Agreed. I was born in '92 so my love for classic rock was indoctrinated by my dad and some bands/songs slipped through the cracks. The first time I heard this was about two years ago (at 27 years old) and my first thought was: "This is basically Free Bird but even better." Southern rock, heavy guitar emphasis with very extended guitar solos, way longer than most classic rock songs, etc. Blew me away. I listened to it on repeat for days if not weeks after discovering it and it's become a song that will always be in regular rotation.
I lived in Massachusetts in the early 90's when it was announced that The Outlaws would be playing a local club. It was in February and the day of the show there was a huge blizzard. I knew the show would be cancelled but I drove out there about 8 pm, just to check. I walked in and the bartender said the band was already there and the show was going to go on. When they came on stage around 10 pm, I kid you not, there were about 25 people in the place. They came on and played an entire show, just like they were playing to 25,000 instead of 25. They ended the show with this song and after that they set down their instruments they came out to chat with the crowd. I got to meet Huey and chat with him and the other members of the band . By far the best Classic Rock tune of all time - Southern or otherwise! I wore out at least 4 LP's (still have the last one), a handful of 8 track tapes and a cassette tape or two all before 1990! Man their first three albums were all primo- Lady in Waiting & Hurry Sundown were perfect follow-ups to the first self titled Album. I saw them at least 5 times in the mid- late 70's, great times. Around 1981 I saw Henry Paul (solo) at a dive bar near the campus of Virginia Tech- it was a pretty bad scene- he was really shit faced, about 3 songs in someone hit him with a beer bottle and it was on, all hell broke loose- what a night.

Bloodywell unbelievable.Just watched again for God knows how many times and it still leaves me lost for words! One of the all time great rock tracks.Nuff said.
Drank a lot of beer etc to this tune in the late 70s. To this day when I get a new piece of stereo equipment this is the first song that gets played on it. For good luck.
It's killer to see a band enjoying themselves on stage, rather than copping an attitude like some performers do... Since 1975, so go figure, huh? WAY TO GO!!!
One of the best guitar jam sessions of all time!! Rest in peace Leonard Synard, and god bless the rest of you from Bella and Norm in Vancouver, we love it!!
Skynyrd and more specifically Ronnie Van Zant helped the Outlaws get signed to Arista Records. He told their A&R guy in so many words "If you don't sign this band you're crazy".
I saw the Outlaws in the late 70's when I was 17. The wall of amps,10 feet high and from one side of the stage to the other, 7 guitars, 2 drum sets and 10,000 people having a great time (My shoulders were sore from being tapped so many times. If you don't know what that means ask your parents.) will always be burned into my memory as one of the best concerts I ever saw.
the long version came off a two record album called THE OUTLAWS/BRING IT BACK ALIVE album with all performances done in1977.if you can find the album, you'll really will enjoy it.
As long as I lived , as long as I myself have played a guitar this is one of the moments, those magical musical moments when they were all in....Yah bless the "OUTLAWS"!
I would have to say, a most noble thing about Hughie Thomasson was, even though HE was The Outlaws (since he owned the name), he had no problem sharing the limelight. I've been in too many bands where someone else wanted to hog the spotlight when they knew they couldn't handle it.
I was looking for this song one day and I was so happy to find it but now I'm watching the live version I can't believe how good they sound Live they don't miss a beat and that's how you can tell a good band I'm sure you people know a lot of bands out there sound good in the studio but there true test is playing Live and they nailed it on this song
Saw the Outlaws back in 1982 during a big 2 foot snow storm at the Rutger's state college in New Brunswick, didn't think the show would be played but we went anyway and I guess about 100 people showed up. What a great show they put on and we even got front row seating woohoo.
Back on Christmas Day '20 while just kicking back until Christmas dinner. What better way than to dig on the Florida Guitar Army? As I watch these guys for the umpteenth time here....it's so obvious that they are truly "into it" and are not faking their groovin'.....like too many older bands. These guys were all having a friggin' ball contributing to this monster jam.
Saw these guys live in 94. Best live show I've ever seen. So much talent it was unbelievable. Every member of the band was a prodigy. R.I.P Huey! You were one of the greatest! Hope you and Toy and Tommy are jamming together somewhere in the sky.
Great band! One of my friends recently introduced me their music. He saw them open for Kansas in the 70's. How I have gone 40 years of my life without hearing these guys is beyond me.
this was brand new on the radio when i ran away from home back in 76 when i was 12 now i'm 51 and still love it like it was brand new. they don't play it anymore on the radio but when i hear it running away from home seems like it just happened yesterday
little feat, dixie chicken, good song willin' good song. the radios play the same songs over and over but never play the stuff that brings back the past
Sorry to say the majority of today's music is awful. I'm 15 and grew up listening to southern rock and classic rock and it just makes me realize how bad today's music is. Love this song and love this band! Wish I could have gotten to see these guys live.

Some o f these comments crack me up.....Hughie...you are missed EVERY day. I am so glad I have your music to carry me thru the rest of my life!!!! Billy too R.I.P. florida's original guitar army.....Thank you for your Beautiful Music and Harmonies....And Chris, you got a style all your own (always have) You Rock!
Bloodywell unbelievable.Just watched again for God knows how many times and it still leaves me lost for words! One of the all time great rock tracks.Nuff said.
