    $25k is still too expensive ($40k AUD) for the Model 2. There are already 3 sub-$40k EVs on sale in Australia that you can buy today. And BYD is already making the Seagull in large and ever-increasing numbers. Tesla needs to stop mucking around if they want to maintain their market share of this growing market.

      @bluestarcesium 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Elon said that the Mexican factory will take at least two years to complete, and he said that the 25,000 vehicle will be made in Texas and they were already working on production there. The factory that is making the battery is in China, and the factory there is making a sodium battery, which will replace lithium. Lithium prices are already falling because of the sodium battery prices. BYO is already making a vehicle using sodium batteries and Tesla has to compete with BYO. This will force Tesla to move to sodium batteries.

    These things are generally true about Tesla and its EV competition:
    1) Tesla has had and still has a huge lead in EV production scaling and efficiency. It will be amongst the EV manufacturing leaders in 2026/2027 as well.
    2) The Tesla 'Model 2' will be one of the first new generation EVs that will take the affordability and functionality of EVs to a new level. Range anxiety and charging times should be moot issues by then.
    3) BYD will continue to level peg Tesla as a standout of the EV world and an EV technology leader. They could even beat Tesla to the punch with a new generation EV.
    4) New generation EVs will be notable for their cost optimised design and also for the cost optimised high volume production lines on which those vehicles are produced. The capability and quality of both vehicle design teams and production design teams as well as the expertise of a stratum of talented analysts, strategic planners and engineers with deep knowledge of related industries and supply chains will be the determinants of success in the EV industry.
    5) Besides the way that these new EVs are built and the extreme scale of production there will be a number of discernible vehicle features as well. New gen EVs will all offer ranges that are comparable to existing ICE vehicles and will be capable of 4C charging or better. All new gen vehicles will use high voltage architectures - 800v or more. Both the batteries and the cars will be safer - vehicle chassis/structure and electric and electronic design will be heavily revised. Software will be more stable, complete, secure and useful.
    6) Whereas BYD is yet to get vehicle production efficiency right Tesla has somewhat dropped the ball on scaling. The Model 2 should really be approaching production now in order to feed burgeoning mass demand. However, instead of Tesla making hay in 2024 and 2025 excessive financial caution at Tesla has imperilled its big lead. Tesla will now turn out its new generation of EVs at roughly the same time as its rivals.
    7) There will be additional high volume EV players that will shortly emerge. CATL will be one, although they will position themselves as a broad technology supplier to partnering manufacturers. That will be a necessary move for CATL because while their leading battery technology is needed by automakers most of CATL's customers experience a narrowing of margins with CATL taking healthy profits as well. By offering many of the critical pieces of underlying skateboards CATL becomes a more useful partner to automakers. In such a scenario, CATL's tech has the prospect to reduce automakers costs and increase margins rather than squeezing margins which is what happens when CATL takes healthy profits on the most expensive component in the EV - the battery. GAC is another company that looks the part - they are vertically integrated in a way closely akin to BYD.
    8) In time, all successful EV automakers will start looking somewhat alike. The battery business within an auto company ideally will be operated at a more extreme scale than that of the specific requirements of a single automotive company. CATL and BYD already sell batteries to all takers and in all likelihood Tesla and GAC will have to do the same if they want to match the technical pace of the market leaders. Today, Tesla is doing well in grid storage, of course, but the company will need to have its fingers on the pulse of scientific research with the power to trigger future revolutionary advances in the battery industry.
    9) Without the ambition or the push for vertical integration of Tesla or BYD or CATL or GAC no other auto companies will rise to equal the leading EV automakers/suppliers just mentioned.
    10) Hardware and software suppliers like CATL, Huawei, Nvidia, Qualcomm, ARM, Samsung, AMD and Waymo have all demonstrated an ability to get car manufacturers or robotaxi operators on board with their products.
    * CATL, for instance, has agreements or partnerships centred on its batteries and/or skateboards with Geely, Volvo, Changan (AVATR), Chery, SERES (AITO), NIO, XPeng, Hozon/NETA and Vinfast.
    * Huawei has agreements centred on self-driving tech and drivetrain components with Changan (AVATR), Chery (Exeed), Seres (AITO), BAIC and JAC.
    * Geely and Volvo seem to be committed to the Alphabet/Waymo Driver self-driving platform and Qualcomm's silicon.
    * Nvidia has strong commitment from a lot of Chinese and non-Chinese manufacturers around the world to its self-driving software/hardware platform.
    * I suspect that these broad partnerships and agreements will help the mentioned manufacturers achieve profitability, in time.
    11) I am more sceptical about Li Auto, X-Peng and NIO. Going your own way is fine but making second string products having gone your own way will get you in trouble. The mentioned companies are making less mistakes than they used to, however, so they still could be alright.
    12) Nothing much that is sensible can be said about SAIC and LeapMotor. Either could easily find success or fall into decline. Whether either company is on an upward or downward trend isn't obvious from the data or the quality of their products. VW's bet on SAIC, X-Peng and LeapMotor doesn't look that safe to me.

