Explain to me how they were underrated. Also is it just standard for people to randomly say this band or this person was “underrated” that is on every damn video on TH-cam someone says that same exact comment.
April Wine and Rush were my 2 top Canadian bands ever. Listened to their music to no end back in my youth, and actually still play both a decent amount to this day. There are not many that can even come close to this perfection these days. These 2 bands made me fall in love with rock music. Myles will be soo missed forever
April Wine, our Great Canadian friends. Love Y'all! Always have. Then, awhile back, I adopted out a foster cocker whom I was unshure he would be and was very fine with that, Clifford the Big Red Dog went to Canada. Adopted at age 11, blind, etc.
Myles Goodwyn's voice is timeless... I was 12 when I stole my older brother's April Wine 8-Track and jammed out to it at my cousin's house. It was worth the beating.
Myles grew up just down the Waverly Road from where I live now. Saw them one of the last times they played. Big concert on the waterfront 2 Labour Day weekends ago. Man they still had it. THey should have been so much a bigger deal.
Actually, if people enjoy it then I suppose that's all that's important. But subjectively speaking, IMHO, April Wine was certainly not a lot more than a standard mainstream band (no offense to Canadians), but certainly they really weren't anything special. More in the same genre with Def Leppard, Triumph, Night Ranger, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, big audiences, big shows, big sounds, but entirely pridictable and boring. I'd put Journey in that group, too even though it had some the best musicians of the time. AW may have had fine musicians, but it's music don't not break new ground nor was it terribly creative. More formulaic, standard stuff for commercial markets. It's really can't compare to what Bands like Rush, Elvis Costello The Pretenders, Roxy Music, Lods Triadores, YES, ELP, Queen, VH, Pink Floyd, The Stones and the Talking Heads, the Clash, The Angels, and even ACDC (with Bon Scott), were putting out at that time (Zeppelin was already in a death spiral since '75). Therr is GREAT music today, you just might not be accessing it, but certainly The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Noir Desir, Portugal the Man, Spoon, Beck, The Killers, among many others. Very few rock bands have their zenith extend beyond 1 or 2 albums, and 4 or more is very rare. It's the nature of the beast. So one needs to continually look for new music and inspiration even if it means looking outside North America and the British Isles.
