I have a vanquish myself and yes it is very sensitive ,wait till you start hitting gold with it , it does give you different tone when it is gold. Less expensive than nox and you get the same tech.
Just picked up the Apex, and noticed how slow the recovery speed is, only used it once, will be taking it out more. So far of the 5 machines I use it’s my no.2 wet sand detector.
I spent about 700 bucks and bought the Simplex and Vanquish 540 pro pack both.. Simplex kills it on land and Vanquish kills it on the Beach... LOVE IT!!!! Actually in both land and beach the Vanquish kills it in both. Except it likes iron a little too much for my taste.. Even in Low iron bias.. So I tend to stick with the Simplex on land. Of course Vanquish is not water proof so there are give and takes to both machines.. But I have my Nokta multi with new 13 inch coil I still need to try out also.. But I know the multi is a poor performer on salt... Of course if I think about it the money Ive spent on the Beach Hunter 300 $900.00 and broken!! , F75 about $570,00 which I love and have several coils for it. Makro Multi, $600.00, Simplex $250.00, and the Vanquish with small coil about $500. ALOT OF MONEY!!! Knowing what I know know I could have a Minelab Explorer for Beach and a Equinox 800 for both land and beach with all the money Ive spent on machines.... OH WELL!! Live and learn...
i got my first detector last year, a garrett AT Gold. Is great with soil and dry sand, but picked up pretty quick that it just didnt work with salt water, and wet sand. So now i think im going to get the Equinox 800 as i will be more searching on beaches. Enjoyed your video. cheers
The Apex On the fence with this one. I did the update and switched to the Raider coil. The was a noticeable improvement in all environments, two bars down from maximum sensitivity and there's no chatter on North Florida beaches. An ok start for Garrett in the multi frequency game. Hopefully Garrett will step up their game soon. Just ordered the NEL Superfly coil for the Apxe. We shall see? It is no Minelab for sure. You channel is entertaining and informative. Keep up the good work.
Follow up on the Apex. I now love my two Apex machines. Very simple machine to operate but steep learning curve on all the information it's throwing back at you. I talked to a Garrett engineer and got a better understanding of the machine. Love it.
If you could switch between frequencies try each individual frequencies.alway ground balance when switching frequencies and noise cancel.sometimes you van get a better signal on smaller or deeper targets if you dig down where the target is with your foot or scoop.
Love these reviews, was hoping the vanquished would be a good machine, sure seems it right up there with the Nox ( ; I had AT Pro as first expensive machine, was good but sucked at the beaches down at water level, to noisy ) ;
When you understand that the Minelab Technology was developed by a brain box Astrophysisist with sevral PHDs including one in Signal Processing, and that no other brand is, you'll know why the Nox is such a good machine. The tech is light years ahead of the rest.
Until a Minelab goes up against an DEUS I or II at half price with quarterof the features and all of those degrees and credentials fall out of the window to acouple Frenchdudes playing with a hobby ....lol Minelab is legit good though, just had to throw some love to the detectors that made everyonelook like chumps over the last 4-5 years.
Merrill, really enjoyed the video, watched every minute, even with the video locking up on my big screen after each commercial break. You gave me a little more respect for the Vanquish then I had been giving it. Thought it was a step back for Minelab, but I guess the 3 major detector companies have all come out with under $500 detectors and if this features a processor similar to the Nox's then it was worth watching you give it a test! Still not sold on that Garrett Apex, just don't get why they didn't come out with a machine to compete against all the business they're losing to the Nox. And, as usual, the ad libs and comedy was great. ATB Rob ps -- thanks for popping into my livestream this morning- man the whole room lit up when you came in- gave it a real shot of electricity- thank you.
Seems like minelab is clearly leading the race and everybody else is competing for a distant 2nd place... (coming from a garrett fan) I am slowly seeing the light more and more each day.
Merrell I just bought South Coast detecting using a Garrett Apex he was in Maltese and with zero discrimination on the beach and he was having really good success I think you know that I think you need to give it another shot because maybe it was the sand but he was Finding many targets small ones large ones coins junk you name it anyway I think you should come back to it give it another shot
3:34 the barber surf rack tractor is a gold chain, silver necklace, rope, netting fishing string magnet. No gold chain left behind after they are done... But it sure leaves tons of plastic bottle tops behind
I love a reviewer who can laugh at their own mixups and then try it again. So many others would have just blown off the Apex as junk and doubled down on it in their next video, instead of taking the time to learn it.
Finally got some time to watch this before boarding a plane . As always my friend this was a great detailed review with the appreciated humility. Thanks again for making this!
