Back seats are quite small, so it’s the trunk space, even the trunk space is most than enough for most people. My wife had and macan GTS 2017 and she changed it to a GLC only due to space in the back. Still the Macan it’s the best looking SUV out there, and the engine in the GTS was 😍
OMG finally!!! That was the one element severely lacking from all of your prior reviews…. When everything was said and done I had no clue how large the interior space was or how much luggage space was on offer. It helps tremendously when stating how tall you are as well, so please keep it up, it’s definitely appreciated!
My Porsche dealership experience itself has always been great, but you guys aren't wrong about delaying on "cheaper" models. Was stuck between a Spyder and GTS 4.0, the wait for Spyder was 8-12 months, GTS 4.0 would have been well over a year IF they could even get one. Obviously I went for the Spyder haha
My absolute dream car, everything that you need. Amazing looks, good performance, gorgeous porsche interior, and enough space for my friends/family/dog. I might rather go for the cayenne if I had the money but honeslty these looks are better (not including the gt turbo)

@@quixomega i think its due to the “old” platform the Macan is still build on, this model basically just got heavily face-lifted with new engines and better tech since it came out in 2014, but never got a full refresh with a new platform. The Macans chassis is derived from Audi’s last gen Q5 platform (2008-2017), which i believe was not made to support a HUD. Porsche offers HUD’s in the bigger Cayenne SUV, so its not like they don’t have any, there must be some limiting factor and i bet its the platform.
I traded 2018 Macan for my 2020 C43 GLC ....on Friday traded the C43 for a base 2022 Macan.....lost 100 HP and would not know it....and the ride and steering is head and shoulders better than the C43 Couch....eerrr GLC

It would be neat to see how they stack up to newer cars and what they offered. Also, could be useful for anyone buying a used car. Porsche cars are hardy to buy now because lack of supply and allocations. Pricing is higher than normal. I found that the X3 was much easier and more affordable for a very nice vehicle and great value.
Genesis is 2 tiers lower than Porsche (Japanese fanboys will say it's 3 tiers lower because they will think genesis sits even lower than Lexus and Acura do)...so yes, you definitely will get the value out of it because it's considered a budget-friendly brand compared to Porsche.
Nothing new, the Macan was always the benchmark in this segment already in 2014. Build-quality, performance, handling and driving experience still to the edge. The only drawback are maintenance cost, which depending on the market can be very high in comparison to its sister: Audi Q5. Yes, many do not know, the Macan is classified a Q5 model variation (German Law).
Another great one from TSP. Love the Macan! The little clock above the center stack is a must have for blasting down the 401 during rush hour. That is how you know you have arrived.
Another great video, thanks. Since you're doing base models, how about that new RWD BMW 230i in M Sport trim? I'm sure you'd dig driving it, and not a lot of folks reviewing it. I know, everyone wants the M240 X Drive, but as a purist's car, the 230 beats the current M240 IMO!
Good looking vehicle, but i wish the rear end wasn't so angled. It eats up too much cargo space, and looks "cute ute". Spend a little more and get the Cayenne.
Rented a base macan over the summer. The engine felt very underpowered - almost dangerously slow in some cases. Agree that pretty much all the other 4 cyl competitors feel much more like responsive. My other issue with this car was the seat position and comfort - my back was killing me after about an hour. Really disliked this car - actually wished I had gone with the 530 rental that was also available.
I’ve had a Macan S loaner for a week. I really don’t care for the engine calibration. It’s quite jerky if you’re loafing around. If you hammer it, it’s quite a bit better. Too bad.
The transmission adapts to how the driver(s) use (and abuse) it. Loaner cars will always be a poor sample of how an adaptive transmission functions normally when the previous 50 drivers drove it like they stole it.
You reckon that’s better than quad pipes? 😳 And base 911 is the worst Porsche exhaust design imho. The massive plastic cladding around the fake diffuser area looks like it’s from a budget Japanese crossover…
We've currently got a 2017 S model and we're considering getting into a 2022 S but drove a new X3 M40i recently and I was pretty impressed. Very quick! I'm not so sure the Macan is worth the extra 25k or so 🤷
The first shipments and allocations for the 2022’s were actually the base cars. They sell way more lightly optioned base Macans than anything else. Given they know where their bread is buttered it isn’t hard at all to a get a lightly optioned one. Your tester actually has a lot of options. In fact that matte texture on the dash panel is leather and that is a fairly pricey upgrade over the standard Piano Black (though wood and Aluminium are now available at no extra cost)
Actually........ You're mistaken. That vehicle has partial leather, and the dash is a mix of textured soft touch vinyl (Mojave beige) on the lower, and black on the upper, with the black brushed aluminum as the interior trim which can be an assortment of different materials, like carbon fiber, or painted, ect. The option you are thinking of is a $2,000+ dollar option where the lowers in that Mojave beige color is actually swapped out for smooth leather. It's confusing, but once you see one in person that has the standard interior next to one with extended full leather.... You'll be able to get a better feel for what Porsche means by their varying interior "trim" options.
@@9fiveb180 I was speaking on the area where the wood, Aluminum, or carbon would go. This particular one has it in smooth leather which is optional and very rare on these. If you go back and look carefully you’ll see that it’s a matte material that looks soft. Non-GTS Macans are not available with black aluminum, just the regular silver kind which is now a no cost option Stateside.
A year late to conversation but the Macan production line doesn't work that way. The Macan and Panamera are produced at the same time, on the same production line in Leipzig. It produces different spec cars and SUVs sequentially as needed. There are documentaries where they show how different colors, engines, spec and vehicle type fluctuate on the production line. A black Panamera Turbo with red alcantara can be followed by a white Macan with a plaid leather interior.
Good review of a base model, that is good to see. Often only up-model versions are reviewed but some of us are aiming a little lower as a starting point into a brand. Your videography and editing are quite good.
Porsche is usually best in class, but also usually most expensive by far so it’s not really that impressive. It better dominate it’s section of the market for that price lol
6:15: haha ... I bought a new base Macan as my *third* Porsche (after two Panameras) because it's the best value in a Porsche, by far ... And the engine is excellent, lots of pep and good acceleration, as you'd expect from nearly 300 lb-ft of torque... People get obsessed with 400, 500, 600 hp, but seriously those levels of power are unnecessary for people if you don't drive on the Autobahn or on tracks; people tend to lose track of reality. The base Macan is a seriously good car to drive, including at high speeds (very stable and planted). I almost bought a Macan S, then decided that it really wasn't that much better than a base Macan to warrant the much-higher price -- after multiple test drives of both. And the base gets way better gas mileage than does the S.

