Thanks Caleb! Awesome videos as always. Do you think it's a good point for me to hold off on puttig the trigger on A95L and get the Bravia 9? Would Bravia 9 push the black level close to A95L? Thanks!
Thinking about getting new TV this year.. trying to decide between LG G4, or hoping a new/updated version of last year flagship A95L (QD-OLED) but this flagship (Bravia 9) is mini LED and I’m wanting premium OLED and the 8 seems like it’s more mid grade.
IMO, any OLED you pick these days is plenty bright enough and has an advanced picture quality that far surpasses what anyone could have expected in recent past years. I think the higher end OLED TVs are spoiling the TV buying market with ultra-high quality. I own last year's LG C3 and it's spectacular. Everything I wanted and more. I can't even believe there can be anything 'better' and if there is I bet it's splitting very fine hairs of quality. I almost got the Samsung S90C and was even considering the Sony A80L model. I ultimately got the C3 from LG because each TV looked practically identical to me and the LG sported better burn-in protection measures and functionally accurate Dolby Vision implementation. However, any of those OLEDs would have worked out as they all have gorgeous picture quality..
Had Sony TVs for 30 years. Just got a Philips Ambilight and it blows all my old TVs away. Not bothered about a slightly better screen without Ambilight. Going to be an interesting video to watch…
Well yeah, theres been a major lack of flagship TV shows nowadays. The good thing is the processing is in the TV so even if you watch youtube or tiktok on your tv it won't look bad
It will not be insanely good in 5 years no I have a 2 3 year old Sony X950H 49 inch and 65 inch don't get me wrong it's still a very good especially the 49-inch version probably not a better 49-inch TV ever made but no TV will still be considered amazing in 5 years in this market where we're headed 🤷
@@paskelrey I would know. I've been using the 42" A90K since it launched. The A90K is the reason I haven't updated to one of those new 32" OLED monitors from Asus, MSI and others. I also own the 48" model, purchased after my 900E bite the dust. I like the brightness of mini-led. The A90K gets sufficiently bright. But there is room for improvement.
Prices got inflated too high this year. If the Bravia 7 is the equivalent of the X90 then the price of the 75 inch went up 1200 bucks. Based on the specs, it certainly is most in line with the X90. The X90 replacement was what I was looking for but not at their insane suggested retail price. TCL or Hisense will likely have a very good TV at a much more reasonable price.
First I hope you're not comparing X90L current prices vs new launch prices. The X90L has dropped likely 20-25% in price since launch. Also, the Bravia 7 is a substantial upgrade over X90L. It's more or less an X95L so the pricing is really good. The prices of a Bravia 7 vs TCL and Hisense isn't going to be far off. But the processing of the Bravia 7 will be far better, just like the X90L was far better BUT it lacked in blooming. Now they fixed that . Besides the X90L will continue to be sold. As for Bravia 9 prices, they are basically in line with X95L prices.
I agree. I have a Sony x80k 85 inch that has 120hz (Yes 120). Which is $1399 new $869 open box at Best buy currently As of now the Bravia 3 is only 60hz so I would have to get the Bravia 7 which will cost me $3199 as of now.
I actually would like to see your review of the bravia 3. I got an x85k and i like it and curious to compare. Also curious if 120 hz makes a difference to 60 hz in terms of movie watching.
A95L owner here. Am I the only person that doesn’t care for brighter panels? I rarely have this tv at peak brightness. After once purchasing an LED TV and regretting it for its entire lifecycle, I’ve bought OLED ever since - as I prioritise the ability to deliver accurate blacks as far more important.
A lot of people have bright rooms so the brightness helps. I live on top of a hill with west facing windows. I don’t get much direct sunlight except maybe at sunset, and since I’m up on a hill and nobody can see in I don’t have any shades or curtains. I wouldn’t call me room bright, it’s never dark unless it’s night time. So I generally prefer a brighter screen, not blindingly bright though. That said a bright TV can always be turned down, but a dim TV can’t be turned up. I’m still trying to figure out how the people with OLEDs (which I do have), keep their TVs at like 60-70% brightness. On my LG C8 that is very dark.
Absolutely. You don't want that much brightness. It makes the non-bright areas look to dark and ruins the picture. This is especially true with new movies. This makes either mini-led or OLED necessary.
Everything sounds great but what about the HDMI ports? Are we finally getting 4 Full Bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports with all the bells and whistles instead of 2?

