i have kids, got the macan. almost went with the cayenne but it felt like too much like a "suv"

Macan GTS is the closest you’ll get to a 911 crossover. For a Porsche enthusiast, Macan GTS, is the winner.
I have a Macan Turbo; previously a Cayenne Turbo. Both are thunderous beauties. Yet there are some “surprises” not obvious to the eye. For example: the Cayenne has a tighter chassis and a much smaller turning radius than does the Macan - in case you make U-turns occasionally. For those who service their own as labor of love, please know that there is no dip stick on the Macan: you need to run the engine and watch the oil pressure gauge.

I am leaning towards the Macan, but I will have to drive both for myself. My wife and I would prefer something that feels more like a sporty sedan.

The missing switches in trunk are not for tumbling rear seats. It is for the optional trailer hitch to put down into working position or hide if not used.

I like the Macan better. Just a bit more compact, which I prefer.
But both are magnificent cars. Top quality, as you expect from Porsche.
I think in the UK's major cities, the Macan makes much more sense, size-wise. Otherwise, I think it wholly depends on how big you are, and whether or not you need a 2nd row that will comfortably accommodate 5'9"+ adults. Very good cars that are now very mature products, but I think the strange absence of Android Auto in the Macan is likely a deal-breaker for many prospective buyers, although the Macan clearly sells very well nonetheless.

Interior looks much better in the Cayenne. Both cars have good looking infotainment systems that are integrated with the dash as opposed to the tablet look used by some manufacturers that appear more like an afterthought.
sadly enough. mercedes beats this interiors by a landslide even in A class

Tested both. Bought cayenne gts coupe with lightweight sport package. A more stable ride IMO.

Owned a Macan and own a Cayenne e-hybrid. Cayenne blows it out if the water. I probably will never own a different car.

I’d have to go with the Cayenne. It looks so much better to me especially the brown leather interior mixed with that stunning dark olive color. Like you said it’s a very mature and sophisticated look! Both are amazing cars of course!

If you can only get one car that serves both utility and fun, then Cayenne is a great choice. Personally, my 2 car garage is a Lexus ES for everyday and 911 Turbo for fun.

Hope you enjoy it. I bought one last year when the GTS was not the Turbo and quite like it. Big upgrade over my 2016 Macan S.
How about compèring the Macan Turbo 2020 model and the new Macan GTS same engine and power but to see if they drive and sound the same .
i never hear anyone talk about the fact the Cayenne was built for off roading originally. the interior gives hints to it as well. the brace handles near both passenger and driver seats. and the power, size also show case it. i prefer the Macan GTS bc of its compact size and sport look. but the history of porsche SUV is interesting

What’s the price difference?
I am a family man with two grown children and I would choose Macan GTS every time. It's essentially the same story as with Cayman vs. 911. Keep it simple and less is usually more :)
Depends on whether you need the extra space. It is a family car after all.
@@almac9203 Two grown children would seem to rule out the Macan, IMO. But I guess it depends how big you all are. I am only 5'10"/178cm, and I can't sit behind myself in the Macan. And less is not more if you want to use Android Auto. Not being combative, just saying.
The Cayman is a great car. Most people don't need the two occasional seats in the 911, and the two boots in the Cayman make it very practical. The 911 obviously has different dynamics and a different image. If image is not an issue, then obviously choose whichever you prefer. Maybe it's just me, but I tend to think of the Cayman as a young man's car. And for me, it's not about what others think, but what I think about myself. Then again, the GTS 4.0 is a compelling package, regardless, and a signiicant saving over a base 911 with an arguably inferior engine. The Boxster GTS 4.0 is an even more compelling package compared to a base 911 Cabriolet.
If you haven't already, be sure to take the whole family on a test drive before buying a Macan. And before ordering a new Cayman, be sure to test both seat options.
I also think the 2L Macan T should not be dismissed. The V6 isn't that characterful, although in the GTS it has an abundance of power, which is nice if money is no object. I'm not sure the V8 in the Cayenne makes that much sense outside the US market, but I can take or leave a V8, as I tend to prefer the sound of a good V6.
At the end of the day, I guess there's either no right answer, or it very much depends on the individual. Fortunately, Porsche and others offer an abundance of choice to cater for almost every taste and requirement.
If I had to choose between a Macan and a Cayenne, I'd probably choose a Cayenne S with a number of options, but that's just me. If I were choosing a 911 or a Cayman, I'd choose a Cabriolet or a Boxster, because less (roof) is certainly more. ;-)
If you’re a family of midgets then the macan would be just fine. Otherwise the backseat behind the driver is nonexistent if the driver is anywhere close to 6 feet.
Excellent review. Having owned 3 Macans, an S and two Turbos, and now a 2021 Cayenne GTS, you are spot on. Only slight thing I would take issue with is, while you are correct you sit lower in the Macan, I never feel like I am sitting high in the Cayenne. I do wonder if my PCM can be upgraded like what I see on the car I. This video. My screen on CarPlay uses only half the screen. Pretty poor. I do miss the PDK though.