Always go for the S - the 4 cylinder is ok, but ist feels it struggles with the car and has to rev high to move. Fuel economy is almost same between base and S. The V6 feels so much better.
@@avol3xo stage 1 (tune only) on e40 nets 480-490hp and just over 600ft-lbs of torque, imagine the launch. 600ft lbs at 2400rpm is nuts! On e60-e85, it’ll make 500-510hp and 585ft-lbs of torque, the peak torque number is lower, but it actually makes more torque over the entire rev range.
Agree. The base has less HP, Torque, and performance than much cheaper competitors, but costs more. Much better to go for the S with a 6 cyl that isn't just another VW motor.
I've watched this video over 10 times now now for peace of mind. Great review and can't wait for my 2022 base to come in next month. Sucks the S model is impossible to get which was my first preference. Switching over from an X3, so excited to enter the gateway of the porsche brand.
Buy the previous model in GTS spec, or if you get lucky and find a Turbo with all of the GTS’s features (namely the air suspension) PLUS sport chrono, get that one. NEVER buy a base Macan. The S at least gets you PDK, but the real magic of the Macan is that the air suspension (standard in the GTS, but only a 50/50 shot on the used Turbos) let’s you drive to vmax while staying all the way low. When you put it all together the previous model GTS is the best all around 1 vehicle buy under $50k…and no gloss back dash.
When we went to buy our Macan (in 2019), we had base model in mind. As we were adding options, price quickly rose up (because Porsche). So the porsche guy goes like: "look, it is getting into high Macan S numbers, we do not have macan S currently, but we have Macan GTS in shop. Wouldn't you want to try it?". 25 minutes later, we were ordering Macan GTS :D. You dont have to sell porsches, these cars sell themselves :D :D :D. (Also, incredible car. I am in love.)
When I was deciding between the Macan S or X3 M40i, I ultimately went with the X3 M40i because exactly of the additional headspace and legroom in the back. But the Macan looks a lot better than the X3 in my mind.
While the interior materials are a tad better in this Porsche, I'd still opt for an Alfa Romeo Stelvio over this. That's why I bought one. 280 bhp and 305 lbs. torque.
Just got this 2022 macan 1 week ago! Absolutley love it as a first time porsche owner. So far everything is pretty similar to what you said. I noticed the same thing you mentioned about the engine, but roughly 1000kms in I feel like its starting to get smoother as I drive it more on a daily basis. Plus the car is starting to pop and bruble alot more in sport mode 1st gear 3k-4k range.
Love our base model Macan! Test driving it back to back with a Q5, X3 and Passport it was clear the Macan is so much better. Bought it in the first months of the pandemic with a big discount. Does a great job towing the racecar as well!
I drove my sister's 2020 Macan S before. Love how the PDK shifts. Sometimes I wish I got that over the 2020 Q8, but then Q8 serves different purposes. We were lucky to get ours before the chip shortage with better deals.
I have a Q5 sportback, gotta say EA888 isn’t far off from EA839, such a smooth engine, however Porsche’s improved dl501 does shift quicker and the car handles better
I've always liked the Macan, but for what a base one sells in your brotherly states to the south, the better purchase is a BMW X3 M40i with the B58 turbo 3.0L engine and ZF 8 speed transmission.
i built an S in the US. came exactly to what i spec’d out. i ordered it in August and it arrived in december- which was earlier than the expected date they gave me of April. i love the S- it’s the goldilocks version of the 3 trims. it gets you the engine of last years GTS, with the cleaned up interior of 2022. my only gripe is no full screen carplay. that stinks
i dont think id ever get a new car without carplay. Even the most basic cars have it. I'd be using the car for a few years and for the price tag, and since its a feature i'd use every time i get in, not having car play would instantly put it on the do not by list
@@himalayapatel2052 i agree 100%. the macan has carplay it’s just not full screen which is annoying. there are widgets to the right of it that will hide in any other instance, but car play is reduced to 2/3 screen. it’s usable, but when driving you really want big dumb buttons. large tap targets. touch is un-intuitive when driving- any road noise or even a slight turn makes it hard to tap. i wish car companies realized carplay and android auto are always going to be superior. it’s everything on your phone (music/podcasts/audible) easily accessible and better gps apps than anything they could install. just let drivers do what they want to do with that giant screen you put in there.
Considering the next-gen Mecan is supposed to go fully EV, this might be the bargain ICE Porsche to buy right now. Love the looks, it's always been my favorite German SUV. Great review guys!
It is a really good looking car, unlike some of the other high end suvs. I like the interior of Porsches as well. They are simple and have real gauges.

