You do not know how helpful it is to have the recipe in the description box it’s is a wonderful tool to have to get the items you need so thanks for this you all are great
It would also be wonderful to have the recipe and so you could just copy/paste it so you can print it out. I usually just find the recipe/copy paste it and them print it off. I have almost a cookbook of your recipes. I love to watch you, and you are an amazing cook.
My little German grandma made it with ground beef, onion, green pepper, a small jar of Raghu spaghetti sauce & chili powder. After everything was mixed and simmering she's chop up a head of cabbage and put that on top & cover. It's done when the cabbage is cooked down. Stir it all up and serve. I think the cabbage stretched the meal so you had a lot of servings.
We’ve been married for 54 years. My husband keeps talking about goulash but I couldn’t figure out what he wanted. I would look a recipe up but he would say no that’s not it. But I made this. It was perfect. He loved it.
Momma’s was delicious. Hamburger fried and drained, onion chopped, elbow macaroni and tomato sauce. That’s it… simple and so good. Yours looks like a delicious recipe too. Have a blessed evening.
Very good that you put the receipe in the description box. I like it because it makes it east to follow the receipe. I watch your video as I make one of your dishes.
My mom made Goulash from whatever was in the kitchen so it was always different and delicious! She was a creative and wonderful cook who grew up in the Depression. She made magic...😍
@comesitatmytable9044 meet expectations??? Hahaha I'm not a demanding person lol. I'm going to try this recipe tho (minus the beans) not this weekend, but next
When I was a kid my mama would make it with hamburger, onion, whole canned tomatoes, Italian seasoning, and elbow macaroni. If she happened to have a green pepper she would add it. But that was a special treat (LOL). Having breakfast for supper is another great memory.
The way I make mine along with cheese of I have it. Simple hamburger, macaroni, onion, couple cans of totatoes and any bell pepper if I have any to use up. Never green though.
Love all the ideas I’ve just read! This is such a nice meal because it’s very versatile and will adapt to our taste preferences or whatever we have in the kitchen or fridge we want to use.
I love goulash ! Simple, easy, quick, filling, etc. In Missouri it's literally, some sort of pasta, hamburger, canned tomatoes & or tomato soup, green pepper is optional. Salt, black pepper, garlic powder & onion powder or real onion , optional. That's it. Usually a drier dish made fresh or left overs. Add a little water if to dry. Easy & filling. We grew up in this crap cause we were so flipping poor & our parents weren't around to feed us. We were so lucky to make this dish.
Tom and Melissa I made your goulash. It was wonderful. My 15yr. Old grandson can't stand the name so I made up a name and he ate two plates. He said to me grandmother that was the best dish ever. Thank you for sharing Kris and Ron
A tip for adding tomato paste, whether from a tube or can, make a well a little clean spot at the bottom of your pan and give your paste two or three minutes of you smashing it against the heated bottom, stir it around so you kind of “wake” up the flavor and it takes away any “can” taste, it’s kind of a way you can also wake up those dry spices you are using. The hot bottom of your pan or skillet helps wake up your dry spices, just a minute or less on them accents their flavor immensely. It’s a wonderful technique and habit to get into. ❤ this recipe sounds wonderful. I always thought of goulash as an inexpensive dish by throwing together some things you already had on hand but with this list of ingredients I think this could be as expensive as lasagna to make. Do you agree? Sure sounds wonderful! Thanks Tom and Melissa another meal I wish I WERE at your table! 😊
@comesitatmytable9044 I do a vegetable soup with V8 as a base, and that's how I cook the noodles in the dish. Occasionally, they will pick up too much of the juice and get huge if you use egg noodles.
My mama made "Hungarian goulash". Browned ground beef, stewed tomatoes with their juice, garlic, lots of paprika, onions, and peas and, macaroni! Salt and pepper, of course. So good!
In the recipe for the cornbread, you have an 8 inch skillet but Tom poured the cornbread mix into a 10-inch skillet. I cook cornbread a lot and I have my mother's cast iron skillets. 8 inch and 10 inch.