@@luvtiti I think that's correct. The Macan is great up until the point when you want to comfortably transport people other than children and small adults in the second row. At that point you need a Cayenne. I wouldn't have thought that most people would want both a Macan and a Cayenne at the same time. But, I guess, in a typical family with two adults that want two cars, they may well prefer both to be SUVs. One will prefer something more compact as a daily, and the other will have to drive the family mover as a daily, or they'll have to have three cars. A problem only arises if both would prefer to drive the more compact SUV as a daily. Typically, however, there is no problem. And, I guess it's all good if that were to be be a family's only 'problem'. Good luck choosing!
Macan is the X3/Q5/GLC/NX while the Cayenne is the X5/Q7/GLE/RX equivalent of the other brands. Depends on your style, I prefer the Cayenne.
i went from a big audi q7 down to a 2022 macan S. i was just tired of the bigger SUVs. i love the size/weight and handling of the macan. still fits my kids and things… but so much more fun to drive - and easy to park
How much did it cost at the dealership?
I have SQ7 with 4 wheel steering and active anti roll bars and it's super agile
We did the same thing. Went from a BMW X5 to a 2022 Macan S. The only thing I miss is the soft close doors and better back up camera. Though the Macan drives so much better and feels so well put together.

@@mortensenvick5711 never happened. Was odd as before I had them I would have said they are useless. Now after 8 years of them on my BMW I do miss not having to slam a door shut.
It engages when the door is pretty shut so there is very little chance of your finger getting stuck.
I've owned a cayenne s for around 3 years now, and while it's a brilliant car, I do think it's a little too big for UK roads and car parks. If I chose again, I'd probably go for the macan

The only reason I would get a cayenne over a Macan would be if I needed to tow a lot of weight. But even the Macan has a good towing capacity for its size
Macan is too wide too. They are a problem when parking on average width roads will get clipped
Macan is better looking, but Cayenne's performance & ride are for sure superior

Macan vs Cayenne is like the Cayman (boxster) vs 911.. i find the cayenne more solid. They are all amazing Porsches :)
Well, the Cayman is the sports car out of those two. The latest 911, outside of the GT cars, is a tourer now. So I’d take the Mayan based on that comparison.
@@final_mile_music9713 I drove a new GT3 and my 993 back to back at a track last year. The 911 is still a 911. I did drive the race car version of a new one, but the size didn’t reduce the performance. 911 is still king and I have space for my kids in the back to bring them to school everyday. :)
Both the Cayenne and Macan are luxury crossover SUVs. Since 2003, the Cayenne became Porsche's first car with more than 2 doors, a mid-size luxury crossover SUV and saves the brand of Porsche when it was struggling in that time. Ever since its evolution since the past few years, the Macan came in 2014 as a smaller version of the Cayenne as a compact luxury crossover SUV.

I've had both and both are awesome. Currently have a Macan GTS. Even when I switch to one of my other Porsche's in the summer I miss it. Macan is more like a sports car.