Bought a 21 GTS just to avoid the gloss center console and that big wide mouth in the front, looks a bit ridiculous especially in a lighter paint color.
I leased a base 2021 Macan and absolutely love it. Completely agree that it is a starter Porsche meant to get you into the brand. I can state that it is difficult for me to plan on driving anything else moving forward (I realize I am lucky to be in the situation) ... I hope to upgrade to a Taycan next. Overall the drive and feel for the road are unlike anything else I have driven. It's a fun car to drive and the brand experience at the dealership is top notch. No upselling, they know what they offer and are excited for new buyers as they know they will get you hooked. Macan EV will be awesome to see soon!

Good first time Porsche owner. I got a 2018 Macan with 13,000 miles for a great price and I’m definitely getting a 911 in a few years. Good starter Porsche. I’m happy with it.
With gas for this SUV set to go to $5 a gallon nationwide this summer. How many people are really going to buy this vehicle. People need to know what they are getting themselves into. Understanding fuel costs and maintenance cost would be wise before paying a premium for a badge. Looking at the performance and utility this model is nothing more than a badge and an expensive one to boot.
Haha I totally disagree. Genesis is so ostentatious and ugly. Of course this my opinion. I do think the smaller version looks more tasteful, and the lights and grill will capture ones attention........just don't know if it's good attention.
Hopefully you guys get to review the 2022 GTS since it is now more rigid, better suspension, and received the Turbo's engine. I have one on order with a March delivery, but really hoping you guys get your hands on one. Great videos, as always.

Dealers in Arizona are asking $85K for base model Macans. Probably optioned to the hilt, but still.
I’d get the GV70 twin turbo V6 fully loaded instead for around this same price, more tech and more horsepower.

