    Charlie Hargrett, one of the best players around and one hell of a nice human being. What a tone in his fingers !
    I wish there were videos of these guys when they used to be a cover band, they were tight.
    I used to be a punk kid on the same circuit as them.

      At that time a friend worked in a record shop & sometimes he came up with rare records and/or even bootlegs or just with records from (here in Switzerland) unknown but great rock musicians/bands. One day he came and said with shining eyes: "Listen to this!" (it was the "Highway Song Live" album) and i was flashed by the energy of this music.
      A few months later there was a concert of our local (swiss) heroes Krokus with the supporting act Blackfoot. It was this concert and it was only horrible, how they soundmixed them down to almost making the songs unrecogniseable ... Apparently they didn't dare to provide the musicians with the same sound system as Krokus was using.
      Blackfoot = Great Rock Music!

    Incredible power ballad and this awesome melancholic voice of Rickey - a perfect combination for a big hit. Very close to Free Bird, folks. Unfortunately they didn`t have that commercial success they`d deserved. Want to hear a big "AGREED". Rock on guys.

      Roger that brother! When I was 20 yrs old I came to the chance theatre in Poughkeepsie , ny from Massachusetts to visit friends and to see Blackfoot. When it came time for them to play highway song rick pulled me up to sing it with them. I was f###### floored. That was a great moment for me. I had seen them many times in Poughkeepsie at the mid-Hudson civic center when I was working there.Rick called me little brother. Such a great memory for me.

I bought the strikes album in 1996 or so after hearing this(and train, train) on our local classic rock station, which was just becoming popular. Now I’m getting into it deeper and it’s really giving me the bug! Love it.

    I'm old by years. I'm 63. I purchased the vinyl copy of strikes when I was 19. I still have the vinyl album. It's still pristine, even after it having been played 100s, if not more, of times. I have had this song in my car ever since, be it on cassette, CD, memory card or as it is now, saved to the internal memory in my car entertainment system. The car I have now is the only car with less than 3000 watts of power.
    There is nothing like the feeling of your car thumping under your a.s... rolling down the highway with the volume set to hypersonic levels listening ot this song. My stereos, the concerts I have seen and especially this song will the cause of my hearing loss. Long live the Medlocke brothers!!!

    Has anyone really thought about how influential Jacksonville, FL has been on music? Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special, Blackfoot, etc. I know there were lots of changes in personnel, some by necessity but so many of their songs have stood the test of time and still get radio play. It must have been something in the water down there.

    This is the type of guitar playing that transcends the generations... This is the type of performance that makes a young person pick up a guitar and put a lifetime of blood, sweat, and tears into his axe, this is a performance that can change a life. And THAT is legendary!!!

I finally checked out some other Blackfoot this summer and couldn’t get enough of Fox Chase. But Highway Song just holds a special place in my heart. 🤍

    There are a large handful of "Epic" southern rock songs... "Dreams" (Alman Bros), "Fall Of The Peacemakers" (Molly Hatchet), "Green Grass And High Tides" (Outlaws), and pretty much everything by Lynyrd Skynyrd and this is certainly in that list!

    I was in Jacksonville during the 70's & 80's. I saw All of them play in the bars around town - Skynyrd - 38 special - Molly Hatchett - Blackfoot and even though the Allman Brothers Band is from Georgia they actually formed in Jacksonville. For a season we were the RockNRoll capitol of the world and Ronnie was the King. It was a magical time, that passed to soon with way to many deaths. RIP

      All of those bands had great guitarists! I would venture to say if you couldn't play, you couldn't hang in the Jacksonville music scene back in the day. Unlike LA or New York where it's all glitz and glamour, at the end of the day the talent is what keeps you going.
