    A80J vid. Also, we have a LG C1 coming back for a vs! What do you want to know???!!!

      Can you test a few sequences from the Spears and Munsil benchmark disc and verify the near black problem on the Sony TVs? There are some areas that are brightened far too much and are also clearly visible in real content.
      It cannot be corrected by auto cal or manual calibration, as Sony does not support 22Point calibration.
      This was also documented on HDTVtest channel.

      What's your opinion about the semi gloss screen on 55 and 65 inch compared to the glossy one on the 77"? Does it affect the picture quality on bright Room?

    • @Caleb_Denison
      @Caleb_Denison 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Datenschutz_Datenschutz Which sequences? I haven’t seen Vincent’s reporting yet. Also, do you know what the numbers for the brightened blacks were? AFAIK all OLED TVs will either crush or over brighten near-black with no in-between.

    I have an A8H and Comcast, picked up their 4k ready cable box and the difference is night and day with the standard boxes! More networks are starting to also process in 4k. I can definitely see the difference when a show is being upscale or if it is playing true 4k. Great review!

    I bought the 65” A80j to replace my 55” VT60. Its a really nice TV. Great motion, deep blacks and plenty bright in SDR to the point where I run mine in the medium panel luminance setting. HDR brightness can vary depending in your settings for both Dolby vision and HDR 10. Google TV is a huge upgrade from the very limited smart TV features on the old VT60. I have no use for my Apple TV 4k now

    Saw this at Best Buy last week, oh my goodness!!! Looks so nice!! I was a big fan of the first Sony Oled A1? With the speakers on the side, super clear. This model is every better, very smooth towards a natural look. This is what I want to see exactly what So y did. Then checked out the LG C1 and CG scenes looked so unnatural, could tell it was unrealistic and had a judder on quick scenes, colors were nice but not like Sony! That Bravia chip is a whole different level!! When Sony does the VRR update and 4ports I’ll be getting this in 77”!

    I purchased the A80J (your reviews helped a lot in my decision) and am very happy with it. I set it up as a 'normal' TV connected to a 4K Apple TV and I have to say the result is pretty superb. The only thing that's really throwing me is how far off the audio sync is with my Denon AVR despite auto lip sync being active. The same set up with my previous Samsung LED was perfect for all HDMI inputs. Weird.

    Got mine two days ago. Fantastic. Was worried it would be too dim as this is my first OLED. Nothing to worry about, I guess OLED is dim only when you compare them with today's INSANELY bright LCD screens. But actually my QLED is TOO bright whereas this is just right.
    Is this $1,000 better than the x90j I was thinking about? Probably not but if I didn't get this the OLED FOMO would have overwhelming. This thing better last. Most I've ever spent on a TV.

      @Manuel C2345 Well some people aren't lucky enough to be able to do those two things e.g. I myself am disabled/medically unique, meaning I am unable to work, and as a result I'm on a very low 'income'.

    • @jaysmith2858
      @jaysmith2858 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Manuel C2345 Not when you are medically unique. Stephen Hawking had money, family and assistants. Would he have been able to do what he did without all of those things PLUS having another twenty or so conditions on top of the one he had, covering every aspect of his health/body including debilitating psychological issues? I think not. One of my conditions on its own makes me at least one in fifty million people.
      Some people have genuine reasons for their inability to be able to do certain things. If you were in my shoes you'd soon change your tune.

    Spot on Caleb, upscaling is one of the first thing that i'm interesting since i use cable box with 161 mainly HD channels and i don't have no interest to pay extra for any streaming services. Huge respect and looking forward for next video.

    • @pwd1134
      @pwd1134 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you're still using a cable box, you are honestly better off finding a 1080p TV. There is no display, monitor, TV what-have-you that will display lower resolution content as good or better than it being displayed on matched resolution display. Basically, 1080p will always look best on a 1080p monitor. Same with 720p on a native 720p monitor. No 4K TV will make an upscaled 1080p or 720p signal look better than a native display. Also, if you really aren't interested in any streaming service (which DO offer less compressed and some true 4k content) then why would you want a newer TV? I mainly asking because the only thing TVs have started to offer in the last 10 years are streaming service apps built into them. There really isn't anything else new they are bringing to the table. So if you don't want streaming or 4k content provided services and you're only using cable (1080p signal at best) then a 4k tv will have diminishing returns as soon as you turn it on.