Well, guess there will be some deals on the X95L, but as it stands, and correct me if I'm wrong, the Bravia 9 85" is about $1K more than the X95L is now? The other question would then be, are we approaching diminishing returns on the Bravia 9 compared to the X95L, or is the new flagship price worth it regardless?

same here bro....MY c1 has zero burn in even after 6000+ hour and the picture still looks like I got it when it was new... I am also going for oled on my next buy but that might be another 2-3 years. The burn in has to be so bad I have to notice it constantly in every color than I might upgrade the TV.
I also have a C1 and it is running strong. I am really curious about the G4 models this year. Curious to know how good the new processors are in real world application.
With the A95L being a carryover and still a bit pricey…are A95ks even open box in good condition or from private sellers worth it? I have seen some for decent prices
The Bravia 9 mini LED will cost over $3k for the 65 inch. So the question is, does it make sense to buy the Sony Bravia 9 over the Samsung S95C/S95D which can probably be had for $1k less?
Love the simplicity of the model names and more narrowed focus on good, better, best without a whole bunch of minor variations in between. Will make it much easier for me to find the right TV for a customer. Wish more companies would adopt this strategy as well.

How does the new BRAVIA 9 compare to the BRAVIA A95L you were so high on?
I think while the new model identification is simple it does not tell us consumers what type of screen or how new the model is. I rather the original alphabetical /numerical identification
The new naming scheme is fine. What I care about is price and availability. I was trying to buy a 77" A95L and it just wasn't available. Maybe a 85" BRAVIA 9??
The naming scheme is great until you ask, "What will next year's models be called?" Bravia 9a? They should have gone with something like 13, 17, 18, and 19. That way next year you'd do 23, 27, 28, and 29, and people will easily be able to tell which one's the newer model.
Bought my Sony A95K 1 year ago. Reflection handling is excellent. I can have a light switched on next to me and still watch without being distracted by it. It was pretty expensive but worth it.
So, I know you're suggesting that FALD/Mini-LED prior to this was an all on or off affair, but that's not really the case, is it? I've seen similar examples of FALD without the LCD layer and the various zones absolutely can be of varying brightness. Are we sure the difference here isn't just in the quantity of zones (mini-LED) allowing for more of a defined picture with just the backlight? Or is this just Sony catching up to other FALD implementations? Are their distributed chips to handle the calculations just able to do more refined dimming than competitors? I want to believe this is somehow better, but I'm not seeing anything new other than it being Sony doing it. I'm personally waiting to see how the TCL qm851g stacks up.
So here's the deal.. is this mini LED tech better than OLED tech? or have they just given up on OLED B/c of burn in issues? My samsung note 9, has an OLED HD screen & the resolution & crispness, is amazing... But notice I said "Note 9" its an old phone now... still rocking it. Have yet to put a new battery in it. Going strong. But mainly the screen is still doing alright. That's the big thing as well.
@@winwincsk I can't really think of a compelling reason to buy a Bravia 3 unless you want a 2024 Sony TV smaller than 55 inches. In fact, Sony isn't even going to offer the Bravia 3 in Europe.
So they're keeping the x90L this year to take over the x85k. So that will be the "new" entry level 120Hz model. Bravia 3 collapses x80k and the X77L if ur in NA into one by retains the price point of the x77L. Probably to continue to take sales from Samsung CU7000/8000 series and complete with the LG UQ series at that price point.
@@alexr958 Only problem is that the X90L doesn't come in 43 and 50 inch like the X85K does. At this point, I'm probably the most excited about the Bravia 7 strictly from a video gaming perspective. I can't wait to see it in person.
After buying and canceling an LG G4 and G3, I finally settled on a Bravia 9 75 inch. Keeping my fingers crossed that I made the right decision. Believe it or not the fact that this can be set on a TV stand as opposed to mounting is one of the major factors that helped make my decision, because I just bought a brand new magnificent 80 inch TV stand for over a grand. If I mount the TV on the wall it would be just an accessory below it, but putting the TV on top of it is much more attractive. There are not a lot of reviews out yet for the Bravia 9, but it looks to be a real game changer. Rolling the dice, but I think it’s going to be a big winner.
@@notliosandoval not really getting “carried over” so much as it will continue to sell until stock runs out. Sony didn’t indicate a carry over for that model as it did for the A95L