      Toyota and VW use to vi for the number one place at around 10 million vehicles. VW has been dropping off and are more like 8.5M where Toyota have maintained their 10 Million sales qty due to still supplying the pent up demand from supply shortages, but that’s coming to an end. EV sales worldwide will be 14% this year and 20% next year. Toyota have virtually no EV offerings and will have only a very limited models and production in 2025 and 2026. By then EV manufacturing especially Tesla and BYD both expanding fast. Toyota are not 10 times that of Tesla. Tesla is already at a run rate of 2M. It won’t be many more years when VW and Toyota are loosing sales to the EV evolution and the EV companies are growing fast in EVs rapidly closing the gap. Just 3 years back Tesla delivered 369.000 cars in 2019 and in 2023 will be 1.8 M

    I was suprised that Elons reponses were more diplomatic and reserved, compared to other interviews.
    I think the information shared on the model 2 felt more normal, amd Tesla shared its having and had the same time delays and constraints to other industries in my view. It was surprising to hear that Giga Mexico will take longer than expected. What the Elecric Viking didn't share in this video is that constraints in late production of the cybertruck was also limited by chip shortage. We didn't noticeably see this in production numbers of model 3 and Y but I did get a sense Tesla was lucky due to sheer planning and organization of stock chips and parts. Knowing this I'm sure the model 2 production will be revolutionary. But at the end of the day it is all about selling EVs and transitionong as fast as possibly to sustainable transport. We will eventually likely get a 25000 dollar model 2. But I think it will take a while and at launch we will not see a 25000 dollar model. Reason why? Demand will be high, just like we know with other Tesla's and the surprising expensive launch price of the cybertruck. We might get cheaper in time, but it is going to be a long wait. In my view the model 2 for the global EV market is far more relevant than the currently hyped up cybertruck that will not be the EV for everyone by sheer price constraints for customers. In that regard I think it is umfortunate that Tesla didn't go with the model 2 before the cybertruck. Because with reasonable idea of possible 2026 wait for a model 2 and then likely having to wait amother 18 months for an affordable model to is almost 4 years ahead in time. In EV transition I think it is soon. But seeing model 2 cimpact car is extremely rekevant in the market, today, I thinl the model 2 is too far away in the future and frankly a bit late to the party. I think Munro rightly diplomatically critiqued and asked nicely on the model, and is to me the most important pivoting point in the interview. To me it felt like the roadmap for the first time looks less ideal and the wait is going to be very lomg for a model 2, and feels more in line with struggles other automakers are having, leaving more room for competitors to compete in the compact EV space. With this timeline I'm getting a sense the model 2 release will not have as big of a hyped splash as the other Tesla's have so far. Yes, production method will be revolutionary, but so have so many other industries had revolutionary methods. I got a sense that Elon gave a more down to Earth response for the projected future. To me it felt different to other interviews he gave. As for general information ot was not much to go on. I think the model 2 will also be expensive at launch, and get mixed reviews. I wouldn't be surprised to make the markets demand meet we will still get a basic model 2 option with current LFP battery simply to compete on price with the market. LFP will likely be even more cheaper as patents run out and they will be cheaper to produce. Tesla's model 2 motor and aoftware will be able to pull off very interesting efficiencies I believe. And they will likely show an interesting demo of its crash worthiness because of the one piece box construction, something similar to the Smart commercial.

