because here in America we have a lot of those freaks around. He seemed to breed them special. But there's no other reason.
Exactly. A bad person saw a chance to do something terrible to gratify some sort of disgusting impulse. But her parents are in so much pain that they still wonder how anyone could be that evil. He ruined their lives.
Was thinking something similar. He killed her because he knew he'd done a terrible thing and that she'd tell and he'd be in trouble. He murdered her in an attempt to shut her up.
