As an elder millennial, there was no instruction other than watching your mom trowel on baby blue eyeshadow and tease her hair to the heavens. I will say that I’ve always been forever grateful that my mom never tried to spare my feelings when I was trying makeup and would vigorously rub out that dreaded line along the jaw that so many teen girls had in the 90s with a too dark foundation and no attempt to blend. Or when I’d pile on foundation to cover a blemish, she’d nope that shit and rub the excess product off. She really was doing the lord’s work.
My boyfriend was watching you saying "hmm" every time you said something informational. 😂 You even captivate people who have no interest in makeup. He also says "hi Robert" now whenever I play your videos.

Robert, I really felt your apology to your younger self. We are so quick to judge our past selves and regret past choices, and beat ourselves up over them. But thinking about how that past self would feel, of they saw me bashing then and treating them like that, changed my mindset. Yes, we should grow, but we should also respect how we got things done the way we knew how. We could all use self-compassion. Amid your entertaining and funny videos (I lol'd at "parallel?"), thank you for your heartfelt advice and your light.

I started doing my makeup in the early 90s. It was a tough time for everyone. Tragic eyebrows plucked to death. You could drive a truck in between them. Frosted everything, no contouring, color matching foundation was non-existent. Blending was for margaritas. If you haven't watched Jamie French's 90s tutorial, give it a tumble. Your look was light years ahead of my early days and Hell probably still is! This was fun to watch. I enjoyed you roasting yourself.