I made this with Impossible burger in place of the meat. I had never had goulash and it was delicious. Love the variety of recipes. So many can become Vegan. 😊
This takes me back to my childhood! My stepfather was a true master chef. He could cook anything and make it taste great. My favorite dish was his Hungarian Goulash. I would devour every bowl that was placed before me. Thank You for the recipe and for bringing back a delightful memory!👨🍳 Bon Appetit!🥂 Wishing You and your wife all the best.🤵👰
My Nana, from Arkansas, always made me goulash & Southern Cornbread when I visited her - without fail. I loved it and ALWAYS think of her when I make Goulash
I use the same cornmeal mix as Tom, I put a heaping cup of cornmeal mix an egg a cup of buttermilk and 1/2 cup of mayo. Put that in a bacon greased 8 inch iron skillet and bake according to directions.....So good and moist.
My Mom never made goulash. Was introduced to it by my Dad's sister, Thelma when we went to visit one summer. To me, I guess it just isn't goulash unless it is how she made it. Agree there are probably as many different recipes as there are families who make it. (Kind of like Colcannon.) 1 lb ground beef 1 bell pepper, lg chop 1 sweet onion, lg chop 2-3 ribs celery, sliced thick 3-4 cloves garlic, minced 2 tbsp olive oil 29 oz (or thereabout) stewed whole tomatoes, with juice Lg can tomato sauce - to taste 6 oz can tomato paste 1 tbsp Italian seasoning 1 tsp basil 16 oz box lg shell macaroni, cooked according to directions. Saute onion, bell pepper, celery, spices and garlic in oil until crisp tender, set aside. Brown and drain meat. Add everything to pan but sauce, incl pasta. I break up the tomatoes by crushing in my hand, cut off stem end if still there. Stir well. Add as much sauce as you like, thin with water if needed. Taste for seasoning, add salt and pepper if needed. If tomato flavor bitter, add up to 1 tsp sugar. Heat through. Serve with garlic toast. My cornbread is half cornmeal, half corn flour, egg, cream corn, sugar, melted butter, baking pd. Love your channel.

Looks delicious. No boos, please. I would add sugar to the goulash and corn bread! Grew up in Illinois. I now live in Indiana. I never heard of pasta in chili until I married a Hoosier man. ❤
No boos. 😊. We do put a little sugar in our chili, but not pasta. Chili was our first video on our channel. We’d love for you to check out that video, too. Thanks so much for watching our channel!
Never added sugar mom used carrots as the sweetener . Grated up they disappear into the gravy and added the sweetness needed. Also cooked the pasta in the sauce that was thinner to begin with.
May I suggest that you put a container of spatulas on each side of the kitchen. They can be put into a tall container with handles down, almost like a bouquet of flowers. You can get different colors. I have a container at my prep station and one at the cooking area. We just made your Soft Ginger Cookies and they are terrific! Thanks
Oh my! I just finished eating dinner and you are making me hungry again! I could not help but crack up when Tom bit into the cornbread. 🤣 My goodness! That's the sound my brother and I make when we really enjoy a bite of food! I will be making goulash and cornbread real soon! Love watching you and Melissa so much!
My family's Goulash recipe is quite similar. Stewed/diced tomatoes aren't popular with several members of the family so we use Tomato Puree, Tomato Paste, and for a slight flavor kick, V8 Vegetable Juice rather than tomato juice. Sometimes, we add Hot Italian Bulk Sausage in addition to the Ground Beef.
When I think about Goulash, I think of Hungarian Goulash with the chunks of beef, paprika, carrots, potatoes or egg noodles, and, of course, the sour cream. I make something similar to this dish that I made up one night when I was 15 when my mom had to work late. My mom was so surprised to see that I created this masterpiece. She loved it & requested I make it on a regular basis. She would ask me all the time how to make it, but she really just wanted me to make it. My ingredients were a little different as I didn't put peppers, beans, or all the tomato stuff. Just a jar of tomato sauce. The pasta was egg noodles & there was shredded cheddar in it and sliced American cheese on the top. I worked with what ingredients we had in the house. Baked in the oven just to get everything melted together. I've changed the ingredients around over the years just to make a different flavor. One version was with ground turkey breast instead of chopped meat, cream of celery soup instead of tomato sauce, whatever pasta i felt like, mixed veggies or small pieces of broccoli & cheddaar & or velvetta cheese melted in the casserole. I haven't met a casserole or a Goulash that i didn't like.
