  • On one corner we have one of the most powerful Android smartphones of the year, and in the other we have Apple's best iPhone ever, or so they say. This comparison is odd in its own way since LG is better known for their intense competition with Samsung, and not Apple. These devices are completely different in absolutely everything. Still, both sport the best cameras of their respective platforms, the best internals, and both even push the bar of design in their own unique way. Which of these devices is better suited for your needs? Let's find out in our iPhone 5S vs LG G2 comparison video.

    God, I remember watching this back in 2013 as a kid, desperately wanting one of these for Christmas to replace my ancient iPhone 3GS. Amazing to see how far we’ve come in a decade from IPS displays and 8MP cameras to Super AMOLED 120Hz screens and 4K shooters

    I just got an iPhone and i'm already really missing Android. Most of the people who switch from Android to iPhone say that they're never turning back, but I wanna turn back now :(

      It's just way too small. I can't have any smaller than a 5" screen for a smartphone because I have big hands so typing and touching apps or websites is difficult on a small 4" screen that the shitty iphone has. I have t-mobile so I have to pay full price to upgrade so I gotta stick with my galaxy S3 and there's no phone that's worth upgrading to yet that's affordable. Might switch to sprint so I can get a free G2 and just sell my S3 for $200 or so.

      ***** The Nexus 5 is affordable and worth upgrading in my opinion, I came from a GSM Galaxy Nexus and absolutely love it. Oh and I'd stay on T-Mobile, their speeds are much better.

      fuzzgrumpy its just not big enough to upgrade, same size as my s3 and i want bigger, at least the size of the note 2.

      T-mobile paid 2.5 billion dollars to share their network so by the end of this year all 2g areas will be 4g. Then will it suck? Not for $50 a month vs verizon being $110.

    Well I have both the iPhone 5S and the LG G2 and I can honestly say that since the update of the G2, it has been on top. Everything runs smoother, the keyboard no longer twitches out, the battery life lasts even longer now (didn't think that was possible), and the overall performance pulls away from the 5S in comparable apps. The wife loves using the 5S but whenever I find her sitting down browsing the web for some clothes, she always seems to pick up my G2 instead of the 5S. She says that the larger screen helps with the viewing and the 5S dies too quickly to get much further than a few pages after she's done (usually 3-4 hours of browsing).
    So my winner would have to be the LG G2 out of this little battle. Though I'd love to try out the Note 3 and see how that compares.

      The battle between the iPhone and Lg G2 was quite obvious who'd win. But Note 3.... This is going to be a challenge.

      reshi pn I can agree to that. I've also noticed that the 3DMark scores were almost the same, only about 100 points better out of the G3 over the G2 with a 15k'ish score from the phone.

      My 5s still runs smoothly in 2020 with ios12 (slow, but smooth and no lag) and can run every app available on the app store with no problem.
      What about the lg tho?? Is it still good going in 2021?

      There's also that iPhone 5s is 600€ and Lg G2 is 300€ in my country. Who would choose the iPhone with double the price?

    • @LightInTheNight1337
      @LightInTheNight1337 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mikko Haavisto That goes both ways. If you bought both phones when they were released you would get more for 5s if you wanted to sell it(which isn't even necessary because 5s is still better than most android phones and it's still the best phone for one handed use)

    • @MikkoHaavisto1
      @MikkoHaavisto1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      LightInTheNight1337 I would never buy a phone when it's released, because you get a lot better value for money with one year old flagships. That's also one reason why I would never buy an iPhone, they're never good value for money, because they don't sell old iPhones with competitive pricing.
      I also think that Sony z3 compact is the best phone if you like small screens. A lot better battery life and water/dust proofness are some examples why it's better than 5s.

    • @LightInTheNight1337
      @LightInTheNight1337 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mikko Haavisto So you buy Android phones because they are cheaper. I can understand that but I use my phone a lot and small things matter(better optimized apps, better camera performance, better physical design etc.). Also, waterproofness doesn't work for a lot of users which is really shitty of Sony because they are promoting their phone as 'waterproof'. Overheating issue is still there too.