Nice video please tell me which one is best detector for high minerlise black wet seabeach & muddy saltwater & high trashy salt area with great defth. waiting for rply .
Yeah man, you did not go wrong getting an equinox. It is a great detector. I've been doing this for almost 10 years and I have three other machines, a white's surf pi, a Minelab E Trac, a White's DFX, and my 'Nox 800. The E-Trac is a fantastic machine and the 'Nox is right on its heels.
I'd love to hear a review on the Teknetics Delta 4000. I scored one recently that was left on the curb by the trash, surprisingly still works. I'm new to metal detecting, and going to add some of that content to my magnet fishing channel.
ps, and I agree completely- I DO NOT LIKE A CHATTERY machine, ESPECIALLY on the beach- which is ANOTHER reason I love the Nox so much. Even in deep salt water, it's as quiet as a church mouse until it detects a signal.
I love your assessments of different MD BUT as a newbie thinking about upgrading my Detector, I find it more than a bit confusing. not critasing your effort, but causing me to have information digestion :) trying to decide on which one to get. I want one that will do Soil and Sand in the $200 + keep doing what you are doing and perhaps one day I will catch up.
Thank you for that i went from a Garrett 400I a couple of months ago to a Vanquish and it's true what they say silence is golden i'm not saying it's a better Machine but it's working for me cheers
Both of the detector your using are great detectors as is the simplex.Having one that goes underwater is an advantage in the rain and when detecting out in the water.when you pay to go to the river, beach or river you pay to go their I recommend having one that goes completely under water multifreqency.Because they run more stable in most conditions.specialy in wet conditions.if you can't get automatic ground balance get it but learn how to manual ground balance you could get a little more depth.
I have heard there is not much of a difference between the minelab 440 and 540. Unfortunately I can only afford the 440 Thank YOU. i always look forward to your videos. I live in Sacramento, ca
I have a at pro but longed for an 800. someone came up to me with a minelab that they had payed $1200 for and I tried to get it set up for them as they didn't understand anything. It confirmed my hesitation as it turned my brain to mush. Would the Vanquish be better than the pro and is it easier to understand assuming I read the manual? love the cost!
I’ve tried to explain to ppl the vanquish has a slight edge over any detector I’ve had in terms of depth I have black sand magnetic soil in my area an always struggled with depth and non ferrous resolution and id of the machines never found so many small munition relics before I got it like it so much I bought another coil for it
Hey i also suffered from magnetic black wet sand also muddy high minerlise saltwater with high trash so which one you suggest me for better defth.tnx .
Golddust detector mumbai india. Jay the vanquish but idk the Garrett has a data port capability for updates through the charger (micro usb) so it might be better in the future with updates
Golddust detector mumbai india. Jay that’s not a bad choice but the problem is being a pulse induction machine they can’t really discriminate metal maybe with a lot of practice but you would have to be willing to dig almost everything if you don’t wanna miss any gold
What I can't understand, is the old Garretts never used to be "sparky" and chattery. You set the variable sensitivity just at the threshold below falsing, and it was rock solid. I think they lost or sacrificed stability for ultra sensitivity and are the worse for it. With 10" to 12" coils on the old ADS III's and the Groundhog's, there weren't too many areas where we left deep viable targets in the ground...and that was with a single frequency machine! It has to be either coil design or a radical change in circuitry that has changed them into such a noisy machine.
I've had about 70 hours with my apex, paired with the raider coil. And I must say it is chatty, more so on the farm land I detect. It's got a lot of iron and these iron targets often give a random false high tone that makes me stop all the time to double check the signal. Also, I get many random quiet beeps, not enough to register a target ID. This is on MF, I've tried different channels and sensitivities. I just think it's a very chatty machine that struggles with discrimination. Note there are no overhead lines or electric fences. Beach detecting on MF is better. I think I can get used to it, but it is a chatty machine and a bit annoying to use.
Okay man I love your videos, but I'm going to have to call you out on this one... That air depth test that you did with your scoop, of course it was going to get that kind of distance with this much metal mass as you had there. Try that with a ring or a coin-sized Target and see what you get. Not trying to be negative on the detector, just realistic. Any detector will find a soda can or a large metal Target at a couple of feet, it's the small targets that really matter as you know I'm sure. Keep up the great work though, like I said I love you videos!
A lot of that chatter in the hole issue was from his scoop being too close as well. New larger scoop, I think he was keeping it too close to the machine while checking the hole. You have to swing them far away lol. I know because I still make that mistake all the time.