New Model names a great! Now I'm most interested in how much or little the 9 is worse than the A95L in Sci-Fi content at night!? Or another great "OLED scene" to test is from Frozen 2, where Elza sings against pitch black background and paints with sparkles in the dark.
Yeah I was saying this in another video's comments. While I'm sure the 9 will be probably the best looking mini LED we've seen to date, I don't suspect it'll overall "top" any of the QD-OLED models currently available or new ones coming in 2024.
Hi Caleb, thanks for the vids. Can you please enlighten me if you know the answer. I'm comparing the A95L with the S95D, you mentioned that Sony won't be replacing the 2023 model atleast for the time being. But will they use the new OLED panel (2024 model) for the same A95L? Or will they stick with the 2023 OLED panel?
Ok so from the little I know about TVs I have a question. I thought all QD OLEDS were the best and mini LED can’t even compare? Am I wrong to assume this because if so why bother with any of these TVs? Please if anyone can help me understand
Nope. They'll simply do another A90J move here (where the flagship stays for an additional year as top). I am comfortable with that.. simply because I wouldn't be able to afford a new flagship if there would be one!
I want to be optimistic because QD-OLED seemed like the TV technology end game I’ve been hoping for since flat screens first popped in the seen in the late 90s. But if the cost to performance ratio isn’t there, and nearly all of the market is buying LG’s WOLEDs instead of Samsung’s QD-OLEDs then it doesn’t bode well for its future.
@@crelliseng1. No such thing as end game when it comes to TV technology. Not even Micro LED will become that. There's always something better around the corner. 2. You get what you pay for. You're delusional if you're expecting price to performance competition from Sony. They're not trying to be like Hisense or TCL. 🤣🤣🤣
@@PSYCHOV3N0M not Sony, QD-OLED in general. Sony uses Samsung panels as Samsung is the only manufacturer of QD-OLED panels. LG is the only manufacturer of WOLED panels. Sony’s lower end OLEDs that use WOLED panels are supplied by LG. The only two companies that sell QD-OLED TVs are Samsung and Sony. Nearly all other brands use LG’s panels. LG display is continuing to invest in WOLED innovation. Samsung is seemingly focusing on mini LEDs. Unless Samsung can make the cost of the QDOLED panels cheap enough to keep using them in their cheaper TVs… that technology likely won’t last very long since everyone else is choosing to buy their oled panels from LG instead. Including Sony.
So for the average folk they have to choose between the bottom two tiers for which there is a more than double price difference for the same size tv. That is a HUGE gap! People will be better off buying a previous years lg Oled or a QM8. Love the Sony reliability and processing but their pricing structure is mind boggling
So it sounds like the A95L is going to remain the best 55" in Sony's lineup. Although the Bravia 8 is considerably thinner than the A80L and might be a better price/performance choice. Even if I had space for a 65", I don't think I'm ready for a $3000+ Bravia 9. Having owned a Bravia 25" Trinitron in the '80s and a Bravia SXRD projection TV in the 2010s I think it's interesting to bring back that name, but maybe they should have resurrected WEGA branding also to differentiate LCD and OLED models.
Additional, or even considerably more, brightness. No burn-in. Also supports larger size TVs. >75" OLED prices get pretty crazy pretty fast, and good luck going above 85".
Yeah, that’s something important to think. I purchased an LG C3 77 and I’m pretty happy with the overall quality on image and construction… I really don’t think I need more brightness on the TV. For daily usage, I don’t even leave the TV on maximum bright, because it’s not necessary on SDR. When I’m going to watch a Movie, with curtains closed and in HDR, I turn off the economy mode and the TV really shines itself. The black levels are PRETTY awesome, you cannot understand where the barrier between tv and the wall - it’s really all black. 800 nits are more than enough ton peak brightness to have a fantastic image on that. Brightness it’s part of image quality, it’s like sound - volume it’s only one variable, more volume doesn’t mean better quality - There’s A LOT MORE that goes inside this to evaluate “OVERALL QUALITY” and C3 from LG is pretty decent to me - I don’t think I would like to improve that, is really more than enough for me. The same thing happened with my home theater - now I have a 5.1 floor standing 100W speakers from JAMO and a 300W sub and a Denon from 10 years ago that sounds way better than 90% of Atmos availables in market - why should I do an upgrade?
@@marcfavellLocal dimming was developed more than 20 years ago. I don't remember exactly when it was brought to market, but in a very quick search my oldest result was a Samsung from the 2007 model year.