      "Why would anyone need superchargers in the suburbs?"
      Suburbs are cheaper places to expanded supercharger capacity than inner cities are, due to lower real estate costs, while still benefit people who live in the city anyway, because when they drive their cars to go somewhere, they will likely be passing by the suburban superchargers then. Suburbs also have apartments in them, just like cities do, and the people who live in such apartments who want an EV will need somewhere to charge, without needing to depend on their landlord to install chargers there.
      Also, as somebody who lives in a city and does have access to home charging, I find chargers in the suburbs very useful when returning home from road trips just a tiny bit longer than the range of the car, as this is where I will need to stop to do a quick top-up charge near the end of the trip.

EPA data shows Rivians are more efficient than Cybertrucks, even with larger wheels and batteries and the cheaper Ford have just broken the record for F- 150 sales. The Tesla model 2 giga press will pop out a completely finished Tesla model 2 ;-). From a SF movie scene in Minority Report: the hero is on the run in an electric car factory that is 100% robotized and automated. I think Musk is aiming for 100% automation/robotization. Will it also be based on carbon in stead of metal? A very good report on the lithium stock prognoses and market development says the following: the exponential growth of EVs will become linear growth from 2027 and onward, because of the limited supply of lithium. Even after the sodium battery will become economically viable, it will take a decade before this technology can be scaled up to mass production, just like the lithium battery mass production. So linear growth after 2027 in stead of exponential growth.

  • @TheCaminoGuide
    @TheCaminoGuide 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    If you think about the process, they are already building the battery and motors in these factories, so adding a new model will be so efficient. They can just max out production of the motors and battery packs, so the Model 2 line will just use those parts that are already on site. I think this is why they want the parallel assembly, so they can just route battery packs and motors to the line where they are needed. They could have Model Y being built in one part of the factory, Model 3 in another and Model 2 in another, but the battery line and motors line will feed them all. It should look like letters getting automatically routed in the post office...just sort of zipping along and splitting left or right, wherever they are needed. Same factory, same cost already built in, but another million units produced in each. I think Tesla could get 2 million cars out of each factory eventually. Compare that to the 60 factories that each of the legacy auto companies uses to produce their cars.

    I've a feeling that model 2 refers to a step change, and not a specific car.
    So the first being the smaller cheaper car, followed by other subsequent models built on the same idea or infrastructure, smaller cheaper batteries, simplified build, fewer less complicated parts, which is why musk wouldn't and couldn't go into detail.
    If this is the case, which i suspect it is this will really shake up the market, as up until now the competition have been nipping at their heels.
    Elon should really push hard into the European market, either way fun times ahead.

    Tesla is almost definitely going with CATL's condensed high-capacity battery, and won't be surprised if this same battery starts to appear in more Tesla's over the years, until solid-state batts match this battery, and come to market. The $25k Tesla will almost definitely be a small hatchback, with base-line specs, which is perfectly fine for most people, and will have to be made near-100% automated and FAST! I admire and respect Musk when he's talking about things that matter and not delving into politics and conspiracy theories. Wish he'd stick with talking tech and facts.

Musk isn't interested in politics, he's interested in truth, which is in really short supply these days.

    If I am not mistaken Musk recently said that the Model 2 (or whatever it will be called) will look a lot more like the Cybertruck than the Model 3 or Y. Also, that its design will look "cool" but with "utility" as the main feature. So all these artist drawings showing a shorter Model 3 (what's more with the old, pre-Highland face!) are completely off the mark.

    EV’s have a problem right now in that they’re really not very easy to own for people who can’t charge in their garage. I assume the point where it makes sense to target the low/mid market will coincide with the point when people can reliably charge their car at a fast charger in

    Sure it can't be worse than the original 4680 which had 16% better density which is dead. 4680b is only 10% more dense and they can't make that efficiently either - so really anything is better than either one if they can actually make what ever it is.
