I've said this before on other videos that I am not an engineer, but love to put things together and take them apart. This hits me on way more levels than just physical goods, it is a philosophy that can and for me should be applied to real life NO MATTER WHAT YOUR DOING. I've said both parts of this series to watch again because there are so many nuggets in here and if I am stuck on a problem, I think there is a process stated or shown here that can help me overcome it. The main problem with the consumer 3d printing scene is that all of the obvious advancements are under patent. So when you look at them and go "Wow I could make this so much better." You 100% could, but then you wouldn't be able to sell it.
The tech is perpetually 15 years behind because the companies that first patented all those parts have almost no interest in selling to consumers. So here we are with 15 year old belt driven 3d printers.

Sandy, YOU ARE THE MAN!! I watched Part 1 and couldn't stop. Thank you for everything which you do. Excellent information.
Love the real world examples!! I've worked for large OEMs and defense contractors, and have seen bureaucracy make simple things difficult.
The brilliant Burt Rutan, one of my life-long influences (and someone who'll preach your very own gospel 'till the cows come home) will reinforce your message: bureaucracy in a business can foster lethal disease!!

Great video. I'd really like to see Sandy reaction video of "Tesla Is Lightyears Ahead Of... Tesla", where the old Model S door handle is compared to the new Model S door handle. It shows just how committed Tesla is to improving their designs rather than simply continuing with the ugly baby.

I almost agree except that I think that the concept of the Model S handle is fundamentally flawed. I hate it but I love the rest of the car and I'm not selling my S anytime soon :)

Wow sandy this concept and mind set is a incredible way that a safety officer can use it in dealing with any one who is in a position of supervision of 1 worker all the way to thousands of people. As a NCSO witch is a National Construction Safety Officer working with all trades I have always got the line of "we have always done it that Way" and they lose there mind when you tell them well you have done it unsafely every time.

Munro did what Elon does. A presentation showing how they do stuff with the goal of hiring people.
Munro and Elon are a great partnership that always will move things forward. The guys at Arcimoto we're extremely smart to bring Munro to the team.
    Congratulations to you all.

My son is doing Mechanical Engineering at uni and is totally into what you have to say. You're developing the new engineers and filling them with confidence to enforce Sandy-sense! 👍💪

    I call it "Negotiating Blame".
How to tell if you are in a negotiation:
    * People start using standards to get measurement
    * There is a proposal to exchange something of value
Indicators that you are negotiating blame:
    * The goal is no longer to solve the problem, but to figure out where the missteps are
    * Anger with the people is more salient than passions for the solutions.

Great presentation! It's interesting how this also applies to software engineering. I very often see people over-engineering instead of simplifying code; adding code that should never exist; solving problems in isolation instead of thinking about bigger picture. I'm also learning on my mistakes which is frustrating - nobody taught my to think this way, neither at the university nor in the school. You just have to learn it the hard way. It's great if you learn from your mistakes, some people are too lazy or short-sighted to even learn.

In a different interview on the everyday astronauts youtube channel, Elon talks about how sometimes engineers end up over-engineering a solution that is unnecessary or sometimes not needed and that should be prevented. I think that applies even in software. I work with databases and reports, and I've found myself spending too much time on something that was ultimately not needed by the user

Sandy is a genius. Absolute master class in Industry 4.0 Lean Manufacturing.
Worked as a Quality Engineer Manager on many consumer electronics with top Mfrs.
It was a constant battle with engineers of badly designed parts and manufacturing. Ultimately I had lost many battles at our morning production meetings pitching quality over quantity. Several years after I had left to accept a government position the company went out of business. No doubt Tesla engineers designed their parts and manufacturing process to a 6 sigma standard resulting in the highest margin in the industry.

Great video! worked for Delphi, TRW, ZF, LG ETC....Im 50 years old, worked in the US.MEX border (Mex side) for 28 years, started as an Injection molding set up tech, finished as an Ops Manager, but thank GOD Im out!! I retired once the Pandemic started, a manufacturing plant in Mex is not the place to be during pandemic....Thank GOD for TESLA! I was able to retire ONLY!! because I had the vision and invested all my savings in Tesla 3 YEARS AGO! SO....I didn't have to wait until 70 to retire, working in Manufacturing for 28 years is Enough! Im still trying to recover from the stressful environment......

Excellent Thank you Sandy, I really enjoyed these two talks. Its been refreshing to hear your philosophy, as Ive always taken the attitude when designing things less is more, the simpler it is the more reliable it is.