    A friend of mines was an iPhone guy, I never heard any complaints from him about his G2, not in the launcher, or anything. He basically said it's not hard to use, even though it has alot of features. I wouldn't call that LG launcher unreliable, it feels faster than using the Touchwiz launcher on the Note 3

    I am watching this video today because i bought my 5s yesterday. As i work as a retailer i was able to get the 5s for 411 US dollars, with a dealer plan for 50 US dollars a month. 1 year subscription. I was going back and forth between the LG G2 and iPhone 5s, as the G2 would have been 100 US dollars, and same 50 per month. But in the end i went for the 5s, as i have always had iPhones since i was young, and basically my whole day is working around apple stuff. Mac, apple TV, iPhone and all the cables and everything. I admit the G2 is impressive, but for MY use, its too big, and i am VERY pleased with the 5s :) (Not an apple fanboy, just like the design and capabilities.. Suits my day-long use)

    Great Review.. I went with the LG G2 after being an Apple IOS user for the last 5 years i decided it was time for something new. I had originally tried out the S4 this past summer but i couldn't get use to it so i gave up on the Android idea. After reading reviews online about this new phone and playing with it at the store i decided to give android another shot - once month later i'm loving it still.. Yes the key is to ditch the LG launcher and go with Nova much better choice.

    Dude, you said the iPhone took better photos clearly when you said while taking the photos the G2 did better. I also found you were very biased towards the iphone when it came to software and UI, when all of the stuff you said about nova launcher and stuff makes it better doesn't belong on a review/comparison. Sorry not a good video.

      I have the Google Nexus 5 which has a 5 inch 1080p display. It makes the iPhone look like a toy. My aunt upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 leaving the iPhone 4. She says her new phone puts the iPhone to shame. The LG G2, Note 3, & Nexus 5 puts the iPhone to shame. I held on the the iPhone & I couldn't believe how small it was in my hand. Apple should add more size to the screen.

    This is how reviews should be made... Neutral and honest!
    I always enjoy this guy's reviews.
    I could say that the iphone's battery is a little worse than stated here as a negative, but that's just a minor detail. Good work, keep it up. PS->...
    Ps. I dont know if at the time of the review the lg's ui was not good, but at my present usage, it works great, no lags and no spelling mistakes.
    In fact, using a clean android ui like the kit kat, made the phone feel "empty" missing things like knock on, remote control and quick memo which are things I got used to and now miss on devices that dont have them.
    Plus I believe this ui is the first on android to support landscape mode (which looks great on this screen) out of the box. Plus changing the icons to whatever you want.
    Come to think of it, this ui is great and its the first time (coming from samsung devices) that I dont need another launcher. This one is greatly customizable.
    You can even change the transitions!!!!
    Not to forget the built in task killer for things you dont want to be running in the background.
    I'll stop here because the more I wright, the more I remember!!!

    I've used both, and they are great phones. If I had to choose one I would choose the iPhone 5s being that I switched from the G2 to the 5s. I base this on functionality and overall performance. It's no denying this A7 chip, it's an absolute beast. I really enjoyed the Snapdragon 800, but at times lag occurred followed by slight freezing.

    I had the Iphone 4s for 2 years now and loved it (especially siri) I was planning on getting the Iphone 6 or wait for the 6s, but my other half lost there phone and we had to get a new one... Well since I was there at the ATT store I was looking at this phone and new it was bad ass... I was compeled to get it as I got the 18 month plan and the phone was free for me to get (drool) So my impulse said ok... Driving home I was like oh shit there's no siri (I do use it a lot for any info) Well I must say is this phone is beautiful the screen alone (drool) the hardware specs (awsome) I will miss my iphone's simple easy to use and reliable interface (looking to get the 6s if they get a bigger screen) but I really like this G2 I just hate they get outdated by lets say samsung S5 comming next month I think.... Lol I'm pretty sure the G2 is still as poweful as the S5, nothing to worry about. You won't feel a difference for newer devices for the close year or so. Only software will be different, hardware will be very similliar.
      And instead of Siri, you got Google Now :)