It's confusing, but once you see one in person that has the standard interior next to one with extended full leather.... You'll be able to get a better feel for what Porsche means by their varying interior "trim" options.
@@9fiveb180 I was speaking on the area where the wood, Aluminum, or carbon would go. This particular one has it in smooth leather which is optional and very rare on these. If you go back and look carefully you’ll see that it’s a matte material that looks soft. Non-GTS Macans are not available with black aluminum, just the regular silver kind which is now a no cost option Stateside.
A year late to conversation but the Macan production line doesn't work that way. The Macan and Panamera are produced at the same time, on the same production line in Leipzig. It produces different spec cars and SUVs sequentially as needed. There are documentaries where they show how different colors, engines, spec and vehicle type fluctuate on the production line. A black Panamera Turbo with red alcantara can be followed by a white Macan with a plaid leather interior.
Appreciate the extra attention payed to the trunk space! The box test is missed, but this is a nice compromise!

Good review of a base model, that is good to see. Often only up-model versions are reviewed but some of us are aiming a little lower as a starting point into a brand. Your videography and editing are quite good.

Porsche is usually best in class, but also usually most expensive by far so it’s not really that impressive. It better dominate it’s section of the market for that price lol
6:15: haha ... I bought a new base Macan as my *third* Porsche (after two Panameras) because it's the best value in a Porsche, by far ... And the engine is excellent, lots of pep and good acceleration, as you'd expect from nearly 300 lb-ft of torque... People get obsessed with 400, 500, 600 hp, but seriously those levels of power are unnecessary for people if you don't drive on the Autobahn or on tracks; people tend to lose track of reality. The base Macan is a seriously good car to drive, including at high speeds (very stable and planted). I almost bought a Macan S, then decided that it really wasn't that much better than a base Macan to warrant the much-higher price -- after multiple test drives of both. And the base gets way better gas mileage than does the S.

Always go for the S - the 4 cylinder is ok, but ist feels it struggles with the car and has to rev high to move. Fuel economy is almost same between base and S. The V6 feels so much better.
Love my 2019 S, I may tune it to get turbo stock power but I really don't need it daily.
Love my ‘17 S also. But if I couldn’t afford the S, I would without hesitation get the base, bc it’s such an excellent car anyway.
Especially with the 2022 S which has the old GTS engine and HP in it. That's the sweet spot considering the GTS is the new Turbo.

On e60-e85, it’ll make 500-510hp and 585ft-lbs of torque, the peak torque number is lower, but it actually makes more torque over the entire rev range.
Agree. The base has less HP, Torque, and performance than much cheaper competitors, but costs more. Much better to go for the S with a 6 cyl that isn't just another VW motor.
I've watched this video over 10 times now now for peace of mind. Great review and can't wait for my 2022 base to come in next month. Sucks the S model is impossible to get which was my first preference. Switching over from an X3, so excited to enter the gateway of the porsche brand.

Buy the previous model in GTS spec, or if you get lucky and find a Turbo with all of the GTS’s features (namely the air suspension) PLUS sport chrono, get that one. NEVER buy a base Macan. The S at least gets you PDK, but the real magic of the Macan is that the air suspension (standard in the GTS, but only a 50/50 shot on the used Turbos) let’s you drive to vmax while staying all the way low. When you put it all together the previous model GTS is the best all around 1 vehicle buy under $50k…and no gloss back dash.

When we went to buy our Macan (in 2019), we had base model in mind. As we were adding options, price quickly rose up (because Porsche). So the porsche guy goes like: "look, it is getting into high Macan S numbers, we do not have macan S currently, but we have Macan GTS in shop. Wouldn't you want to try it?". 25 minutes later, we were ordering Macan GTS :D. You dont have to sell porsches, these cars sell themselves :D :D :D. (Also, incredible car. I am in love.)
How much was the montly payment?
When I was deciding between the Macan S or X3 M40i, I ultimately went with the X3 M40i because exactly of the additional headspace and legroom in the back. But the Macan looks a lot better than the X3 in my mind.

I considered the GLC and X3, test drove a Macan on a whim and the Macan is about two tiers above either of those cars. I got the Macan, not contest.
While the interior materials are a tad better in this Porsche, I'd still opt for an Alfa Romeo Stelvio over this. That's why I bought one. 280 bhp and 305 lbs. torque.