TCL provides the mini-led panels for Sony (through their CSOT branch). In 2024, Sony only gets Gen5 panels, whereas TCL TVs get the newest Gen6 panels. Gen6 is a HUGE improvement (more leds, much faster and finer controls, and per-led control whereas leds are grouped by 2 in Gen5). So the part where "Sony Bravia 9 allows finer control compared to the competition" is BS: other brands such as Samsung also get Gen5 this year, and TCL is way ahead. The only way Sony can make a difference is through their image processing, compatibility and ecosystem. But competition will be tough, and we should not declare a winner before testing all alternatives.

Replaced it with a Samsung QN90A when we moved to a bigger place and have since replaced that QN90A with a S90C QD-OLED. And, I gotta say, I don't think I could ever go back to LCD. No matter how much Sony claims to be improving their LD algorithm and implementation, at the end of the day, it's basically impossible to beat individual pixel control.
@stephenpatterson8056 yeah, maybe. I don't mind the cost. It just comes down to the idea that 1 wrong move and I could get burn in. This tv is now 7 years old. It still works pretty well, without showing much age. I want something brighter and a bit quicker on the menus. I would also be going from 65 to 75. If oled didn't come with the ticking time bomb of burn in, I would have probably gotten an lg g3/g4 or a sony 95l. I refuse to spend that kind of money and then have to baby it. If microled was ready in the next year or two, I would probably hold out for one of those.
@sashag1547 QD-OLEDs, particularly the panels used in the Samsung and Sony 2023 models (A95L, S89C, S90C, S95C) don't seem to be very susceptible to burn in. And there's actual evidence to back that up. Rtings has been trying to burn in an S95C for the last year and it has experienced zero burn in. Can't say the same for the WOLEDs though. The LG models seem to get it much more easily. But even with that being said, the testing that Rtings is doing is EXTREME. Way more intense than anything any home user would do to their TV. But the fact that QD-OLED is surviving that crazy testing says a whole lot about how reliable the technology is
@stephenpatterson8056 yeah, I've been keeping an eye on that. They seem better, but still prone to some issues. With sony taking the year? Off, I'll just stick to mini leds. By the time I'm ready for an upgrade, microled should be here.

LOL ITS NOT STUPID SHIT
I can already tell everyone (including myself) is going to want a Bravia 9 vs Bravia 7 video, to see just how much better (or not) the new backlight system works.
Spoilers. The bravia 9 will be somewhat better, but not for the price
The Bravia 7 is pretty good with the backlight I’d guess the 9 will just be slightly better.
What is known about the pricing for carry-over models? e.g. A95L?
The new naming will be easier for me to explain to customers. Odd numbers are LED. The only even number is OLED, and of course the left over model from last year A95L.
Do OLED panels still show burnin?