    See but you have to jailbreak for those features. All Android users have to do is install what ever app they want. And as far as the polished look goes, why would they care about that if many people get 3rd party launchers anyways? these don't require root or flashing roms. And if you want to really get into it, jailbreaking an iphone doesn't come close to rooting an android. You basically unlock both of the phones, but there will never be roms to get for an iPhone unless someone steals the OS.

    that is just your opinion. For me, i have tried a bigger screen (sgs3) and it was just TOO BIG. found it uncomfortable to hold with one hand which makes is fatiging during long phone calls. also navigation is very difficult with 1 hand.
    If everything you said its true that "ALL" people need bigger screens then why did samsung and htc make "mini" phones. Clearly as you say there is no demand for them.

    The edge-to-edge 1080p display is just drop dead gorgeous! Once you get used to the rear buttons, it'll make life so much easier. No worrying about charging it, the G2 lasts me 2 full days on heavy use. The perfect phone.

    I think it's the other way around. In Android's settings for example, you have everything neatly organized and you can search for any settings you need to find. On iOS there's a bunch of different sub-categories for adjustments and tweaks. Also, with iOS devices you only get the home button so you have to go to different areas of settings to change something you can change on Android simply by hitting the Menu button which most phones have. I consider myself good with tech and I get lost in iOS

    RETINA is a just a marketing term for LCD panels with a high pixel density. The current RETINA panels are made by LG and Samsung.
    Current Android Phones like the LG G2, S4 and the HTC One all have a higher pixle density than any apple product on the markte today.
    You can check that via wikipedia if you want to.

Ios 12 still good and I believe my iphone 5s still usable at least 2 years more.So my conclusion, iphone 5s is better in a long run

    They say you should not look at specs or benchmarks but judge performance based on how the phone performs in real life. However, when I use thee iPhone I notice that it is slow. When you perform a race between e.g. an iphone 5 and an Xperia Z to perform some task, the iPhone is much slower. For example, when you click on an app, it takes much longer to actually get into the app whereas the Xperia would just zip into it immediately. They say this delay is cause by animations on iphones

  • @CurtisDishman
    @CurtisDishman 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    that depends on what you started with, i know android like the back of my hand, but it took me forever to just find the settings (at first, due to me not knowing that it was in the app selection). also, the lag difference is hardly noticeable.

    but it still shows that there is a demand for such devices. Remember the disappointment of the low end specs of the announced s3 mini and s4 mini. People were expecting and wanting a high end small phone from android oems.
    Besides the original argument was that small screens were a "compromise". I'd rather think of them as in differnt markets just like an ultrabook vs a full tower pc. an ultrabook isn't a compromised pc because they have completely different usage intentions.

  • @pspvita99

    You didn't even mention the most important things and if you did not vary well so i will help you out. The Iphone 5S has a screen resolution of 1136x640 which is lower than 720p and it has 326 PPI/pixels per inch. now for the camera it has an 8 megapixels camera. It also runs a much out dated Chipset and because of that lacks alot of great features. Although you couldn't utilize those features anyway because of apples OS and there strict store regulations. You would basically need to root your phone and probably run some kind of Linux distro to really utilize anything. I would probably do this since iOS is based on OS X which is itself a variant of a BSD UNIX kernel running on top of a micro kernel called Mach. Node.js is relatively simple to compile on this platform but iOS is designed to run only application packages so you'd have to include it in an app context and it would be arbitrarily suspended or killed by iOS. So my point being is its not really a great idea to use IOS period. Now for the LG G2's Specs. The LGG2 has a5.2 inch 1920x1080p display with 424 ppi pixels per inch. so for a comparison the iphone 5s has 326ppi and the LGG2 has 424PPI. the higher the number the better. the camera is a 13 megapixels 4160 x 3120 pixels auto focus optical image stabilization, LED flash. I don't even need to compare this since the iphones hardware is basically a generation or maybe even 2 generations behind. Heres the sad part there are phones on the market right now. Like the LGG3 which have a 530ppi screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 which is higher than 1920x1080p and the Iphone 5S has a screen resolution thats under 720p. This would be okay with me if Apple wasn't trying to say/sell these devices as flag ship devices. I'm okay with phones being on the market that have low end specs but they need to be priced accordingly. For Example you cant sell a flip phone for 300$. A flip phone is 18$ at Walmart right now and should be free with any two year contract. The i phone with a 2 year contract should be 100$ at most with its current hardware. I currently have the note 3 but the LGG3 is probably the best phone on the market right now. The note 4 will be soon though...

