When will we see a review of the LG QNED TVs? Will the 8k (99 Series) be necessary or will the 4K with older processor be good enough?
I have a plasma tv with burn-in, so I’m weary of OLED.
Or can I pull the trigger on the Sony A80J and not worry?

    • @kojak99100

@@kylemaroun6903 I was worried about burn in too… nevertheless I tried my first OLED about 2 years ago (65A8G). No burn in or image retention issues at all. (I don’t game on it). So that gave me the confidence to get the A90J. I think this generation of OLED’s is much less susceptible to burn in than the early generations were.

Totally agree about the OLED brightness complaints being overblown. My Sony is plenty bright and I found the deep blacks and better overall picture quality to be the deciding factor over an LED.

..for every other situation you need to "move" or extend that 203 margin further into higher luminance.. so that you still can perceive what is happening (just like when you are listening to music in the car in a noisy environment).. but..
What happens when you watch 980nit content with a 750nit panel?

    • @absolutium
      @absolutium ปีที่แล้ว

..well it gets worse the nit count which was already lacking in the begining is going to get worse due to degradation every single year we are using it.. at some point we are going to be watching a 450nit panel trying to show detail from 1000 or 4000 nit content.

I bought my A80J 65" a month ago and I'm in love with the picture quality and features of that TV. Paired with my Sony 7.2 a/v system is like having a movie theater at home. A90J might be "better" but its price is too much, at least for me. Once you have the A80J at home you will be amazed and will not miss the A90J at all. And let me tell you this, in real live A80J is so bright that sometimes it is hard to look at the screen when there is too much white on the scene. So I don't know why someone would want anything brighter than that, unless you're used to watch TV with sunglasses on. Also don't judge it by the quality of the image coming from your cable box or Internet tv provider. It will be 1080p at best but even with that it looks fantastic. Try watching 4k HDR or even 8K from TH-cam and other sources and that is where this TV really shines.

That's the shame of it - cable has terrible picture quality and it's where most of us still watch most of the content... It's 1080i at best but the bit rate makes it closer to 480p and 720p... Also set your cable box to 1080i, not 1080p. You don't want the cable box doing any upscaling - you want your TV to do ALL the upscaling.

I bought the 65A80J a few weeks ago and I love it. Upgraded from a 50 inch HD Vizio M-Series. Man I couldn’t be more pleased. Finally enjoying 4K and HDR. I’m binging old shows and dusting off old Blu-rays. And I’m with you Caleb couldn’t justify right now shelling out $4000+ to enjoy greater brightness. These TVs shine not only in contrast but those specular highlights even in SDR. That processor just makes shiny things pop along with doing a hell of a job handling low quality stuff. And though not an A90J the A80J is plenty bright. And as far as audio quality I use my home theater system anyways. I’m happy with my purchase. Thanks for the comparison and sensible analysis. Hope you hit those million subscribers.

  • @loki76

Saying an OLED doesn't need to get brighter is just wrong. It's not about it being just good enough to be enjoyed in a lit room. It's about HDR looks better if it has higher nits AND perfect black levels.
Why are people giving OLED a pass for all it's flaws. Stop with this cult. An OLED that can be as bright as a QN90A would simply be the best TV in ANY scenario. As it stands OLED are not.
That is like saying LCD TV doesn't have to get better black levels and less blooming. They are perfect just as they are. Which is obviously just as wrong.
Money wise I agree the A80J is better value. It's the one I would buy if I am getting one. But I am talking about the technology improving. And in that scenario, YES OLED should get brighter. Why not then it can be the best in all situations.

These days it is virtually impossible to buy a "bad" tv. However, I bought the 83 A90J anyway. I am not wealthy, however, I have a good job and I save money when I can. Home theater is a very important quality of life issue to me and I could not resist an OLED at this size and this price. Just a few years ago, a 77 inch OLED was over $25K. Also, my local brick and mortar A/V shop treats me very well and always gives me an extremely fair trade in value on the last TV I bought from them.

Awesome video! I’m still rocking my 60” plasma (2013 Panasonic TC-P60ST60.) The panel currently has 14,550 trouble free hours on it, and still looks stunning when viewing high-quality content. The only problem has been that the optical audio out port broke (literally crumbled) over a year ago so I can’t use the soundbar any longer. I am seriously considering upgrading this Fall to the Sony A80J 65” OLED. From all I’ve read, if you love the look of plasma then OLED is the only thing you’ll be happy with.