I was going to send you my mom's goulash recipe for consideration for your subscriber Sunday's, but since you asked. This also my go to comfort food. This is the only Goulash recipe that I have seen that doesn't include tomato, it is what I grew eating once a week. This was published in one of Southern Recipe's cook books back in the 70's and mom received a free set of their cook books for her contribution (she loved to tell people that her recipe was published.) Try it, it's different and I think you'll love it like I do. Nellie's Goulash.. 1 lb ground beef 1 lb breakfast sausage 1 lb pasta (cooked and drained, my mom always used either macaroni or shells, I like it with bow tie pasta} 1 bell pepper (chopped) 1 med onion (chopped) 2 cans cream of mushroom soup salt and pepper to taste 1.) Brown ground beef and sausage together, crumbled so that you can't tell one from the other, drain. 2.) Add soup and pasta and mix all together, add salt and pepper, cover and simmer 5 or 10 minutes till everything is heated through. 3.) Eat and Enjoy.
My mother made goulash and I love it. She didn't put beans in it though. She put a lot more meat in it. She'd use ground chuck and ground round, I'd say 2 lbs a piece, chopped onions and green peppers and instead of using a chopped tomato, she'd use a can of chopped tomato's in their juice plus a big can of whole tomato's that she'd smoosh up with her hands which made a bunch of tomato juice. no oregano, just lots of garlic, salt and pepper and some paprika. The meat gave it a great flavor and I love the large macaroni's. My family is from the deep South (Alabama) and yes, it is great Southern comfort food.
My mom made goulash all the time but she called Cowboy Grub so we would eat it and boy we gobbled it down lol. This looks very similar thank you for sharing. Hey Tom you didn't even ask if Melissa wanted the first bite or even just a bite. What the heck 😢 that's not like you.
Your is close to mine, made it yesterday and had it again today. I make mine with noodles and tomato juice, garlic seasoning, Rotel, peppers and onions, red kidney beans and serve with Jiffy cornbread mix. It is a family favorite and I probably will not make it again until next winter.
Looks delicious. I saute my onions and peppers a little, then add tomato paste and cook it a little bit before adding the tomatoes. I have never had goulash with beans so that was interesting. I love how you scrape every bit of ingredients out of the bowls and cans. I do the same.
Everyone does make Goulash different, like you say even next door neighbors do it differently. Momma always made it when she made chili because I didn't care for kidney beans. That's the only time she made anything different because either of us girls did or didn't like anything. I remember many times hearing Daddy say your Mother is not a restaurant you eat what is made or don't eat! Now that I'm getting old I like almost any beans (still don't care for kidney beans) but I can't eat many tomato products. Thankfully I'm creative because there are tomato products in a lot of recipes! I never had cornbread growing up (I live in Michigan) but have tried making it a few times as an adult. I've never liked it but after my daughter lived in Texas for a few years she informed me it's because I don't have the Southern know how! 😊
My Grandmother made the Hungarian Goulash, the must have ingredient was paprika. She also used the wagon wheel pasta, which we loved. The tomato base you are using of course is what she did and she added beef broth, and also beans.
I have never had goulash like this before. It's always been ground beef, onions, and tomato juice. With macaroni. I am 70 years old, and I will be trying this recipe soon. It looks fantastic and sounds delicious. Thank you 😊
I made your goulash last night for my daughter, son-in-law and grandkids. We all absolutely love it! It’s delicious! It makes a lot for leftovers, which I always appreciate. I have never commented on your channel before today. Thank you for doing all of these videos! I love to watch them! You both do a great job! Thanks again!