What a fun, old school jam. What a loss with Hughie Thomason right after this.
Remember when the 2 drum set just started taking off.....Long time ago......
Drank a lot of beer etc to this tune in the late 70s. To this day when I get a new piece of stereo equipment this is the first song that gets played on it. For good luck.
Can't tell you how many miles I've put on the Harley with that song playing...that's livin brother! Finest of times.
always makes the hair on my arms stand up
Never Ever get tired of watching this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best guitar jam i ever heard SERIOUSLY.......
Hughie is sorely missed. The Outlaws aren’t the Outlaws without him!
It's killer to see a band enjoying themselves on stage, rather than copping an attitude like some performers do...
Since 1975, so go figure, huh? WAY TO GO!!!
One of the most beautiful things I've seen, heard, and felt in my life!!
Anytime I feel old this gets me back a few years
+Mark Eichenlaub Yep . today's one of those days . 55 tomorrow , how time fly's
+Bajjrry Weinrich
You are old. So am I, enjoy.
Mark Eichenlaud....LOL...You know it Brother!
AliG1964 Yeah, so right guys. But we got some kick ass memories of them.....and us.
And for that-all of it and you guys too-gotta say thanks.
Number 1 song in my Book, Rock on Boys!
A BIG truck couldn't carry that much rock and roll!
BIGOGRE1958
Great Song!
One of the best guitar jam sessions of all time!! Rest in peace Leonard Synard, and god bless the rest of you from Bella and Norm in Vancouver, we love it!!
🎹🎸🥁🎻🎤📻i love Lynyrd Skynyrd!!! 🦅
Skynyrd and more specifically Ronnie Van Zant helped the Outlaws get signed to Arista Records. He told their A&R guy in so many words "If you don't sign this band you're crazy".
Lynyrd Skynyrd
I saw the Outlaws in the late 70's when I was 17. The wall of amps,10 feet high and from one side of the stage to the other, 7 guitars, 2 drum sets and 10,000 people having a great time (My shoulders were sore from being tapped so many times. If you don't know what that means ask your parents.) will always be burned into my memory as one of the best concerts I ever saw.
the long version came off a two record album called THE OUTLAWS/BRING IT BACK ALIVE album with all performances done in1977.if you can find the album, you'll really will enjoy it.
The raw power of 5 badass guitars, two drum kits, and all the rest on stage defines the Outlaws.
As long as I lived , as long as I myself have played a guitar this is one of the moments, those magical musical moments when they were all in....Yah bless the "OUTLAWS"!
And. . .a saxaphone! Why not!
Love this tune!
SuperDachshund they could have put a fn accordian in and it would still be great!
LOVE THIS! & ALL OF THE BAND IS HAVING A BLAST WITH BIG SMILES! IT MAKES ME SMILE TOO! ONE OF THE GREATEST SOUTHERN ROCK ANTHEMS EVER!
It’s easy to forget with the guitar army jamming there’s also two drum kits banging away. Love it! The sound never gets old.
This song could go on forever and nobody would ever go home and people would still there ecstatic.
Most these dudes probably grew up jammin that tune, like we all did. RIP Hughie Thomasson, always one of the best!
this one of my favorite songs :)
Hey Dave, this is America, as many guitarists as they want.
Saw these guys live in 94. Best live show I've ever seen. So much talent it was unbelievable. Every member of the band was a prodigy. R.I.P Huey! You were one of the greatest! Hope you and Toy and Tommy are jamming together somewhere in the sky.
Hughie was great! I miss him.
Great band! One of my friends recently introduced me their music. He saw them open for Kansas in the 70's. How I have gone 40 years of my life without hearing these guys is beyond me.
The sax player is David Muse, also a FL musician who was in Firefall and more recently played with Marshall Tucker.
Great Southern Rock Jam session. Hell Yeah 😎✌🏻️🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We supported the outlaws in the sixties when they were over in England. what fantastic musicians. We were the Dalesmen. what a night geoff.
Theres two drummers and by the way the soundman did a great job for an outside concert with so many guitars,
+Norman Miller Thank you, I had just put new batteries in the camera mic!
+Norman Miller two drummers suck and the sound man ain't worth a fuck
hater's gonna hate, troll
Call this trolling? Pedestrian! Go practice some more and come back...
Y'know, big words aside, like "superlative," this brings such joy. Thanks so much for posting, "saskatchawan." ~ S ~
the guy with the green guitar is Chris Wormer who is currently a guitarist for the Charlie Daniels Band. What a great vid this is!
Thanks!!! That dude can play!!!
this was brand new on the radio when i ran away from home back in 76 when i was 12 now i'm 51 and still love it like it was brand new. they don't play it anymore on the radio but when i hear it running away from home seems like it just happened yesterday
Richard Mcginnis they play it on my radio, first saw them way back in 1976 supporting Little Feat, Manchester, England
little feat, dixie chicken, good song willin' good song. the radios play the same songs over and over but never play the stuff that brings back the past
❤❤❤❤ I saw them 5 times in one week in 1978. I just saw them in Cincinnati a few weeks ago in 2024 awesome show.
Sorry to say the majority of today's music is awful. I'm 15 and grew up listening to southern rock and classic rock and it just makes me realize how bad today's music is. Love this song and love this band! Wish I could have gotten to see these guys live.