Just got this 2022 macan 1 week ago! Absolutley love it as a first time porsche owner. So far everything is pretty similar to what you said. I noticed the same thing you mentioned about the engine, but roughly 1000kms in I feel like its starting to get smoother as I drive it more on a daily basis. Plus the car is starting to pop and bruble alot more in sport mode 1st gear 3k-4k range.
Love our base model Macan! Test driving it back to back with a Q5, X3 and Passport it was clear the Macan is so much better. Bought it in the first months of the pandemic with a big discount. Does a great job towing the racecar as well!
I drove my sister's 2020 Macan S before. Love how the PDK shifts. Sometimes I wish I got that over the 2020 Q8, but then Q8 serves different purposes. We were lucky to get ours before the chip shortage with better deals.
I have a Q5 sportback, gotta say EA888 isn’t far off from EA839, such a smooth engine, however Porsche’s improved dl501 does shift quicker and the car handles better

I've always liked the Macan, but for what a base one sells in your brotherly states to the south, the better purchase is a BMW X3 M40i with the B58 turbo 3.0L engine and ZF 8 speed transmission.
i built an S in the US. came exactly to what i spec’d out. i ordered it in August and it arrived in december- which was earlier than the expected date they gave me of April.
i love the S- it’s the goldilocks version of the 3 trims. it gets you the engine of last years GTS, with the cleaned up interior of 2022. my only gripe is no full screen carplay. that stinks
My 21 cayenne gts doesn’t have full screen CarPlay either. Annoying. Congrats on your new Macan!

i dont think id ever get a new car without carplay. Even the most basic cars have it. I'd be using the car for a few years and for the price tag, and since its a feature i'd use every time i get in, not having car play would instantly put it on the do not by list
@@himalayapatel2052 we mean CarPlay spanning the full large in dash screen. We have CarPlay, it’s just like 2/3 of the overall screen lol.
@@himalayapatel2052 i agree 100%. the macan has carplay it’s just not full screen which is annoying. there are widgets to the right of it that will hide in any other instance, but car play is reduced to 2/3 screen. it’s usable, but when driving you really want big dumb buttons. large tap targets. touch is un-intuitive when driving- any road noise or even a slight turn makes it hard to tap.
i wish car companies realized carplay and android auto are always going to be superior. it’s everything on your phone (music/podcasts/audible) easily accessible and better gps apps than anything they could install. just let drivers do what they want to do with that giant screen you put in there.
Considering the next-gen Mecan is supposed to go fully EV, this might be the bargain ICE Porsche to buy right now. Love the looks, it's always been my favorite German SUV. Great review guys!
It is a really good looking car, unlike some of the other high end suvs. I like the interior of Porsches as well. They are simple and have real gauges.

Bought a 21 GTS just to avoid the gloss center console and that big wide mouth in the front, looks a bit ridiculous especially in a lighter paint color.

I leased a base 2021 Macan and absolutely love it. Completely agree that it is a starter Porsche meant to get you into the brand. I can state that it is difficult for me to plan on driving anything else moving forward (I realize I am lucky to be in the situation) ... I hope to upgrade to a Taycan next. Overall the drive and feel for the road are unlike anything else I have driven. It's a fun car to drive and the brand experience at the dealership is top notch. No upselling, they know what they offer and are excited for new buyers as they know they will get you hooked. Macan EV will be awesome to see soon!
Macan rear seat room is poor, given the overall size of the vehicle.

With gas for this SUV set to go to $5 a gallon nationwide this summer. How many people are really going to buy this vehicle. People need to know what they are getting themselves into. Understanding fuel costs and maintenance cost would be wise before paying a premium for a badge. Looking at the performance and utility this model is nothing more than a badge and an expensive one to boot.
You should drive more base models since so many people drive these. I ordered a Macan T which is essentially abase and it is awesome.
The Genesis GV70 is making the Macan look like a bad deal.
Haha I totally disagree. Genesis is so ostentatious and ugly. Of course this my opinion. I do think the smaller version looks more tasteful, and the lights and grill will capture ones attention........just don't know if it's good attention.
Hopefully you guys get to review the 2022 GTS since it is now more rigid, better suspension, and received the Turbo's engine. I have one on order with a March delivery, but really hoping you guys get your hands on one. Great videos, as always.
