I've been trying to find out... through research & a email to Minelab. What frequencies does the Vanquish 540 use? Research for Vanquish frequencies ... revealed nothing. My email to Minelab... did. Sorta. But not exactly I don't think. I'll give you my answer I got from ML.;;;; William, Thank you for your email. The frequency range for the Vanquish is the same as Equinox 5khz - 40khz. Vanquish will only run in multi, and as we do with the Equinox, we do not share what frequencies are being run when in multi. Equinox frequencies vary in multi, based on the mode. Coin mode recovery would equal 5 on Equinox, Jewelry would equal a 4, and relic and all metal equals a 2.

37:06 very impressive showing by the Equinox. I've tried this with every detector I have and they can't separate this well even with smaller coils (5 X 10). The fact that it can cleanly pick up the quarter in this situation with a BIG coil is an eye opener. For some people this might not be important but if you hunt super polluted areas like me where old coins can be found, awesome separation is a game changer. Thanks for making this video. I was tempted by the Vanquish initially but this small segment has me aiming for the Nox now.
Just a heads up, it is less chatty if you press on the iron bias/horseshoe /nail button to stop the iron detection. It is all in the online manual. Probably should read before evaluating chattiness.
My whites coinmaster is better detector then this overhyped trash, I regret buying it honestly. @@WeOutHere23 oh yes it does lol...EMI sensitivity on the Nox is horrible. I can take the vanquish in parks with power lines and run it with no interference whatsoever. What you need is a Garrett AT Gold. Just don’t take it anywhere near a saltwater beach. It will outperform any of those machines in this video on dry land or even in dry sand. Separates targets like nobody’s business due to its small 5 x 8 DD coil and hits gold and silver hard! Very very good depth!
First, I enjoyed your video moreso for showing some of the capabilities of the 540, and not so much as the comparison to a higher end detector. However, at 38:26 when you turned the 540 on, the coil was above the ground. Is this normally how you powered it on? Always have the coil touching the ground when turning it on as per the instruction manual. This can definitely affect the performance. And yes, I subscribed and keep the good vids coming! 😊
Hey Merrill , 31:04 looks like a bent corner off an old trunk. I don't think you mentioned what model Minelab Vanquish you are using. The 340 , the 440 , 540, or the 540 with the bigger coil ? If you did I missed it. Bang for the buck , its not a bad little machine. Find a nice ring or two and buy a better machine if one feels the need. Swing it over something good and I'm sure it will let you know. Only down side I see is its not a waterproof machine . Consider all the targets you have dug with the Equinox . How many would have been within the range of the Vanquish? I would guess you would have a high percentage. The biggest challenge is swinging the coil over something good regardless of what machine is attached to that coil . Good review !

My Vanquish 340 can hit nickels at 13 inches solid. Less on other coins though. I have a silver half dollar I want to test it with but can`t find it. I found it while testing a Bounty Hunter machine I got for Christmas 5 years ago.
Im not sure when you powered on the vanquish but it does ground balancing and interference adjustments during power up. So if it is chatty you should power it down and power it back up with the coil on the ground where your searching. Also i have heard the 8 inch coil is way superior for trashy areas like parks. Also i am curious what software version were you using on the vanquish?
The Vanquish 330 is only 200 bucks. That`s a game changer for people who want to be able to hunt saltwater beaches but don`t have a ton of money. I got mine on a damaged box deal for 30 dollars cheaper. It`s amazing at finding coins in a trashy yard. Very fun to use and hits very small targets. Now my Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 is a loaner kif someone wants to go detecting or hunt for something they lost. It also works very well on coins but can`t hit them even half as deep as the Vanquish and it misses more than half the coins around nails and pulltabs. My Vanquish doesn`t miss these. Maybe I got a really good one or something but in coin mode it finds coins accurately besides nails which surprised me. I got a quarter signal but dug a huge nail, but checked the hole with my pinpointer and the quarter was right where it said it was. I`ve tested this too by holding a nail and coins and it signals on the coins.
hey really like your channel and watching you search with the Vanquish, which I have been eyeballing. I think the unidentified bit of metal could have been a slug, a quarter sized cutout of metal that could be attached to a string (maybe through the ear that it had when you dug it up). I saw an older kid use something like that on a cigarette machine when I was fairly young in the late 70's or 80's
I'm looking to upgrade from my 20 year old Sovereign XS-2 Pro. I love the simplicity of this detector. I'm considering the Legend, but man, watching the videos it looks so complicated. I just want a great, simple beach and playground detector.
I think that the sovereign looks complicated with the dials. The vanquish does a ground balance for you when you turn it on. It has adjustments but it really is plug and play.
I was in a super trashy area (Think 100s of Bottle caps scattered ontop of the ground) and discriminated everything below 17 on my vanquish 440 i was able to pull good coin signals and while i was digging found pull tabs in the hole with them so I was very impressed it was able to reach past the pull tabs
I have a vanquish 540 and yes it's great on the beach. But it looks like you have the large coil on. Can you do another video on the vanquish in parks using the aller V8 coil. That will give better seperation. 21:05
It runs GB of zero like the Nox's default. Heard people have been notching 1 and 2 to get rid of some of the iron grumble. Can't expect it to compete with the Nox for half the price.
