LG G5 vs Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and S7 | Pocketnow

  • When it comes to choosing the right smartphone this year, companies like Samsung and LG could not have made it more complicated.
    Samsung and LG are both in very different stages with their respective flagship offerings. Last year Samsung was experimenting with metal and glass on the Galaxy S6, and LG decided to play it safe with the G4. Today the tables have turned. Samsung has now decided to refine what it started, while LG has decided to boldly go where no smartphone has gone in a while. As a result we’re left with a very difficult comparison since one product is naturally at a better stage than the other.
    Both the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are the result of a more mature Samsung. The company has acknowledged that looks aren’t everything, and has launched a new line-up of flagships that match good looks with expandability. By contrast, the G5 is the result of a more daring LG. The company knows that power users want a phone without compromise, and the G5 intends to solve these needs in a very creative way.

    Finally got the G5 today and damn it's was like love at first sight (the gold version). Its very unique in my opinion! I had the G2 (still a beast phone) as my first android mobile then after two years i upgraded to the G4 then after having it a few months i decided to try the Nexus 6P just to try it. There's nothing wrong with the 6P actually i loved it but a manual mode on the camera is a must for me. It was kinda hard to choose between the V10 and G5 but i rather have the wideangle shooter on the G5 because it really take some awesome photos! I'm glad i choosed the G5 :D

    I am so sick and tired of some people out there. Most of the reviews about the LG G5 are just complete garbage"the power button is flimsy", " the G5 is rough around the edges, "the G5 was a rushed product and needs refinement". I got my LG G5 yesterday and I didn't see none of that. Instead, I got a bad ass smartphone. Great build, and yes, I love the way it looks, accurate color reproduction, an insanely fast fingerprint scanner and probably the best cameras out there on a smartphone. I have no idea what the hell all those bloggers and whatnot are complaining about the G5.
    I rather have a G5 (which is running smooth by the way) than a fingerprint-magnet, amoled-eyesight-killer of a smartphone that are those new Samsung Galaxy S series. Sorry, but I just don't see none of those defects that are being mentioned everywhere.

      Bro, I'm about to cancel my order and get a G5 I have come to realize that people are just fanboys of certain phones so they diss other phones just because, it's depressing. I was looking at a Moto Z review and they all just have created an echo chamber of the same comments. Samsung has done a great job of brainwashing people with advertising. I think they their fanboys maybe worst than Apple at least Iphones don't have direct competition, Samsung does and people call it superior when it doesn't offer 1 thing I believe that is leading all other smartphones, well I take that back they have the most intrusive skin in touchwiz, anyway thanks for the extra push I needed. How is the battery life, do they have a battery pack module or extender?

    After having experience with both Galaxy devices and G devices, I'd have to go with the G5 on this one....the removable battery is a HUGE selling point and the wide angle lens on the camera is an advantage on the G5. Not having an app drawer kinda sucks but that's an easy fix by downloading a different launcher which is something I typically do on Android devices anyway

    • @yoassgoinhateme
      @yoassgoinhateme 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Replaceable battery is a huge selling point.? Really. C'mon if it mattered that much to the average user wouldn't you think companies like Apple, samsung and sony would have phones with replaceable batteries.? Lg's R&D has nothing on Apple and samsung R&D. It's obviously not a huge selling point for smartphone buyers, considering that the iPhone never had replaceable batteries but still sold millions of phones all over the world, and samsung selling 2x the amount of galaxies then lg did with thier last flagship that had a replaceable battery.
      Having a phone that has a battery that last well over a day with fast charging makes more sense to the average buyer.

      LG is also becoming very popular. To me I want a removable battery despite having a huge battery because it won't be enough .Fast charging and removable battery is a great combination for extremely heavy users like me.It won't help to sell more but it will be a great advantage for power hungry users.

    • @DvdXploitr
      @DvdXploitr 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      obviously battery life is an issue because those extended battery cases from companies like Mophie are selling. Even Apple knows the batteries aren't big enough on their devices so they released the Apple Battery Pack. So, would you rather pay $50+ for a bulky case that adds an extra battery? Or have the ability to swap out the battery on the fly? With removable batteries, you have the option to go without a case or the option to use whatever case you really want rather than going with the ones that add a big hump that you may not be totally happy with but you deal with it because it adds battery life. Also, i've had phones that didn't have "user replaceable batteries" and the batteries go bad.....so what do I have to do? Take the device apart and rip the battery out to replace it. So yes, you can replace batteries on devices that aren't meant to be replaced, but it's a hassle. They can go bad....they could be defective. I did replace a battery on one of my phones that I had to take apart and when I put the new one in, it didn't work....it was a defective battery, so I had to take it apart, exchange the battery and do it again. Would have been so much easier to just take the back off and pop a battery in rather than taking the whole device apart....