My Daddy always made great goulash. His was very similar to yours. Only Rotel and the chili beans weren't available then. So he added canned green chiles and regular red beans. Sometimes we only had stewed tomatoes; so that's what we used after chopping up the tomatoes a bit. I'm going to try your recipe this Mother's day! Thank you both for all the work y'all do it !❤
Tastes great with ground turkey too.A little healthier. Low salt Italian stewed tomatoes.Green peppers, onion and garlic. Mix it together and put it on your elbow macaroni and...🤤
Big 👍🏻 looks delicious. But we call that chili mac in our house. That's almost exactly how we make our chili mac. Our goulash uses kidney beans no green peppers or rotel. 👍🏻💛🙏🏻
I love goulash and cornbread and I love the shirt Tom is wearing, it's close to Tennessee orange, go Vols. Yes I know this is sacrilege calling out Go Vols on a Kentucky Wildcats channel. But hey we are still neighbors♥
Your recipie sounds and looks so delicious! I use hamburger, fried and drained with chopped onion, and garlic, Italian seasoning, tomato sauce and paste, elbow macaroni, and mix in grated cheddar cheese...I also sprinkle grated cheddar on the top and put in the oven to melt and brown a tiny bit. My momma's recipie....sooo good! I think I'm going to add some rotel like you do, original though, the next time I make it...we do like a bit of spice/heat. I always enjoy y'all's videos. Melissa is truely blessed to have such a capable man in the kitchen.....I know you are greatly blessed to have your lovely Melissa by your side too! Thank y'all so much!😊❤
Looks delicious as always ! I make goulash using small pasta shells. We just like those better than the elbows. And when it is finished cooking, I stir in about a cup of medium seasoned queso ! I also add the queso at the end of cooking my chili ! It adds a smooth texture and is very good .
My goulash is usually a whatever-is-in-the-pantry dish. I've never used beans before but might give it a try. I also just add a little more liquid and cook the macaroni right in the dish and not cook it separately. I cook mine in my pressure cooker. Its all good... yours,...mine...granny's...the neighbor's. And you can never go wrong with cornbread!
I had to laugh at myself...when you talked about the green bell pepper being a larger dice so you could see it, I thought to myself, that's so you can pick it out! 😅 (I feel that bell peppers ruin everything they touch! So there's more for you that way!) Oh my does that cornbread look good! And such an easy recipe too - I'm licking my chops here! Thanks for sharing with us. You two are a great team!
My mother made a very simple pot of goulash, which she also called slumgullion. She used diced potatoes and a can of corned beef and boiled it in water. I still love that to this day.
My mom made goulash and cornbread also and I just loved it . Your recipe is just about the same , but my mom didn't put chili beans in it. And your cornbread is made the same. Thank you for sharing SINCERELY, KAREN JETTERS
Love how many of your delicious recipes that include meat can be adapted for using plant based ingredients. My family really enjoyed this goulash made with meatless “sausage” instead of ground beef, although I’m sure the original recipe is yummy as well!
We are so glad you've adapted it to meat your family's needs. We love reading these kind of comments. We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel.
WOW now you have outdone yourselves! I just cannot wait to try this! I love any kind of pasta dish but my husband prefers spaghetti. That just gets boring after awhile to me and I get to craving goulash! This is so similar that I am hoping he enjoys the change. You know the chefs always teach to save a cup or so of your pasta water to add afterwards in case you need more liquid. I tried that and my water was quite salty like the “sea” so they say, and good grief it made my dish so salty I couldn’t eat it, and it was great before that addition. So keep in mind if any of you are used to adding some pasta water you want to keep in mind to balance the salt that you add to your pasta water. While I have heard the salt as sea water, I have heard many others just throw in a couple of tablespoons and if that is kosher salt it is half as salty as table salt. It’s the starchy water that helps your dish with the liquid and taste and the salt in it adds flavor. Cooking is so fun and there’s extra teaching that helps with the outcome of our dishes. Your videos and reading lots of the comments are so fun! Thanks for all your hard work and caring enough to share your knowledge. Guess that’s the “teacher” coming out. We love you both so much and appreciate everything! God Bless! ❤
Sometimes mama made her goulash similar to yours but instead of green pepper she added cut okra. If you like okra and tomato together you will love it in an okra and tomato goulash.
