When I was growing up we had goulash a lot. It was always a little bit different. We were pretty poor and lived off of stuff like rice, beans, and goulash. I haaated goulash as a kid. But as I got older, and my mother got older - the recipes changed, for the better too. And I learned to love it. Love watching your content, man. You seem like one heck of a guy. Thank you for making this content for us.
I have an aunt who went on her local PBS station during a fundraiser to promote a book of her hot dish recipes. One of her granddaughters had a husband that worked there and he asked her to put it together. We were kind of laughing about it because we knew how poor the family had been and that this had been a necessity for them. You put together whatever you had and hoped for the best. If it turned out good, you wrote it down for future reference. When she went on that show she had a whole 3 ring binder full of hot dish recipes. People were buying the books like crazy. If they only knew how they had really come about.
My parents made chilli and goulash with kiddney beans. I hated kiddy beans!!! I like kiddney beans now!!! But when I hated them, the dog hated them too. 50 kiddney beans on the floor lol

BUT AS THE YEARS PAST I FOUND MY SELF IN A LITTLE HUNGARIAN city of Pecs! There i met & fell in love with my wife of 22yrs and let me tell you that is not authentic Hungarian Goulosh! This is always my first fall dish. I grew up with 4 siblings and a tight budget. This was a staple in our house. My mom made it with bell peppers and chili powder, otherwise the same.
Slumgolian - I haven't heard that word used in 55 years. It was, just like Kent said, a meal they served in grade school to use up all the leftovers in the cafeteria. It was usually served the last three school days of the month along with peanut butter soup.
Thank you so much MR Kent and MS Shannon my grandmother used to make a similar goulash brought back some great memories, tastes and smells in the kitchen that is for sure! My family loves everything spicy so I added a couple Jalapenos and an 8oz can of El Pato spicy tomato sauce yummy we loved it they couldn't shovel it in fast enough the sparks were flying off the plate :-) My wife makes a similar soup she calls Italian soup with fideo noodles in it and more chicken broth to keep it soupy It is all good I will be buying one of your cowboy cookbooks for sure probably start with the last one! Sir, I am a 67 yo 1/2 Hungarian woman in Ohio. When you said "Slumgallian" my ❤ sang happily! Grandpa and Daddy made the best. Thank you for the happy memories!
In New England they called it "American Chop Suey".
My mom and grandmother called it slumgullian(sp).
As a kid every Thursday night at our table during the cold months - made with bottled tomatoes mom did from the garden dad and I tended, soy beans to make the ground ground beef go further - Blessed then blessed now. This looked awesome and I'm making some Thursday. Thanks and God Bless!!
Hope you enjoy and God bless you
Kent, this Goulash is food for the palate, eyes and the soul. We've been having the perfect weather for this type of dish and, we're going to have to fix us up a pot.
My mother used to make this ,especially during the Fall and Winter months. Many were the times I could smell that aroma before I ever set foot in the house. Yes Sir, it made doing my homework not really a pleasure but, it caused me to get a move on to get it finished.
Thanks for sharing another wonderful recipe with us.
May the good Lord richly Bless you, Shannon and, all of your household.

Thanks for watching Stan and we had it many times on our table, it was always a keeper, God bless you and yours
@@CowboyKentRollins Hey there Kent, top of the morning (afternoon) to you.
Just a quick note to say, I fixed up a pot of your Goulash this morning. Wow, is it ever good. I added an extra ingredient to the mix though. After I put some of it in a bowl and tasted it, I put a good dollop of sour cream on top.
Thanks again for sharing another of your great recipes.
You and your family be Blessed.

Shannon- you've got to edit together a compilation of all of Kent's dance moves! It just makes me so darn happy!
I remember my mother's "goulasch" and she was born and raised in eastern Tennessee. Good eatin', with some frozen veggies thrown in at the end. But the tomato stuff is spot on and it tasted great. RIP, Mom. Your cookin' lives on!
Goulash and a white bread roll, there's nothing better. Even bland school lunch goulash was awesome
I agree,i used to work on my uncles farm as a teen and he was Hungarian and that was out dinner,Goulash and a nice fresh white roll

I have never been much of a cooker but ever since watching your videos I have started cooking. The family is not complaining with your recipes. Thank you and god bless sir!
Made this last night, the family loved it! Followed it to the "T" except I used 1lb ground venison and 1lb ground meat. I did not have the Red River Ranch Original Seasoning so I used salt and pepper as he suggested, the family LOVED it. I did buy a Kent Rollins wooden spatula and cast iron handle cover as well. I need to buy some Red River Ranch Original Seasoning and support Kent and his wife, we love what they do!
WOW, sir, you just bought back memories. This was the VERY FIRST recipe I taught myself using no recipe at the age of 13-14(I'm 45 now), except I added mushrooms. And fresh crumbled bacon as a garnish.
Oooh I dont eat meat, so adding some mushrooms and green peppers would be good
Hell yeah. Cheddar cheese on top is good too.
I have been describing your recipes to my teenage son. (we often cook together) His appetite goes crazy with every new ingredient that we have never tried. Thanks Kent! :-)
Glad yall are enjoying and Thanks for watching

Everything but the kitchen sink! Momma did the same thing.

Thanks for watching Jeff and so sorry for your loss
I love this guy so much. He is so American and down to earth
@@patrickhall7636 I like it with white beans!

When i was a kid growing up in an Irish catholic family my mom made what she thought was “HUNGARIAN GOULOSH” & I HATED IT BECAUSE I HATED PEPPERS! BUT AS THE YEARS PAST I FOUND MY SELF IN A LITTLE HUNGARIAN city of Pecs! There i met & fell in love with my wife of 22yrs and let me tell you that is not authentic Hungarian Goulosh! (As he said in the beginning) I cant believe that now as an adult I’m loving Hungarian Goulosh!
By hungarian standards Pécs is not a village but a city.
Thank you , for loving our country.
You made me fall in love with America
I love this type of goulash. I add green pepper (sometimes red too) instead of the Rotel, but yes. So good.
Good idea 👍
As a hungarian this is notbauthentic but sure as hell tastes good!
I love that you called it Slumgullion because that what our family has always called it. My son was calling me crazy because it was Goulash. I had to show him this video so he would know that his Mama is not crazy. Lol. Love the recipe!

This is always my first fall dish. I grew up with 4 siblings and a tight budget. This was a staple in our house. My mom made it with bell peppers and chili powder, otherwise the same.
My son and I have made this together multiple times. Making it again right now and always love watching Kent as we go!
Slumgolian - I haven't heard that word used in 55 years. It was, just like Kent said, a meal they served in grade school to use up all the leftovers in the cafeteria. It was usually served the last three school days of the month along with peanut butter soup.
My grandmother said it all the time to us.
I love Goulash of any sort, will give this a try soon!
