  • Picking up from the carpark at the Pinnacles Lookout we start to find our way down in the weather we've had close back in.
Starting out on the Castle Hill Track, we head down McDonald Gap Track and then onto Firetrail Track before the guys let me talk them into exiting the area via Castleburn Track and Scrubby Creek Track.
Today's video ends at the end of Castleburn Track, getting ready to hit Scrubby Track and for me, things almost go horribly wrong on Castleburn Track.
What starts off as a fairly easy controlled descent gets pretty crazy when we hit Castleburn Track.
Shout out to Dan, from Out There With Dan and his Iron Emu 90 Series. There will be some videos of these trips on Dan's channel in the future, in the interim, thanks mate for sharing some of the footage you took.

My brother and I did the descent in the dry from Billy Goat via Castle Hill, Junction and Castleburn March 2024 in a Nav with 50mm lift and 33s. Junction was very overgrown and Castleburn was deeply rutted by large wheel 4x4 and a No Through Road sign was posted at the junction with Black Range Track, we used Black Range and McDonald to get back to Dargo road. From videos we had seen before our trip on Scrubby Creek it was a brave move on your part to do it in the rain. Enjoyed the video

Thx mate, yeah doesn't surprise me Castleburn was closed by March. I'm guessing mostly for the section that was nearly collapsed into the river. We were lucky when we went through, was wet but hadn't been too rutted up yet and mostly had a a solid base.
Thx for the heads up on Junction still on my list to get back and drive again sometime!.

A mix of everything, well driven Jason, considering your tyres no lift, open diffs.
Certainly a different prospective on Track information in the wet, priceless.
    I don’t remember mentioning the 4 o’clock Track at the time , had a chuckle😂 ( it definitely is a thing.)
We certainly had a great time thank you for the opportunity.

Wow, that rain up the top was relentless. Me and Balls did Macdonald Gap in Apr/May, but we went up from the Dargo blacktop. A fun drive, but probably not in the rain. We were looking to go the Castleburn track but the start looked liked it was on private property so we went Macdonald instead. Mate the 76 ate it up, specially in the wet. Looking forward to watching the Scrubby track.
Thanks for the entertainment on a crappy Saturday morning, enjoyed much. Cheers mate, BobbyB.

Hey mate yeah it certainly was! Very different wet vs dry as usual at least you now know what to expect if you head back to do Castleburn track..... Scrubby is worse.... :-) or better, depending on your perspective! Always appreciate your comments and feedback!

It’s definitely a dry weather track, I drove Junction Spur a couple of years back to the Pinnacles, there’s a section there you would have no chance of getting up in the wet.
I reckon you guys need to bunch up a bit more in them conditions, I case something goes wrong with the last vehicles.
Nothings gunna go wrong up front… well maybe !! 🤦🏽🤣
Look forward to the next one.

Yeah wet weather changes everything! We generally stay pretty close, Dan and Paul weren't actually far behind Luca and I, just everyone drives at their own pace generally, and yeah, what could go wrong up front? Those trees just jump out at you sometimes.

Well you really did stuff that part up didn't you. Lucky though it could have been much worse, I thought it was going to be. Love how green the area got as well.

While i enjoy watching your videos i think you are a little silly continually doing these sort of trips with Road bias A/T's.

Hey Darren function of what was on the car when I bought it and available cash.... but don't worry only 1 more trip after this one and they were replaced with a much more suitable tyre. I was keen to see how big of a difference the 'right' tyres make. My conclusion is, some difference but not as much as we're lead to believe...
also, did not plan for this weather....... but you get that..

Nothing wrong with AT's, with pressures correct for the condition, you'd be surprised how far and well they perform. No need for dedicated muddies especially in summer conditions. Sure, muddies will help in extreme gumbo mud - to a point, and for winter driving would be the better choice. However, AT's for 95 percent of the time. You can always put on a set of chains if the conditions turn to shit.

@@trickster8635 have to agree. Having run AT's on the Paj for 4yrs I was intrigued to see how far the highway terrains would go.
The fact they went as far as they did, convinced me (especially for my use case as it's my daily) that AT's were going to be fine.

@@trickster8635I have a set of chains, brought them more for wet clay over snow, but then felt how heavy they are🤦🏽. Doubt the parabolic’s would carry them. 🤣
