Ricky Medlocke one of the most underrated guitar player and musicians ever Blackfoot and the original drummer of Skynyrd and then guitarist for Skynyrd from the tribute tour on southern rock lives on!🎸🎼🎶🎵
He wasn't the original drummer for Skynyrd. Bob burns was. He played on the first and the last lp in 71 to 72 .But the lp wasn't released until 1978. He had credits for 4 songs on that lp. He sung White dove.
Could listen to Ricky Rattlesnake sing and pick all day long! This song is to Blackfoot what Freebird is to Skynyrd or Whipping Post is to the Allman Brothers, or Green Grass and High Tides is to the Outlaws.
I do agree! Wow!! This summer I'll be seing Lynyrd Skynyrd in Berlin on their Farewell Tour of Europé. Long live Southern Rock! And as long as Rickey Medlock and Gary Rossington still is alive and playing - it's a dream come true for me...
What a great guitar player, singer and songwriter, Rick Medlocke. Isaw him often live, he´s a living legend and helped his Indian Brothers where ever it was possible....!!!!Respect!.
absolutely phenomenal, Medlocke is a beast, I've had the privilege of seeing him with skynyrd several times, also had the privilege of seeing Hughie Thomasson from the outlaws when he was in skynyrd, long live southern rock
It's hard to believe, it was roughly 40 yrs ago, I saw Ricky and the boys for the first time. They warmed up for Foghat! I was worn out by the time Foghat took the stage. Love seeing Ricky now w Skynard, but I sure miss Blackfoot
Hard to tell under all that lush hair but the guitarist is Mark Woerpel with Tim Stunson on bass. Rickey was criticized for hiring these "hard rock" musicians. But I think they are a feast for the ears ........ and eyes
ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!! grew up on this and love this shit!!!!!! classic.... my dad raised me by himself and I am raising 2 boys alone... love it and teach them this all the time!!!!
One of my favorite songs of all time! Amazing, Medlocke dominates guitar and I love how much he always feels the music. Also amazes me how many people don't even know who Blackfoot is. For those that don't..Man they are missing out on one of the greatest bands ever.
Rickey is the best, but I sure do miss him singing. I'm sure Skynyrd must be a sweet deal for him, and I love Skynyrd, but I would love to see him front Blackfoot one more time. God bless Jackson, rest his soul.
Saw Blackfoot open for the Who in 1980. Some great mind altering substances that night, but I still remember how Medlocke and the boys got the crowd ready for Townsend and Daltry. Great show!
@ballerstatus1987 Called southern rock, why don't you just sit back and listen to what a great band created for millions to enjoy. Freebird and Highway song have significant differences, Sure they both start slow and end with a guitar outro, but the lyrics and the guitar remain totally unique.
Deep nostalgia with this song...brings tears......had this song in my heart..as I thumbed...42 years ago ------ til I die , will always remember ------------ Thanks Medlocke . Musician. --
Saw original lineup in 82 at Orpheum theater in Boston,MA. 3rd row! Incredible!!Ricky has been in Skynyrd for quite awhile now and I think they should let him do this song! Awesome talent indeed!
The t-shirt Mark Woerpol (rhythm gtr) is wearing in this video was given to Mark by my boys Frank & Shane and myself at the Buffalo Rose in Golden, Co. The t-shirt was from "The Concert for Colorado" featuring by appearance: Poco, Jefferson Starship, Alro Guthrie, Leon Russell & the Allman Brothers Band. My boys & i performed stage hand assistance, backstage security & photography for 2 days earlier. This concert was sponsored by Governor Roy Romer's folks to help stop gang violence in schools statewide.

Yes! They have returned to blackfoot, check out their new album "Legends never die".
There's a CD of the "King Biscuit Flower Hour" featuring Blackfoot that has an amazing version this song that has Kenny Hensley (Uriah Heep) on keyboards doing a solo. Epic!
I saw Blackfoot open for Ted Nugent in NJ in 1981in fact it was Krokus,Blackfoot,Ted amd it was a great show.Blackfoot is an excellent band and Medlocke in my opinion is one of the top 20 guitar players in Rock.
Rickey has great tone here as always....just listen to his solo from 5:45 or so on. The other guy however has horrendously bad tone......and kinda kills the vibe because of that for a few moments with his lead at the start of the song.
Thanks everyone for supporting my comments! Like I said this has to be one of the greatest ever rock songs , simply stunning! Shame Blackffot never got recognition they deserved , saw them twice in 80's at Castle Donnigton Monster and Knebwoth supporting Deep Purple, so f@@king good!!
@risercurve Sad to hear you bad mouth skynyrd, they sure aint no racists. I love Blackfoot, Skynyrd, Allman brothers etc I love the sound and feeling that is Southern rock, true music straight from and to heart and soul, dont know how you can say thats racist, cant imagine Rickey would ever play with them if so was the case! Peace man
I saw a very young Def Leppard open for Blackfoot at Hare Arena in Dayton, Oh. in 1981. I'm a month away from being 47 now, been to a lot of concert's through the years, but Medlocke can jam with the best of them.
even if it is a ripoff (not) its a great song..is molly hatchets fall of peacemaker or outlaws green grass and high tides a rip off?..yet get over it and don't play the fucking song!!!you stated your case i stated mine..go on with your lives..ok!! i am
This guitar looks like a hamer but your right its not the same sound. What kind of hamer did rickey play in the 82' Zurich version of this song? Any idea?
I saw this same tour in Germany at small club in Ashaffenburg. I was front row. Met Rickey after the show and he autographed my covers of Strikes,Tomcattin and Skynyrds First and Last.. Cool guy.
The bass player is Tim Stinson though I do not know where he is today. Benny Rappa is on drums. He was at one time in White Face and Liz Larin. As much as the original band was great, Mark Woerpel was great to.
i went to the knebworth fayre in '84 to see the deep purple reunion gig, had never heard of blackfoot before then; these guys stole theshow in my opinion!! how many bands could be this great, and even do wishin well better than free?? awesome!!
I have to disagree with you I saw them a few years ago they where special guest to Deep Purple in Dublin and they blew Purples ass of the stage they rocked from begining to end
who underrated them then? and the song? I read somewhere that it was very special to get to the hitlist with a 7 minute song and the band is great and surely skynyrd recognized rickey's brilliancy!
@hiwayman0 Thanks Hiway. I have been looking for the Sweden show for years. I am happy with the quality. Those old concerts were never meant to be on DVD.
electric!....enough said. blackfoot has been and will be among the top,no matter witch vidio, i knoe i spelled the word wrong!...lol sorry i was eating a milkyway! lol, hahahah
By the end of that Tour We ended up opening for them. Lot of road stories from the tour. I worked with the manaement for a bunch of years. Great times. I think this line up is the best line up Blackfoot ever had., Ricky, Mark Woerpel,Tim Stinsun and Benny Rappa-- Hell yea.....

