  • The Sony A80J is meant to be the second best Sony OLED behind the Sony A90J but still having the great Bravia XR processor and HDMI 2.1. But could it be the second best TV, period? I'll compare the A80J to the LG G1 Gallery Evo panel and give buying advice for all of the 2021 OLEDs.

    The matte/semi-gloss finish is just different, not definitely worse. But matte doesn't mean better. X90j has semi-gloss and is poor with reflections 7.3/10 while a90j has 9.3/10 with glossy look.

      You are going to be so happy! That A80J is a STUD bro. The new Google TV design is better than LGs. Sony also comes with 4K google Chromecast included and a ATCS 3.0 next gen TV tuner. Sony also finally adopted TV led Dolby Vision which is huge as Dolby Vision is hitting its prime and dominating everything we watch. So that will assure that you will love your purchase for years. Bravia Core is also a MAJOR sleeper. No other manufacturer has its own MOVIE MAKING DIVISION and gives us free 4k IMAX ENHANCED movies!

I have a 65A8G as a bedroom tv... and not wanting a sound bar in there, I hooked up a small subwoofer via the headphone out jack on the TV (this is an option supported in the settings menu). Just bought the A80J and this tv is seriously impressive. I have read and seen all the reviews saying the A90J is better but honestly i can't believe how bright this A80J is, at times its almost too bright and hurts our eyes.
    To me this picture is as close to perfection as you could get.
    Its easily the best tv i have ever bought and strongly recommend anyone who is on the fence over the A80J and A90J to save a small fortune and go for the A80J!

    • @MrRealtalk84
      @MrRealtalk84 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I agree I just bought my A80J last week and got it yesterday, the picture is amazing and the brightness is PLENTY bright for me and my kids eyes lol. The brightness on the A90J makes the darker colors pop just a tad harder, but l love my Tv and for the price I passed on the A90J, now if you prefer the best tv and have to have the best that is, then go with A90J, but best bang for buck in my opinion is the A80J. I wish I could get one of them Sony master class calibration done lol. Geek squad told me to at least wait 100hrs before even thinking about calibration, I thought that was interesting but anyway here is my two cents go A80J. I even wonder if an calibration would make it look even better? As of now I can’t imagine it getting even better.

    Couple of points great review as usual. I have the 55 A90J and after leaving it on almost the entire day it does not get hot, I don’t know how they did it, maybe a hair warm in one or two spots but certainly not what I would call hot. You mentioned some thing about skin tones on an OLED as opposed to a QLED, on this I have to say that I disagree I returned a Samsung Q80 because I could not get the facial tones to look natural so after one week of trying back it went never had that issue with any of the OLEDS that I’ve owned since the beginning. The Sony Gods were with you when the TV fell over. 🤓

    First, I like your recommendation to test the Sony A90J as the center speaker versus a sound bar or separate center channel. I’d like your opinion.

    Just hooked up my A80J 65" and I am blown away. The sound without my sound bar hooked up is equal, maybe even better, than the old sound bar. Hard to believe an in set speaker can sound so good. The best part was I grabbed it in Amazon Prime Day as my old TCL crashed the day before. It was $1,399 (lightening deal) and using some points, Got it for $1150 including taxes and Deluxe Delivery and unpack (awesome too). The4 year extended warranty was $151 more, so I scored, big time, on the whole deal. Got a Polk Audio bar and sub woofer ( $150 lightening deal too ;-) arriving today to make it complete.

      18 months on with my a80j and the sound still impresses me, we like it so much, we rarely turn on the soundbar now, how weird is that! It is not that the soundbar is terrible, but it just isn’t that much better than the TV to bother with turning it on for 90% of normal viewing.

      @@chriskaye1997 I upgraded my cheaper sound bar and it is remarkably stronger, especially the sub woofer. Great for movies or Spotify listening as well. I do have one issue that occasionally I'll get a split screen or no screen at all on streaming with a small color bar on the left side. I was never able to get an explanation why, but a quick off and on with the remotes power button and I'm back in business. Overall, still a great purchase.

Overall the sound on the Sony and Google OS are the game-changers for me, even in this one day I’ve been impressed. One thing that really bothers me though is that the screen doesn’t have a matte finish like my LGs. It’s in my living room which has matte black walls and finishes and it doesn’t look that great…. Brandon, All the review videos out on youtube seem to be focused on comparing current TVs or TVs from last year vs. the latest models. Have you considered doing a video for those of us that have older TVs so as to show how much things have changed compared to today's TVs. I suspect there are far more people looking to replace a 5-10 year old TV vs. a 1-2 year old TV.
    In my own case I haven't upgraded TVs since 2013 and I am looking to replace my old school Samsung UN65ES8000 LED TV that will be installed in my new home. The new location has 20' ceilings and floor to ceiling windows that face West. I keep reading about OLED being so much less bright than LED TVs, but given I'm coming from such an old LED is there really a difference? Size wise the new space is quite large overall so I am considering going with the Sony A80J 77" OLED, oh and I'm not a gamer.
    I'm really curious to hear your thoughts.

The Sony is great on movies in a home theater application whereas the C1 would be a all around TV that does a great job on TV shows, movies, and gaming.
