      Thanks! Let me know how you like it after giving it a workout. I use both depending on where im going. I like the coil selection and style on the Vanquish. The 10” is a nice size for anything and the 8 is perfect for the woods. I have the 6” for the nox but prefer the 8”.

    You can’t go wrong with the 540 with it’s iron separation and iron bias settings. Where I hunt at around old barn sights and buildings this machine is a beast at separation and depth. After watching your videos on the 540 especially the one with the AT Pro on depth that one sealed the deal. When you consider the price and I paid only 149.00 for mine through PayPal cause I had a 20 voucher through PayPal. I had watched relics & rings site and he was having the same problem with the apex in iron nails and coins. It is really disappointing that Garrett would put a machine out like that especially for what they are asking for it cause I was considering on buying one. anyway I really enjoy your site.

      Now that Garrett has acquired Whites I expect a solid counter punch. As far as build quality is concerned those two companies have always been the best. Clearly, minelab has owned the day for many years and myself I run the EQ 800. I will say...give it two years and I believe our homeland duo will punch back very strong.

    Awesome test my friend!!! I enjoy your simple but very effective , common sense approach that you take when testing metal detectors. Not tricky or too complicated, does it pick up desirable targets at decent depth, and can it discriminate between two types of metals . Ferrous and nonferrous in this case. I learn alot from your videos, tests, and hunts. I appreciate you sharing them with us on here. 👍😎👍

    They’ve already had to do serious damage control for this machine making videos to challenge the testing people have shown I think it’s a good machine just better options right now at a more affordable price one thing to remember the apex does have a usb charger and could possibly have data capability aka updates so it could be improved from the comfort of your own home either way I think even they know things have been less then spectacular with its release and I appreciate that you were as professional about it as possible

    Been swinging and digging for 35 years. I held off commenting until I put some serious time on the Apex. I have the Raider coil and the new update. Yes it's a better machine than the Ace or AT line (sometime) As a multi frequency detector it falls short. The Vanquish beats it to death. Its a shallow machine, iron easy confuses the machine, the pin pointer function is all over the place. It will also lock the detector up sometime for about 5 seconds. I do like it's feel and weight. I appreciate Garrett's move into the multi-frequency game, it's about time. But this will not cut it. Cost more than the Vanquish 540 but can't match it. I am by no means anti Garrett. I have Garrett's all the way back to the original Seahunter 500 hanging on my wall. I want to by American but there needs to be a product that can preform.
    Come on Garrett!

    Does anyone find it easier to identify targets with the Garrett Apex over the vanquish 540 since the Apex has a larger target id scale from 0-99 compared to the vanquish -9-40? Sorry if this is a noob question but it seems like the Garrett could give a better target Id since there are more rating numbers to show?

      Even though I am not impressed ,the Apex has a place in metal detecting but I believe its companies claims need to be reviewed along with its price ! The company needs to wake up to itself and start to actually put more effort into engineering something that matches their claims !! The metal detector no doubt can find coins but it clearly doesn't perform as well as some machines !! For me I will be sticking with my Minelab machines. Equinox 800 and Vanquish 540.

No you get more options with the 600 but it is simple and its like running the 600 or the 800 on factory settings. Coming from the AT pro the 540 would be similar to the layout of the controls. I use the 540 more than i do my 800 because i like the coil selection better and use the 10” coil most of the time. The 540 is locked in 5 tones no manual GB and not waterproof. The 600 has adjustable tones, recovery speed and auto or manual GB and waterproof. Performance wise they are right with each other In stock settings.

      Don't forget, without Garrett the waterproof hobby machines like the Nox and Makro simplex wouldn't exist. The AT pro was a decent machine for it's time and still is if you buy one used as a beginner. Is it behind the times? Yes........because it's what 9 years old? Was it behind the times back then? No, it was a flagship, much like the Garrett propointer which was and is still a flagship piece of equipment. As long as sales of those items are still strong, Garrett will be fine. Garrett's only problem is over valuing their equipment but..........if it's selling is it really over value? Who can say.

    • @depthspader8820
      @depthspader8820 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I highly doubt the simplex will outperform the apex, it can't even outperform an ace 400i. You spend all day digging junk with the simplex. All the simplex is is a entry level detector, with a few good features, wireless, rechargeable battery and waterproof, other than that it's just a trash collector with the odd lucky good find.

  • @notrightjohnnydetectingjun8028
    @notrightjohnnydetectingjun8028 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To be fair Garrett machines have a hard time with targets out of the ground how many times with a Garrett have you dug something up and watch it disappear out of the hole. The pin pointer will find it. And it could be a good item but for some reason they just don’t like it on the surface.

  • @jayson8118
    @jayson8118 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know you didn't want to have to keep switching the machines off between comparing but it would have interfered with the tests a bit ! Other than that it was interesting to see how the Vanquish compared to the Apex. There is another guys video on utube and I was watching it . He actually had a test garden and the Vanquish was out performing the Apex. He made a very good point though ; there are videos out there making big claims about the Apex and videos bad mouthing the Vanquish. Its clear now after watching both these videos why these other guys are bad mouthing the Vanquish. Clearly they are trying to get people to buy the Apex . A detector which is clearly not even in the league of the Vanquish !!! Garrett should actually put more effort into their machines rather than using dirty tactics and untested claims about their metal detectors !!

    To be fair, nobody who knows anything about detecting uses a Garrett with iron audio on full time. You just don't do it. Pro zero and that's it! You listen for the squeeks. I don't know why people keep using iron audio in these videos lol. Every machine has some mode or feature nobody ever uses. Iron audio is that feature on the Garretts. Is the apex still a bit underwhelming? Yes......they did a great job on improving build quality and features but just didn't quite get to where it needs to be. But you never use the machine the way people are making these videos. You notch iron out if you want to hear a coin in iron. You don't turn iron audio on lol.