I hear you loud and clear
I like the 1979 version better... But Ricky is still awesome!!
Could listen to Ricky Rattlesnake sing and pick all day long! This song is to Blackfoot what Freebird is to Skynyrd or Whipping Post is to the Allman Brothers, or Green Grass and High Tides is to the Outlaws.
That's for sure!
Sometimes I actually do
Damn right!
You sho got that right!!!!!!
Well said. 💪💪

Rickey Medlocke. you are amazing. Thank you

Amazing performance by Rickey and that configuration of the band.
Listening to Blackfoot 36 years and counting...thank you for the incredible music, love from UK !!
Me too!!! Keep rocking rattlesnake!
Rickey is the best, but I sure do miss him singing.
I'm sure Skynyrd must be a sweet deal for him,

Rickey frickin' Medlocke. Can't get any better than that. Skynrd should let him do the singing.
rickey sang white dove with skynyrd.
@@d.b.rackstrawd.b.rackstraw1785 and Seasons, long ago and before they became famous.

Rickey was one great frontman with Black Foot, saw the original band twice, alot of energy
Saw Blackfoot open for the Who in 1980. Some great mind altering substances that night, but I still remember how Medlocke and the boys got the crowd ready for Townsend and Daltry. Great show!
Amen about them being underrated. Rickey Medlocke owns.

One of the greatest songs in the world
I will ALWAYS LOVE Rickey Medlocke
Saw these guys in 1982. My God, they were loud. IIRC they supported Frank Marino or the Scorpions. Melodic rock at its finest.
Probably one of the greatest outro's in the history of rock
Beautiful song
Rickey has great tone here as always....just listen to his solo from 5:45 or so on.
The other guy however has horrendously bad tone......and kinda kills the vibe because of that for a few moments with his lead at the start of the song.
Maybe there best recording Live. But They Sounded and was Way Better Live.
Blackfoot's Free Bird!Rickey knew how to get a crowd going!
SOUTHERN ROCKERS,Rock the best...
The bass player is Tim Stinson though I do not know where he is today. Benny Rappa is on drums. He was at one time in White Face and Liz Larin.
One of my top 10 favorite songs of all time Blackfoot is one of the best bands

Except Led Zeppelin. . . just saying. . .

Ricky needs to quit Skynyrd right now. They are only a tribute band now and they've lost their true sense of direction.
The bass player is Tim Stinson though I do not know where he is today. Benny Rappa is on drums. He was at one time in White Face and Liz Larin.
As much as the original band was great, Mark Woerpel was great to.
I had Already moved To Tennessee from WV at this Time. BlackFoot Rocks.
i went to the knebworth fayre in '84 to see the deep purple reunion gig, had never heard of blackfoot before then; these guys stole theshow in my opinion!! how many bands could be this great, and even do wishin well better than free?? awesome!!

The other guitar player here is Mark Woerpel. He is also the lead guitarist and lead vocalist for the Band - Warp Drive, out of Detroit.
@hiwayman0 Thanks Hiway. I have been looking for the
Sweden show for years. I am happy with the quality. Those
old concerts were never meant to be on DVD.
I love this song more than any song I've heard and my sister can sing it right to point it's great I love you all
electric!....enough said. blackfoot has been and will be among the top,no matter witch vidio, i knoe i spelled the word wrong!...lol sorry i was eating a milkyway! lol, hahahah
EXCELLENT.
awesome band
Rick the Rattlesnake Medlocke is one of the best badass musicians ever! Saw Blackfoot in a small club in Dundalk,Md in 1990!
First time I saw Blackfoot was at Florida Jam 1 in 1984. They rocked it then and now.
just great....I see them for a first time...just great....I guees he isd aan one old soul from 80??
molly hatched were too drunk to play , so blackfoot did the job, that`s all.....
this is a good proof why rock music is 1000% better than this techno crap!
Allan Collins' Explorer is at the r&r hall of fame and museum in Cleveland.
Saw backdoor support the scorpions they were superb
Was macht da Medlocke mit diesen Metal-Friseurinnen? Ach Gott, Blackfoot ist was anderes!!!
