I have both and have been mainly using the AT Pro because I’m still new to the hobbby and I’ve been having trouble with signal discrimination on the Vanquish since the VDI only goes to 50 instead of 100. This has encouraged me to continue to get to know the Vanquish a little better.

I like my AT Pro, but it doesn't have very good separation when iron is nearby. I put a nail next to a quarter and it wouldn't pick up the quarter on top of the ground when the nail was horizontal to the quarter. When I swung the coil so the that the nail was parallel to the quarter, it picked up the quarter. The nail was about two inches away from the quarter in both cases. I was using the stock coil.
There is a reason why Minelab gave the Vanquish its name. At its price point Nothing Compares. Minelab always has nice crisp and clean tones, and best of all it's not a chatterbox.

@@IffySignals it's actually lighter than the stick coil. My understanding is that the coil has been out for years, but they just started making it for the pro. Again, that's my understanding, not sure though.
Quick question. You said your custom mode was based off of the coin mode on the vanquish. If you based it off the jewelry mode, would that make it hit a little deeper? Just asking because I hunt with the vanquish 540 and I'm always searching for the best performance out of it. I have been watching your videos for some time now and totally trust your advice/opinion. Relic would be the deepest and then Jewelry is a good mix of coin and relic. So it may punch a little deeper than coin. I like the depth and speed of coin mode so i have been sticking with that. Relic is definitely the deepest but a slower recovery speed. You can tell by the longer tones. Thx, sorry for the late reply. YT put this in the spam folder.

I had been looking at the Apex and the AT Pro but after your test garden with the 9” SLQ, an with the iron nails and the ring an the silver dime it really sealed the deal on the 540 with the performance and price of the of it is really unbelievable. But I have a question so when I get mine I’ll know. With the iron nails an ring an the silver dime could you please tell me what setting you had it on for it to pick up between those iron nails thanks a again thanks for your videos on such a fantastic machine can’t wait to get mine.
Hey William, great choice and appreciate the feedback on the video. I was using coin mode. Its the faster mode and still punches plenty deep. Relic mode will be your deeper with a slower recovery and jewelry is a mix of both. Good luck with your new machine. Mike
never realized how bad the at pro was until I got my deus what a difference garretts pinpointers aren't much to write home about either for 130 dollars a pop expected better got a vanquish 540 pro pack I like it but I still love my Deus better enjoy your videos very informative
That odd that the AT pro was struggling like that with the 9 inch SLQ. I can't tell you the number of Wheat Cents I've found at 9 and 10 inches with mine. I would get a great tone, but no VDI. Hopefully I'll find my first SLQ soon so I can test it. lol This was a great test. Thanks for sharing.
Hi, definitely on the Deus using to much will impact depth. Some machines it does not bother. I was able to notch with the AT as well as the ctx, equinox and Vanquish without impacting depth. The Deus takes a hit when using discrimination.
@@IffySignals the vanquish is very close to the equinox, I hunt in the UK some sights are very contaminated with minerals and iron, results from thousands of years of occupation iron age to modern day, we can not hunt in parks so it's all farm land if I was in the US I would still chose the minelabe vanquish or equinox, it can I'd better than any machine I have ever used, love your videos you hunt same as English detectorists but do it fare better than most Europeans, you keep up the good work keep digging and be safe, cheers Stuart
I dont know how anyone in their right mind would buy an AT series these days, very outdated i had 4 I tried to force myself to like, couldnt do it, tones suck ass and nose heavy with all the batteries in front of your wrist, now they make the Apex but why the hell didnt they waterproof it lmao... Garrett needs to get their shit in gear. So much more better and newer technology for the buck can be found. Im not a huge fan of the Vanquish but I own top end machines so im a bit picky, The gofind was garbage they should not be allowed to sell that crap to even a child. That being said Id take a Vanquish over an AT series ANY DAY

Hi, this is Coin mode on the Vanquish that i saved to Custom. I used full sensitivity and low iron bias.

Turn off the iron audio on the AT Pro. That iron audio is annoying as heck when you're trying to block out iron signals. Just my opinion...

Good comparison i have never used a Garrett i love my vanquish 440 but I am thinking about the apex seems like a good machine from

Why on earth would you. Want a apex if you have a vanquish.dont throw your money away .

My best with the Pro was a clad dime at 10", wet Oregon soil, forget the coil not the stock one as I recall....

I have the AT pro and vanquish 440. Done comparison in my 3 year old test garden. My AT pro is much better than the vanquish.
Wow. I have the complete opposite. I had the 540. Deeper and better separation. Could be due to having the low iron bias setting on the 540.