I own a Macan S its the same as this one just the GTS has more tuning. However, at the end of the Video the macan does have pops and bangs when the gear changes at (Normal and sport mode). But in Sport+ mode the shifting of gear happens so quick that there are no pops same as the end of the video.
Sport can sound better than Sport+ indeed

Macan GTS all the way but if you have a big family its different. I drove both, the Macan GTS is more agile and the price depends on the options you prefer.
If you want thicc, you get Cayenne.
If you want smol, you get Macan.
That's literally it.
I love the Macan and I would never dissuade anyone from getting it. It drives so well. Personally I would still choose the Cayenne for a few reasons. I already have a sports car as a second car and the Cayenne drives so well compared to anything the same size that it works. It's not as good on the Macan but already having a sports car it's fine. The Cayenne just has more road presence, gets a bit more attention and that's something I want if I have an SUV. Sure, it's not a G-Wagon but the Cayenne GTS gets placed in more valets whereas a Macan GTS won't. Not important to some but it's important to me. The rear seat is also more spacious for passengers on slightly longer journeys. If I am going to have an SUV I want decent rear seats. It's all about personal preference, both are wonderful but the Cayenne GTS makes more sense for me.
How about boot space? Is there a real world difference in experience?

What if your 6’ or 6’3” would the back seat work on the Macan ????? 5’8” everyone I guess it would work but what if your above average
6 feet is definitely the max height for the rear seats in the Macan and with a 6 foot driver in front of you it gives you an inch of knee space.
the cayenne is obviously the right choice here but the one thing the macan wins with is the sound, and its not even close, any porsche v6 is bound to sound absolutely incredible
Porsche needs to install grill mesh to protect those radiators. It's a guaranteed leak eventually from a rock hitting it at speed.
I'm only 5'10"/178cm and I can't sit behind myself in the Macan. IMO, the Macan is not suitable if you want to carry men in the 2nd row. It's okay for young families, and occasional use for small adults, but otherwise the Macan is simply too small in the 2nd row. If you set the driver's seat for Thomas, I think even AJ's knees would be cramped sitting behind him.

Great job with your in-depth review on both vehicles. I personally prefer the Macan because of its handling which Porsche does very well. When it comes to quality interior materials Porsche and Volvo are both top notch. I swear launch control never gets old in Macan GTS 33:50.

@@georget5699 I still stand by my word that Volvo's always have great interiors. The 2022 Volvo XC 40 up to the XC 90 all have phenomenal interiors.

Hi, Porsche Macan GTS is a car that combines two colors of red and black that I like.
I would always go for the cayenne 👍the design is nicer especially with dark exterior.. but macan is also nice and good cash cow for porsche companie because it's also selling well like cayenne
Porsche sells way more Macans than Cayennes. Imo, Macan looks also better
Macan would be my choice for the UK, better residuals as well (Cayennes drop like a stone) but it’s still a car with its roots in the 2007 Q5…I appreciate Porsche’s engineers have squeezed the platform and this is the 3rd refresh, but perhaps better and more modern (roomier) alternatives are around?

Traded in a 2016 Macan S with 70k miles and minor front end damage from a deer strike last April. Paid 62k new got 30k on trade. Yes, they keep value very well.
They still didnt get rid of that glare on the Cayenne windscreen!

If I won the lottery I would probably buy both. But I'll probably buy the Cayenne in a few years as I'm older now and prefer luxury foremost and performance second. Good objectified review.

Coté d'or elephant cholotates. I myself have 2 cayenne S 4.2 V8 TDI's. Chipped to 455hp 950nm torq 0-100 is prox 4.5sec now.
Always preferred the Macan because of the well rounded shape.
I think it looks better, but it's not very roomy inside. If 2nd row space isn't a priority, it's hard to look past the Macan...unless you want Android Auto.

Macan for me too. Looks so much better.
But, it should be a size thing, not a looks thing. The Macan is very compromised in the 2nd row. Obviously, if that doesn't matter to you, then you can choose either one, but only then. Logically, at least. Of course, it's your money, and you can choose whatever you want. If you've never seen both side by side, I can also tell you that the Cayenne is a step-up quality-wise.
