    I replaced the OEM shocks on my 2019 street glide in January 2023 with standard Progressive 944s. After installation, I attempted to adjust the preload for my weight of 165 plus pounds without success. With the springs opened as far as possible, when I sat in the saddle, the shocks didn't compress a bit. Called Progressive, told them my problem and they suggested I put 10-20 pound weights in my saddlebags. Wtf...you gotta be shitting me. Been riding that stiff back suspension since then. Two weeks ago I found myself riding an extremely rutty, pot holed country road in Mendocino County, CA. The bike, on several occasions became almost uncontrollable. Those shocks are history. I'm replacing them now!

    I had the same problem with 944 and heavy springs, harsh ride. Normally two up, I’m 225, wife “guessing” 180 ish. Sometimes have trailer and three bags on trips. My mistake was “thinking” keeping spring soft was better, wrong thinking. That only gave 1” of travel on piston rod, no dust on rod or bumper confirmed it was bottoming out. Adjusted them full tight, all threads showing. Now have around 2-1/2” of piston rod travel allowing shock to travel farther and absorb bumps and shocks. Totality different ride now. You have to understand “shock travel”, if the spring adjustment doesn’t allow any travel, there’s no way “ANY” shock will absorb bumps. It has to have travel for the hydraulic dampening to do its job.

      Always avoid Heavy Duty springs on any shock. These shocks have limited adjustment, but come stiff. My bike rides like a caddy with 2 up or single on standard springs. Benefit of these 944’s are the -1 setup. Same travel of a 13” shock, with a 12” setup, which makes it inherently stiff.

    My Progressive 944 s are awesome! 07 Road King. I got them for $599 flat 3 years ago brand new. Haven't had to adjust them since I first set them up. Since I installed them though the front forks need to be upgraded.

    Put Fox rear shocks and legends on front of my 07 Electra Glide and love ‘em. Would have done Fox on front fork but Fox no longer makes them for my year model.

    I have had the 944s for 8 years now. I have the HDs for my weight and two up. I also have the mono tubes up front. The thing rides likes it's on rails. I corner without the wobble like stock. Huge upgrade. The thing I see here, is you only changed the rear. The front stock fork setup is way too soft and the rear too stiff. If you add anything to the rear without doing the front, this is how it feels. The two fight each other, they are not a balanced system. If you have to change one, it should be the front so you better Match the rear. You will find a whole new ride when you do both. I have several friends that have done it and we all love the combo. I see this time and time again. People want to change the rear only then complain.

    Great post, I learned that the Harley needs a lot of upgrades. I love mines too, I put a Bike in a Bike in order to make it great. However I am running the Progressive 412s and they are really good. I’m 200lb rider on a Road Glide, and the 412s have notch settings, they do the job well. I can imagine the 944s are too stiff because the 412s can get too stiff if im solo and I am at any setting above the 2nd notch (it has 4 total) but when my wife rides, the 3rd notch is needed. If anyone reads this, more expensive is not always better so I would try the 412s however I am super interested in this Super Shock from your video. Next you will be spending 2k on Wilbur’s or 1k on Legends. Also, the front springs are needed. I changed my springs to Progressive and a much better ride. I wasn’t aware of the Shock they can install so I will be planning that on my next set of forks. But personally my Progressives made a huge difference on my bike. However the springs Harley put in the forks are garbage. Progressive is much better quality.

      I am changing my front forks to progressive springs and we are the same weight. How do u like the rear 412s? What about riding 2 up and 400lbs total weight? 412s or 944?

    • @tscreez490
      @tscreez490 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@onishagill4406 I wouldn’t know, I heard the 944s are stiff but if you are adding that much weight on a regular, it might be good. I gave my 412s away to a friend. They are and were great shocks. With the adjustments I found the last adjustment to stiff but with 400lbs I am not sure if they are rated for that. I usually road with 2 up and an extra 75lbs.

    This is the mystery of the internet...
    I have the heavy duty 944s. I also bought the front suspension kit. I'm 250 and sometimes travel packed with camping gear and luggage.
    I absolutely LOVE mine and am thrilled that I got the front and back upgraded for the price of only the rear Legends or Ohlins

      These Progressives were a downgrade for me, my spine isn't a spring like it was in my 20s. I sold these to a local guy that had the heavy duty version, he couldn't stand the heavy duty so these were slightly better than what he had.

    • @carnut7615
      @carnut7615  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The new Super shox have no problem. The angle made zero difference in the travel etc. The Progressives did not use the rel8catiin bracket, they went straight to the original mounts.

    My 2013 Street Glide has the worst ride of any Harley I've ever owned. There are now some local roads I avoid as it's just a miserable experience on anything other than the most perfect road surface. How did they manage to go backwards with the bagger's development? The previous air shocks weren't great but they were a damned sight better than this asymmetric kit.

  • @ardyrides834

    The relocation/lowering bracket appears to be needed for clearance between the coil spring and saddlebag. Just my guess.
    I had 1" lowering blocks on the rear of my 2012 StreetGlide for several years with no problems.

    • @ronmaturo7063
      @ronmaturo7063 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The relocation block is for the use of longer shocks but retaining the same ride height, I believe the bike comes with 13” the box says 14” so he gains 1” travel with same ride height.

    Everyone who rides needs feedback like this so thanks for the video. I'm surprised to hear that 944's are so awful because they're supposed to be so great. My '09 Sportster OEM rear shocks were absolute garbage. After a few years, the ride was so unbearable that I found myself taking the car on days when I should've been riding. After watching a lot of YT videos and reading all the comments, I bought Progressive Suspension 412-4064C in the 12.5" length and standard spring. The difference is night & day and now the ride is super nice. Now I enjoy my rides and never miss a chance to take the bike out.

    • @carnut7615
      @carnut7615  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, Harley dealers around me actually sell progressives, I don't understand it, they are basically saying when you buy a new bike from us your ride is going to suck so we offer some aftermarket shocks for an extra 900 bucks that suck just a little less. The only good thing is no air pump to deal with. If I didn't accidently tip my oem shocks over and let them drain out next to my toolbox I would have just put them back on.

      I found zero difference in handling of the bike with all four sets I've had on. If someone's bike is handling like crap they better check their neck, swing arm bearings, and tires, unless the shocks are completely worn out junk they aren't going to change the dynamics of handling to a noticeable difference. I've had about 16 Harleys over the years and though I loved my old shovelheads these newer bikes are so much better for ridability.