The Problem is...even the best TV can't fix the lack of watchable movies or series 😂

Almost every show and movie made since COVID is shot in 4K Dolby Vision or HDR10+… what are you talking about?
Well yeah, theres been a major lack of flagship TV shows nowadays. The good thing is the processing is in the TV so even if you watch youtube or tiktok on your tv it won't look bad
super exciting stuff! I'll probably still pick up the Sony A95L once it goes on sale, because it'll still be an insanely good TV 5 years from now.

In 42" I'd just go with the LG C4 at this point.

You cant get A95L anymore?
Probably when the A95L successor comes up in 2025, it will be called Bravia 10. A 10/10.

How will the Bravia 7 compare to the X95L? is it a repackaged version of that?

Bravia 3 collapses x80k and the X77L if ur in NA into one by retains the price point of the x77L.

Having owned a Bravia 25" Trinitron in the '80s and a Bravia SXRD projection TV in the 2010s I think it's interesting to bring back that name, but maybe they should have resurrected WEGA branding also to differentiate LCD and OLED models.
Not going to replace my A95K any time soon.
Looking forward to an in depth comparison between the A95L and the Bravia 9
Since mini LED can never reach the contrast levels of an OLED, what is the main advantage? The additional brightness?

Succesor to A95L coming in 2025, we're halfway through 2024 anyways

I'm more interested in the HT-A9 mark 2 shown throughout this video!
$1500
More on that coming soon
Same here kinda wish they made a new sub tho with more impact and maybe go the sonos route we're you can either add a sub or keep adding to the set up as time goes only reason still didnt purchase hta9
$2400 is a lot for it if it doesn't even include a sub. And still only 1 HDMI port. Kind of seems like a swing and a miss in those areas. Yeah a new sub would have been nice!
And still no dedicated center channel
will the bravia 8 tv speakers work with sonos or only with sony home theatre speakers?
"The picture looks awesome on thes tvs!" I think to myself before I remember I'm watchkng them on my Sony 1080p led on a youtube video. 👀
As someone with a six-year-old 55" Sony with 48 dimming zones, that Bravia 7 65" is looking preeeetty good for a Black Friday splurge later this year.
They’re just skipping a flagship OLED this year bc the A95L is a beast and only came out a few months ago
I do like the new Bravia designation though and had to edit this when he dropped price info, doesn’t cost as much as I thought!
They are cancelling OLED production. Confirmed by Sony
@@Charleywex How are they canceling OLED production and yet release a new OLED TV? The Bravia 8 is OLED as he said.
And the fact that they don't make their own panels for OLED and Sony long-term road map does not include OLED tv at all
O
@@SIPEROTH not this year obviously, but future plans don't include OLED
Can’t wait to see Bravia 9 vs Bravia 8 video from you.
Not sure which one to go with yet.
Yes. I like the Simplicity.
I am skeptical about bravia 9. Will need to see reviews after it comes out.
Any idea on I/o and refresh rates of the panel on the Bravia 9?
2 HDMI 2.1 ports, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports. 120Hz
Dam they didn’t learn from the A95L
This is unacceptable, there should be 4 HDMI 2.1 it can’t cost this much to have them their !
@@MrFaleh1129 Blame MediaTek
@@MrFaleh1129 Maybe their great processor can't handle 4 HDMI 2.1's.
@@BattalionAngel maybe , I think it’s the mediatek can’t handle it
Caleb, they say oled is the best in terms of picture quality as of now, but do you think the bravia 9 mini-led will look even better than the bravia 8 or any oled?
Embargo, has definitely been lifted...can't imagine how hard it was to keep these secrets, lol! So cool to see the new Sony TVs drop! Got my 85in x95l a month ago and it's been a fantastic upgrade over my LG CX!
Do you prefer it to your CX?
@@fab9223 YES..It’s an upgrade in every way…especially brightness. I noticed right away.
People to each his but in most people in the real world will disagree with over the top statement, lol.