I moved from southern Illinois to northern 7 years ago and met the sweetest little old lady, shes 82 and is basically my adopted grandma. She puts Heinz ketchup in her goulash and ive never had a better one. Maybe because it reminds me of that family feeling i had in the south and maybe because its amazing. Just a reminder of home for sure......also going with one of my grandmother's tricks, try cooking cornbread in a waffle iron. Its amazing for dipping 😊
I love good cornbread. I buy the envelope of Betty Crocker Cornbread/Muffin Mix, add a tiny bit of sugar, not as sweet as the box kind, buttermilk, egg and some of the melted grease and cook it in a cast iron skillet. It is so good. I usually eat a very small piece with a little butter, and then a piece with my meal. This sounds so good, and you have to have good old cornbread with it.
You do not know how helpful it is to have the recipe in the description box it’s is a wonderful tool to have to get the items you need so thanks for this you all are great
Oh gosh yes!!

I agree you don't put pasta in chili.....
We agree. We don’t put pasta in chili. In fact, chili was our very first video ever for our channel. We hope you’ll try it out, too!
Chili is totally different.
That looks amazing!!!! DEFINATLEY going to make is on a cool night or any night...lol😊
This would also be wonderful with a cup of grated cheddar cheese which I add to mine.
Momma’s was delicious. Hamburger fried and drained, onion chopped, elbow macaroni and tomato sauce. That’s it… simple and so good. Yours looks like a delicious recipe too. Have a blessed evening.

I would imagine the mayo adds a lot of moisture to the bread. And some flavor as well.

Sometimes, we add Hot Italian Bulk Sausage in addition to the Ground Beef.
Thanks for the tasty recipe. I have used Kefir in place of buttermilk.
Looks yummy! Don't some people call this Chili Mac? Good no matter what you call it! Thanks
Never used it with beans before. This would be interesting to try for something different .😊
YUM!!!! I love goulash!!!
1 lb ground beef
1 lb breakfast sausage
1 lb pasta (cooked and drained, my mom always used either macaroni or shells, I like it with bow tie pasta}
1 bell pepper (chopped)
1 med onion (chopped)
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
salt and pepper to taste
1.) Brown ground beef and sausage together, crumbled so that you can't tell one from the other, drain.
2.) Add soup and pasta and mix all together, add salt and pepper, cover and simmer 5 or 10 minutes till everything is heated through.
3.) Eat and Enjoy.
Thank you for sharing it with us. It does sound really good!
Very interesting recipe...thanks for sharing. Sounds good and different!
Hello from KY love you and your channel ❤️ Looks great, smells great too.😊
Thanks so much for watching our Kentucky friend! You are right - it looks and smells wonderful!
My wife and I love your channel, but she wants to see more of Melissa! God bless you both, you are in my prayers.
We make this pretty much like you do. I add black olives and a can of corn instead of beans. My kids love it.
Melissa I'm eating the core of the cabbage right now! Haha making meatloaf and fried cabbage tonight! 😋
Awesome!
Thank you for watching. It’s great having you both on our channel.
Your is close to mine, made it yesterday and had it again today. I make mine with noodles and tomato juice, garlic seasoning, Rotel, peppers and onions, red kidney beans and serve with Jiffy cornbread mix. It is a family favorite and I probably will not make it again until next winter.
Sounds really good! Thank you so much for watching our channel.
It's usually a winter dish for me too. Mom would always make Jiffy corn muffins to go with it. Ahhhh the memories!
I'm from the Upper Midwest and grew up eating cornbread on occasion.
@@katie7748 Even though some recipes have strong ties to one area it depends more on your particular family than just the area.
Our dad said the same and that's just how it was. Mom wasn't a short order cook lol.
I made this recipe but i added a small can of sweet corn drained and one half cup of water, very good meal..
My mother-in-law made a delicious dish I call goulash. Sadly I never wrote it down and she is no longer here to share it. Yours looks so good!
I like cornbread with black raspberry jam on it for desert. Yummy.
Oh my that does sound delicious!
That's what I would call an Italian chili mac. Looks good.