    • @doomslayer5191

    lol, how do you say the vid stablization is on par with each, all the while the g5 is shaking all over the place, and the s7 is very steady? lol. please go back and look at your own video. the s7's camera is heads and shoulders better than the g5's, other than the wide angle crap. but that's what my go pro is for. and with the gopro, i carry around less crap than the g5 modules. the modular design of the g5 is good for ONLY one thing, the spare battery. i give them that. but other than that, it is useless. and there are so many things that the s7 runs circles around the g5, which are much more important than a wide angle lens.yeah, i want to stuff my pockets with phone modules... remember it's a phone! i don't know, i might have changed my mind about this video.

      +aztekkthundergod oh i don't know, how about water proofing? How about s faster interphase? How about a better design, and more beautifully sculpted? And you are wrong about call quality, checked it with two coworkers yesterday. How about the edge features, not just the convenience and speed of the software, but the beauty of the screen dropping of the edge, instead of the g5's big bezzles? And don't belittle having a much better screen, as that is a gigantic difference. After all, everything we do pretty much comes through the screen. How about the multi screen functions? They are awesome on the s7e! How about much better memory management? I could do this all day. My intent was not to Dog the g5. It was simply to say the s7e is just much better. The G5 is s good phone. Just like the Nissan altima is a good car. But if you try to compare it to a Tesla model S, I'd attack that statement as well.

The Interphase uses only 1 core of the phone maybe and the single core test says that the LG G5 is much better than the S7. i can not say that is a better design okey maybe it Looks better but i would rather have a phone which is not so Mainstream and brokes if it falls down one time. the Edge Features are even more useless then the water proof Feature... and the Screen of the S7 edge has his Advantages but the G5 does have Advantages too so i Thing the Screens are the same you cant tell any difference or do you see some Pixels ? i dont think so. a better Memory managment ? Samsung dont even have SD Cards on the S6 so pls dont tell me something about Memory LG is doing this since the G2. so ^^

      Agreed with vid stabilization, the video stabilization to both products are really different. Samsung S7 wins video stabilization, no lie. It's all shaky for the G5 and smooth for the S7, you can't argue with that. It's all in the video.

    • @AquaStevae

      +Gimme thatshit first, we're talking about the s7/s7e, not the s6. Second, if you are so stupid to think going swimming is the only time water proofing is relevant, then you're a bigger dumbass than i was giving you credit for being. How about getting caught in the rain, and needing Google maps, waze or some other needed nav app?? What about dropping it in water accidentally, you moron??? Waterproofing is a big reason i bought this phone, because have had an iphone die because of rain. Also, if you can't see how ridiculously dull the g5 is next to the s7, then your idiot status gets yet another bump up in rating. I have put my s7e against my friends g5's, and their's always stumbled on slower than mine. So yes, the s7 is much faster. You sound like you're a little kid, who knows nothing. So I'm done teaching you...

    Great comparison. If G5 managed to pull water proofing and stereo speakers off as well as a larger stock battery and they made the switch to Amoled, they'd have had a HUGE win this round. For now however, I feel great about my S7 Edge. We'll see what the HTC 10 and the next Nexus bring to the table if anything.

    Image stabilization is on par even on side by side shot with the s7? Did you see how the LG was shaking like a leaf and s7 was smooth af? Why u lying? Also, the night shots were horrible on the LG. Street lights were burned out. On the s7 it looked really good. So in short, LG camera sucks, s7 still the king. Lolz..! G5 crappy build quality, only two friends attachment with no plans from lg two make more, more susceptible to water and dust damage because of the modular design, ui is still a mess more so now with us G5's not being able to enable app tray (something that a lot of Android users love about Android).
    S7 edge is clearly the winner here. Beautiful design, much better ui, battery that easily lasts a whole day and then some for most users, ip68 water and dust resistant, super fast auto focus, much better ois. And finally that display..! I mean Samsung has the best display of any smartphone, color brightness and contrast is untouchable. It can get bright enough to see in direct sunlight and really dim in dark rooms.

    I own the G5 and if you watch any videos the speaker is twice as loud easily. Screen does fine in daylight, gets really bright. USB type, removable battery...what kills a battery? Charing it over and over again, and the faster you charge it the faster you shorten its lifespan. Curious to see how long these galaxy s7s batteries can hang with all that fast charging...only time will tell.

    One thing I have noticed that non of the reviewers mention about the display brightness is that the LG G5 will boost its brightness in bright light like in direct sunlight. You can see it happen if you watch for the change when you go outside for example. It would be nice to be able to set it to this max brightness manually but I reckon LG have reasons like battery life and or heat for not doing so.