@@peterjaimes8776 In my the real world…the CX I own developed burn in only after 3 years of use and LG was no where to be found. So for me it was an upgrade in more ways than one. Burn in is no longer an issue.
@@peterjaimes8776 In my real world the CX I own developed burn-in after only 3 years of use and LG was no where to be found. So, for me it was a huge upgrade. Burn in is no longer an issue for me now.
Why no 55 inch for Bravia 9?
Because they don't think that people should be able to afford the top end model
That sucks. I was looking forward to the Bravia 9, 55" is the max I can comfortably fit in my room and I need to replace my dying TCL. ( I'm not going back to OLED)
@@AntonioCunningham Bravia 7! That's what I'm getting. I also want a 55" and wished the X93L had a 55".. well here it is but even better. I'm moving from my old plasma to miniLED backlit LCD. LCD tech finally caught up and is surpassing OLED. Just in time for me. Why aren't you going back to OLED? Burn in? Bright room?
@@Ren32 What OLED are you using with 4000nit brightness? People will be doing that soon with the Bravia 9. If that's not surpassing, not sure what your definition would be.
@@DaddySizeIt Fear of burn in. After 8 months of Using my LG C1, I had image retention for 12 hours.
I know from a logical standpoint that Burn in isn't as much of an issue. I made sure my extended warranty covered burn in. However after experiencing that image retention, I find it stressful to use the C1 even though it looks superior to any TV in my house. I forgot that we humans are emotional creatures so logic alone isn't enough for me.
So for my peace of mind I'll be avoiding OLED from now on.
I have Sony XR-75X95J 75" and have eArc cracking noise issues and have tried everything but can't fix it. Do you think K65XR80P is a better TV than XR-75X95J in every way and has no eArc issues?
Sony processing is worlds better than other stuff. It looks just more natural.
Keep saying that to urself
Really need to see this Bravia 9 in person. Wondering if deals for their QD-OLEDS will get better or worse depending on sales of the new flagship
The 7 and 9 sound fantastic! But, that pricing is beyond ridiculous. Too many great options out there for SUBSTANTIALLY less money. I cant understand how Sony can justify these prices.
Honestly pricing doesn’t seem bad at all. What brand and model has similar quality and features for significantly less?
Great update! Would you say that the Bravia 7 is the same performance as the X95L or somewhere between the X93L and X95L? I was thinking/hoping the Bravia 7 is essentially an X95L with new Pentonic 1000 SOC. What do you think?
I was wondering the same thing too but I think he said in the video its comparable to the 90L which kinda bummed me out a bit.
Charging $600 for a 43” 4k TV with only 60hz and no local dimming is hilariously stupid
Without offering 120Hz the Bravia 3 is dead on arrival. It would make sense at 120Hz because budget minded gamers would consider it like they have the x85K.
Is there a special wall mount needed? I want an extending mount
Now we wait the A95L vs Bravia 8 review…. It will be my deciding factor
Not even a comparison. In the Sony Q&A they stated that the A95L is here to stay for 2024 and they also said and I quote “the A95L is way ahead of its time” 👑💎👑
I would like to see a video on the 79 compare to the L. G c four
Very exciting news! Thanks for another great video Caleb.
OK, I have the 42” Sony OLED. I can’t go much bigger due to space limitations, definitely not a 55 (but maybe 43). Seems like there is no upgrade for me.
Can't wait for a bravia 9 77". My 930e is ready for a replacement.
I used to have a 930E too! I feel like we're a rare breed. Next to nobody bought those lol.
By the time I'm ready for an upgrade, microled should be here.
i wish 50 inch tv size was offered for t.v. with xr procesor...
I think the new naming convention is a lot simpler than before. It's clean and it denotes the tiers more clearly.
I have a Sony Xperia phone. 1 is considered the flagship and 10 is the budget. In that context, the Bravia line going the other way around gives me a headache.