In previous videos you said you want too do 50 hours on a new detector. You didn't do that Merrill. Lets do 25 hours with the Apex..then see if you were wrong again..js...
Just found you and having fun...Also just bought a place by the ocean and look to buy one of these Metal detector. Looking at either the Vanquish 540 or Score Triple. Which would you recommend ? Also looking for used..if possible.
We have had a vanquish we put it on the beach with lots of hot rocks and wouldn’t shut up but the 600 run real fine on the beach with the hot rocks so I’m still waiting for the new apex so I can test it .if it doesn’t like hot rocks or not. The XP deus on the beach with the 9 inch elliptical coil is no good. 600 leaves it behind in my experience
No thanks. I’ll pass on the Apex. Convinced my AT pro will eat that up in a park. And, it’s too crappy for a beach machine. Any machine you have to turn down the sensitivity that much, isn’t made for the beach IMO. And still has that chatter. And like you demonstrated, of you don’t even know if the target’s in your scoop??? You’ll dig half as many targets just because of that. Thanks for sharing, both videos, lol. Love the channel, you’re doing us all a huge service. Minelab is just simply changing the game. Only knock I ever had was their price point. And obviously they’ve come WAY down to the point it’s a no brainer. Really curious to see if you can find a machine that can hang performance wise compared to the equinox, regardless of price. Cheers
Hello I'm Tony from Espanola New Mexico I've already found a gold ring 10 karat gold wedding band about $180 change nickels dimes pennies quarters buttons everything with my vanquish 540 but what I'm really interested is and what I really like about the vanquish 540 is on jewelry mode it'll actually detect gold any size nugget as long as it's large enough if it's the size of a half of a pencil eraser you're definitely going to detect it and find it and if there's gold anywhere in a large vein you're going to detect it but the beep is not a high pitch beep it's more of a nickel beep that you hear like a nickel and it's definitely going to be gold or some type of metal that's what I like about the vanquish 540 it's good for any grounds and detecting
No maximum sensisitivity was your problem.when you put it on maximum sensitivety. It magnifies the signal and might pick up to much black sand or spread the signal outward try different sensitivity levels.multifrequency is better I would start at around 18 or below you have to find that sweet spot.multifquency runs more stable in the wet sand or out in the water better as long as you have the right sensitivity setting maximum setting is to high experiment around half way.and your set to go.
I own this and haven't had any issue with mine but then I ain't a beach hunter and I have been watching videos all over the net and this is actually the first video I seen that said it was bad but to each there own
Hello! i was wondering with Vanquish you bought 340-440-540-540 -ProPack ? Ihave the 540 pro and i like that i take the 12 inches on beaches and large surfaces and the 8 in forest or places wiere a lots of obstacles! God Bless and thank you verymuch i have learn so much with you!!!! Frank from the Deep North ✌
Apex has problems with crashing waves but seems ok in wet sand......it is 1st generation and the problem may lie in the Viper coil......I would check out more videos of users in rough surf....I'm sure Garrett is working on this as we speak.......Vanquish 1 Apex 0 bottom of the 1st.
Newer subscriber just saw the one where you got a ticket. I have been kicked out a few times, written warning once, but never ticketed. Did you successfully fight it Merrill?
MD NYC, I think that it would be fair, if you read the manual, and learn how to use the Apex properly, and then make your decision, I know one person that has the Apex, and did not have all the problems that you had searching in the wet sand, he was using MS setting, and did a Grd/ Bal in the wet sand, you must G/B first.
@@beachdetectingireland3984 I had to go see for myself, went to the beach with one of my friends that has the Apex, after watching him for awhile, and saw that he was getting a lot of faults signals, he was constantly making adjustments>>>> NOT GOOD, I think that I will stick with my Nox 800, MD NYC, please keep those videos coming.
They're in the same price range. The "Ace" Apex line is garrets low to mid range line as well. The outperforming wasn't so cut and dry as in this video. He made a lot of mistakes lol. Like putting the apex on half power for the depth test. Having his big new metal scoop next to the hole while trying to find a target. Tsk tsk tsk. That being said there's no way any multi frequency machine is going to compete with minelab who has a lot more experience with it. So much so that they're on their second version of it. Drag their machines in the water and submerge then......you have a whole other issue. Those Nox's die in huge percentages once they leak. Ats, not so much. Over all the apex is still a huge step up for Garett. They solved a lot of issues the previous machines had. Just not all of them.
