    Delboy helped me get my Bonneville suspension dialed in about 10 years ago. Now I have a Street Glide and thought for sure the rear shocks were frozen, only to come across this video. Delboy does it again. Off to ebay. Thanks brother!

    I bought my 2020 SGS in early July and with camping gear the stock shocks worked fine on the right setting. I noticed how harsh the ride was riding solo though and have been looking at upgrades. All are way out of my budget right now. Anyway fast forward to now (Sep) and having watched your vlog I thought I would try the ebay option. What a fantastic result. I got 13" ex Sportster shocks for £40 and installed them on the softest setting of 3 notches, the ride height was just as you described with 1" of sag. Im about 220lbs so they did bottom out on large ruts or speed bumps, but after changing to the middle of the 3 setting these shocks do the trick 100%. Youve probably saved me £1000 as I was going to pull the trigger on some Legend Revo's after saving up the dosh.....thank you so much for yet another top tip sir. Love the channel, been subscribed since I got my first bike, an Iron 883 back in 2016, thanks again

    I literally just swapped my ultra limited rear shocks out for some old ikon shocks off an old sportster just prior to seeing your video.
    They are a 12” shock, inch shorter than stock ultra shock, but the ride is just so much smoother. For the price of old shocks sitting in shed, well worth the spanner time. 👍

    Did this to my 05 Electra glide. Rear tire pressure set at 40psi. The ride was way better. Ordered some more Sportster shocks for my 22 Street Glide. I refuse to pay $1 k for shocks. Thanks Del!

    Just put Sportster 13-inch shocks on my 14 Street Glide can't wait to go for a ride and see how this works out, but can tell just by sitting on it I think it will be fine! Thanks, it was your video that took me that direction! Ride safe my brother down under!

    Just found some Sportster 5 position shocks on my EGC. Much cheaper alternative. Took it around the block and did some adjusting on the fly. Feels pretty good so far. Removed the air ride shocks. The right rear shock apparently wasn’t holding air. Ride was pretty bumpy. Thanks for showing us this.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's great news, glad it's worked out for you, it always needs a little adjustment as it beds in, but it's way more reliable than the air ride...as you've found.

    Hey Del just to update you on the Drag Specialties 11 1/2in rear shocks I swapped out for the OEM 12in original 2017 Street Glide shocks. Had the bulk of the riding season on them and I`m thrilled with the ride they give the bike. Thanks to your video I`m a happy camper. FYI Cheers!😁

    Good tip! I actually just upgraded my Dyna to Legend Revo A shocks, it's life changing! Now the seat doesn't slap my but going down the dirt roads. One problem I had is that Legend recommends a 13 inch shock instead of a 12 inch shock. When you sit on the bike it's the same height as the stock shocks, but when you get off it raises the bike up an extra inch. The problem was that the bike felt like it was going to fall over on the kickstand because of the steeper lean angle. So I bought a kickstand that was one inch longer, then the problem was that the kickstand in the up position rested against my plastic belt guard, not safe at all. So I had to buy a custom kickstand bumper. Didn't seem like that bumper was very secure on the bike so I glued it on with silicone sealant. Now my bike is perfect, didn't expect to have the kickstand problems though, something to keep in mind... Next on my list is replacing the rear engine mount, hopefully that new kickstand bumper doesn't get in the way LOL!

    Great budget idea put to use. I have a 2016 Street Glide Special road like the rear shocks were seized. Not wanting to dump a grand on a set of rear shocks I found a set of OEM new take offs from a 2000 883 with 13" shocks like new for $65. I weigh 230 and set the shocks on middle setting...HOLY ......!!!!! I am very pleased with it, Thank you for the tip

    Coincident;y, this is exactly what I'm doing on my "new" 2007 Electra Glide Standard I just bought few hours ago. I discarded the air shocks and I'm replacing them with Sportster shocks that I already have at hand. I concur with this gentlemen statement, the vendors are selling us over sprung shock thinking that it'll be installed on a train !!!!.