I'm the youngest of 12 kids...we had it once a week...one of my faves
What a wonderful family! Such a blessing to have so many siblings!
Quick, easy, & delicious. My kind of meal.
My Grandmother made the Hungarian Goulash, the must have ingredient was paprika. She also used the wagon wheel pasta, which we loved. The tomato base you are using of course is what she did and she added beef broth, and also beans.
I wish I had some for tonight. Yummy. Thank you, as always, for the inspiration.😋
You’re so welcome. We love having you at the table with us.
Yum Yummmmm!
Yumm ❣️
Subscribed ❤
I have never had goulash like this before. It's always been ground beef, onions, and tomato juice. With macaroni. I am 70 years old, and I will be trying this recipe soon. It looks fantastic and sounds delicious. Thank you 😊
That is how I make mine except no onions. Not everyone likes them.
Thank you both for all the work y'all do it !❤
Thank you for the kind words! We hope it makes a great Mother’s Day meal.
Looks like an amazing lunch!! I love that y’all share the recipes for everything you cook, rather than being gatekeepers:)
Good food and recipes are meant to be shared we believe. Thank you for joining us at the table!
Thank y'all so much!😊❤
We appreciate you watching our channel! And we do indeed feel blessed in our marriage.
I would love to have a bowl especially with some cornbread. You 2 make me hungry. Sounds so good and I'm trying this. Thanks for recipe.
You’re welcome. We are glad you’re at the table with us.
I had to laugh at myself...when you talked about the green bell pepper being a larger dice so you could see it, I thought to myself, that's so you can pick it out! 😅 (I feel that bell peppers ruin everything they touch! So there's more for you that way!)
Oh my does that cornbread look good! And such an easy recipe too - I'm licking my chops here!
Thanks for sharing with us. You two are a great team!
YUMMY!!!
I love it I'm glad you didn't put sugar in your cornbread. If I want cake I will have cake but I want cornbread there's a difference 😋
I enjoy “sitting at your table”. I cook 2-3 of your recipes every week. It has helped me answer the question what’s for dinner?!
I like everything about this meal.
Thank you! We do, too.
Oh man!!!! I’m making this tomorrow!!!! Oh it sounds SO GOOD!!!! Thanks!!!❤❤❤❤
My mother made a very simple pot of goulash, which she also called slumgullion. She used diced potatoes and a can of corned beef and boiled it in water. I still love that to this day.
Oh gosh! Gotta make some!!
We hope you do. Thank you so much for watching.
I learned to cut both ends on the can of tomato 🍅 paste and leaving one push the paste through
Great tip!
My mom made goulash and cornbread also and I just loved it . Your recipe is just about the same , but my mom didn't put chili beans in it. And your cornbread is made the same. Thank you for sharing SINCERELY, KAREN JETTERS
My mommas goulash was the bomb
Love how many of your delicious recipes that include meat can be adapted for using plant based ingredients. My family really enjoyed this goulash made with meatless “sausage” instead of
ground beef, although I’m sure the original recipe is yummy as well!
We are so glad you've adapted it to meat your family's needs. We love reading these kind of comments. We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel.
My client and I watch you 2, and we love your channel, wish there was more men like you!
Wow, thank you! What a nice compliment. I’ll be sure to pass along your kind words to Tom.
Oh gosh !! I’ve seen so many takes on this but this looks delicious !! It’s a definite must try !!! Thank u guts so much ❤
WOW now you have outdone yourselves! God Bless! ❤
I would leave seasoning in the chili beans extra flavor plus I let elbow noodles soften in chili, Yours looks good! Love saving steps!!
Sometimes mama made her goulash similar to yours but instead of green pepper she added cut okra. If you like okra and tomato together you will love it in an okra and tomato goulash.
That looks amazing
We really do enjoy it! Thank you so much for watching our channel.
Your goulash looks delicious Tom and interesting putting the beans ,never done that. But I would try it ,thanks for sharing. Hi Melissa
Thanks for watching! We really do appreciate you are at the table with us.
I agree pasta does not go in chili.....If you do than it's goulash!!!!! Looks yummy!!!!!