    • @pspvita99
      @pspvita99 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DarkX617821 LOL that's all you got from this? MP don't matter lol. You need to run and go waist your money on an IPhone right now lol. The screen on the LGG2 is better than the iPhone 5S, iphone 6 and technically the IPhone 6 Plus because the PPI pixels per inch is higher on the LGG2 even though the resolution of the iphone6plus is the same as the LGG2. That being said even if the cameras better on the iPhone 5S, which it's not. knowing that info. hypothetically if the iPhone5s took better pictures than the LGG2. the pictures taken on the LGG2 would look better on the phone because the screen on the LGG2 has more pixels/ a higher resolution. Taking that even further to see the pictures on the LGG2 in its best quality you would have to have a 4k monitor/screen. With the iphone6plus or any other iPhone we don't even have that variable. Meaning that the camera on the LGG2 is better than any iPhone including the iPhone 6 Plus. Your comments true pixels don't always matter, but in this scenario that statement doesn't apply at all

    just curious, what was ever the point of NFC. Never found it to be that amazing. Sharing files between phones have much more elegant solution (even i think apple's implementation of wifi direct is better). And I don't see how NFC payments are any more convenient than paypass.
    If anything, tags are a really cool tech, but it could be achieved with rfid tags of all things, a much cheaper and passive tech.

    IMO iPhones are waayy to expensive. I was an iOS freak tho. They were on point. I liked that. Then iOS 7 showed me the way to a paradise called HTC One. lol
    I also loved Lumia 520. I got it just to see hoe Windows Phones work and lemme tell ya... Grrrreat experience for an unreal small price. It's just... Old school with nowadays features.

    My dad has an 5S which I've also used for a little, and for those who prefer a smaller screen and for whom an Apple experience really matters, it's a pretty safe bet. The 64-bit processing in it which I rarely see mentioned may also open doors to faster performance in the future when apps get optimised for it. It _massacres_ benchmarks.
    That said, I went for the G2 myself. The screen is _amazing_, the battery life is still better, and as a power user of technology I prefer the customisability of Android over iOS. And that's coming from someone who only uses a fraction of the tuning capability of the system; I know there are people who'd consider my meagre tinkering very vanilla. And while the G2 loses to 5S in benchmarks, I'd say it wins in utility, since it has a larger screen and a more flexible OS to take advantage of the (still amazing) specs it _has_. The 5S's power feels...restricted in its smaller stature and locked-down UI.
    Oh, and the G2 came at 65% of the price of the 5S to me in northern Europe, so there's that too. iPhones are very pricey.

    I've been using the G2 for 3 weeks now and I've switched from iphone. I absolutely love the camera on the G2, and a lot of LG's features, but really do miss iOS simplicity. You could customize an android more than an iphone but for the most part it is tacky and unnecessary. If I had to pick I'd still pick my G2 because it has, for me, the best display of any phone right now and great battery life and an amazing camera.

    I dont get why people say they can get two days on the G2 battery. I own it, and honestly it's good...but by around 6-7 pm after waking up at 7am, my battery will be at 30% if I'm lucky. I find that games will drain about 1% every two minutes or so. I don't know how all these reviewers claim they are "power/heavy users" and get 2 days of life. I usually find that I drop to about 30% or less by 6 or 7 pm. N that is with moderate usage.