The whole "side-by-side comparisons aren't fair" point is straight BS. Yes, they are fair. Saying you won't really know if they're different because "it's not like your watching you tv and then going and watching your neighbors TV shortly thereafter" would trigger the question "then why but a $2000-$3000 TV in the first place and not a $600 TV?" I mean, it's not like you're going to be comparing your $500 TV to your neighbors $3000 TV anyways!!!
No, you do the side-by-side so that you can see which you like more. Sometimes you just don't know how much better one is over the other until you see them side-by-side.
Now, if you're saying "are side-by-side comparisons fair on TH-cam" then I'd agree with you that they are not, as TH-cam compresses the crap out of videos and, also, your viewing experience is going to be completely dependent on the screen you're watching on. So, the difference probably won't be as aparent as it is if you saw the TVs side-by-side in person.

While I am not "Mr. Deep Pockets," I am very much leaning towards getting the A90J. It's not because I just have that much money, but because I tend to buy the best and make it last. I'll be replacing a 55" Sony XBR-HX929 that I bought as soon as it released way back in 2011. I also plan to wait until November and watch prices like a hawk to get it cheaper, assuming past model year price drops around that time prove to be an example of what happens this year. I feel I can justify the extra (but sale priced) cost of the A90J if I'm going to get the next 10 years out of it. (Frankly, I still love my HX929, but I've been pining away for an OLED TV since 2001, literally.)
Also, I do love the idea of using the TV as my center speaker, especially with the positive things I've heard about how well it directs the audio from the appropriate place in the scene. I just need to figure out what to do with my current center channel speaker.

Bought the A80J 77" 8 weeks ago. LOVE IT. My only advice is to hardwired the internet instead of using wi-fi, why? Sony also includes Bravia subscription, which streams IMAX Ultra 4k Atmos between 50mbps-100mbps. HBOMAX and Netflix also offered 4k Ultra Dolby Atmos, but a bit compressed, still you want the fastest speed for the best Ultra 4k quality. I tried using the wifi feature and Netflix, HBOMAX, and BRAVIA TV suffered from buffering when streaming Ultra 4k and picture quality changes from 4k to 1080 depending how busy your wireless wifi is working.

Programmable Mute Button - Does any manufacturer offer a Mute Button on the remote that can be pre-set at a percentage of the last unmuted volume? Would be great for muting commercials, etc. You could hear the muted volume and listen for return to the program you were watching. Maybe one push on the button for your setting (20%), two pushes for sound off, and three pushes for return to normal volume (100%). An alternate idea would be to pre-set the mute button to a specific decibel level.

I mean all previous master series oled tvs offered nothing extra besides better color accuracy and a tiny bit of sound and was still the same price gap and cost more at release then even the a90j does the a90j is brighter has better accuracy out of the box better sound comes with a heatsink has 32gb of storage instead of 16gb like the a80j I mean imo all warrants the extra price people only look at what they want to all of these things cost money the heatsink alone is a chunk of change and it clearly works well as it dispurses short term inage retention faster then any oled out as of now

You don't have the coating ob the front of the screen. You also grt better calibrations from factory. And has 32gb instead of 16gb and comes with the new controller. Yes I know you can buy the controller if you want lol. Imo that's all worth it. It's alot better then it used to be between the lower model and there master series. No, I heard that the 80 was more reflective than the 90, i.e. the 80 is worse than the 90 in that respect…

Thanks for your video, very informative. I just bought this TV "listed as brand new" on the weekend here in Toronto Canada. But I would like to ask somethings that I am confused about.
First, after watching yours and other unboxing videos on You-tube I noticed that Sony TV boxes mostly had 2 nylon straps around the cardboard box that needed to be off. My TV box did not have these two nylon straps.
Second, in the unboxing videos I watched including yours I noticed 2 cardboard releases at the bottom of the box that are designed to allow you to pull the box straight up and off the TV. My A80J box did not have these releases at the bottom of the box. I had to cut away the box and lift the TV itself out of the bottom of the box.
Lastly, I noticed that in some videos there were two label stickers on the TV screen to peel off. My TV only had one sticker label, the yellow energy guide sticker.
As you have likely figured out now, I am concerned that I got tricked into buying a refurbished TV.
If this were true, it would be shocking as the retailer I bought this TV from has been in business for 65 years and has been an official certified Sony dealer for most of that time.
My question is, since these TV's are built in different regions is it possible that my issues are simply a variation in packaging standards.
The TV does look great and seems to work fine, but I would still feel cheated if I have been sold a refurbished TV rather than a new one.
If you can shine any light on my issue that would be great.
    Thanks..........

both x90j and x95j are huge downgrades from last year's x900h and x950h. so I suggest you buy x900h (if you're a gamer) or x950h (if you're a movie watcher).
