Great work guys, thanks. I bought a Macan S earlier this year. I'm one of those strange people that wants a very sporty SUV! Personally I feel like I need an SUV - I live in Sydney, Australia. My driveway and also in-laws, friends, often are steep and awkward and normal cars bottom out. Speed bumps (in parks, at the beach) get bigger as more people drive SUVs and utes. And the roads are a bit rubbish off the highway. Basically we live in a city where - in the suburbs - an SUV is a lot easier to live with. I know it's subjective, but I'm never going back to a car as my daily drive. My kids have their own cars, the back seats are very rarely used, and with the seats down the boot is actually quite big, great for all our stuff for a weekend away with the missus. I optioned Air suspension, (PASM comes standard here), the torque vector rear diff, sports chrono and a bunch of other 'driving' options and I love it. Air suspension drops it down a noticeable bit lower in Sports Plus and I feel like it makes as close as an suv is going to get to a hatchback for ripping through corners on back roads (which I do regularly btw, every few days I sneak off for a rip!). I tried all the alternative SUVs (X3M40i, GLC43, SQ5 etc) and they are amazing in a straight line but (again subjective I know) besides that I don't think they are a patch on the Macan, if you care about the 'fun drive' experience rather than a cruiser. I would love a Cayman but (and yes, I know, the Macan is not a sports car) but I feel like I get 80% of the fun in the Macan and it's a great daily driver too. I would never buy the Turbo, the S is plenty fast for me unless I wanted to take it to a track. In which case I'd get the Cayman or similar as my weekender. Keep up the great work, love the reviews.
Thank you Thomas and James for this... I've really missed you guys being able to drive the cars and review them. I've enjoyed watching your quarantine videos but it feels great to see you guys out there together and back at it. I'm so looking forward to the future uploads. #ThrottleHouse4Life #Return2Form
I think Throttle House needs to do a review of a current (2023-2024) Macan GTS. It will completely change their perspective on this little hot hatch from Porsche. Its a riot!
Fun fact: the word 'macan' does mean tiger in Indonesian. The 'ma' is pronounced like it is in 'mark' and the 'c' is pronounced like how 'ch' is in 'channel'. Kind of like 'matcha' minus the 't' and with an 'n' added. If you keep the hard c sound, you get the Indonesian word for 'eat'.
That’s the equivalent of VW’s AFS (adaptive front headlight system) it can pivot the headlight projectors up down and left right (up down for auto leveling when you are on a hill, left right for following the turn/curve). When the car starts the ignition, the system needs to do a quick calibration, hence the ´eyes movements’. Although personally I think it’s more of a gimmick (the calibration part)
@@pfsantos007 Very few new cars use Xenons now, definitely not the one in this video. Also, I don't recall Xenon using reflectors? I thought they use projectors. Also how the hell do you pivot a reflector housing?
I rented a Macan Turbo though Turo last year, and it is probably the best vehicle I've ever driven. There are cars I've driven that are more fun, but it's still entertaining. There are cars I've driven that handle better, but the Macan is really sharp in Sport Plus. There are nicer interior spaces in cars, but the Macan has really great build quality and comfy seats. It simply does everything well, while not being totally numb or boring to drive. It's actually very expensive though... that's the thing that would keep me away from the Turbo trim level, even if I am having a hard time imagining the Macan any other way.
Just in case noone else says it: I really like the new camera perspective from inside the car looking at the road while driving. It's a great addition to your already great camera work.
We had two sons, aged about 6 and 4 when the Cayenne came out, and I thought, why in the world would someone want to buy a Porsche SUV?! Then the idea started to grow on me. We’ve owned 4-5 SUVs now, but never a Porsche. As I’ve gotten older and the kids are mostly independent, I’m more drawn to the Macan, just as a practical but still fun daily driver. Now I’d rather have the Macan than the larger Cayenne. I’ll still never buy either one, but it’s funny how tastes change as we get older.