Hello Merill, How did the Vanquish ground balance? Do you check your holes after removing what you think may have caused the tone in that particular hole? Sometimes when you pop a plug when you have a good signal and then it sounds crappy when it's still in the hole, it probably shifted on edge. Less surface mass equals week non-repeatable tone. I know you already know all this, but sometimes we forget the simplest things, especially switching to different detectors. @ 31:09, you can rig that up to your belt and hang your shovel on it as you detect. Enjoying your videos. Get that box filled. Happy Huntin' _/
Merrill... the way I see it... your excitement level is nowhere near with the Apex or 540 as it was with the Simplex... that makes me happy... because I got the Simplex... because of your excitement levels!! 😁😁😁😁
8in great depth!! try 14in found a 2 in long nail, that s good depth with vanquish 340, turn down sensitivity you do not lose depth worth worrying about.
@MetaldetectingNYC can you explain the best setting for when park hunting and beach hunting with a vanquish 540 please I just got mine today and need help
As far as park hunting goes I always use an 8” coil for separation. The vanquish seems to have some difficulty deciphering multiple targets simultaneously especially iron. The smaller coil drastically helps. Set the coil on the ground, in the area your working, and turn it on. Once u start swinging, increase ur sensitivity until it starts to chatter, then back it off one or two. I like to use coin mode with all notches selected except for the lowest two iron notches. If u get a lot of iron grunts, turn ur iron volume down to 3 or 4. This configuration seems to work for me. Good luck!
I have basically nothing more than mine lab equipment largely vanquish boy you can find a ton of rusty metal lot of people don't realize that rust from steel actually is non-ferrous and there are a lot of ways around it but man it's a tedious process but because of financial restraints and just getting back into the game the vanquish is no joke
You want to turn the sensitivity down so it doesn't do that you're doing it the wrong way sensitivity gets rid of all the other noise that you don't wanna hear you have it way too high
Like the explorer pro 2 fbs, when picking up rubbish, they will sound on the initial pickup, but then when you go over the same target again it ignores it.
I looked at this machine looking to make the jump into multi frequency. This seems like a multi frequency land Star pro. (Pretty limited). Seems like a good starter with little room to grow?
Merrell what mode were you in where the target separation wasn't as good ? I read that the separation is unique in the different modes. Nice rundown ! I'd like to figure out what mode has best separation. I will be picking up one for a backup to the 'nox soon.
Hope everything is going well buddy and your haveing a top weekend sorry I have not been about for some reason youtube had stoped me from comment s was me I turnd something off fixed it so will be haveing a catch up
My vanquish 540 doesn’t know a coins in the ground if there is any other metal around the coin.especially aluminum it sees aluminum before a coin. I have the v12 coil on mine.maybe I got a lemon who knows
hi thanks for the great video.....would help us alot more if u did react to some answors or questions people put here....would be more easy for us to learn from it! have a great day and thanks for the uploads
ok as a newbie to metal detecting, I see how you just dig in to a pile of dirt with your fingers. what about coming across a used needle or razor blade? will the machine alert to that as a possible hit? just wondering. thanks. ps. I enjoyed your video. most helpful as of yet.
If people did their research they'd see minelab says they put the same technology of the Nox into the vanquish thus making it an affordable machine with Nox technology.
I’m gonna be metal detecting Old plantation homes in south Louisiana. So I’m looking for a good deep detector. My price is no higher than 300$. My dad has a 20+ old bounty hunter.
Interested to see your thoughts on the ctx vs the equinox. I checked with support no multi IQ upgrade for the ctx. Not sure if they will release another high end machine.
The Equinox 800 IS a high end machine. I onwed the Etrac for 5 years, Ctx for 5 years until the Equinox was revealed, the Equinox smokes both of them. Faster processor, works great in highly mineralized soils and heavy iron, loves silver. Less bells and whistles, ALOT more detecting power.

The quarter-like artifact you detected is actually the punch-out from a junction box
Good job brother learned a lot and that object you found.. I used to use something like that on my wife.... keep it safe... you know.. peace brother.✌
Congrats for the 7k . Cant wait for the next video . Stay safe
That round metal cutout could be a electrical box knockout plug
You should test the 8in Coil in that messy park
which coil were you using on teh 540 ?
Good hunt really. Spoonage is good. Silver is good.
Hey... congrats on 7,000 subs Merril, I just now noticed that.
It runs GB of zero like the Nox's default. Heard people have been notching 1 and 2 to get rid of some of the iron grumble. Can't expect it to compete with the Nox for half the price.
Great review Merrill!!
Loved the video Merrill! Congratulations on the 7000 subs! Keep swinging brother! 👏
Schade das dieses Video nicht auf Deutsch ist . Habe aber einen großen Teil davon verstanden.tolles Video 👍
I went out again with it and that was reinforced! I had a great day with the simplex!