Merrell it's been my experience with my grits dr. Graydon parks they have a really good iron grunt for trash Target identification but I haven't seen too many machines that have the best of both worlds now I have several Whites metal DET actors and they're very good in both worlds even the ones that say that can be used in saltwater have some sensitivity issues the best one to date that I've had is my whites surf Pi Pro pulse induction Superior to almost everything with exception of not having any Target identification it's a different animal I'm sure there are some pluses anyway good evaluations take care bud
@@MetalDetectingNYC Merrell really do enjoy your videos but they're fun to go to retaining their instructional and I'm almost envious because we don't have that many places to hunt here where I live in California but anyway good luck with all that bud all the success keep it up
If you're on dry sand only..........not usually an issue. If you hunt wet SALT beaches or salt water then yes, you'll need something better. If you're in fresh water the AT will be totally fine.
Merrill, found another site for you to checkout, an Apex review. NQE Explorers here on TH-cam. He loves it on the beach and seems to know his stuff. You’ll get a lot of pointers..
What's your first impression of the Xtreme scoop? Been thinking of getting one myself. The local beach is full of rocks breaking all my scoops to date, so not to sure of buying such an expensive one, afraid it won't survive all the torture. Thanks Merrill
A scoop on rocks is a no no.Just buy a lady shovel like they have at cenex or agra supply.I use mine for those rocky beaches to not only MD but digging horse clams.I live on Puget Sound so scoops are not real practical.A regular shovel is too big but that little shovel gets to the target or clams with a lot less effort.I go to beaches that most people won't go to dig clams because of the rocks.I get a limit of 7 in less time than the sandy beaches because there are less clams on the easy beaches.lol
Paul Callicoat my local beach is weird it's a sandy beach. The top layer it's about 4 inches of sand then a lawyer of rocks and beneath that it's black sand (rotten smell). All my targets are deep, I've tried a small lady shovel but that doesn't work, just caves back in
@@Thewizard1978 I'd buy a 12 inch x 12 inch stainless steel vent section at a scrapyard to keep the hole from collapsing while you use the shovel.I use one that is 12 inches in diameter x 30 inches to dig geoduck clams. Your sand is only 4 inches over the rocks so you'll have to experiment but good luck and maybe you can get all that treasure that others can't.
I apologize to you because my comment on your last video was not directed to you I know you have a lot on your plate right now But when things settle down for you It would be nice that we go on a hunt ,A course with the Deus. I don't know how you do it .But God bless you and your family Denis
Actually, at 9” i heard a signal with the Apex. Where’s your ears Merrill...but thanks for the video for me🐸. Also Merrill, a technique i use at the beach- weave parachord or string throw the holes super glue on it a little and u have SMALLER HOLES 🕳,what man doesn’t like smaller holes
I have a vanquish myself and yes it is very sensitive ,wait till you start hitting gold with it , it does give you different tone when it is gold. Less expensive than nox and you get the same tech.
Thank you, I just bought my Dad the Minelab for beach prospecting in Florida. I still have a ancient White's 5900 DiPro that gets used once in a while
Just picked up the Apex, and noticed how slow the recovery speed is, only used it once, will be taking it out more. So far of the 5 machines I use it’s my no.2 wet sand detector.

Ive never liked garrets cause they’re noisy. I love minelabs cause they are quiet and stable
In previous videos you said you want too do 50 hours on a new detector. You didn't do that Merrill. Lets do 25 hours with the Apex..then see if you were wrong again..js...
You can do 1000 hours on the apex, it still wont hold a candle to the Vanquish and multi-iq
Buen video, pero no te entendí nada por que no entiendo el ingles, ¿cual resultó mejor? Gracias.
Garrett is following White’s over a cliff. They better come up with something good.
Garrett is coming out with a new detector soon, hopefully it's better than the Apex. Probably won't be very good though.
The Minelab vanquish is also able of updates too!!
Just found you and having fun...Also just bought a place by the ocean and look to buy one of these Metal detector. Looking at either the Vanquish 540 or Score Triple. Which would you recommend ? Also looking for used..if possible.
Great honest evaluations. Thanks
Garrett used to be the leader with ace and atpro. Now minelab has made more affordable machines Garrett will lose customers
Try the 20 hz frequency just for gold I think in the Apex.
Love the new camera!
Interesting , Glad I got the vanquish 440 i think its the best price FOR A GOOD MACHINE¡¡
Top review on the apex so glad I never got it so happy
I'll stick to my Nox600 and probably get the Vanquish 540 as a back up.
don't do it the Vanquish 540 was a very big dissapointment the simplex is a better choice and half the price of the pro pack
@@michaelklinge1857 Lol you are so wrong.
Cheers
Between minelab safari, equinox and vanquish what would you choose for beach hunting?