    Thank you so much for all your expert views and advice. I purchased a Sony A80J tv and have been amazed by the picture quality over the Christmas period. My final decision was based on what I experienced at a local showroom. The signal they were streaming to all tvs was quite poor and the Sony dealt with it the best in terms of very little banding and reduced artifacting. The only disappointment is the remote which I find quite fiddly due to the size of the buttons - otherwise fantastic! May I wish you and your team a healthy and happy New Year. And my son would like to know if you are the younger brother of Hawkeye?!

    I just wall mounted the Costco model XR65A80CJ last night and all I can say is WOW 🤩 what a great tv!
    Their offering gives you a 3 year manufacturer warranty versus a 1 year at Best Buy, plus a 2 year Allstate warranty for a 5 year total.
    After setup I immediately turned the setting to cinema (I hadn’t watched this review yet lol) and turned brightness down to 20 as it was way too bright. We then watched an episode of Virgin River on Netflix which was really nice versus our old 43” Samsung plasma. My wife has macular degeneration and she was thrilled while viewing this tv, says it’s like she got a 50% boost in her eyesight!
    I will follow up watching more of your information on this set and get more detailed in the settings adjustments but it is very good out of the box except for being overly bright.
    Thanks for your valuable input on all the tv technologies currently available today as I haven’t shopped TVs since 2012 and am way behind in my knowledge of wahats out there today.

    Got it and I absolutely love it. My first OLED was leaning toward the LG G1 but decided to get the A80J because I heard how great XR processor is. Although not as bright as it’s sibling A90J (not to mention way cheaper) it gets plenty bright enough for me and it’s amazing at producing those specular highlights in SDR and HDR. I’m not a gamer so picture quality and color accuracy was what I was most interested in and having a next gen tuner was a plus at that price point. I have had my 77" Sony OLED for about 4 weeks. Upscaling was my biggest worry when I decided to replace my 10 year old 82 inch DLP and buy this TV. I can testify that this TV does an excellent job of upscaling 1080i. There is something that nobody talks about though, and that is that faces mostly in SDR MODE are purposely over brightened for some stupid reason. So when setting up the SDR mode, choose the Custom Picture Mode setting, and the algorithm that that does that is switched off.

I can tell you that watching sports, movies or anything else coming from my 1080i cable DVR box are absolutely beautiful. The sound coming from the screen of the 77" that has more powerful amplifiers than the 65" model, is so good that I see no need for a sound bar. @@attilamorvai I was considering the exact same models you listed! I spend more time watching movies, sports and some cable tv so the reviews on Sonys upscaling and motion processing, Dolby Vision compatibility, etc weighed into my decision. My gaming days are behind me but my 18 year old son played Xbox S series on the A80J and he enjoyed it. No complaints. Needed to be in gaming mode to eliminate lag/fix motion apparently but he enjoys it.
      Besides Sonys natural colors, panel acoustics sound system and motion processing strengths, another factor that played into my decision is how it works with the new Sony HT-A9 Dolby atmos surround system which I’m saving up for to complete my home theatre.

    The answer is Yes! Could well be the TV of the year. Like in the US Panasonic also pulled out down here last year so can't consider them(Panny Plasma my fav tv so far). The A90J is the best tv release so far. When considering the little differences between it and the A80J and the higher cost the 80 could well be the sweet spot and best tv this year. I'll be grabbing the 77" later in the year if price goes down. Originally was 10k here now down to under 8 so hoping for a bit more off otherwise the 65" it is. Excellent review Caleb as always. The ethernet speed (not the wi-fi speed) that these TVs support, is limited to 100Mbps only. Since the ethernet connection is more reliable and stable than the wi-fi connection, it is always preferable to stream 4k and above content through the ethernet connection.