    Good morning Del, great to see you smiling good Sir. Great idea, did this on my old Sporty with Dyna shocks. Now my 2002 Night Train has Progressive 422’s in the rear which are adjustable and replaced the front with Monotubes. While the Monotubes are a thousand times better they’re just a c hair on the stiff side so if I’m in a bumpy corner I get a bit of deflection but still better than stock with heavy oil. I’ve thought about Ohlïns or Legends but have read that they’re a bit too stiff as well and really aren’t worth the extra 3g’s for street riding. We’ll see, gonna replace my built 95ci with a 117 or 124 and go from there this winter.
    Now that business is out of the way let me tell you how wonderful it is to see you working again. We take take advantage of our short time here and it’s moments like this when you realize the massive void in our world when you’re not here, honestly, no bs. Time and time again you give and give, don’t complain and expect nothing in return. This world needs more people like you in it Del but then again, you’re not so easily replaced as you cast quite a big shadow. I’m extremely grateful to have people in my life like you and Penny, as for when I watch TH-cam, I’m always looking forward to Delboy’s. No matter what happens from here on out you’ve carved your place in history as one of the most creative, kindest and caring innovators of this century. Many will try but there will never be another Delboy’s as you’re a pillar in the motorcycle community. Thanks for just being you. 🍻

    Hi Kevin I hope this message finds you well, Update on shock installation. I actually couldn`t find a decent pair of OEM 13in. Sportster shocks locally. So I purchased 13in. Drag Specialties Sportster version. After the install they had fairly decent sag but raised my 2017 Street Glide 1in. higher. Not what I was looking for so I purchased the Drag Specialties 11 1/2in same series shock for Sportsters Low. Installed them this afternoon and test drove the bike this evening. I worried they might bottom out but not even once and I made the loop around some rough roads. I would say the ride is 80% better and the 11 1/2in lowered the bike to 8 3/4in measurement from the concrete to the lowest point on the rear fender when the bike is on the kickstand. So I`m very happy now with a better ride and more feet on the ground. If I had not viewed your video who knows what expense I would have been into so thanks for that. I hope we can chat again at some point. Cheers gunner

      Hi buddy, ... the name's Del, not Kevin btw! ...Am really glad this worked for you, it's a great cheap fix for a ridiculous problem that the factory should hold their hands up to... the OEM shocks simply don't work at all unless the rider's 400lbs, or carrying concrete slabs in the bags!... hardly conducive to good handling on a bike they market as a 'good handling bike'... anyway, I love your straightforward initiative when you couldn't find some old ones, you have the benefit of brand new shocks with no wear and as you said, a bike that now works for you far better! Thanks for your feedback buddy.

    If I’m not mistaken those come with 12 inch shocks which will give a stiffer ride. My 2014 Ultra Limited had 13 inch stock air shocks which sucked. I switched to the 13 inch Harley Davidson premium hand adjustable shocks and couldn’t be happier.

    Good afternoon Del installed 13 inch shocks from a 2000 Dyna - getting a better ride but the shocks make a little "Biff" sound when going over a bump. So I loaded them to the second lightest setting but still getting a Biff sound. I don`t know if they are tired shocks or bottoming out. Not much of current years Sportster shocks around here only old shit - but I`ll keep looking. Cheers Mate! gunner

      Take a close look at the springs and see if they're curved and touching the damper tube.. that may be the source of the noise.! Otherwise maybe look for some older or better quality ones and that should improve it!

    • @Moonfleet41

    Good idea. However, what happens when you do actually load the bike down with luggage and a passenger?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If your bike bottoms out at that point, then that's a sure sign you need to keep the standard factory shocks... if you're going this route, it's because you load your bike light, if you load your bike heavy, you need to go the factory route, but if you do both, then you need air ride!

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They need to be 330mm, so they sag to 300mm off the jack then you have identical ride height. as i said in the video mate !

  • @m.f.m.67
    @m.f.m.67 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A great idea. Like you, I only weigh about 150 lbs, and my 23 Street Glide rides like a lumber wagon! Unfortunately, the Sportster has been made for 50 plus years in dozens of variations with different ride heights and rear shocks. There are a Zillion "Harley" Sportster shocks on Ebay. Long, short, and everything in between. Some OEM, most are not (Chinese knock-offs) Without a part number, I wouldn't know where to begin to get the correct shocks. This isn't any help.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OK, i get what you're saying, but it's actually not critical down top a part number.. almost every sportster had the same shocks other then different heights.. these were from a 2008 Sportster 883R, and any shock that is 330mm from eye to eye will do the job.