I was on the waiting list for the Apex and I think I'm going to cancel
No maximum sensisitivity was your problem.when you put it on maximum sensitivety. It magnifies the signal and might pick up to much black sand or spread the signal outward try different sensitivity levels.multifrequency is better I would start at around 18 or below you have to find that sweet spot.multifquency runs more stable in the wet sand or out in the water better as long as you have the right sensitivity setting maximum setting is to high experiment around half way.and your set to go.
Put a magnet on the bottom on your scoop to pick up iron targets or metal save your self some digging.
I own this and haven't had any issue with mine but then I ain't a beach hunter and I have been watching videos all over the net and this is actually the first video I seen that said it was bad but to each there own
They are very proud of those scoops. Let me tell you.
You shouldn’t do reviews until you know the detectors much better than you do
Ease of first time use is a measure he is using. also the Garrett didn't come with full manual
A lot of user manuals are online now to reduce paper usage it's more environmentally friendly apparently
@@alanmac8807 , environmental friendly? Great but companies don't care, online manual is cheaper, prior.
The Apex has a max of 6 inches on depth with a penny or dime and if its on end forget getting it at all. Its like using an Ace 400 with 5x8 coil.
wrongggg!!
Hello! i was wondering with Vanquish you bought 340-440-540-540 -ProPack ? Ihave the 540 pro and i like that i take the 12 inches on beaches and large surfaces and the 8 in forest or places wiere a lots of obstacles! God Bless and thank you verymuch i have learn so much with you!!!! Frank from the Deep North ✌
A great Video ...But still I am Minelab all the way..The Apex Still does not impress me enough to add to the collection of detectors I have..
Garrett has fallen behind as for stability. Other machines are more quiet
Which device is better?
my Fisher CZ21 will pick a quarter up at 1 1/2 ft - hopefully will be able to show you
Apex has problems with crashing waves but seems ok in wet sand......it is 1st generation and the problem may lie in the Viper coil......I would check out more videos of users in rough surf....I'm sure Garrett is working on this as we speak.......Vanquish 1 Apex 0 bottom of the 1st.
Newer subscriber just saw the one where you got a ticket. I have been kicked out a few times, written warning once, but never ticketed. Did you successfully fight it Merrill?
ola sou do Brasil, qual sua opinião sobre o APEX e se ele var receber atualização
I wish the Vanquish came in black.
Permanent marker. 😊
Have you run the Simplex on 0 GB on the beach yet??
Sure have. Works much better. Still not of same caliber as a multi frequency though on the beach. Still very good though!
😂😂😂
@@beachdetectingireland3984 I had to go see for myself, went to the beach with one of my friends that has the Apex, after watching him for awhile, and saw that he was getting a lot of faults signals, he was constantly making adjustments>>>> NOT GOOD, I think that I will stick with my Nox 800, MD NYC, please keep those videos coming.
4:25 we know how he lost his front teeth lol.
Watch as Minelab's cheapest metal detector outperforms Garrett's Apex.
I bought the 540 for the misses 👍
Привет, товарищ! РусHello, comrade! Russian search man, wishes you a valuable find! Good to you! Come in and visit)
Thanks Ernest!
@@MetalDetectingNYC Merrell really do enjoy your videos but they're fun to go to retaining their instructional and I'm almost envious because we don't have that many places to hunt here where I live in California but anyway good luck with all that bud all the success keep it up
Can you put the 400i garrett against the simplex please
Damn I just bought the at pro but I'm not a beach hunter I'll have to buy a beach detector so I'm guessing I should get a equinox for the beach
If you're on dry sand only..........not usually an issue. If you hunt wet SALT beaches or salt water then yes, you'll need something better. If you're in fresh water the AT will be totally fine.
@@MrBottlecapBill If you like vintage technology yes.
The apex seems to be a steal for the price tag
Which Vanquish are you using? 540?
It was 540
Love the performance from Minelab, hate their building quality.
Merrill appreciate all the time you take for these reviews, so looking forward to your website. •Richard MDB•
Apex disappoint for me,I go tesoro mojave and Turkey with Simplex.thx Merrell
You are showing that apex is not a good detector? It's better equinox? Why for you apex is not good? Explain to all thanks
بالاخره کدومش بهتره......آیا کسی اپکس رو تست کرده؟؟؟😢😮
From all the tests, reviews & comparisons I've seen, the Vanquish seems to be a lot better.
Vanquisc superior class !!!! Minelab 500 dollar produced thery mostruose MD ! apex chattering impossible ! 💪💪💪👍👍