@@MetalDetectingNYC Cool... now I'm even more happy!! 😁😁
What about gold nuggets Merrill? Please consider putting one in your test garden😊👍✌
8in great depth!! try 14in found a 2 in long nail, that s good depth with vanquish 340, turn down sensitivity you do not lose depth worth worrying about.
Why wasn't the 8 inch coil tested ?
What size coil should I use on the beach with my vanquish in wet sand I think it came with a 10”?
Good luck!
Jumpy id numbers can indicate mixed metals as well.
Thanks for the he demo. Helps make my decision. Cheers! 👍🧐🇺🇸
You want to turn the sensitivity down so it doesn't do that you're doing it the wrong way
sensitivity gets rid of all the other noise that you don't wanna hear you have it way too high
wow! love that ending part with finding quarter between other targets, very helpful info ( ;
You get the separation speed by saving to custom from either coin relic or jewelry mode. Don't know what the default separation speed is for custom
31:07 garden hose storage for side of the house??
is the same location where there are a lot of bottle poles
Like the explorer pro 2 fbs, when picking up rubbish, they will sound on the initial pickup, but then when you go over the same target again it ignores it.
I looked at this machine looking to make the jump into multi frequency. This seems like a multi frequency land Star pro. (Pretty limited). Seems like a good starter with little room to grow?
What settings you have on for the park
Merrell what mode were you in where the target separation wasn't as good ? I read that the separation is unique in the different modes. Nice rundown ! I'd like to figure out what mode has best separation. I will be picking up one for a backup to the 'nox soon.
The weird unknown piece is a corner reinforcement piece from a storage trunk or something like that.
Do you think the vanquish is cheaply made? Someone posted handle cracked after a couple hunts.
You should start doing pinpointer tests
Meu amigo, posso comprar um vanquish 440?
Hope everything is going well buddy and your haveing a top weekend sorry I have not been about for some reason youtube had stoped me from comment s was me I turnd something off fixed it so will be haveing a catch up
My vanquish 540 doesn’t know a coins in the ground if there is any other metal around the coin.especially aluminum it sees aluminum before a coin. I have the v12 coil on mine.maybe I got a lemon who knows
Yes. Separation issue! Agreed.
Well you asked for opinions of "anybody know what this is" and I think I recognized it. It looks to me to be the corner of an old steamer type trunk
New to your channel, love your review.
Which vanquish was it? 340,440,540? Please lmk
You found a lot of coins in very deep soil with the vanquish. Looks good enough for me!
What is minimum depth we can see
At the 31:00,looks like the corner of an old trunk!?!?
Which one do you think I should get
Looking for another back-up detector. Thanks Merrill this really helps make a decision •Richard MDB•
Man on a mission, as Van Halen would say. Looks like with depth, you lose ID/VDI accuracy? But seems like a capable machine otherwise. 👍
So what is the better detector at the park, Vanquish or Simplex?
hi thanks for the great video.....would help us alot more if u did react to some answors or questions people put here....would be more easy for us to learn from it! have a great day and thanks for the uploads
Hello and thank you! I have almost 600 videos now and it’s tough to keep track of every comment. What is your question?
ok as a newbie to metal detecting, I see how you just dig in to a pile of dirt with your fingers. what about coming across a used needle or razor blade? will the machine alert to that as a possible hit? just wondering. thanks. ps. I enjoyed your video. most helpful as of yet.
Good question and that’s why you should wear gloves. I always do. There’s broken glass too.
It`s best to expose yourself to all germs. I go barefoot and step on needles every day.
I understand what you mean by chattery but possibly it may require more time.
35:01 ya it was probably a kid getting over on arcades
If people did their research they'd see minelab says they put the same technology of the Nox into the vanquish thus making it an affordable machine with Nox technology.
the arrangement of the coins ( 37 minutes in) wasnt the same in comparing the 2 detectors.
Great video
Great video!!
So what one is a better buy? The vanquish or the simplix?
I’m gonna be metal detecting Old plantation homes in south Louisiana. So I’m looking for a good deep detector. My price is no higher than 300$. My dad has a 20+ old bounty hunter.
Just picked up 440 at pawn shop for 147$ on my way to some corn fields now
Merrill this reminds me of the nox with large coil!!!! Bad separation!
Coin signal with iron grunts on both sides - bottle cap.
[• @ 31:05 mark, it looks like the edge of a trunk.•]
Interested to see your thoughts on the ctx vs the equinox. I checked with support no multi IQ upgrade for the ctx. Not sure if they will release another high end machine.
The Equinox 800 IS a high end machine. I onwed the Etrac for 5 years, Ctx for 5 years until the Equinox was revealed, the Equinox smokes both of them. Faster processor, works great in highly mineralized soils and heavy iron, loves silver. Less bells and whistles, ALOT more detecting power.
i think the 2nd park is an old dump site. will it pay for itself in a year, probably. definitely better than my garret 400.
