@@patsywilliams5570 Also from a family of nine, and Mom also made this about every other week or so. We canned a lot and it was not unusual to add a pint of this or a quart of that to stretch the recipe and just change it up a bit. My favorite addition was wren's eggs.
Didn't know until I was away from home that wren's eggs had a real name, which was horticultural beans. Might have been a cross between pintos and kidneys for all I know. When cooked they looked like a pinto, but with kidney colored 'freckles' that probably led to the description of 'wrens eggs'. Mild of flavor, but a bit more firm than pintos...probably couldn't 'refry' them. Love 'em. Grow some when I can. Store 'em dry and just soak up what I need. Don't need much as there is just me at home nowadays.

I would have boiled it first but it makes sense to skip it if there's liquid available already to cook pasta in. I have just never done it this way. Can't wait to try it.

I usually keep several Zip lock bags of browned meat cooked with the onions and garlic so it can be defrosted and the remaining ingredients added to it, We enjoyed this a couple nights ago, serving it up with some cheddar cheese & jalapeño cornbread. Every now and then we change things up a bit by substituting a small can of Spicey V8 juice or Snap-E Tom tomato beverage when I can find it! Goulash is comfort food at it's best! It calmed down the acidity to the sauce. He really liked it that way. Especially since he wasn’t so fond of spaghetti sauce due to its high acidity content. They served this dish at Fort Dix New Jersey to the US Army basic training recruits in the early 90's. I have always wanted to know the name of the dish because it was so good. I will make cook this weekend for my kids. Thank you so very much for sharing. God bless!

I have never called it goulash. But I have used leftover spaghetti sauce all my life with macaroni. Your ingredients sound just like mine and sometimes I cover it with cheddar and bake it in the oven.

I have made this many times. Love it! I don't use that much tomato sauce. I do ad the canned tomatoes though, and lots of salt (I know!) and garlic! Like you said it can be made many ways. Thanks.
